    Smile Poems for Busy Mums.

I came across these poems in the information package I got from my midwife, and thought I would pass them along. They are reminders for me, and perhaps others would appreciate them too. I know I often tell my kids to wait, 'cause I am busy cleaning. It's hard to remember they won't always be at home with me, and I should enjoy it while I can.

    Song for a Fifth Child
Mother, oh Mother, come shake out your cloth!
Empty the dustpan, poison the moth,
Hang out the washing and butter the bread,
Sew on a button and make up the bed.
Where is the mother whose house is so shocking?
She's up the nursery, blissfully rocking!

Oh I've grown as shiftless as Little Boy Blue
    (Lullaby, rock-a-bye, lullaby loo)
Dishes are waiting, bills are past due
    (Pat-a-cake darling, and peek, peek-a-boo)
The shopping's not done and there's nothing for stew
And out in the yard there's a hullabaloo
But I'm playing Kanga, and this is my Roo.
Look! Aren't her eyes the most wonderful hue?
    (Lullaby, rock-a-bye, lullaby loo)

Oh cleaning and scrubbing will wait 'till tomorrow.
But children grow up, as I've learned to my sorrow.
So quiet down cobwebs, dust go to sleep,
I'm rocking my baby, 'cause babies don't keep.

    The Beach
It's too much trouble to go to the beach,
    We'll wait for another day,
    When the clothes are washed
    And the floors are scrubbed
    And everything put away.

And then one day my work was done,
"Let's go to the beach" I said.
But I looked outside, and the wind was cold
And the summer leaves were red.
And I looked around for the golden heads,
But the children too, had flown
And I know now, if I go to the beach
I go to the beach alone.

The first one is just great.

The second one made me cry! I love it!

That's pretty much how I felt too. I think I should post them on my wall somewhere to remind me to go out and do things with them, and take the time to read them stories, etc, while I still can, (and while they still want me too! LOL)
