Oh wow Kirsten... I am so glad that everything is okay with you!!! I bet you were worried sick... how bizzare that would have felt not being able to feel Quinn feeding.
Kel - I hope you have a nice, relaxing time at the hairdressers. I can't wait to be able to have a day at the hairdressers for myself... I am waiting until I reach my goal weight, and then I am gonna spoil myself rotten for once!! lol
Oh... speaking of goal weight... I have lost 7.4kgs!! OMG... I am over the moon with this!!!
I was speaking to my Nan last night (she lives in Sydney) and I was telling her that I need to lose so much weight that I put on after having Harrison... I put on weight whilst breastfeeding rather than losing it... the only thing I can think of to explain why would be that I was eating the amount of calories I was meant to, but Harrison wasn't feeding correctly.. so I guess my body just kept those calories and turned them into something more for me to lose!!! I was a big enough person before this!!! lol
Anyway... I am on my way now... nothing is gonna stop me now!! lol
I hope everyone has a great weekend :grouphug:

Hi girlies. I forgot to say huzzah for teeth and crawling yesterday, how crap am I?
Just to say DS is almost crawling - well, swimming. He lunged forward in the bath last night (he loves playing with the plug) and started to swim/crawl, but hated it. Too much drinking bathwater, methinks!
How many other babies are babbling and how much do we love it? DH is getting sick of Dada already!
Also, DH reckons demand-feeding is making DS wake every 2-3 hoursovernight - everyone else here demand-feeds with sleeping through/waking once babies, right?
-
elouise rolled onto her tummy today! the highlight of my day (refer to boohoo room). but her reflux is not improving, i'm going to get the swallow and endoscope etc tests done. i want to know a cause and get her treated.
-
Hi all,
Lisa - wow, can't believe there is already a crawler in this group - how very clever!! DH and I were just taking bets today on when Monkey will crawl - I think it'll be around 9 months for her, so mid Nov. Seems so far away!
Kel - You are very brave, I have lots of trouble leaving Monkey - I think we both still get separation anxiety at this stage!! Plus, she won't take milk except from me for love nor money! (We have given up on EBM from a bottle, now trying spout cup, as she will take small amounts of water from this).
I have heaps of friends who leave their babies too and I often feel like the over-protective one... but it works for us! I often get laughed at by my mothers gp (I really am the odd one out there.... part of the reason I went searching for like-minded people on net) for being the "softy" and for my parenting philosophy: avoid crying at all costs!! I figure they cry enough as it is, why risk more than necessary! Hope you are happy with the hair cut. :)
Catherine, hope all went well with Paed.
Ryn, I'm glad Monkey is nice and average in this group - aren't big babies the best!! You're right, there are some big babies in this thread.... must be all the love!! I'm now scared to try meat.....!
Monkey has been up to some new food last couple of days. We have just started 3 meals per day and have started some yoghurt and mashed banana for lunch, which she seems to like. Does anyone else find any tummy probs with pear though?? Monkey seems to get a bit fretful after pear; I think it may just be that its a laxative and it makes her go...?
Actually, I have some quest about food.....
Has anyone tried broccoli or spinach yet? I have made up both; we've tried spinach, but not the broccoli yet, as it looks not really mashy enough - still quite bitty. Monkey didn't really like the spinach with potato, but took to it much better mixed with carrot.
Also, has anyone tried avocado yet, or are they a bit young?
I think I probably stress about this whole food thing too much and have been fairly conservative the whole way...
We have been saying that we must turn Monkey's car seat around for a couple of weeks now and have just been a bit lazy.... tomorrow is definitely the day - woo hoo, how exciting!! She's always been a pretty good traveller, but I think she'll love it even more now.... I hope anyway....
ooooohh, my laptop is running out of battery, better run, Kym
-
Ryn, I missed your quest...
I still demand feed and Monkey usually wakes me once in the night (that is often still her "6th" feed, as she often has around 5 in the day/evening). "They" say by 6 months babies should be down to 5 or even 4 feeds...... I rarely listen to "they" !!
-
Hahaha, 2 hourly breastfeeds WITH 2-3 solid meals. We can do 6 hours, but it isn't easy.
Cate, I hope things pick up for you soon, Duckie. Sounds like you're really going through it right now.
Food... I tried broad beans last night, that's a no. But bread is yum. Going to have butternut squash risotto for dinner - I'll make DS's with baby rice. We get banana poos and sweetcorn poos, but other poos are "normal". Save for last night's, DH had to open the doors! I'm very precious with DS's food; my mother (with whom I do not get on) wants DS to have chocolate and ice-cream. No way!

hey hey
demand feeding and sleeping through since 5.5weeks.
she has woken up in the night since then at growth spurt time and teeth time.... i dont even notice, benji gets her puts her on my boob and takes her back all happens in less that 15mins usually... so ryn tell your dh that it is NOTHING to do with demand feeding why pubert still is not sleeping through, I have a friend who has the same troubles but she found that she was jumping up when he was grissling so he didnt wake his daddy and then putting bottle in his mouth so he was used to her reacting to nighttime action so kept waking?? now he not so bad
avocado.............. JEMIMA LOVED IT
today she loved baby yogurt too! lapped it up
and also for those having trouble getting baby to lap up pumpkin a TEENY TINY bit of vegemite in it has worked for jemima
other than that we are only on banana, farex, baby vanilla custard, apple and now GRAPES, she loves to chew on the grapes
hairdresser was good, 3 hours away from baby was weird, i got a bit antsy when i was picking up lunch afterwards but while i was there i chatted away and relaxed a little, but as jemima is never really that bad i think i did miss her, benji loved being with her though, and i think he loves feeding her, i am lucky she will take the EBM i am sad that meant she had a bottle, i didnt think that now she is doing well with sipper cup to give her it in that.... oh well the bottle wont be a regular thing, the next appointment i made is a jemima time one but the one after that is going to be just me
when bellydancing starts up again i will consider expressing for that too but that will be all...
kym, i am sure that my mothers group says the same things about me... none of them could understand i DIDNT want to leave jemima, there fore i had no reason to think about bottles or expressing or anything... they dont get that i enjoy being with her and love every second of it and if she cries i pick her up and cuddle her, i agree there is no reason for them to have to cry!
lisa WOWEEEEE that is so much weight to lose - you rock!!!!!!! congratulations!!! i have platued but it my own fault.
cath - so sad for you about elouises reflux, how bad is it??? how often is she bothered by it?
kirsten - i think i will get the marakas for jemima or maybe a tamborine.....actually first purchase is going to be some blocks so that jemima can start playing awesome like i saw bella on youtube.... and a boomerang pillow to help her sit up better............ how is quinn with sitting??? is he climbing up on stuff?
-
elouise chucks up nearly everyday now. sometimes a little, but lately a lot. over the w/e it was about 1/3 of all the milk she had in the day. which is not good, as she has the bare minimum for her age and weight. she's not always upset by it, but appears to have heartburn a lot. i'm to give her mylanta after feeds, but stopped when giving her homeopathic meds. which do nothing, so back to mylanta. can't make an appt for her until monday when they're in the office, and hopefully we're not waiting till friday. they're only at the closer office on tues and fri, and at the further on mon and wed.
she has solids, yogurt or fruit for brekky, about half a jar. same but veg for lunch and dinner. but mainly i only manage to get one solid meal into her as she loses interest or gets really tired.
don't know my weight loss but its not much, maybe 5-8 kilos since giving birth. we have no scales so i dunno.
elouise rolled onto her tummy again this morning, so that's great!
i'm going to have to see the doctor about my own stress levels, might need counselling or medication. i can't go on so stressed.

Kym - Harrison loves his Avocado... actually, we started thinking he liked it a little too much as he was only eating things if there was avocado mixed in with it... but now, he is starting to eat a much more varied menu thankfully. Yesterday he ate cheese crackers and bits of orange, apple and banana for lunch, and he had chicken, cheese, corn and pasta for dinner... it was the first time I'd tried him with pasta... but he loved it.
-
catherine - do you get a break at all? do you go to a mothers group?
-
Ryn - Any consolation Erin has decided to start waking every 2-3 hours at night again. I'm blaming it on teeth????
-
kristy - what is erin like in the day time?
-
Thanks for the food tips girls. Will definitely start to get more adventurous - avocado here we come!
In saying that....I am starting to wonder if Monkey is reacting to the yoghurt I've been giving her at lunch - this is the 3rd day we've had it and the last 2 of these she's been really unsettled and screaming in pain about an hr or 2 after lunch - yest she had it with banana and today with pear, so not sure. She also has a slight rash on her face today??? Think I"ll give it a break for couple of days - could just be coincidence.
And speaking of toys - I was just saying today to DH that I really want to get some blocks... musical instruments sound like fun too - good idea! Obviously some of you have a real piano.... Monkey has a great little (very old, 2nd hand) Fisher Price piano and she never fails to amaze me with just how clever she is - she learnt the cause and effect nature of it (ie. press the key and you get music) when she was only about 4.5 months!!!
Catherine, without wanting to sound too opinionated (but I'm sure I will, sorry), I think you should try to impress upon your paediatrician how bad Elouise's vomitting is... it sounds to me like he/she might be dragging the chain a bit in diagnosing it as true reflux. I have heard that the Mylanta (even the special baby one) is primarily supposed to be used as a diagnostic and temporary thing for babies - ie. if the Mylanta works, then it means they need the "real" stuff. Again, please don't take this the wrong way, as I have no idea what type of relationship you have with you paediatrician, but have you thought of getting another opinion? And regarding your own health - if you think you want some help - go for it! I saw a psychologist for much of 2006 and have recently started going again (it is pretty much the only time I ever leave Monkey) - I have anxiety issues and now I'm a parent, lots of stuff from my childhood is rearing its ugly head - anyway my point is, talking to someone REALLY helps me, so I would recommend it. And I know this is an online thing and I'm one of the one's who likes to keep some anonymity, but I notice you are in Sydney and if you don't have support to call on, I would love to offer any help I can.
Hugs to all, Kym :grouphug:

Smylie - Erin sleeps pretty well in the day normally 2 x 1.5 hour sleep and then a 40-6 min sleep early evening. I will probaly start her on solids as she is nearly 5 1/2 months and she does seem hungry when she wakes at night.
At the moment she is just all over the place, though touch wood she has been asleep now for a little so fingers crossed we may have a good night.

Hi all,
Lisa: I was a bit worried, especially when they wanted me to have the biopsy straight away. VERY glad all is ok though. WOW for your weight loss good on you and WOW to Harrison's varied menu,
Quinn is still eating the basics, Pumpkin, Avocado, Green beans, baby millet cereal, zucchini...he doesn't really like the fruit, gives him a sore tummy.
Kym: it's possible that the yoghurt is causing the screaming, some of the "they" say you should leave anything cow's milk based until 9 months...but this isn't the case for all babies. Also banana is fairly acidic. Sometimes it's so hard to tell what causes the issues when the babies are having them. Quinn was fairly colicky when he was about 3 months and I went crazy eliminating things in my own diet and none of it changed it at all. Sometimes they just have an immature gut.
Catherine: I feel for you!!! I had those same awful anxious feelings a few weeks ago, as a result I have joined a post natal exercise class and also have a massage once a week (a complete luxury) it is a good idea to talk to someone about it, it's one of the worst feelings you can have!!!!!!!! HAving a baby with relfux is soooo stressful! I agree with Kym, maybe you need to get a second opinion. It's torture having to listen to your baby cry in pain like that!
Kel: Quinn doesn't sit up on his own but if I sit on the floor with him he sits in between my legs and he loves to sit up and play with his toys like that. he will pull himself up to standing if I hold his hands, but doesn't pull himself up on his own. Not like super standing baby Pubert :) A friend of mine has plastic maracas and they seem better from an eat the paint of point of view although the sound isn't as nice. I also have another friend who has bells on a stick for her little girl and she loves that! Musical toys are great.
Anyway, I'm so tired Quinn has been waking up at about 5am screaming and screaming and screaming and nothing seems to calm him down, I just have to hold him tight and rock him till he calms down (which can take about 20 minutes) and then I can feed him and he seems ok after that. I just don't know what it could be. possibly teeth because he has ANOTHER one almost through (bottom right).
-
smylie: yeah i go to a mothers group every fortnight, as half of them are back at work. i enjoy going out, just the littles things are adding up and this last stress has pushed me over the limit. i'm going to the doctor on wed hopefully, have to make an appt.
kym: i have an appt with the paed tomorrow. i'm getting those tests done. the reason he didn't want to do anything was she hopefully would grow out of it. but he emphasised the fact that if she was not improving or getting worse, to come back asap. he also wants to find the actual cause and not trial an error all sorts of medicines. the mylanta was something of a comfort, pain relieving thing to help her grow out of it. but she has been too grizzly and vomits randomly that i want the tests done. i was hoping she'd improve on her own, but i'm not letting her be unwell for much longer.
i have good family support but my parents are in brisbane. dp's parents are in sweden (working/living there for 2 years). we are going on a week's holiday in september, during dp's stuvac week. and again over christmas. so that's something i've been looking forward to for a while now. kym, holy crap you live so close to me. i'm in ryde. we should meet up for coffee sometime. maybe later on in the week, after i see the doc for me and el.

Hi girls,
Just a quick one from me today... Harrison has been waking up at 5am most morning too lately... all he wants is to hop into bed with Rob and I.
He has been a bit more grumpy than usual too... but I know it will all pass... we just sing to him and his grumpiness usually disappears.
Well... I have put a vid of him crawling onto his site... he is such a cutie!!!
Catherine - I hope the paed gives you some answers and brings some relief for little El... the poor bubba... she must be miserable with heartburn/reflux... I remember what I was like when I was pregnant... yuck! Harrison doesn't have the heartburn type reflux... just the spitting up... otherwise it doesn't bother him at all... usually he is smiling when he spits up!! lol
-
Catherine, would love to meet up! I am free Wed, Thurs or Fri afternoons this week. 1ish to 3:30ish is often good for us, but we are pretty flexible (and of course this can all change like the wind!!).
Kirsten, I think you are right - I must say I didn't know that about yoghurt, but I think I might shelve it (well, not literally!!) for at least a month or 2. And I also found out today that banana can make them constipated, which I think she's been suffering with today, so might shelve that too. Will stick to our many and varied veges, which all seem to be going great guns!
We have tried parsnip, pump, sweet and reg potato, spinach, carrot, cauli, beetroot and butternut squash. I would have to say Monkey's faves have been parsnip, beetroot and squash - exotic little thing!! Next on the list is peas, corn, beans and broccoli - anyone heard of any probs with these so I can pre-empt?
Lisa, I keep forgetting to congratulate you on the weight loss!
I know many of you will groan when I write this, but I have been one of those who has just shed weight with breastfeeding. I am explaining this, 'cos it's not all its cracked up to be - I had lost all my "baby" weight by about 7wks post-delivery and I have since dropped well below my "normal" weight by about 6kg, which means none of my old clothes fit, but we don't have any money for me to buy any!! And I did feel quite unhealthy and sallow for a while and still feel like I have to constantly explain that I HAVEN'T been trying, so people don't talk about me behind my back! Plus, I am sure that I will just get used to this new shape, start to like it, then put it all back on when I stop breastfeeding! I'll shut up now and stop whinging!!
