We started weaning DS to a timetable of sorts at Christmas. He's now 15 months but he wasn't eating much solid food due to boob preference and the night feeds were killing me. Anyway, we're now down to 3-4 feeds in the day and 2 overnight. I'd like to eliminate the night feeds as he doesn't really need them and I really need more sleep. We're still not getting great sleep due to dietary issues and molars anyway.
i'm not sure, but I suspect my first PPAF is on it's way and I've noticed my hair is falling out again like after birth. Is this normal?
will menstruation affect milk supply or taste? I'm not looking forward to AF. I'm tired enough without the fatigue it brings and DS is being a limpet lately, so AF plus 12kg of sookiness all over me isn't going to be fun.
You have done a totally amazing job - breastfeeding til 15mnths - go you! You are well within your rights to wean. Just wondering what's the chicken and what's the egg, though. Hair loss is sending up a red flag - go and get your thyroid checked. Tiredness is normal for any mum - BF or not, combined with hairloss may point to a thyroid issue
Thanks Barb. I know I'm completely depleted. zinc is deficient. Magnesium deficient. Probably iodine deficient. Good idea to get some bloods done. We're also dairy, soy and gluten free, so we're supplementing with calcium too. There are other dietary issues too. Fructose and sorbitol malabsorption (me definitely, maybe him). There are likely issues with food chemicals too.
Hi, what a tough time of it you have been having. I wonder, if you are having so many dietary issues it could well be that your baby isn't eating well because of his allergies or sensitivities and therefore needs to have breastmilk (or a non allergenic substitute) Have you been working with any specialists for your allergies and his allergies?
We've consulted with a paediatric allergist and dietician. We delayed trying Failsafe until after Christmas but I'm going to put it off until we move house next month. Doing the FODMAPS testing diet was bad enough. Failsafe is likely to be horrible, as many of the "safe" foods are FODMAPS foods, which rules out fruit, for example.
i need more energy than I have to start that.
anyway, AF hasn't turned up so maybe it was just my imagination. Happily, the last couple of nights have been 1 feed only. Unhappily, with baby in screaming pain for hours from the early hours of the night due to diet stuff.
