    Default Weaning

My DS is 15.5 months and I'm not sure if he's trying to wean himself or if its just a stage. But he has already dropped to 3 feeds daily, and now he doesn't seem to want it except at waking in morning.

He won't sit still long enough for the letdown to occur. Just comes off screaming and pulling away. Them he chucks like a kind of tantrum, tensing up his body. He has been doing this the last few days, and the on and off thing us starting to make my nipples sore.

Is he trying to tell me he doesn't want to bf or is it just a stage? I really want to do extended feeding, but at this rate we won't be bf for much longer.

TMI alert, but I also haven't had af yet. So could the fact my cycle might be returning, turn him off for the moment?

cycles returning can change things - but if that is the case it should be back to normal in a few days.
He might also have an ear infection or throat infection which makes feeding hurt.

Thanks for your input kmn, no fever or anything but that doesn't mean he isn't having pain. Sometimes he is difficult to feed when teething.

I'm so afraid of him weaning coz I want to feed him until 2yo.

Impending AF can definitely change your breastmilk. My supply tends to drop a little just before and for the first few days of my AF. Thankfully it hasn't returned yet since having DD2 though.

My DD1 is 20 months and is getting frustrated when waiting for letdown at the moment. There's no fear that she wants to wean though because she's a little obsessed with her "mumma milk", but she starts a feed and within a minute she pulls off and whinges "coming? coming?" because she wants it to start coming. I keep telling her she needs to keep sucking to make it come. I often tend to get letdown just after she pulls off, so I wonder if she thinks that her asking me makes me make the milk come, lol.

I wonder if your son is just getting impatient when letdown doesn't happen fast enough for his liking. Perhaps just keep offering for now and hope that it's just a stage.

Yes he tends to cry at me as though that's what makes it come lol.

I rang the aba yesterday and got some great tips. To try bf after he wakes up while he's still drowsy, and to try and get the letdown going before the feed so he's not as impatient. Well I got him to have a bf last night before going to bed.

Does he like having baths with you? A nice warm bath, when bub is kinda getting tired is usually failsafe at getting bub to have a feed.

It could be your cycle returning too (or any chance you could be pregnant now?)

We have occasionally had baths/showers together, and I've fed him whilst there.

Not by the bfn I got yesterday.

Maybe what I was thinking is true. AF has just started her visit after 25 months.

Wow! 25 months!!! I hope mine stays away that long this time. After DS it took 9ish months to return. I haven't had one since I fell pregnant with DD1. Instead of getting AF back I had another baby instead, lol. Who would have thought that I would conceive with a 4-5 month old and a 2 year old tandem feeding 24/7? Hahahaha.

But now with three kids breastfeeding I should get YEARS before AF comes back yeah? Lol. It's only fair
