    Sorry.....quick Thrush question... (eewwww)

Ok, well thank you everyone for your suggestions the other day with my rash 'downstairs'. What started out as a rash thanks to all of the constant additional moisture down there seems to have now gotten worse and I think I have thrush to boot. Joy.

Does anyone know if you can get Difflucan (sp?) over the counter at the chemist and whether it is suitable for pg? I know it comes with a cream to soothe and pessaries.

I figure if nothing else, the cream can't hurt (god knows, Ive resorted to nappy rash cream to soothe it lately!) and I'm going to see my GP next Wednesday. I would prefer to have it cleared up by then, but I'm not sure what products are pregnancy/baby safe.

The thrush treatments I've used say to only use when PG under medical supervision. It may be worth a trip to the Dr to be on the safe side.

When you go to the chemists just explain to them what it feels like and how itchy it is 8-[ and let them know that you are PG and will it be safe to use. I don't think you would be able to use a pessery. I think I had thrush with my second and I just used one of the creams the chemist recommended.

I hope that helps a little.

Bec, when I was pg and had thrush I went to the Drs and she advised me to get Nilstat (I think?). I didnt need a script for it either...

But yeah, I would say its best to ask your pharmacist for some advice, I'm sure they would be able to recommend something...

Thanks for all of your wonderful advice ladies!

I found a VERY helpful Chemist at the Hyperdome. 4 of the staff spoke to me about thrush (god, just the word makes me cringe) treatment options. 2 were guys (yes, a little embarassing) but they were fully qualified pharmacy chemists and 2 female sales staff - one of which has had it numerous times before during her pregnancies.

I asked for Canasten (which is what someone on the pregnancy discussion thread suggestion) and they spoke to me about what I could use. Bought the 1 pessary & cream and oh my goodness...it's already calming down. Apparently the pessary is ok to use in later pregnancy, they just took out the applicator because it isn't recommended to be shoving anything up too high near your cervix. No problem with me....not quite ready to go into premature labour thanks.

Ambah - *L* It's amazing how I've managed to make it through all of these years post puberty and NEVER had it before. Typical I have to get it now when I'm so damn uncomfortable anyway. Also bought some breathable liners and natural yoghurt as well! *LOL*
