treating thrush towards the end of pregnancy

    hi all
    ( sorry if tmi )
Ive battled thrush ever since I got pregnant , i have tried absolutly EVERYTHING , and finally the midwife suggested that i use the Canestan 6 day Persarry ( sp? ) treatment as long as I dont insert the tablets too far - which ive been REALLY careful about.
Anyways , my question is , since im 37 weeks + what would happen if I was to go into labour before I finish the 6 day treatment? ( I know its highly unlikley but I have to ask ).. Since the baby would come into contact with the tablet on her " way out " would it be harmful to her ?? ( if she inhaled some or something ) ??
So far ive dont the treatment for 2 days... 4 more to go
Any advice would be MUCH appreciated

enigma - towards the end of my pregnancy I developed thrush for the first time in my life ever! My GP told me to get the pessaries and put one in the bath, let it dissolve and sit in the bath for awhile. Don't know if that will be helpful for you or not?

I feel for you! I got thrush towards the end of my pg and I tried vinegar (diluted) - just look on the net, that's what I did. It felt much better, but the vinegar smell was a bit much. As for the pessaries, just ring and ask your midwife, no point not doing it because of a groundless fear!

Sadly I got bad thrush right at the end of my pregnancy too....about three times from about 34wks pregnant onwards. The pessaries would clear it up for a few days and then it'd come back.

I had it terrible when I went into labour...I was SO embarassed about it (one of the midwives made a big deal out of it too...nasty woman!) but had plenty of other things to be focussing on.

Just for further advice, I asked my OB after giving birth whether there was something I could take to clear it up post-birth whilst breastfeeding. She told me that the natural bleeding after birth would actually clear it out!

the best thing is to have a bath in just a bit of water (enough to cover your legs and private parts)

warm water with HEAPS of salt in it! gush it around the parts and it should help IMMENSLEY.

i suffer from thrush for no reason...god help me when im finally pregnant

    good luck babe

It comletely cleared up, but then again, I didn't have it horribly bad.
Hope you can get some relief from it soon.

Natural yoghurt is really soothing and has the good bacteria in it as well. It is messy but its great straight from the fridge...just make sure it is plain - no bits of fruit! I wonder if taking acidopholus tablets is ok? They are really high in the bacteria and might give you some relief.

I've got it too so I can sympathise. Its horrible.
Beckibee, I cant believe that midwife spoke to you like that. As if you didnt have enough to deal with!!

Enigma, I am dealing with the same problem. Just a thought - when waters break, this would wash it out before bubs comes. I don't think there would be any problems with inhaling as bubs won't actually take breath until completely out.

I got thrush from the group B strep injection after my last birth and I used tea tree oil, ten drops in a cup of water as a wash (or very gentle douche) as I had stitches too and it seemed to work in conjunction with Inner Health Powder (orally!!) once a day in a glass of water. that way it is treated both locally and systemically. Good luck, thrush sucks!

looks like the persarry treatment helped. thrush gone! woohoo.. im taking the Inner Health tablets just to keep it away until baby comes.. after that hopefully thrush wont be much of a problem - never was before...
