How's it going ladies?
Very well :) So pleased, getting heaps done and it is feeling good!!
I downloaded scrivener and it is so good! I am loving the project statistics feature.
hit a brick wall at the moment, because I'm writing so much at work (average 5000 words a day) I get home and my brain just doesn't want to play the game. Will have to refocus this week I'm at just under 10k words.
I'm doing okay, I don't think I'm going to make the 50k by the end of November but it has motivated me to start so that is something, not giving up just yet... I haven't written for about 5 days as we went away for a wedding and were so busy then I was just exhausted. Starting to feel very, very pregnant and uncomfortable so just got a cheapie wireless keyboard so I can lay down and type on my laptop without having to have the whole thing on my lap so that will help a bit... maybe, hopefully haha.
I love Scrivener, will definitely be getting it at the end of the month after the trial finishes!
I've written about 7000 in total. Not going to make the 50K but that's okay. Like you, JF, it's gotten me motivated to keep going.
I'm finding writing hard ... difficult to explain.
It hasn't been the same since DS's birth. I thought this year would be different, and I would have healed enough but maybe not :(
 peanutter.
Just a little woohoo because I finally broke 10k words and am starting to get back on track. I actually feel like I could make it now and the words are spilling out. I need about 2600 words a day to make it... I think I can I think I can I think I can...
 peanutter
I'm inspired to get back into my writing, but I really want to scrap and re-start, I won't, but will probably add the new book idea onto the end of the current one and at the end of the month split the two and continue with them both since they're both valid stories.
I am so close to cracking the 10k mark! Feel like the story and the characters are actually coming together! Still no idea how to structure what i am writing so it works best, but will worry about that later i guess.
Yeah Jellyfish, that is awesome :)
I'm not giving up ...
My first Nano I wrote the last 17K+ words in the last 28 hours ...
Queensland with no wifi is calling ... it can be done :)
Peanutter, if you're finding the internet a distraction, there's some award-winning productivity software you can get. One of them blocks all your internet access for a set number of hours of work, the other (for those of us who use the internet for research, etc while we're working) blocks all the main social media websites plus any others you add to the list. The first one is called Freedom and the second one is Anti-Social. It's pretty inexpensive and available for both macs and pcs. I came across it mentioned on the website of a New York Times bestselling writer and took that for an endorsement. :D
ha - sadly, no.
I'm finding recurring thoughts about my birth injury and the subsequent crap and trauma distracting.
If there's an app I can download for that, please let me know ;)
Starting to claw my way back... over 16k words now! Hoping to reach close to 20k by the end of the day as DD is off with her Dad now for a few hours. Must. Stay. Motivated.
I think Sopdet's idea is pretty decent. It isn't the same but when I'm getting stuck I just start writing out my stream of conciousness about random topics and some of that stuff has been the best I have written. Every character needs little stories and opinions to help round them out, filler that helps develop who they are, making them relatable and giving them real thoughts type thing  good to see you aren't giving up!
Read this the other day which I quite like; "Whether you think you can or cannot, you are right".
it is a bit slow at work today, so after lunch I'm going to throw some words on a page :)
Hooray, I made it to 20000 :) starting to feel confident again!
argh why is it the minute I decide to do some at work we get busy!!!!!!!!!!!!! So none done today at all - will get stuck in over the weekend, right now I'm on my way out
well done, jelly!!! you're on your way :)
no good, sop ... but maybe tonight will give you some awesome inspiration, and you'll be up all night.
writing.
haha - I spent all afternoon writing letters about stupid occupy melbourne - I think I was up to 20 before I got roped into doing secret squirrel stuff for 2 hours
Nah no chance of that brain not working, but I know we'll be having really full-on in-depth conversations which may be used in the story later on.
 No app, but there's an excellent book called 'Writing through the Darkness' by EM Schaefer that you might find helpful in the place you're in. The book is about using various writing techniques in the context of depression but is also very useful re writing as a healing practice in a broader sense too.
Well done ladies, and KEEP GOING!
I'm the only one in the office today, so have pulled up my story and going to write as much as I can today (of course work takes precedence so will do what I need to do there and write around my workload)
I've also started jotting down ideas for two totally unrelated books that have been floating around in my head for a while.
Eeeeeeeeeeh 29746 words! Getting closer to caught up now and only have to write 2000 a day from now on. Considering I've had a few 3-5k days in a row, feeling pretty good :)
Hope you got a bunch done today Sopdet!
argh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just after I wrote the post about getting stuff done, got hit with a pile of work, have written about 1,000 words today on the story and about 6,000 words for work (would be so nice if I could include every single brief & letter I have to write into my word count!!!!)
Doh! How are you going now?
I'm just about to hit 40k so right back on schedule but considering no weekend during the month have I done more than 500 words, I'm going to try and keep pushing out a little bit of a buffer. Story isn't anywhere close to complete though which is a bit disheartening, I figure it will be around 70-80k when done. I read back some things I had written though and impressed myself haha funny how you forget what comes out sometimes...
Anybody still out there? I've just passed the 45k mark and am on the home stretch. As predicted I did nothing over the weekend but had a 3k day yesterday and hoping for a similar one today... I'd really like to buckle down and bang out the entire 5k today just to be DONE although not really done since the story still has a bit to go! I just want my purple 'validated and complete' bar haha.
Eeeeeek I'm going to do this yay!
you go girl!!!
monster effort :D you'll make it easily, now
:happydance:
we salute you.
:leap::leap::leap::leap::leap::leap:
Just hit 50153 this morning :)
JF, that's FREAKIN awesome! Well done!!! :cheer:
JF congratulations!
Thanks! Feeling pretty chuffed :)
There is still about 20-30k to go until the draft is finished so I'm hoping to bang out that before the baby arrives (34 weeks so could be as little as 4 weeks or as long as 8, DD came at 38 weeks but that doesn't really mean much in the way of planning haha) and then can spend the next year editing while dealing with newborn antics and toddler wrangling... realistic?? Guess I will see how I go, no real pressure but now that I've come so far I would like to get it done, done even if it takes me a while... I'm 50k ahead of where I was a month ago right ;)
:happydance: :leap: :loveshower: :leap: :happydance:
well done, jelly!!
that's seriously awesome :D
Just putting this in here in case anyone has anything they want to try and get published....
Saw this on Penguin Book's FB page:

The Monthly Catch
The General Publishing team at Penguin Group (Australia) is keen and excited to read new work from Australian authors, and as such we’ve developed the Monthly Catch. For the first week of every month, we throw our doors open to unsolicited manuscripts. In this time period (the 1st to the 7th of every month), please send through submissions based on the guidelines below.
We are only accepting submissions electronically – all hardcopy submissions will be recycled. And we are only accepting submissions in the first week of every month; anything that comes through outside of this time will not be considered.
When you send through your submission, you’ll receive an automatic email acknowledging receipt. All manuscripts are carefully read and assessed, but we can only respond to those who are successful. If we do not contact you within three months of submission, please assume that we have decided not to pursue your manuscript. No further correspondence will be entered into.
We are not currently considering poetry, educational textbooks or plays/scripts. For books for children and young adults, please see the separate submissions instructions below.
Attach your manuscript and a short synopsis (of no more than 300 words) as separate Word documents and send via email to monthly dot catch at au dot penguingroup dot com
Excellent tip off pakrac. Will you be submitting anything?
Not yet, MD, but it has inspired me to get cracking. Wrote a couple of chapters out today, so was pleased with that effort :D
I always said if I was going to try and get published, it would be with Penguin. They're such a nice bunch of people!
