Ours cost $2500 or so from memory.
Our wedding was in a fairly out of the way location so he had travel time/expenses. He was with us from when I was getting ready until the start of the reception. We got a leather bound album with all the pictures we chose from the day. He also gave us our negatives as he was getting out of the photography game and we got along so well with him. They dont' usually let you have the negs apparently.
We love our photos, good photography is worth every cent I reckon.

Our Aust wedding cost us about $3k.
Like Abs ours was a surprise, a BBQ (we insinuated my Dad was retiring).
My friend owned a Florist at the time & brought a gorgeous tropical flower Bouquet over in the morning, I have 3 friends with good camera's & so just made sure they kept snapping all day & we have about 500 photo's black & white & colour!
DH & I made a whole heap of hot & cold finger foods, plus we had my BIl & close mates cooking a big BBQ...
It was one of the most relaxed best days of my life! I love my memories of that day...
Our Balinese wedding cost about $2k, my closest friend again used my camera & his & took a stack of photo's throughout the day, as well as my BIL from Bali whom does video graphic etc & he videoed the day etc!!!
Another one of my favouritest days ever!!!!

That sounds like a great price. We got married in March, in the Gold Coast Hinterland. Our total wedding price was under $5000 ! We had a family friend do our photography (the proverbial fan was hit 3 days before the wedding and the other family friend photographer pulled out and still ended up coming and taking photos). I'd never met the man before and told his passion is photography. Everytime I look at my sisters wedding photos, which were taken by my DH, I get upset coz mine are nowhere near as good as hers. Mine are blurry or "soft focus" or the ones that are in focus are not of my and my dh. :protest: (why is there no little crying face?) If I can tell you, and anyone else getting married, HAVE A GOOD PHOTOGRAPHER! You say you've seen his photos, and you think its a good price, go for it. I would have paid that, or even up to 2500 or 3000 to remember my perfect day.
Good luck with it! Congratulations for your wedding !

Thanks Ren, sorry you're photos turned out so badly... you poor thing!
Yes i agree, photos are what reminds you of the day the best and they are so important!!!! :) I trust he'll do a great job for us ... we are meeting up with him end of this month to discuss what we want and at the location of the ceremony so it will be good to talk to him then....

sounds like you are getting a really good deal...
Our photographer cost $1500 for the whole day, then we spent about another $2000 on the album & proof album. If we wanted negatives, DVD etc we had to pay more & I refused to pay a cent more as I wasn't 100% happy with what we got... they took quite a few photos of my family but not one of DH's parents together, sorry but that really annoyed me.
DH chose this photographer as he was an old mate & I didnt get a say in it, these days with everything we spend big dollars on I tell him I will be looking around at different prices etc & "WE" will choose together. Dont let anyone make the choice for you & DH, its your day... make sure its done YOUR way! (IMHO)
That was 6 years ago now, so I think with the way prices have gone up etc you're getting a fantastic deal... as long as your happy with his work (which you have said you are) All up we only spent about 10k on ours as I didnt want to spend too much on ONE day lol but it ended up being a good wedding, just remember... being the most expensive doesn't necessarily mean its going to be the best (photographer, cake, dress etc) SHOP AROUND :)
Good luck with the organising, I hope it's everything you've dreamed of

Thanks Danielle, yes we've done heaps of shopping around (well, i have! LOL) and i've gone to places like crazy clarkes, the warehouse etc for table decorations, my wedding dress is so beautiful but so affordable also, b/maids dresses were cheap but lovely still, yeah overall, i'm really proud of what i've done with organising our wedding... DF has left me in charge because he knows i like organising things and i do a good job... he's doing the invites (he's great at artwork and printing) and organising the music etc and doing labels for the wine bottles on the tables... ;) gonna be great.....
all up $10K is what we have spent but i think on the day it will look like we've spent more !!!;)

I went to a wedding over the June long weekend where they spent a good $5000 on photography. They have a 5 hour session this week with the photographer to pick the album and what goes in it. We thinks the wedding hit over the $30K mark and beyond. We have 2 more weddings to go to in the next year that are going to try and out do the one before it (very competitive friends and its soooooooooooooooo ridiculous). I cant wait to talk to them in a year or so time and they start ranting about how they spent too much on the wedding and they are paying it off for the next 5 years but these sort of people cant be told.
We spent about $10k on our wedding and that was about 4 years ago now so I thinks your doing great with your budget.

Thanks little sprocket ;)
Yes, i think some ppl go way overboard... we can't understand how they can spend so much money but hey, each to their own, i respect that like they should respect us for only spending $10K....
Our wedding is going to be sooo great and ppl will think we've spent more! hehehe whole idea isn't it??? hehe
ps i cant understand why ppl have to be so competitive ie your friends... that must make it hard....they will be whinging to you about paying it back etc and you will say "you chose to spend that $$!" LOL
