ok masons reflux has disappeared! he hasnt spewed at all in over 2 days now so i decided to postpone the ultrasound. I am really tired today and i had finally got stuck into cleaning the house and didnt want to curse myself.
I left mason with my SIL for 2 hours today. That is a HUGE step for me. (even though they live in the next street :p)
He was an angel of course. And now we are home, he is wide awake again LOL
Kristie: yay on the weight gain! well done! and his pic is gorgeous...his smiles are just tops!

Caro, I’m using a Medela Lactina electric pump – on hire from the ABA. I pump about 10mins each side (sometimes more, sometimes less) after every feed, and sometimes more frequently if there is a long gap between feeds. I usually only get 20-30ml, although during the night and first thing in the morning I can sometimes get 50ml. I also have an Avent Isis manual pump, but I don’t find it very effective, and it hurts a lot more than the Medela Lactina.
Melissa – I know that feeling of not showering for 2 days lol. This arvo, I managed to put Jambin to sleep (after 4hrs of awake time), so then I hopped in a nice hot steaming bath … 10mins later he was crying again *sigh*
Danni – great to hear that there’s been such an improvement in Mason’s reflux. It’s so awful to see them in pain (not to mention the accompanying stress and lack of sleep for mum).
Kristie - ahhh – Dylan is just gorgeous. He looks all scrummy and snuggly! Gotta love those winter bubbas.
Krysalyss – great to hear that Iggy is gaining so much weight. He must be lovely and cuddly by now. I was dreading Jambin’s vaccinations too, but they ended up being OK. In fact, he cries much more when I breastfeed him than what he did after the vaccinations. My GP said her receptionist will think she vaccinated the arm of the chair by accident LOL, because most bubbas cry more than Jambin did.
Hugs to gigi, Melissa, Cindy, Kellie … and anyone else I missed (can’t scroll back any further lol).
Jambin now weighs 5.5kg. I’m really pleased that he’s gaining weight, but suffering from chubby baby envy. He was born weighing 4.86kgs, and while his height & head circumference have remained above the 98th percentile, he has only gained just over 600g in the 9 wks since he was born, so he’s long and skinny, like a sausage lol.
Breastfeeding is still horrendous … I spend all day coping with a baby who is fighting the breast (he screams, punches, scratches, pushes away). I hate it, Jambin hates it, and I end up sobbing most feeds. I have thought long and hard about this, and I am going to ask my lactation consultant tomorrow how to wean him from the boob. I will continue expressing milk for him, and maybe even keep up our nighttime feeds, as they’re the only ones he doesn’t refuse, but it’s all just getting a bit too much for me. It takes me about 1.5 hrs for a feed ‘cycle’, which includes a breastfeed, bottlefeed top-up, express, wash bottles. Times that by 8, and I’m spending 12 hrs a day just feeding him, and upset for most of that. At the end of the day, we currently don’t have either a happy mummy or a happy baby.
On a happier note, Jambin ‘talks’ so much now … it’s really cute! And … he slept for 9 hrs straight last night!!!!!!!!!! My poor boobs were rock hard by the time he finally woke up. And I was awake for 2 hrs before he woke, begging him to wake up and feed lol.

Hi Cherie - I so hear you on the bf'ing. I really thought it would be a breeze by now. You are doing so well to just keep at it. Yep Iggy is quite big but he is so tall that he is probably like Jambin - little sausage. Still doesnt have much chub.
I have considered going onto to EBM so will be watching with interest how you go. I am using the avant manual pump though and it is heavy going on the nipples.
Kristie - I do love little Dylans new pic. It goes very well with the ticker as well.
Iggy has been asleep all afternoon apart from when he woke up for his feed then it was straight back down. Very strange for him. But still I am getting some stuff done.

I found my Avent manual pump quite rough on my nipples too. The electric pump I hired from the ABA is much gentler (and much less effort ;) )
-
Yep, I loaned it at your suggestion Caro :)
I'm thinking of buying one, if I'm going to be pumping long term. Maybe the Medela Pump In Style (sold by ABA). They're expensive, but I guess that's what the baby bonus is for. And it would end up cheaper than buying formula in the long-run.

Hi everyone,
Well, it's been a while since I've read all of these posts....
Danni, that's great that Masons reflux is gone. Is the gaviscon that he has normal stuff or stuff for bubs? I think Lily has reflux now that we're back on the breast a bit. She screams after a feed -bf only. She's on thickened formula so i think that's why it's only when she has a bf.
Cherie, I hear you with the bf too. It's such a struggle. I'm pumping, bottle feeding, bf, preparing bottles, cleaning bottles and all of that too. It feels like that's all I do all day it gets to you doesn't it? I had a bit of a break down again yesterday, because she just won't sleep during the day for more than 40mins(if I'm lucky), no matter how tired she is. So now I feel like I can't do anything right...feeding, sleeping it's so frustrating. Though today she's been better with the sleeping.
You lucky woman with Jambin sleeping all night. Lily slept pretty well last night too, she woke at 1:30 then 5:30, mind you we were awake for the day then!! :(
Kristie, Dylans pic is very cute! ;) I'm going to try to change mine soon too.
Ok gonna go make dinner, hope you all have a lovely night!
Kel.

Yeah .. $15/wk, which could really add up if I keep pumping for 12+ months. Also, if I purchased a pump, then I would have it for subsequent babies (we're planning on having lots).
The Mothers Direct website says that the Pump In Style is designed for long-term and frequent expressing, and on another forum that I'm on, there is a group of women who are exclusive pumpers (don't feed from the breast at all), and most of them use the Pump In Style. As far as I know, the Lactina isn't for sale, at least not from Mother's Direct, where I get a 10% discount because I'm an ABA subscriber.

hey kel: Mason is on gaviscon for infants. Its just a powder in a sachet form that you either mixed with boiled water, or you can put it straight into a bottle of EBM (i alternate between the two)
I had a double electric breast pump but found the avent isis to be more comfortable and quicker to express. Isnt it funny how everyone is different?
I even took out the padded insert and its now softer without it!
Kel: Mason doesnt sleep longer than 20 minutes during the day either, but he is sleeping very well at night so i cant complain too much.
Very excited about tomorrow. Mason is going to visit Tinlids casting agency as they want to represent him for catalogues and tv work. Im so proud! then we are visit Tan from the may buddies thread :D

Hi!
Not much from me tonight...
Caro - Thanks!
Danni - Thanks! Thats great news - hopefully the medication keeps it under control! Yeah on having a couple of hours on your own!
Have fun at tinlids tomorrow! Thats great - hopefully he'll get some work...I'm going to join Dylan but not until he's 6 months + old as there's not usually a lot of work for real little ones (not that we've had anything for Louis since his target catalogue)
Cherie - Thanks! LOL at looking like a sausage! Thats great that he's gaining weight now though! Wow at 9 hours sleep - thats fantastic...re: bfeeding - you just need to do what's right for you...if it's that tough I wouldn't say it's worth the stress...Big hugs! In saying that though it does get easier and easier - especially as they start dropping feeds around 5-6 months...
Kel - Thanks! Big hugs - I know it's hard sometimes with the feeding/sleeping etc but I promise your doing everything right. I went through all of this with Louis and was really worried but he just seemed to grow out of it...
Krys - Thanks! Yeah on the big sleeps - hopefully he sleeps well for you tonight as well!
I feel for all you guys pumping away...it certainly makes feeding a drawn out process...I'm sure it will all get easier soon! I know it's hard sometimes but remember these bubbas will get bigger and it will all be a distant memory - hehehe. (Until you have another one anyway!!!)
Chat tomorrow! Sweet dreams to you all!

Good Morning,
I actually got a reasonably good night sleep last night... Olivia slept from 1030pm til 230am, fed, slept from 3am woke briefly but settled til 530am and is now asleep... I will be going back to bed as DH just left for work and its cold, but I thought I would pop in seeing i have free hands:)
Kristie, Dylan is just georgeous:)
To all those who are still b/fing, well done, you're really doing well despite the issues you are having. Cherie good luck on weaning him off if thats what you choose to do. I remember doing that (actually it wasnt weaning but stopping after mastitis and attatchment issues). It hurt a little as my bbs were full, but after a few days it settled. I still have a little milk after 6 weeks of not b/fing....so Adam told me after dtd!!!
Danni, great news on the reflux. I didnt realise it could come and go that quickly, but you must be relieved.
Hey Kel, isnt it hard when the are awake all day... nothing gets done, but I guess at least you get a good night sleep too!! I'm sorry to hear that Lily is screaming after a b/f, sounds like reflux to me if shes doing ok on the thickened formula, but I'm no expert. Good Luck.
Krysalyss-wow on Iggys weight gain. Would be lovely to have a big cuddly baby- small cuddly babies are good too!!!! (Olivias small, lol)
Hi Caro, sounds like Michaels doing ok. Hope you are well:)
MMM, I think I did personals for everyone on this page. Hi to Deb and everyone else I have missed....sorry bad memory!
We have our 5 week ultrasound today at 3pm, so am very excited/apprehensive. Hopefully we get an idea if the harness has to stay or go. Think I would be better prepared if I found out today that it needs to stay on as opposed to next week at the specialist review coz Adam wont be coming. Hes having an echocardiogram at the same time....to make sure his heart is ok after last weekends scare...
Well, am off this time, dont want to waste precious minutes being awake, when I should be sleeping:)
Love to you all and kisses to bubs,
Melissa
