Yay! Ben slept through the night last night! I feel like a new woman today :)
Jen, the doc said PRE-natal depression, but I'm not worried at all really. I think the doc just caught me on a bad day. Seriously: shingles, busted toe and no sleep - what did he expect?!?!?! I laugh at Ben just as often as always and having the light at the end of the work tunnel next week has really cheered me up!!!! :)
Usually Ben sleeps 3-4hrs during the day, but only at home. When he's out or at mum's it's more like two hours. He only sleeps 9 or 10 at night (generally speaking, this week is not a good example!!!) though because we have to leave the house at 6am. I'm hoping to break him of that habit when I finish up next week :)
I'm off to have a lovely, non sleep-deprived day!
-
Hello all...
Cant blame anyone for it being quiet in here - seeing as though half of us have a new bubs to look after! Hope you and your bundles are well, Mel, Kris and Kel x
I guess pre - natal makes a lot more sense Dis, I think you're right tho - you certainly had some things to be upset about! Sometimes it just takes that "outsider" to ask how you are too? I always loose it then! Wow Ben has really long day sleeps! I cant complain tho, Beau is in bed by 7pm most nights and up at 6am, we really enjoy the time in the evenings together too so I would rather have that than a big day sleep anyway. Speaking of - he just wont go down for his today - so unlike him.
Anyway best go and fold washing.
How werid is the weather today? Raining one minute - boiling hot the next?!
-
Just saying hello...got home not long ago and got to get Rebecca up coz my boobies are HUGE! my milks just come in and shes not a great feeder....oh well. Will chat soon, hope you are all well:)
-
Yay Mel, glad to see you are home and well. Urgh, the milk coming in! I hated that. I didn't sleep the night that happened because my boobs were like rockmelons - in size and hardness! How are you all doing?
Jen, yep, crazy long day sleeps for us. I too would prefer a longer night sleep, but with me working fulltime it just doesn't allow it. I'm hoping it might change a bit when I'm home all the time.
The weather is nuts! It's SO humid outside and windy too. Looking out my window right now it looks like that's it for the rain for a while.
I just got back from a lovely lunch and stopped at my fave cake shop for an afternoon treat. Yummo. The only problem is waiting to eat it until a more suitable afternoon tea time!!!!
Ben was up again last night, but DH got up to watch the soccer so he took care of him before he went to work. Good timing I say. DH said that he thinks he had a tummy ache because he gave him a lovely stinky nappy. I don't mind so much when he wakes up for a reason, it's when he wakes up and wants to play at 1am that it's a problem!
Anyway, all well here today. One week left of work (I have tomorrow off for mw appt). I've told them they can expect me for a max of three days next week too :)
-
HEllo, tis quiet in here, although i dont expect that i will be able to get on every day several times a day from now on!!!! Wow life is busy and I have only been home just over a day!!! Trying to organise Olivia and Rebecca in the morning was a nightmare, and dh was back at work already so i think i managed well. Olivia did smake Rebecca in the head for me not giving her bottle over. Then she started smaking herself in her head when I saind not to smack the baby...oh the joys!!! But Olivia is so cuddly with her and wants to give her loads of kisses and cuddles..although the cuddles are more like...lets lay on rebecca!!!!
My milk is in I have huge rockmelons and unfortunately Rebecca is still not attatching well...both with or without the nipple shield. I have booked myself in for the lactaion clinic on thursday so I hope that helps. I do thinkshe will be able to get there...just slowly. So for now its...try with the boob then top up with ebm. Not my ideal, but I have to do it.
I have managed to clean the kitchen tonight and put the food into the new fridge. The rest of the house looks like a bomb hit it. And i should do some washing coz we'll have no clothes.
Ok, Im feeling tired and I know the little one is due for a feed so take care all
-
Mel, I think you're doing great to even be thinking about washing and doing the fridge. DH back at work already?!?! That's no good!
Good luck with the bfing, hopefullly the LC will be able to help out.
We had a couple of fantastic nights where Ben slept for 11hrs and 10hrs but last night (when DH went back to work after his weekend) he was up for 3.5hrs! It's crazy. He's been a real daddy's boy the past week or so too so I think he sensed that DH had gone and woke up at 12:30am! At least after this week I don't have to worry about staying awake at work! I miss my afternoon naps!
-
Far out Mel I agree with Dis, you are doing incredibly well! I think you should just exist in a bubble for at least a month with a newborn - what better excuse have you ever got for not doing housework but then? Olivia sounds really cute with Rebecca (other than the smothering of course!) but kisses and cuddles sound lovely! Hope the bf'ing improves - try to stay calm and relax, i always struggled with that!
Dis - Sorry Ben's sleeping is so irratic for you - at least work is almost over and you can take it a bit easier if you can. I am sure Ben's sleeps will work out once you are home full time and dont have to wake him in the morning. I am sure he is going to miss his Nanna caring for him too - she sounds amazing with him! So patient! An afternoon nap sounds really good today.....
Us - we are ok - Dh and my BIL got a boat on Saturday so DH was mia on the lake all weekend - he is going away for a golf weekend next Saturday/Sun too - I am feeling a bit low and sorry for myself today - a little bit lonely actually. I am pretty isolated with no car here and although there are lots of mums and bubs around here, whenever we go to the park its deserted! How on earth am I supposed to meet any of them? Stalk? He he! You know when the days turn into weeks and you only chat to an 18 month old??? Ok sorry rant over:redface:....Beau is sitting watching tele at the dining table eating his cheese and ham (addicted!!!) so i better go check on him.
Take care! Hope everyone is doing well.....x
-
Jen, can you contact your local council or Mother and Child Nurse to see if there are any playgroups or Mothers Groups? I was really lucky with my Mother's Group and we still see each other regularily - with and without the kids - they're a great support.
I wish Ben was addicted to Ham and cheese, actually - no I don't because then I'd want some  With him it's carrots of all things. Last night all he had for dinner was carrots. Odd child. Baked dinner and all he wants is bloody carrots!!!
He is SO going to miss his Nan and my sister. Mum has vowed to come over at least once a week though, and I know she'll spend a lot of time with us when the new bub arrives too - and she'll spend that time with Ben more than the bub methinks. I'll also be going over there quite often for a break! She comments daily how much she's going to miss her little man. It's going to be hard for both of them :(
-
Hey girls....been on a cleaning mission again!!! The house looks half decent! I am so an@l about housework, if its not tidy i get flusted. Feeling much better now i can see the bench tops!
Mel- hopefully ben will sort his sleep out when your home for good. Enjoy your last week and hope you get loads of nanna naps in,
Jen- nI hear you about the loniness i feel that too sometimes especially when dh is out and about doing things he enjoys and even working. Hope you meet some nice people.
Well dh was ack at work the day after I got home, so managing well. Olivia was terrible on Saturday, she was banging her head on the floors hitting herself, the baby, us. She seems to have settled though and today we went to the shops. Definately need a twin pram though!!! Rebecca is doing better, she lost loads of weight over the weekend and they were thinking of readmitting her, but I stuck to 3 hrly feeds plus tops ups and she managed to gain 70gms over night. She will get weighd tomorrow again and hopefully put more on. My nipples are sore, but it seems that bf is getting better. Looking forward to lc on thursday. I really want to be able to bfeed this time and to be able to do it without xpressing or using the nipple sheild.
Ok, daddy has Becca..who is wide eyed and hungry
take care
Love melissa
-
good luck with the feeding Mel, that's a good weight gain overnight, hope it keeps up! Can't believe a) Adam back at work with no babymoon b) you're cleaning c) you didn't get the twin pram! MissyMoo sounds cute as, the headbanging's annoying! we get it here too (plus biting)
Jen - I know what you mean with the lonliness too hun. Try the local library for tot times before the school holidays start ..
DG - yay on upcoming naps! Lucky Ben, sounds like he's enjoying himself, carrots and all. Pip won't eat stuff at the moment, but will always eat his fruit! If only DH would give him fresh fruit, instead of tinned ....
Anyhows, tomorrow I'm seeing the doc and he;ll let us know if its OK to start TTC! Pip's growing so much, they're all getting such big kiddies!
Mel, Kris - I need baby snuggles, when can I come visit!
-
Hi Girls!
Thanks for the loneliness support - dont feel like such a looser!
Yay good news for me - we just walked up to the local church (its baptist so I was a bit scared at first that it would be church goers only, as we are non-religous) and met a lovely lady in the car park that runs the playgroup! Its twice a week and about 200m from our house!!! Yay yay yay! Might actually meet some mums - so excited - am mentally picking out Beau's outfit as we speak! And she said its mostly mums that arent in the church. I also just emailed DH a list of the strollers I like that have one hand fold so we can get on the bus easier without B freaking out that he cant see me while I collapse the pram! Hopefully he will feel inspired and go and get one! Why are all the cool ones so incredibly expensive?
Mel - Even though you are a bit weird about the cleaning - I hear you, I get funny too if the house isnt magazine ready! I change the house around once a week - thats my OCD! Even if I know no-one will drop in, I always clean everything and get dressed, put make up on etc, I think its a good thing to be a bit anal about anyway! As long as you arent running yourself ragged that is. Glad Becca put some weight on, hope she continues too - you sound a bit more confident with bf'ing, hope the LC is really helpful, what a weight off your mind if all the bf'ing goes well and no bottles, formula, breast pump, sterilizing...urk! The babgiesgalore website has a twin pram section I saw this morning if you want to check them out. We havnt started headbanging but we have dog sitting and hitting!
Dis - Dont worry about the carrots - B is obsessed with cheese and milk and carbs! At least Ben's is a vege! It must be lovely to have such a nice relationship between your mum and Ben. He will miss your sis' bub too huh? Not too long before he will have one all his own at home anyway!
Kaz- Thanks for the library tip Kaz, might investigate that. Good luck at the docs!Hope you can TTC soon!
I am ovulating in a few days so DH and I are DTD like crazy trying for a bubbie girl:dance: are we supposed to stop (without protection IYKWIM) once I ovulate? Only do it in the lead up?
-
Just a quicky to say congrats to Mel on the birth of your little girl... and good luck Jen with TTC...must go very whingy boy here who has refused to nap today and sleep for the past few nights:wall:
hi to everyone else hope you are all doing well
-
Oh wow, everyone's been in for a visit!!
Mel, things sound like they're going ok....I found the first 6wks or so the worst. After that things really settled down. Lily is fine with Liam now, though does the suffocating 'cuggles' too, LOL! She tries to sit as close to him as she can and usually sits on top of him.
With your bfing, I'm glad you're seeing a LC. You can do it!! I was tempeted by formula too, Liam was actually having formula top ups before we left hossy, when I got home I decided I wasn't going to do it anymore and he would be only bf. It took a few days of constant feeding, but he was happy enough mostly. Now we haven't seen a bottle since we left hossy, and it's sooooo much easier than when I was feeding Lily, no bottles, sterilising, formula making, yada yada.
Lily was smacking herself for a while too, and headbutting the cupboards, me, the furniture if I didn't give her enough attention or what ever she wanted. But she's gotten used to waiting a bit now. I try to explain why she has to wait, I give her the sign language sign for wait, and say the word too, and tell her why simply- Wait, mummy's changing Liam's nappy Lily's turn next. She seems to understand better now, though still gets impatient, especially when she's tired or hungry.
Don't worry about your house either, I still have days where I get nothing done and it ****s me no end, but it happens and the kids are more important.
DG, Lil's turned into a bit of a daddy's girl too. She sometimes refuses to give me kisses and to come to me if she's being really clingy!
Jen, you should get DH to take Beau out in the boat and give you some me time. Then you'll really get some time alone! Instead of him getting all the time for himself.
Ok gotta go screaming baby.....

Hi!
Long time no post! We're going really well! Ethans been a bit more unsettled lately but I think it's cos my milks well and truly kicked in and I nearly drown him..poor little man. LOL! Dh went back to work yesterday and I was a bit nervous but we've had a great couple of days...I think the 2 big boys have settled a bit too...we even managed to make crowns and turn them into kings yesterday and I made yummy avocado nori rolls today! Keeping on top of things which is a goods start...not sure how long it will last though! LOL!
We had our first trip away on the weekend up to the PIL...the boys did sooo well! Especially considering since we've moved that it's now a 2 1/2 hour drive! Ethan slept the whole way and Louis & Dylan had naps as well so it was a relaxing trip! The boys loved getting away and having lots of attention from their oma and opa as well!
Dylans just gorgeous at the moment - giving Ethan lots of cuddles and kisses. He's learning new words everyday and surprising me with how much he knows! He's full of surprises!! He's such a cheeky, gorgeous little monster!
Kel - Gosh, I don't feel on top of it at times! LOL! Although I am a lot more relaxed this time around I think! Ethans just going with the flow really...then again I'm only 2 1/2 weeks into sleep deprivation...give me another few and we'll se how I'm going! LOL!
Wow at your dh's friends throwing him a surprise party!!!
Well done on the bfing as well!
Disgirl - How's your toe? Gosh..I don't blame you for being over it after no sleep!! LOL at staying home for 6 months - I'm sure you'll be fine!
Pre-natal depression? How about you're p/g, tired, have a little one to run after and not much time to yourself?? Anyone would feel overwhelmed at times by that! Silly dr!
LOL at Ben eating carrots - I hope he doesn't turn orange! LOL!
JenSam - Good for you and dh having such a good talk about the time after Beau arrived. Puts you in a great position to deal with things better when no 2 makes it's arrival!
As for day sleeps, Dylan sleeps anywhere from 1 1/2 - 2 hours mostly...probably more often 1 1/2h I suppose...he has around 12 hours at night as well but is waking quite a bit for some unknown reason...it's dh's job to get up to him now though since I'm forever feeding Ethan - LOL !
I agree though - I think it's important to have that chill out time to yourselves at night after the kids are in bed...we've always tried to get the kids to sleep as close to 7pm as we can...
Big hugs with dh being away doing things at the moment...I don't blame you for feeling so isolated...Thats great you found the playgroup!
Ooh how exciting - I hope it's your month!! I believe if you go by that method you would stop prior to ovulation...Gosh your good if you do - I'm to impatient and just go at it anytime - LOL! Although in saying that we only TTC Louis really...Dylan and Ethan we tried without trying as such!! LOL!
Von - Hi! Hope you get some sleep!
Mel - Wow on dh being back at work already! How are you coping? Mornings are probably the hardest with a new bubs around! I have to watch Dylan with Ethan also...he's quite gentle but a couple of times has gone to pick him up! LOL!
I hope your milks settled in now...can be hard when your boobs are engorged...
Well done on the feeding so far - she's obviously getting enough to have put on so much weight overnight!!
Kaz - How exciting - what did the dr say about ttc? You can come for a visit anytime!!
Ok...must go and get ready for bed...Chat later!
-
well, the doc says go for it! he'll support me through it! yay! Apparently the meds I'm on increase heart defects, but the risk of that is less than the risk of downs' so that puts it in perspective really. And the BiL is a cardiologist ... so just getting blood tests for toxoplasmosis (i have cats) and rubella before we get mirena removed and then ...
Jen - apparently you need to not DTD 1 day prior to O or after for a girl - I know we'll be trying that!
(can you tell I'm excited?) Great news on the playgroup - good they're not all churchie, it can be a bit daunting if they are.
Kris - I am SO coming to visit soon! Ethan's so cute!
Kel - baby sign language? is it really successful? Lil sounds cute as though!
Mel - how's becca's weight going? can't wait to see piccies!!!
Von - I think its that time, pip has bright red teething cheeks again ...
We have our first Christmas Concert on the 11th - apparently the nursery will be doing a sing-song! Can't wait!
dream pretty all.
-
Good morning ladies! My second-last day at work!!!
Kaz, We did a few signs with Ben which were really helpful. He actually invented his own signs for a couple of words, but we figured them out pretty quickly and we haven't ever really had a problem communicating with him. It's not as useful now since he's coming out with new words all the time, but it was handy from 11-16 months or so, and he still uses signs as he says words now.
Good luck on the TTC!!!
Kris, the toe is doing much better in these last couple of days, thanks for asking :) I think the doc had to bring up pre-natal depression, just in case I guess. I also think he caught me on a REALLY bad day and I'm usually so happy and cheery when I see him that he was a bit concerned. No worries from me though, definitely NOT depressed!
Sounds like you and your two little kings had a good day and a wonderful weekend away. I still reckon I'll be house-bound for six months after this bub arrives!
Kel, I'm so glad you're so happy with your bfing journey with Liam. The thought of formula and all the work of sterilising etc truly scares me  Ben never had formula and the only time we used a bottle was for EBM and I found that so time-consuming. I'm hoping this bub is as natural at bfing as Ben was. I'm far too lazy (and tight!) for formula!
Von, I think Kaz might be on to something. Ben has had some red patches high on his cheeks too. Probably those 2yo molars moving around. It seems we never get a break from bloody teething!
Jen, EXCELLENT news on the playgroup!!! As for the ttc a girl, I think you have to steer clear of O day and the two days either side ie. one day before, one day after. Even then though, you still might get some strong boy swimmers!
Yep, Ben will miss his little cousin, but I'm not sure how keen he will be about his new baby being with him 24/7. At least he gets a break from Paige at the end of the day!
Mel, well done on Becca's weight gain! I don't know about 'enjoying' my last week of work, but I sure feel a lot happier knowing I won't be here next week...or for the following 51 weeks!!!! :)
I'm as breathless as anything today! I think I might go for a walk soon to see if I can get the bub to move a bit. Had terrible heartburn yesterday and last night after a pie for lunch. Pies set me off when I was pg with Ben too - I should have remembered!
Ben has been sleeping MUCH better. 11hrs last night and that was after a 4 hour nap yesterday! It's great to have such a long sleep from him in the day when I'm at home because I get a lovely sleep for myself, so it's not a habit I'm keen to break.
Does anybody else feel like their little ones are understanding EVERYTHING they say? Ben just amazes me with his comprehension right now. He still confuses a few words, like this morning he was pointing at a brown car and frowning. We didn't know what he was trying to tell us until I said "Oh yes it's BROWN car" and he broke into a big grin like "FINALLY you get it mum!" Brown/frown - same thing really! How silly of me not to pick up on it straight away!
-
Hellooo!
Just got back from our first playgroup session which was very successful! Discovered Beau likes playdoh and body slamming small children:doh: But overall it was good - always weird lobbing into new people especially in a new area but they all surprisingly had 10 fingers and toes! He he! Beau is having a nap now - hopefully it will be a long one! He wouldnt have one yesterday then I finally got him asleep after two attempts and our dogs barking woke him up after 20min!
Dis - Like, Woah at Ben and how clever he is! I cant believe how amazing he is with his colours! He must have one hell of a mumma. I think i need to start charting my cycle a little more dilligently (at all would be good) cause I think I have strong boy genes for sure - I have three brothers myself! Hope your heartburn improved - stinky pies! Thats awesome on Ben's long naps and sleeps, woo hoo!
Kris - Well well you ol' sex maniac! Youre so funny! You are an amazing lady, going away already, with 2 and a new bub? Does your DH kiss the ground you walk on? I dream of a day I am as together and relaxed as you!
Kaz - yay on ttc'ing! We can try for a girl together! Not literally!
Kel - You sound really well, now that you have said things get easier after 6 weeks, that is so going to be my marker now! So good you didnt resort to the formula when you got home, it so tough when its all so hard and emotional at first, it takes real strength to stick it out breastfeeding.
Von - Hey there, hope you are getting some sleep around your place.
I told Dh that its preferable when trying for a girl that the woman doesnt orgasm and the missionary position is best - every night now its "are we trying for a girl tonight?" LOL!! Arent they hilarious?
xxx
-
Jen, that's so good that playgroup went well. It is always a bit awkward when you rock up somewhere new and don't know whether people will be a bunch of weirdos or not
Oh, and Ben isn't as smart as I made him sound. Some days he's really good and gets all his colours right, other days everything is blue, or orange
I'm only on for a minute. We finally got our new computer and WOW I can't believe how much faster it is than our six year old clunker! I LOVE macs!!! Just in time too, my last day at work is tomorrow. Spent a lovely day out shopping with my mum, sis, SIL and our three babies. It was lovely and I bought two summer dresses that should get me through any hot summer days.
Best be off to give the boy dinner.
