Laura - hope you get some relief.
Holly - you sound like you are having a hard time. Do you have lots of support? have you seen a lactation specialist?
AFM - THe only way that Miss E would sleep last night was in the middle of our bed. I really don't like cosleeping, but it is the only way to get any sleep. I keep worrying that it will start a habit and that I will never get her out of the bed. My arms hurt from having to sleep strange, and I get cold as my top half is pretty much uncovered as I worry the blankets will end up over her head. I am thinking if I still feel how I do in a week, I am going to self check myself back into Northpark.

Sorry selfish post but :grouphug: to everyone.
I am so sad today. My mum and stepdad (who is such a great dad to me) left to go back to QLd today. They have helped us so much and have been the most wonderful support. I miss them so much already :( (tears) It has been so nice to have them here and be in their company. I am not scared to be myslef or anything like that, I just really liked them being around and found it so comforting. (more tears).
Ashlyn has been lovely...she slept much better last night. Fed at 6:30pm, 10pm, 2am, 4am and 6:15am. She didnt really go back to sleep after 6:15am but I avoided cluster feeding her as I had mum here to help settle her.
Thankyou all for the tips on bathing and the dry skin. Good to know about most of them suffering from this and that it will go away. What do you mean by using olive oil in the bath?? Is there a special type? Can I jsut use QV oil?
Also I got given a heap of J&J bath products at my baby shower but I dont want to use them. DO you think if I took them back to Target or Kmart they would exchange for something else? I dont know whre my friends got them but I dont have the receipt and I know that they sell them.
Also another important question about caring for the belly button....now that the chord is off, how do I clean it? It is still kind of bleeding. not constnatly I just noticed a bit of dried blood on her clothes.
Thanks in Advance.
Hope you are all well. ANother :grouphug: for everyone.

 Ali, it's hard when your support leaves but you will be just fine - have you been contacted re: joining a parents group by your MHCN or the like? That is also a great support network. Maybe Woolworths or Coles will take the J&J stuff back or exchange it for Gaia products?
Megie, I'm the same - I don't really want J sleeping with us all the time but she sleeps so well in between us that I get more rest (but I also get a sore arm as I cradle her with it - maybe DP and I can swap sides each night to even it out).
Laura, I hope your pain gets better.
We had Miss J being very unsettled from 8-11pm when she was grizzly and feeding constantly. DP gave her 40ml of expressed milk and she drank it but then wanted more from the breast. She sucked constantly for an hour in bed from 10-11 which wasn't fun! On the up-side she slept from 11pm - 4am so I got 5 hours uninterrupted sleep - woohoo!!! Then back to sleep from 4.30 - 7.45am so I feel almost human. Better go and express again before her next feed... I feel like a cow
-
-
Nai- When you express, does she take from the bottle just as well as she does from the breast or does it affect the way that she suckles? I havnet expressed at all as I am worried about getting an over supply or that it will stuff up our feeding.
I need to call the MCHN as they were supposed to call me back to arrange a visit for this week and they havent. Good idea about swapping sides with DP. I am sure he wont mind.
I have been really productive today surprisingly. I have done 2 loads of washing and hung it out, left DD with DP and went to coles to get a couple of things, made the bed (even though I am sure I will be in it this arvo) and am about to make lunches for DP and I (hopefully before Ashlyn wakes up). I have so many thank you card to write and I want to ring family assistance this avo after Ashlyn's next feed, however if I dont get round to it today I will do it tomorrow.

Oh I love my Dh...all I had to do again last night was feed Miss A...he did all the nappies, settling etc...and I slept...feel a million bucks this morning! Fed at 9pm, 1am, 5am, 9am....spreading out to 4 hourly feeds...is that ok??? She is getting so heavy! Just wondering...how do you all deal with other people visiting and wanting to hold bub? I am having some sort of 'bug paranoia' and don't want anyone near her...all caused from the whooping cough outbreak here...but feeling so paranoid! Any advice would be great! Ex
-
-
Ellie- I feel the same way as you with visitors. I dont even want to take Ashlyn to the shops with all the outbreaks of it as well. I also have some teacher friends from work who want to come and visit but I am worried that they may have some sort of bugs from the kids.
-
-
Ali - I guess all we can do is follow our intuition and if doesn't feel right..don't do it! I was going to have a friend from school/work over for coffee on Friday but in her email she mentioned her DD has been in hospital with really bad tonsilitis...so I'm not doing coffee now!!!

Hi girls, just a quick post at this point - I hope it's still cool that I join this thread even though Mr. Jacob wasn't earthside until the 11.03.09?????
Hello to MeggieMoppit, Holly and Ellie - sorry if I've missed anyone new, I haven't read the whole thread, just skimmed parts of it.
Just wanted to let you know that we got home from hossy last evening. It is so good to be home and I know I slept better (although maybe not longer) because I was dreaming last night again.
I found my birth experience to be pretty overwhelming and every day has been a bit like 'day 3' since. Of course I would do it all again and would not have made any different decisions and there is lots and lots of positive stuff but I still can't even read what Pat posted in the other thread without crying. I will get around to the full story at some point because it might help me process it.
Anyway - love and hugs to you all!! I hope you're all having 'good' days. I'm off for an afternoon nap as Jacob just went down himself.
-
AJP - Will have to go and have a read.
Ellie- Sounds like your DH is a dream. Mine would do the same if he wasn't at work. The only thing is that I still won't sleep if I think I can hear her.
Det - Sounds like a growth spurt.
Ali- It is hard when the family leaves.
I tried to settle E in her cradle today. Using all the self settling techniques. She cried on and off hysterically for an hour. I think I cried just as much as her. It is the first teary I have had since she was born. To top it off, J howled when I dropped him at childcare and clung to my leg. That also upset me.
E is still SO GASSY. I think that is waking her up. Today when i was trying to settle her and watching her, I can see that she fights sleep. She would be almost there, then startle back awake.
Just feeling very teary today........

hi kaz! I'm here if you need to chat or debrief at all!
Ali, J takes the bottle pretty well but won't drink as much or for as long.
Just back from 4w check and J is still Little Miss Average - 50th %ile for everything! 4.15kg and 52.5cm so she is doing really well. She has an umbilical granuloma so we need to go to the GP and have it burnt off :(
-
-
Kaz- SO good to see you in here hun. You know that we are always here to talk to and to debrief to. Hpe you got a good arvo nap while Jacob is sleeping. Does he sleep and feed well?
Nai- Ash was 52.5cm at birth!!!! She has long limbs like her daddy though. I am not sure what an umbilical granuloma is but I hope it gets better. Hopefully it will be over so quickly. Maybe post a thread on it to find out some more info or anyone else whose bub has had to have this.
Det- I find the 2hour feeds a nightmare. It feels like you just finish, settle them and fall asleep and then your back up again. Hope that when DH gets home you can have a chance to put your feet up.
Meggie- You are doing a good job hun. DD is very gassy as well. She lets some rippers fly at times!!! Not sure how long they are gassy for, I have heard of something called infacol??? I am not sure from what age you can use it but its for wind. Someone else might know more.
Ellie- Good idea to cancel that coffee date if her DD has got tonsilitis. You and bubs def dont need that!!
AFM- Gave DD a bath. I decided her bath days can be Tuesday and Friday as thats what I did last week. Trying to get myslef into a routine more than her so I can keep things under control on the home front. I would love bath time to be something that DP can do but it is hard when he is at work.
Speaking of baths, I had one last night while mum and dad were looking after DD. Oh it was nice!!! I have been having heaps of showers but it is not the same as lying in the bath!
-
Hi girls,
Typing one handed. DD doesn't want to sleep unless I am holding her. Maybe I need to put her in the baby carrier again... did that this morning, worked well.
We also went to the MCHN today... seems to have been the day for it!
Little miss porky has stacked on another 570g in two weeks, she's now up to 4.7kg or 10lbs 8oz! She's sitting on the 90th percentile for weight... and she has had a massive growth spurt, she's now 57.5cm long, which puts her on the 95th percentile for length!! :o
Head circ she's only on the 25th percentile though, the nurse said she has a long head, not round.
So that's really good, probably explains why she's been so unsettled the last couple of days too, all day/evening she just wants to feed and cuddle. The last couple of nights she's been feeding every 2hrs too so that has left me exhausted.
DH tries to settle her but she just seems to want to sleep on my chest...
The MCHN also thinks I might have thrush... not nipple thrush like AJP but just the standard type, "down there" (sorry TMI) I was talking about the ABs and my epi getting infected and she said it doesn't sound like its infected again, its not painful, just smelly, it might be thrush. So I'm going to try a cannestan type thing... see if that helps.
She did say to watch out for nipple thrush and also oral thrush in Isabel :(
I feel like it never ends... when will my body be 100% normal again???
AJP - great birth story :D Also, how do you know you have nipple thrush?
KAZ - HI! Sorry for the caps, just so excited to see you here :D Please take all the time you need to process... enjoy these first few weeks with Jacob, they pass so quickly. Each day might be long but the weeks run past quickly...
Nai - the granuloma sounds a bit ick. Hope it is ok when it gets burnt off. You asked about bleeding a while ago, mine has tapered off to a bronzey colour but I'm still wearing pads. Also - your cow comment - I am so glad someone else feels that way too!!!
Meg - Feeling teary is ok hun. We all feel teary every now and fthen... but you know your body and the warning signs, as Det said, if you feel those walls closing in, please say something. That's great that you are open to going back to North Park. Great hosp, they will look after you if that's what you need.
Also I know what you mean about fighting sleep. I cuddle Isabel until she is dead asleep, all heavy and relaxed, then try and sneak her into her cradle... at night its fine, but somehow during the day she fights it and wakes up after 5-10mins. So frustrating! They just need to learn I think...
Ellie/Ali (that's confusing LOL) - we are the same with germs, we have implemented a "no kissing the baby" rule, until she is at least 6 or 8wks old. They just have such an immature immune system at the moment... we don't want her catching anything that can be avoided!
Det - can I boycott MG until next week  Nah the rest of the mums are ok, thanks for letting me know, I'll miss you and Mr Boof!
Ali - about the cord/belly button, I found Isabel's bled a little bit too, the MCHN said that's fine, I just rubbed a bit of the bottom balm I use onto it. It has cleared up now. Also, Isabel still has patches of dry skin now... but they are getting better.
Holly - I know what you mean! I'm a bit blocked up at the moment too. I'm taking Benefibre, maybe get onto that? It doesn't taste and dissolves really well, unlike fibugel. My bum hurt yesterday too - though I had a haemorrhoid (ew) but it has gone now. We have to believe it gets better!!!!
Laura, how are the BBs today?? Hope you are feeling better.
I think that's everyone... sorry for the mammoth post!

And the cluster feeding begins...
