I just googled and Lola is short for Dolores. Also Lolita. Other forms: Dalores, Delora, Delores, Deloria, Deloris, Dolorcita, Dolorcitas, Dolorita, Doloritas, Lola and Lolita.
Perhaps her surname could be one of these names and her first name something entirely different (but longer)?
-
Otherwise, she's your character, there could be any reason in the world that she is called Lola - many ppl have nicknames that have nothing to do with their first names - it could be a song that her parents sang to her, a rhyme that her friends used to tease her with...
You're the author, You make up the reason she's called what she is!! It only needs to make sense within the framework of the reality that you set up for her, kwim?

Ok I have found the PERFECT name - I did a big search while BB was down ;)
Anoushka
I just want to make sure everyone reads it the way it's supposed to sound... Let me know!! The traditional spelling is Anouska but I don't think it reads correctly KWIM?
-
To me it looks like A-noosh-ka. Is that right?
Does that mean you've gone off the Lola idea?
BTW, you have me very curious as to who your brothers girlfriend is!!
-
Yep that's how it's pronounced... I still really want Lola though so I think I'll go with that. Probably Charlotte will Lola as a nn. I'll sleep on it!!
LOL - my brother's girlfriend isn't famous or anything - she just has a very well known family - mostly in the sports arena.
-
Ok going to take a different spin on this and make this particular character a minor. If I write solely about her it will be more lighthearted and "fluffy" - which is fine but not what I'm going for.
Writing to me is like therapy and I want something deeper.
So give me a name for Lola's (Charlotte) older sister!
-
What about Alexis or Penelope? Lexi and Lola... Penny and Lola...
I like Lola for a little sisters name..It fits!
-
I was all set on using Penelope for the main character but it just didn't feel right as I have a family member with the same name.
So I think I will go with Annabelle (nn Anna).
I've been researching surnames for a whole day and can't come up with anything!!!!!
I need something that is European sounding but would often hear in Australia - so it can't seem too out there - the family name needs to fit in Australia KWIM?
