DS has one but has grown out of it...we don't really have the room for him to ride it but have a trail-a-bike on DH's bike so we can all go for a ride. I'll have to take DS down to the park and let him loose without training wheels on his peewee bike before we'll even contemplate getting him another.
The great thing about the trail-a-bike is that we don't have to wait for him to catch up and the fact that he talks non-stop means we don't have to use a bell on bike paths as people can hear us coming!

I always had a bike growing up and for my kids 3rd birthdays they get their first proper bike.. Before that they have trikes.. and then for their 5th or 6th they get the grown up looking bike
Bikes are a huge part of growing up IMO
