Hi all and WELCOME NAOMI!
Naomi, I'm hearin' you with the boob only thing! My litle Monkey (I use an alias for her) only takes her milk from me too.... We have given up on bottles and are trying a cup too.... she has an Avent one (with the white spout) and it took her about 2wks to learn how to get water out of it. Once she got it, we have tried the odd EBM feed from it - best we've ever done is 35ml... not great, but a start! Good luck; there has also been some chat on this thread recently about the Tommy Tippee Nuby cups being really good....
All this talk about feeding from cup / bottle makes me even more nervous about starting work on Saturday!!!! I've got a new job, which is going to encompass 2 feeds.... DH is bringing Monkey to me for a late morning/lunch feed then we are going to hope that EBM/water/food will get her thru the afternoon until I get home around 5pm..... I am kinda looking forward to it, but very nervous and I know I'll miss her like crazy.
Kel, we are a bit all over the place too at the moment (which makes it even harder for me to predict how Sat will go!) I totally sympathise.... I think that with Monkey it might be partly 'cos she is trying to work out a new "routine" for herself and is potentially working twd dropping down to 2 day sleeps etc... Maybe Jemima is going thru this as well??
Generally we do:
BF around 6:30ish then b'fast
BF mid-late morning then lunch
BF mid afternoon
Dinner around 5-5:30, evening routine then BF around 6:30
Usually BF once overnight, around 1am
I have found Monkey has skipped the mid afternoon BF a few times, which has meant a few 6hr gaps in the day..... my boobs seem to cope OK; but they don't cope on the odd occasion she skips the o/n feed and goes 10-11 hrs! She seems pretty happy with 3 meals at the moment, but I am noticing if I offer her little snacks in between, she is very keen for more.....
Oh, and I did notice the change in signature, Kel...... I thought you were a brave woman to even be thinking about it!!!!
And can I also add my love of the HAB!!! I got one on loan from a friend and have found it waaaay more comfy than our Bjorn now that Monkey is over 8kg.
Catherine, so awesome about new formula helping for El!!! And Monkey didn't really like potato either; I think it's too starchy maybe??
Must go, just been reminded by DH that I need some sleep!! Funny how we all were AWOL for a few days then all posting today, hey!
Love to all and sending "good" baby vibes.... ie. lots of smiles, cuddles and sleep!

Hey All,
Thanks for the welcome. and thanks to those who I have been chatting with over messenger....
Well its good to hear others dealing with the same issues as us here...
Maddi is still a boob only girl but we are working on a sipper cup (MagMag) and she has so far managed water out of that. I also got her to take some formula out of an Avent bottle the other day but she got drowsy and as soon as she realised she was going to fall asleep without boob she got mad... but we managed about 60ml before that so its a start.
In terms of food she is a monster our days usually look like this...
BF about 7.30 - 8 when she wakes and then breakfast of custard/fruit
BF about 11 and then a sleep
Wakes about 12.30 -1 and has vegis/fruit for lunch with some water
BF about 3.00 and a sleep (hopefully) - if not a walk and some finger food (Fruit or rusk)
BF about 5 and then dinner of vegies (and we just tried some meat but not too keen yet) and fruit
then BF about 8 and off to sleep
BF at usually about 12, 3 & 6 over night.....
So that is our 'routine' to date but I am starting to worry as I return to full time work in 8 weeks and Maddi is still mainly feeding to sleep so we need to get that sorted in the day time at least before she goes to care... and in between now and then we are travelling to Samoa to visit my hubby's family for two weeks and have a wedding in Swan Hill (4 hours away).... so that should be fun!
Take care the little girl is calling my attention.
Cheers,
Naomi

Routine has just changed - used to be feeding on demand every 2-3 hours with solids at 8, 1 and 6ish but not replacing feeds. Now I'm trying BF on waking, breakfast at 8 (followed by BF if needed), BF at 12 followed by fruit, BF at 4, dinner at 6-6.30 start, bottle (sometimes bottle and breast) at 7.30ish - to be replaced with breat once sleeping is better, as I often need to BF at 8.30-9 to get DS back to sleep.
Well, I'm blogging our sleeping journey as I feel I'm cluttering up the place here with my non-sleeping-through lovie. All comments appreciated! Our day rhythm is going out in the morning and at home playing in the afternoon.
Kym, IKWYM with nights. When DS did his 7 hours (once, a long time ago) I was so pleased he woke to feed as I woke up due to needing to feed! That's why I'm hoping we slowly lengthen our sleeps and not sleep through all at once - though I can cope easily with a 5-hr sleep if I'm allowed that again soon. I make less milk at night anyway because I'm not eating constantly.
-
Hi guys! This is just a quickie and will hopefully benefit some of you who are having trouble getting your babies to sleep. We did what the nurse said and started spreading out Bella's day feeds, and she's been sleeping through ever since!!?? So we've not even had to worry about giving water at night, because we've not had the opportunity! How good is THAT??!!!
So now she's sleeping from between 7 and 8pm until around 5-6am, and as I'm an early bird, this just suits me perfectly!
She drinks more at each feed, and even her solids have increased in quantity too. So here's our routine:
Wake up (6am-ish)
Bottle and rice cereal
One toast finger (wholemeal - we've only just introduced it and she's still not 100% sure of what it is!)
Morning tea (9am-ish)
Bottle
Lunch (12-1pm)
Bottle and vanilla custard with pear and banana (we've just discovered that this is yummy mixed together!)
Afternoon tea 3pm
Bottle
Dinner 6.30pm
Bottle and mixed vegies with chicken, followed by custard
Just before bed time 7-8pm
Teeny bit of bottle.
The times vary and really depend on Isabella. Sometimes we'll go 4 hours between a feed, sometimes it's 3. Either way, it seems to be working.
Have a great week everyone!

that was jemima.... thanks jemima..... i'll tell them......
hehe
WE JOINED THE GYM!! Michelle get out your bunny ears we can be gym buddies (but go to different gyms) (jim)
the kidz club looked "fine" so i bit the bullet and put jemima in and went and did the pump classs and then joined up, i'll have personal training session once a week so that will be great
got yoga tonight, the mum and baby one not the gym one but i'll look into the gym one as well
jemima loved the kidz club, had a sleep and a play and was awesome and when i got there she was having some yogurt... kind of, she was really good they said
michelle - that routine thing looks VERY interesting and jemima 90% of the time is waking once very briefly at night for a feed.... i think i may go to the clinic as well though to ask and get a check up
woohooo i am so pumped about the gym, i am going to buy some summer gym stuff to wear! lets go shopping!
-
Hmmm. Jem sounds a bit cranky this morning! lol
Yay Kel for joining the gym! My bunny ears are ON! Glad to hear Jem liked it too! That makes the entire "ordeal" soooo much easier to handle. Don't know how you do those pump classes though - they look HARD! Is the personal training thing part of your membership? If so, that's excellent! We only get one a month, or on the odd occasion when they're quiet (like last week when they tried to kill me...).
I'm organising swimming lessons for Bella this week. Spent half the weekend looking for a tankini(my skimpy around-the-house bikinis really didn't seem appropriate...) and do you know how hard it is to find one that's meant for someone UNDER age 65??? Unbelievable! Ended up going all the way to DFO and found a really nice pair at Sunburn. Can't wear one pieces because I'm too long in the body and I feel like I've been cut in half, even in a size 12, so they're out I'm afraid. Tankinis are easier to go to the loo as well - don't have to pretty much get undressed to do your business! Ok, you didn't need to know that, but I really like my new togs! They're stripey and halter neck with little ties on either side of the bottoms. Very noice....
-
Michelle, I started 4-hourly feeds and DS is now only waking twice overnight, I feel like a new woman! A new woman with big, hard breasts named Leaky McLeaky, admittedly, but a new woman all the same. I'm quite pleased I 'm not having to go cold turkey from 2-hourly feeds and am going to slowly cut these feeds out. I've already started to cut out the 9pm feed.
Yay for you two fitness chicks! Well done.
-
Wow, it looks like we've all had that problem with stretching feeds out. El just decided to drop a feed. The 5pm bottle is gone. So what we do now is give her afternoon tea around 3-4pm and dinner at 6pm. Last bottle has increased from 100 to 150ml and is at 6.30pm. She's really into food. Still wants store bought but that's ok. Didn't finish all her brekky but I didn't want to force her. It was nice. Fruit muesli jar. Tasted like apple crumble.
DP, being environmentally friendly decided, what's this cord plugged in? Turned it off. And the icecream and baby food melted. Oh well. Now he's learnt his lesson. Don't turn off the freezer in the garage.
Elouise is "crawling" now. She gets up on her hands and knees, nudges knees forward, goes onto tummy, moves hands forward and starts the process again. Inch worm style. She'll work out the crawling rhythm very soon.
Ryn, have you though of having a hand pump by your bed to express for relief and freeze or give to Liebling in a sippy cup?
Mich, your tankini sounds hot! I used to find lots of tankinis in surf shops like ripcurl and also kmart, target and big w. Maybe its just a tad early and they haven't stocked yet. And congrats to Isabella on sleeping through!!!
Oh good luck Kel! I should go to the gym. Hmm will look at the one near me. I see mums come out with prams so that looks good.

what is with backwards children???
Jemima is crawling backwards???? BUT awesomely walking forwards with my help (see her youtube site) BUT backwards if she is in a walker (we dont have one and not going to get one, my house not made for them) she is allowed to use one at Kidzclub and our friends house we decided.
we will get her a push around toy though but not a sit in the ring thing walker not worth it at our place
when i read the routine thing, jemima has basically given herself those kind of feed times probably even the 6am but i dont realise coz we are just in bed and she helps herself..... i should write it down for a day and try and figure it out
what colour are your stripey togs michelle? PLEASE say red and white like where's wally!?
catherine - does elouise watch where she is going when she is crawling? and i know it is not funny but i hope you lauged at your DP for his environmental disaster!?
ryn - what times is pubert waking now?
-
Hi everyone!
Ryn - Yay for only two wakeups at night! I suppose anything's better than what you were doing before hey? It's amazing how stretching out their feeds can make a difference!
Catherine - Yep. It is too early in the "normal" shops for tankinis apparently, even though it was 31 here yesterday!!! And what a clever little girl Elouise is, crawling like an inch worm! How cute! Aren't men hopeless sometimes?? You would think one would check to see what the plug was attached to before turning it off! lol My hubby would do something like that.
Kel - Well isn't Jem a clever girl, even if she is crawling backwards! We're still NOWHERE near even thinking of crawling, so I'd be happy with backwards! As for my togs, they are red....white....and black stripes! So not quite Where's Wally, but almost!
Us - we're still in the land of sleeping through, and life is pretty grand actually! We're having a week off going to the gym this week (creche was booked out - I should've booked MUCH earlier!), but have Bella booked in for next week. The personal trainer who I reckon enjoys seeing me in pain told me she'd be looking to give me another freebie in the next couple of weeks, so I've got another few days of pain ahead. Well I'm off to do more of my website and study - life's sooo busy!! Have a great day everyone!
-
Off to Melbourne thursday morning. So tomorrow is a busy day, packing and cleaning and returning dvds to the store, defrosting and cleaning the fridge, cleaning the bathroom, put a load of washing on and collect the water for the garden... Terry has newspapers to deliver and uni (he might chuck one or both lectures) so I have most of the cleaning to do. Which is ok, but I think he should chuck one lecture to do the papers so he's not up at god knows what hour to finish them.
I see the doc tomorrow to get this awful implant out. It works great for lots of women, just not me. Or maybe its taking a little longer to settle down. Either way its going. Plus, I want to lose 15 kilos, which haven't budged since I was 8 months pregnant. So hormonal contraception, makes me two sizes bigger. Which is not a problem, except I have heaps of clothes I want to wear again. Plus maybe if I lose weight, I might be able to get fit again. Coz hiking up a hill with a pram takes it out of me.
Meh enough babbling, I might not get back on the computer before we go, busy busy. I might be able to post while away, not sure about whether we have access to the net or not. But good luck to everyone and have fun!!!
-
Hi Catherine
Is that the Implanon implant you want out? After all the hassles you've had, I thought I'd tell you what happened to me, if that's what you're talking about. It could be completely unrelated, but you never know....
I had it put in several years ago (before I remarried) and it worked great at first, and although I put on 11kg, I was still in the "normal" weight range for my height, so that wasn't the issue. The issue was my brain! I got really really depressed and down. I just felt "sad" all the time, and like life was just "yuk". DH finally said "Get it out! I want the old Michelle back!". So I did, and that same day, I felt like the cloud I'd been living under had gone, and I've been fine (in fact wonderful!) ever since.
I told the doctor about it and of course they said "Oh no, the implanon wouldn't cause that!", but I knew in myself that something wasn't right and the difference once it was out was unbelievable!
Anyway, I hope you have a wonderful trip and Elouise is a good girl for you! Good luck getting everything done in time too!
-
Implanon is awful for causing depression, I'm sure about 90% of people who have tried it note some sort of unhappiness. It's one thing we always check for at doctor's appointments.
DS is waking a bit more atm, but I have dropped the bottle and it's not hunger, I think he's picking up on my current stress. He did between 10.30 and about 6 without feeding last night (but 2 quick 2-minute rock to sleeps). It may also be co-sleeping. He's having an early nap today, 10.30-12, as my mother is visiting and she'll want him up for her.
I'm going to try him on the walker toys at playgroup next week!
-
I've decided Jemima not getting a walker but is going to be able to use the one at kidz club and the one at my friends house........ but i am going to get her a push a long thing of some description she is so ready for it (see wobbly walking with my help video on her youtube site) i want her to be able to support her weight better so that she can work out how to old on to the bar at swimming lessons, she is not holding the bar she is more holding the side and they gotta hold the bar to get to next level....
i am going to try the 4 hourly thing.................. so starting tomorrow breakfast 7am! then we will see how we go!
-
so much for trying the 4 hourly thing today.
jemima slept all day
she woke at 6am and benji went to work about same time so by 6.30am we were having brekky
she then cried and carried on after a bfeed at 7 until i gave her baby panadol coz i thought i could see another tooth on her top gum.... so she slept from about 7.30ish until i woke her at 8 to go the gym
she latested from 8.30 until 9.15 at the gym before they had to come find me coz she was SO tired and wouldnt sleep for them
so by 9.30 i was home and she was back in bed
then i freaked out and talked to Michelle on MSN at 12.30 thinking 6 hours was a little long between feeds.... she suggested i check her temp
jemima woke when i was checking temp so i bfed her less than 45 mins later she was fast asleep again
i checked temp at 2pm and it was the same then i woke her at 3.30pm or 4pm for another bfeed and her temp was up a little but still normal!
so took her to the doc
she has a viral infection and is teething! i could have figured that out... that there were teeth coming and that she was out of sorts!
she went straght to sleep when we got home from doc at 5.30 (had to wait an hour) then woke up before 8 for another bfeed and fast asleep again!!!!
very weird
hope she is back tomorrow!!
i had a crap bfeeding experience at the doc............ these two little i'm going to say sri lanken boys were waiting with their dad, jemima wanted a feed so i fed her, with a wrap over my shoulder, i do it everywhere it doesnt faze me one bit but then i hear the boys say to eachother:
quick i have to tell you something and it's urgent
then he goes that baby is sucking on his mum
that's gross
you can see her boob
she has her boob out
that's disgusting
etc
and the father SAYS NOTHING!!!! there was perfect opportunity to tell the boys that that is the way that baby gets its food or whatever but no he just let them say/think it!
ho hum
lisa - your baby has more hair than bella and i didnt think that was possible! i saw his updated photos on his site - what a cutie!!!!!!!! first haircut soon? or lovechild look? he looks so cute and like his dad! but not really like a baby?? jemima still seems to look like a baby where as harrison looks like a little boy?
michelle - thanks for your advice today with jemima i reckon she got more sleep because of it, otherwise i may have woken her more and taken to doc earlier and broken all the sleep she got -and not tidied near as much of my house.......... just the basics way overdue!
-
Hee hee! No problem Kel. Hopefully she's back to her old happy self today! How did she sleep last night?
Don't worry about the boys or their father. Some men are just ignorant.
I remember years ago we were visiting relatives and had called into McDonald's for breakfast when Brianna yelled out (for the world to hear) "Mum! Look at that man over there! He has chicken pox!". He had really bad acne actually, and I was sooo embarrassed!
Children are just wonderful!
-
Hi Kel :)
Yep... Harrison certainly has a mop of hair!!! He definitely needs a haircut... but I don't want him to get one... his hair hangs down into his eyes at times... I would love to wait until his 1st birthday to get his hair cut... but by then, he might have very long hair! I just think to myself that it would be so hard to cut his hair now because he doesn't keep still!!! And, if you try to hold him still, he gets most upset.
Hi everyone :)
We're off to Newcastle to look at a house today. This will be Harrison's first real long drive... I am sure he will love it. The older kids are excited to be going away for the weekend.
Nothing much to report here... Just the same old, same old. I am going off my diet for the weekend, as it is too difficult to weigh the food and cart it along with me. My weight to date is at the weight I was pre Noah... so I am sooooo happy with that!!! I have lost just over 18kgs.
Well... we're heading off in a minute... I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend :hello:
-
Hi all!
Hey Kel, I don't even use a wrap! I just whip 'em out! Well, actually, Monkey and I have a good quick system going with minimum exposure when we are in public, but still, I can understand why it made you feel funny.
Well, we have lots of news.... Monkey has her first cold and it's been quite a doozy! She got reeeeaaalllly unsettled and had a shocking night last Sat and then Sunday we understood why when she developed the cold late Sunday afternoon. Needless to say the last several nights have been horrendous for the poor little munchkin, until last night, which fortunately wasn't too bad, as I was on my own for much of it (DH out doing his manly duty for a friends 30th!). I think she's on the end of it.... sort of....
I actually took her to Dr yesterday, partly to just check it was just a virus and we still seem to be struggling with random tummy pains and also as she hasn't gained any significant weight in the past 12 wks..... For those who aren't first-time mums, I'm sure you would have had the sense to wait a little longer, but I was just starting to worry.....
She has only gained 200g in 12 wks and absolutely nothing in the past 6wks. He assures me all is OK and there's nothing wrong with my breastmilk (one of my concerns, as I've lost MORE weight!) and thinks she's just levelling herself out, as she's quite short on the charts.... And it makes sense, as she was a big chubber... she was 95th% for weight and 35th% for height at 4months and now is 60th% for wt and still 35th% for ht at 7 months. So maybe she's just turning into the new, slender version of Monkey...... she's still beautiful in my totally unbiased eyes!
And our other news is I've started working on a Sat and DH is looking after Monkey.... so far it's working with him bringing her to me for a mid morning feed, then he is offering her some EBM which she has a bit of until I get home to finish the feed.... still not taking a whole feed from a bottle/cup, but getting there! Actually, Naomi mentioned they were using the Pigeon Mag Mag stuff, so we've tried that for milk and Monkey is liking it better than the Avent.
DD is just waking from a slightly shorter than I hoped nap!! Love to all....
