I can't believe my boy is 1 today! Although I can't remember what life was like without him now! ;)
:happybirthday: Liam!
happy birthday Liam!!!! Well done for surviving the first year of parent hood
Hi Everyone!
I hope all your babies are enjoying their 1st birthdays! Its hard to believe a year has gone by so fast.
We've had a few immunisation issues in our house this time, although, I've also done a little research and found that Boyo was immunised in a "wonder week" so not only has there been crabbiness from the immunisations, and also had some crabbiness is with that! We went from months of sleeping through, to a couple of weeks (so far) of night waking and screaming and velcroness.
Still, I celebrated my 30th birthday yesterday, and my husband did a wonderful job with my birthday surprise!
Benjamin and I went to Hey Dee Ho music in the morning, then had a nice quiet evening, then Matt came home with a little Swaravski crystal bear holding a birthday pressie for me from Benjamin, and then we hopped in the car for my surprise, which turned out to be then evening at Drallion, the new Cirque Du Soliel production, it was FANTASTIC!
Benjamin was a superstar for my boss while we were gone!
It was all around a wonderful day!
Catch you all soon!
hay girls a few thoughts for discussion. how clean is to clean?
should you take time away from your kids inorder to maintain spotlessness?
how often do you go out for the night or a few hours with out them.
so these are all things facing me ATm the moment with rob and i living apart. we try to make good use of time but sometimes feels like he spends to much time with other ppl. I look at my friends kids who are so differnt to russell. they have these spotless houses but they are junk eating tv crazy toddlers. i am tidy but not spotless. maintain hygiene ect, but i do wonder if russell is more relaxed cos i am.
Also the thought of leaving him with his nan chills me to the core. he to date hasn't had many pos experiences stayin with her and now hes getting older i worry they will affect him even more.
Thoughts ladies????
Russell is 11kg and 82 cm he very quick on his feet and just todaqy climbed from the floor up into his high chair.... growin up to fast. we still only got 5 teeth but hes in the 95th to 97th percentile for development accross the board
Hey Kira! Sounds like Russell's doing great!
I work full time so I don't look to have time away from Liam in *my time*. We've never been out without him since he was born! We've been out individually - but usually to do errands that would be harder with him - iykwim.
DH is Liam's full time carer and the only time he spends away from him is every Friday night is gaming club (he's a miniature wargamer). He helps to run the club and has been doing it on a Friday night for many, many years - so he wouldn't dream of not doing it because Liam's here. In fact, Liam will go too when he's old enough!
Our family is SO not spotless! Like you - we're hygenic, but not spotless. There's mess but not dirt - iykwim. I try hard to worry about that stuff at night when Liam's asleep - but also try to balance it with getting time to myself and with my DH. So sometimes the dishes don't get done for 3 days or mess doesn't get tidied up for a day or two. I just try to keep on top of the washing (we're in cloth nappies here!) and my SIL & MIL come once a week to wash the floors and bath/toilet, etc. We pay them $20 each to do this - they're on low incomes (SIL is single mother to 4 kids) so we do this to try to help out and also so they come & see Liam at least once a week (SIL is so busy that she wouldn't get here to see him very often, even though she wants to and loves him to bits - she always puts herself last).
KimmyF - thanks for the congrats! Can't remember how I survived to tell the truth!
BW - :happybirthday: Aren't you a young thing?! ;) Your birthday sounds like it was FABULOUS! I would just LOVE to go to Cirque de Soliel one day... love watching it on TV and have heard that it's just AWESOME to see live...
Big 'Hello' to everyone else! *waves enthusiastically*
Liam's learning to walk - can do quite a few meters at a time if he's not tired or thinking too hard about it.. does anyone else's bubs love playing with balls? Liam rolls them in front of himself then cries out in glee chasing them!! Hoping I've got a little football (soccer) star in the making here... ;)
i need help. russell was sleeping through and a few months ago started waking through the night. now hes waking 3 - 4timesfor bottles and is barley eating through the day. i am a Single mum so this is really taking a toll. what can i do. i've tried a variety of foods b4 bed including rice pasta and yogurt, extra formula in his bottles but he won't eat much. i am sooooo tired !!!
Can you try resettling without a bottle? Perhaps offering water instead? GL.
Hi Zennie,
I sent you a pm.
Just thought I'd pop in and say hello. Benjamin is off to hospital on monday for surgery to insert gromits...whilst I know its gonna be good for him, I'm terrified!!
I hope everyones Bubs are doing well...I'm getting majorly clucky for a 2nd one, but we'll wait a bit longer yet, I'm enjoying being with Benjamin at the moment!
Best of luck BW! Thinking of you and BJ.
xx
 BW. I can symphathise...
Zennie - poor darl'. All I can suggest is the Elizabeth Pantley book - the no cry sleep solution. It helps you to establish routines that help him know when to sleep and when to eat, etc. It helped us - admittedly when Liam was smaller than our boys are now.
It says in there that it can only take 3 times for something to become a habit - good or bad. Sequoia's suggestion of water bottles are a good idea - but it will be hard. You will need to do it for a few nights (even up to a week or more) before he gets the idea that you won't give him all his food at night.
Anything at all will be hard if you're too tired. Do you have anyone who can sleep over to give you a break - even if it's for one night?
The other book is a Pinky McKay one and it's available in the BB online store - sleeping like a baby. That even has a section on feeding to encourage sleep...
:grouphug: - let us know if we can help in anyway... bit hard with the distances, I know.
well i persisted yesterday stuffing him full of food.
managed to get 1 jar of apple custard ( appples and farex) some banana and some steak into him at breakfast .
200 ml bottle for morning nap
2 cherios at lunch and some cruskits and fruit through the afternoon.
dinner was tub of yougurt , bottle, veg and 1/ jar banana and mango puree
kept him up till around 8 he took his bottle to bed but didn't drink it . woke up at 4 am. found his bottle drank that and slept till 6:30.
some success he wasn't very happy that i insisted on him eating but i woke up with a headache but with energy
Hiya Zennie,
One more suggestion, have you tried reducing the amount of milk in his bottles during the day to help make him hungry, also is he having a bottle when he wakes for the day in the morning, before brekky?
Benjamin does the following (just as a guide)
Wakes 7:15ish
Weetbix (2) and milk in a cup (150ml total, he usually drinks about half.
Plays til around 10:45 then wants lunch (mornings are when we have swimming, and music so he's usually well occupied and so doesn't have morning tea).
Lunch (200ml tub of yogurt, sometimes a bit more or custard, followed by some fruit or a piece of cheese).
120ml of milk in a bottle, sometimes he drains it, sometimes not.
In bed about 11:30 (sometimes later if we are out and held up, always in bed by 1:00)
Wake 2 3/4 to 3 hours later (usually between 2 and 3:30)
Arvo tea (coupla savoys, some fruit, a rusk) with milk or water
Tea at 5pm (vegies, meat etc, followed by yoghurt if he finishes his vegies), clean teeth, bath around 5:30, and into bed between 6 and 6:30 (after 120ml of milk, and a story)
You may find that if he has less milk in his bottles during the day, you won't need to persist so hard to get him to eat because he wont have filled up milk?!
Thanks for the words of encouragement guys about the surgery...I'm sure we'll be fine, but I'll still have a nervous breakdown, I wish I could go in there with him to hold his little hand....
Zennie - good on you for persisting *clap clap* Good job! I hope you can keep it going ok.
BW - Are you taking him into theatre? If so, I'll PM you my advice on that...
HI all
Just popped up to see how Zennie and Russell are going!
I hope everyone else is well!!!
hay Guys.
we are doin much better. we have curbed the night wakes and are back to 7pm to 5 am night sleeps.. we have been really busy with renovating. there is only 2 weeks till my parents move inwith 2 younger siblings and we are no where near done with the renos. still got to paint all of upstairs and downstairs we still need to cornice set sand paint and tile half the house. so every spare minute is taken up with renovations atm.
how is bejamin doing after surgery. hope you have him home and happy
Hi everyone,
its been a bi quier in here lately but I have been MIA for awhile too, hows everyone????
All good here (except a bit of night wakings). He's currently 'singing' while he's *supposed* to be getting to sleep!
Starting to say more words : cat (had that one for ages), shoes (his favourite item of clothing) Mum, Dad, thanks (rarely used) and some names of his cousins. The only consistent ones are cat and shoes... the rest come & go. And tonight in the bath, I think he said 'fish' and tried to say 'frog'.. but it's all a guess!
He's eating ok - small amounts, but a good variety of food. Usually what we're eating. Loves a curry! And his staple food is yoghurt, bread and cruskits - but not all together
He's in a size 1 and some of them are getting snug.. no idea what he weighs or anything!
Love to have an update on the other bubbies..
