Kelly - I've never been able to use J&J bath products on Janae - they dry out her skin too much. I was SO disappointed because I love the smell of J&J baby soap...I also use omo sensitive washing powder because normal washing powder dries out her skin after even one load.
I find curash bath products work well. You can also get 2 chemist brands that are good - Thompsons & umm, what's the other one???? bugger, pregnant brain has kicked in - I'll let you know...
ETA - just remembered...it's Michaels. I think thats the cheaper one too.
Hope the boys' skin clears up soon.
-
argh, vent coming....
Set up the scenario. Jen & I have separate medicare cards. Something most couples will have when they are just the two of us. We are registered together for the Medicare Safety Net thingo, but still on separate cards
So Medicare... visit number 3 in 3 days
Go in day #1 - want to enrol family onto one card. Get some form to fill out
Go back in... Nah, this is the enrolment for people coming in from overseas. You need this form
Go back in today... Nah, whilst this is sort of the right form, and is used for people merging two cards, you also need this and that
If on Monday, it still isn't right, I will be sooooooooooooo mad :fuming: :fuming: :fuming:
-
Further update on my :fuming: mother.
Finally had enough as you all know she didn't ring me at all during my pregnancy. The boys are now just over 2 weeks old and I haven't heard from her at all (phone, email not even a baby card) so tonight I have sent her an email with photo's of her grandsons (really cute ones she couldn't ignor) and asking her what she wants as it seems she doesn't want to know her grandsons - We'll have to wait and see if I get a reply....
Abs - another tip on increasing milk supply is to express more than needed between feeds, it makes the breasts produce more milk.
-
I thought i'd find you all in here....
Wonder if i can pop in occassionally from next door at March.....
Well last night Luke slept right thru..... =D> I put him to bed around 10 and he didnt wake till 6.30am today....... So good......
This morning we sold one of our dogs..... only one more to go..... I cant wait to clean up the yard and put the kids outside toys out there. I no longer have to worry about them playing outside with the dogs anymore. I can just let them out to play whenever they want......
And even better, we can have friends and family over, without the constant barking from the dogs ...... can you tell im excited....
Is anyones bubs beginning to smile????? Luke is sorta hinting at a smile but, not properly.....
Im also having my uterine prolapse back again..... its very annoying having a part of your insides sticking out.... For those who dont know, the prolapse is what caused me to go into pre term labour at 35 weeks.... I had a slight bit of it b4 pregnancy but, it got worse with the pregnancy.... All seemed to go back into place after birth but, this last week its coming out again....
the only real cure is a hysterectomy, which i dont want at this stage..... Mainly because of the hospital stay!!!!! im hoping a bit of physio might tighten things up to a bearable level...
Also i was wondering, would Lukes milestones be that of a 6 week old or a 1 week old?????? as he was 5 weeks early, i was just wondering.....mainly coz he's just starting to be like a 1 week old baby, and slept constantly thru the first 4-5 weeks of life....
See you all soon
-
Kell really is an inspiration... You go girl and somehow let go of your mum. It's obviously her doing, why, maybe you'll never know :( But at least you've tried
Ta Theresa, at least the staff at my one knew the form - showed me an example of it - I couldn't even remember signing it. Turned out Jen had it in an envelope ready to send to Centrelink. I'll take it into Medicare with me on Monday - it can actually go to either apparently
Better go - things to do about the place - I've never been so busy doing housework in my life. Jen is finally trying to get ontop of some work things. Hasnt done her BAS from the Jan-Mar quarter yet

Theresa
I have problems with the boys at times too. Steve went out for a couple of hours today and they didn't stop wanting me during that time, and Adam cried for 45 mins. Lucky I had a sleep in so I wasn't tired its just hard when they are crying and you can't do anything. I had changed his nappy and fed him and he was still crying.
This afternoon we went for a walk with the dogs and when we got back the boys slept for about 4 hours, actually had to wake them around 7pm to feed them - Steve then laughed that I must have exagerated about what happened when he went out as they were little angels.
I've done nothing with the forms for the maternity allowance - I better get them filled in tomorrow and lodge them Monday if I can. Does anyone know how long it takes to receive the $3000 ?
How are you all going with night time feeds? - I am really finding I am getting into a routine. I feed whoever is asking for me first then if the other other hasn't woken I change the nappy of the first then give him a top up of 20ml of EBM (or Formula later during the night if run out of EBM) The reason for the top up is to hope they sleep longer during the night. If the second bub is ready for a feed before the first has his top up then Steve gets up to to the nappy change and top up while I feed the second bub. I find that most nights they take it in turns who goes first (don't know why, but maybe they are learning to share already \:D/ )
Then after the feeds I top up the kettle, clean the nipple shield (need that for my thick left nipple that Hayden uses) clean the bottles, then I feel relaxed to sleep and that all is ready for the next feed, hoping I have time to get at least 2-3 hours sleep before it starts again.
-
Geez Kelly - you are amazing!!
I am really struggling to get Amber to sleep in her bassinette. The worst part is, whilst I am trying to sooth her, I fall asleep - then wake up again when she wakes up for her next feed - that's happened a couple of times now so I am hoping she's not getting used to falling asleep on mummy
-
Sounds as if you really are getting into a routine there Kelly
We think the week off for Jordan is causing quite a few problems. Will definitely need to suss out that Maxalon and that recipe... just barely had time to think
He's also causing Jen quite a bit of pain when he starts sucking... is that what the nipple shield is supposed to help with ?? We'll see if the battery pump we have will do the trick for the next feed. Try and express some... will do a bottle feed then express for the feed after that. I'm staying up doing what I can whilst she sleeps as much as she can
I'm sure it gets easier eventually :p
And I guess one good thing about staying up, is that I got my work laptop to finally work over our Broadband connection, versus having to use Jen's work landline (even if it's a 1800 number it dials, it still ties up the phone line). So means working from home is now a breeze \:D/
-
ta Theresa, it is only for about 10-15 seconds - She tried to get a nipple shield today whilst out and about and getting a few other things. No luck. I'll try somewhere tomorrow
Think it could be that he is getting used to the sucking action required for the bottle, which we guess is different for the booby action required. She can't even think of wanting to feed via her left breast at the moment, so is attempting to express from there - though she's lucky if she gets 15 or 20ml at a time :(
I've told her about the Aktavite recipe - is the skim milk powder actually required ?? She does love her Aktavite
Hope you have gotten Georgie sorted out by now
-
HI everyone
sounds like we are all working out our little bundles atm.....
Logan still really hasnt settled into a feeding routine, I thought it was 4hourly then he some nights he wants it every 2hrs?? he seems to be sleepin fairly well between feeds and can sleep through lots of noise which is great, especially when Jasper is up and about! It has started to get really cold here already(down to 4degrees yesterday morning) Its such an effort to get out of my nice warm bed... I might take to feedin him in there with me i think??
Susan- I find myself fallin asleep even before Logan has finished feeding, sorry I cant offer any suggestions......
Theresa- IKWYM re: the snuggles Japser has gotten a little better with them now Logan has arrived though and is asking for the occasional cuddle.
Abs- Hope Jen keeps trying it will get easier soon, you can usually gety the nipple sheilds from most chemists.
KellyW- Wow you sure sound organised!! Re; the $3000 it took 2weeks for mine to go through but then i already recieve payment for Japser and it went through when i normally get his payment? dont know if this affected it in any way? Also Re; the bath products i found anything with laural sulphate in it really dries thier skin out, AROMABABY is a really great brand and also GAIA they are 100% natural and smell georgeous!!
HI to everyone else sorry if i missed you? 8-[
Will try and get on here a bit more reguarly....
Take care!
-
argh just went to the shops, knew I forgot something (the shield)
back I go... hmm, now where to look
actually Jen is back at the hospital today - to the physio which is on the same floor as the maternity ward. Due to the time taken, there was a nappy change required, then a feed. And since she can't feed enough for what he wants, she's gotta go back to the car to get a bottle for him
Apparently the MW nurses are all fussing over him being now 3 weeks old, and that little bit more alert than the newborns
But she did say she had no probs feeding on the right B, one she hasn't used for a few days due to it being really sore (expressing from it though)
-
has enyone elses babies belly button bled?? Logan started bleeding a little about 2 days ago? its not pouring out just a little on his nappy wear it rubs and then a dry bit on his belly button??? if it continues i'll go see the dr i think??
-
Anna - sometimes that does happen, do you clean the cord? I was told to use a wipe and a cotton bud & rub around where it hits and to try & keep the nappy edge off it. Matilda's lasted for ages and would get a dark discharge but I'm not positive it was blood. Maybe call your local Child Health Nurse & get them to check it out first.
-
Anna, it might be worth getting it checked out - I'd be concerned if it was bleeding. But could be that the last of the "stump" has come away, and is healing up ?? I dunno
We use disposables and the top of the front part folds back away from Jordan's belly button, so there's no rubbing on it via the nappy. His clothes of course would potentially rub. But it's actually gone down below the skin level if you know what I mean
My sister who was here a few days ago said it looked in great shape. She was a bit slack with her 2nd bubs belly button, and it stank for a while before it healed properly
Anyways, Jordy is being a bit vocal and Jen is trying to sleep, so I better rescue him before he wakes her
-
Abs – Adam latches on really hard too (almost feels like he has teeth and is biting hard) but Hayden is nice and gentle whether he is using the nipple shield or not. May Jordan is like Adam and has a firm grip
AMH – thanks about the bath stuff – I have a couple of Gaia samples so I’ll try that out tonight.
Theresa – where do I buy the Beauty & Bees products?
Abs – My local chemist has the nipple shields in the baby bottle section (Avent brand) 2 in a box.
AMH – my babies belly buttons bled also – The maternity health nurse said it was normal and to wipe with a cotton ball and cooled boiled water. It will eventually heal over. She also said is it OK to bath them before it heals over too.
-
Ta Kel
Jen was actually told today not to bother with a nipple shield !! Hmm, will see how she goes over the next day or two
Also re Maxalon, apparently that isn't recommended much anymore - due to something... There's another one called Domiperodime - I know the spelling isn't correct, but it's something like that !?!
-
Hi Everyone,
Just a quick note to say that Bel's little man is here, Josiah Mark born at 4am this morning, weighing 8 pound 12!
I hope everyone and their bubbas are going well, the hours in the day certainly go quickly now.
Thinking of you all, but have to go and tend to a screaming little man at the moment, be back later to try adn catch up!
-
-
thanks for the update Lisa
How you going Susan
Hmm, after yesterday and Jordy's nappies being pretty clean, today they have been fully loaded
Just gave him a bath, was doing really well until we picked the camera up, then he screwed up his face !
Drying and dressing him, he was a sweet little angel again - hmm
-
All's going well in this neck of the woods, we actually got through a day yesterday without her usual 8-11pm hissy fit so am stoked!! She looks to be gaining weight so quickly - calling her chubs now, her little cheeks are ballooning and she's getting a double chin!!!
We've got our first 'First Time Parents Group' Meeting today, so should be interesting.
I swear these lil' tackers must know when the camera comes out! Must be like an inbuilt sixth sense or something.
-
Hi all,
just popping in to say hi and glad to read that everyone is generally doing well with your new babies!
Great news about Bel, imagine you'll hear from her within the week as she is now officially a member of this group.
Hope things keep going well for you all and I hope to be able to join you sooner or later unless this stubborn little monkey decides to hold out until May!!
-
Hello everyone,
I hope you're all well. I can't wait to join you all in here really soon.
KelliC
-
HI everyone!!
Thanks for the advice on Logans belly button, It ended up clearing up the next day but I did give it a clean with some boiled water and its been great ever since.
Kelli and Joy- I really hope you both join us in here real soon!! All the best for your births. Sending truck loads of Labour Vibes your way!!! :contract: :contract:
Abs- I hear you on the camera thing!! Jasper used to do excalty the same Logan isnt quite as bad just yet.....? Maybe its because we cover our faces with the camera and its not something they're used to seeing??
Theresa- Great to hear that your app went well and the drugs wont affect little Georgie!! Must ease your mind. Gotta love those Cuddles you dont have to ask for!! Good work Em!! ;)
KellyW- How are your boys going?
Susan- Are you managing to stay awake with your night feeds?? I fell alseep again this morning at 6am whilst feeding Logan only to be woken up at 7 by Jasper asking "What you doin Mum??" was kinda cute! How was your parents group??
Logan has put on 370gms in a week!! He is doin soo well, next week we will do his length and head cir. I cant believe its nearly been a month since our wonderful babies arrived!!!! P.S- I posted my birth story too if anyone wants to check it out?
Well both my boys are fast alseep so I think I might join them,Take Care everyone!

Hi everyone!
Well i'm finally here!
It has been a very eventful few days.
My due date came and went with no sign of a baby coming and since we were moving an induction was organised for friday morning. Went in at 7.30am, waters broken and drip put in at 9.30am and i was in established labour at 12.30pm. Started asking for an epidural at about 4.30pm when they checked me and found i was already 9cms and gave me the gas to try. I found it to be annoying and didn't work so just coped with the pain as best as i could. started pushing at 4.50 and she was born at 5.21pm.
Head came through so well with no tears but then she turned and had a shoulder dystosia (sp??) and was all blue. so emergency button was pushed but she came out fine. i however ended up with i third degree tear.
She was 9lb 6oz and everyone is so surprised at how big she is, but she doesn't look it now.
we finally decided on Abbey Jane for a name after about two days. She has been feeding and sleeping so well so far and i hope she keeps it up.
I got discharged from the hospital monday and we made the trek to dubbo. Chris left last sunday for wodonga and is really missing seeing his little girl. We hope to be down there with him in a week.
Hope everyone is doing well.
Abs... sorry to hear about jens milk supply, i have been having the opposite problem, whenever i feed milk is everywhere, s i have to be home with towels on me and if we go out i have to time it so she won't need feeding. i'm hoping it settles down soon.
congrats bel on josiah! hope it is all going well.
sorry bout the lack of personals and don't be surprised if it doesn't make sense. still very vague!! I will do better next time.
Talk soon
-
welcome back Amanda and Abbey Jane
Jen's milk is coming back in. Jordy only occasionally needs a bottle topup, so feeling much relieved on that front. Of course we have plenty of other drama's going on with her dad and mum so not much fun at all
On a good news front, I've been allowed to keep the work laptop, so since I already work remotely (all my colleagues are in Canberra, and I work from the Sydney office. All my contact is via email & phone
So with this work machine, I can work from home just as well as from the office... will only need to go into the office a couple of times a month to fill in my timesheet etc which I can't access from home - Jen is sooooo happy about that.
The question of doing this has been put forward to my team leader who reckons its a good idea, and she will put it forward to my senior manager, who is already aware of my good work that I've done in the last 11 months since being back in Sydney and working remotely (I started the job in Canberra and spent 10 months commuting there from Sydney on a weekly basis)
-
Amh – boys going well. Can’t believe they are 3 weeks old already
Amanda – I had the same problem with milk. When I was feeding one of the boys the other boob was leaking, but it has cleared up now.
Abs – sound great re your job if you can continue to work from home
Vent time :fuming: – Steve has just received an email from my mother – unbelievable – it was 3 pages of complaining about me and things I did up to over 20 years ago when I was at school  . Even some comments trying to cause a rift between me and Steve – He was furious. Nothing about her grandchildren either ??? :fuming: So guessing this will be the last we hear from her.
:fuming:
-
Oh Kelly, seems at least we have the reasons for her not wanting to talk to you - but 20 years, that's a long time. So sorry to hear that.
Sounds as if you and Steve are strong enough in your relationship to not let whatever she tried to have an effect, that's good to hear
I couldn't care less what Jen did years ago
Not quite a vent, actually a funny story in a weird way from here. One of the guys in the industry that Jen works in, is known for his mouth. She kept the pregnancy very hush hush, as having her own business could be put in jeopardy if people knew, and thought she wouldn't be able to do what she needs to do
Anyway, this one guy, who everyone has kid gloves around cause he has the foulest mouth if you are in his bad books. And spreads gossip very quickly too
So he hears about Jordan early last week. Comes around to visit late last week, needs a couple of things scanned so he can go work overseas too
Apparently in the last 2 or 3 days he was pretending to be so in with everything and know all, tried to tell a couple of people that he knew Jen was pregnant over 6 months ago.
Now that is really funny, coz we hadn't even told our families 6 months ago :cryinglaugh: :cryinglaugh: :cryinglaugh:
One of the guys in the group, did know "early on", and knew full well this guy did not know way back then :cryinglaugh:
Can only laugh

Hi everyone, thought i'd pop in from March baby buddies......
CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE NEW MUMS AND BUBS over the last couple of days.....
Anyway today I had my 6-8 week check with the health nurse. It was the first time Luke has been looked over or weighed since we left the hospital.
As I thought my little man has put on heaps of weight. Since we left the hospital which was 6 weeks ago, he has put on 1420g.
His head is 3.2cm bigger and his length is 4.5 cm longer.
Everything else is aok!!!!
She said he will have the milestones and development of that as a 2 week old at this point and not a 7 week old. Because he was born at 35 weeks.
I thought this is what it would be like. Coz he is like a two week old and not really smiling yet or doing much at all.
She also said they like them to aim for bubs to put on around 200g per week. He definatly achieved this and about 30g more.
Now all we need to do is have our GP check on monday the, its needle time with the 8 week immunisation at the end of the week
I hope you are all well and getting plenty of rest when you can.....
Seeyou soon...
-
You are so right Theresa - I would gladly provide the money if I could fine a desserted enough island to send her to.
Steve has now said she is not welcome in our house so if she changes her mind and wants to see the boys I will need to meet her elsewhere (which is fine with me).
-
I'll drink to that - cheers
-
Oh you poor loves, my mum is the exact opposite - but can I join in on the drink anyway??!! ;)
-
Hmm, desserted islands - I'll go too - sounds yummy !! (sorry, it was just soo tempting to do that one)
Well, I'm just about to go pick my mum up from the airport. She has a conference on Wed and Friday here in Sydney, so has come up for a few additional days
I have some great work news I'll post in the Woohoo forum later when I get the chance, was gonna post it last night but Belly was done - but just quickly, work has agreed to let me work from home - yipeeee
-
well I have just had my first exploding nappy
I washed and dressed the boys after a feed and play. Then put them to bed. Not long later Hayden was crying so I thought I would bring him upstairs for a cuddle while was on the computer. He felt a little wet through his clothes and wrap - but when I checked ....wow... what a dirty nappy.
I guess this is just the beginning
-
hehe, I understand Kelly... had many 3 or 4 nappies used in the one change yet ??
-
LOL Kelly I hear you on the exploding Nappies!! Always seems to be just before we go out too!!! just as well i guess ;)
Has anyone else got an enormous appetite??? I just cant seem to stop eating??? :eat: Even when i wake to feed Logan at night Im looking for something to nibble on??? might have to go buy some chewing gum just to keep my mouth busy??
better get some dinner organised before Logan wakes.
Take Care
p.s. Abs congrats on being able to work form home!! Bet Jen is just as excited ;)
-
Hello everyone!
Just found this thread and thought I'd add and introduce myself and son to you all.
I had my first baby on 17.04.06 two weeks ago tomorrow.
He was born @ 33.4 weeks and still in hospital.
Nixon was 2296g & 48cm which is a great size due to his age.
after a rough start he has come so far and now just a matter of learning to suck and fattening up! Im so anxious to have him home but may have another few weeks to wait.
I haven't experienced an exploding nappy as yet but did experience a projectile poo whilst changing him yesterday which squirted all over my hand!!
How is everyone else's bubs doing?
-
Welcome aboard nickers
Watch the wee too. I have had some wet hands and even changed his clothes twice during a nappy change, but can only laugh with Jen when telling her as he eventually gets to feed when finally clean and dry. She's been wee'd on far more effectively than I have
Hope you get to get your boy home as soon as you can. I honestly can understand the feelings you must be going through, as Jen has a spasming back that is giving her heaps of problems. Thank god my mum came up from Melbourne yesterday... she's helping me look after Jordan. Jen was quite emotional earlier, knowing that the pain she was getting feeding him was too much and so couldn't even hold him. We finally have her on some pain medication, but again means not being able to feed him
-
abs- thanks for the welcome, sorry to hear Jen is in pain and not having an easy time. Jordan is gorgeous just checked out his web page! You guys look so proud!
hehe little boys like to wee when being changed don't they! when both of us have been their to change we have a team thing going, one changes and the other sheilds the area! He has already weed on his own face a few times! Funny thing was when he pooed on me i didnt even think it was yukky but funny! i suupose after a million more times i wont think its too funny will i!
Ive been on an emotional rollercoaster for the last 2 weeks. How do you cope with it? I feel sorry fro my DH because he doesnt know wheteher im coming or going. On top of dealing with leaving my baby behind each day my dad is about to be operated on in 2hrs for prostate cancer. All my family are in Sydney which doesnt make things easier.
Anyway life wasnt meant to be easy was it, these challenges just make us stronger, if i only i could realise this when i am actually crying about it.
AMH i have been hungry but more so thirsty all the time? I cannot get ver how dry my mouth gets is i havent had a drink it the past 10mins? I need water beside me all the time now! wondered if this has something to do with breast feeding and my body telling me i need to keep up water intake?

Thought I better move from the Bellybuddies to the babybuddies, hope you are all well, I am still struggling with my little man, hopefully it gets better soon. I can't believe April is over, it seems like yesterday that I was 6 weeks pregnant, now my little man is 3 weeks old, boy does time go quickly!!!
-
Hey Nickers, Welcome!!!- I really hope your little man comes home to you soon, must be an emotional rollercoaster for you.. Yes the whole thirst thing has alot to do with breastfeeding, especially when you have a let down. its not a bad thing though coming into winter we tend not to drink as much water so having a thirst for it is good. I try and keep a bottle of water near my chair for when i feed Logan, just gotta remember to fill it up before i start feeding  Strange how we laugh and our bubs bodily functions  yet if Jasper was to do it to me now I would probably think otherwise!
Lisa- Welcome!!! I hope to get to know you and Tyron better. Feel free to post any problems you may be having we might be able to offer some sort of help???
Abs- Bummer about Jens back, poor thing isnt having a very good time of late.. Thinkin of you Jen.
