Babies Born February 2007 #6

Hi all!

Liebs is almost over the man-flu, but a word of warning: if your OHs suggest you and bub can do the Christmas shopping on a weekday without them, say no. DS was so excited he wouldn't sleep, so interested in flirting he barely fed (although that was quite nice in one way as he has been super-feedy with the manflu) and thus we had to get up at 6 today... no hardship, but I'm used to 7.30 now! Also, carrying the shopping. DS in the carrier and bags in the pushchair... he was tired and grumpy, so had to be carried, but wouldn't sleep.

How are you feeling now, Michelle? And such a yay for Bella sitting up by herself, what a clever little baby!

How did the reunion go, Jayne? I had that idea as a little girl, ran down the platform at the station shouting "Daddy! Daddy!" with my arms held up and he justlet me run straight past him! ok, dead keyboard, bbl.

OK, on the laptop now. Typing using word and the insert symbol function was a bit hard, but how much do I chat? LOL. Um, in my defence for running past my father I hadn't seen him for about 5 months so had fogotten who he was, I was just wanting some random man to give me a hug! No-one did though :(. Clever Claudia for sleeping through, I hope her Daddy's return doesn't mess that up.

Christie, I use sleeping bags with Liebling. You can get them in 1 tog and 2.5 tog. If he's very cold (or the night is) then I have fleece balnkets, sheets and quilts I can use to top him up. He also wears sleepsuits or pyjamas. I love him in PJs, he looks so cute!

Hi Kristy, welcome to you and Ike! Your little man sounds like he's super cute and super clever, he'll fit right in.

Tashie, sleeping is getting better. I'm going to stop feeding him at night now - sadly his cold wakes him up though. He'll cough so much! At least he can self-settle occasionally now. Last night was just awful but that was more to do with the day we had yesterday.

Cate, hope El is feeling better soon. Liebs was off his food with his manflu and just wanted milk but has recovered... he and his clothes were purple last night as he didn't want any help with his pud!

Monkey has just started the whole "wriggle in the cot" thing a few days ago. She doesn't seem to be waking of cold or because she's moved which makes me think maybe she just wriggles once she's woken and then we find her like that when she lets us know she's woken! A few times though she has been falling asleep either on her side or once on her tummy. I haven't tried to move her back for fear of waking!

My understanding is that the general "rule" is that if the babies can roll, they'll be pretty safe, as they are likely to move or roll themselves back if they need to for breathing purposes.

i am maybe too relaxed with jemima but she has been sleeping on her belly since she was newborn. the only time we put her on her back was for night time sleep but as i had a c-section she spent a lot of time just sleeping on my belly so she got used to sleeping on her belly - long story short DEFINATELY when they can lift their head you dont have to worry about them not being able to breath..... of course unless you put the covers over their head or something silly like that.............. jemima though ALSO would only go to sleep if she had something over her head so we used to have to get her to sleep then sneak in and take the blanket off her head!

i have had th worst 2 days in the history of being a mummy!!! the girl just WONT sleep in the daytime... has cried and carried on both yesterday and today before going to sleep really really bad..... and then she gets to sleep her head touches the pillow and she starts screaming again..... not cool but i am thinking "normal" and i have just been mega lucky the last 8 months........... i also will blame the new teeth up the top freaking her out

i have a sleeping bag for her that is made from thin material so she has been in that and a singlet and nappy somenights or a wondersuit other nights, this weather is weird and i think she was too hot last night as she was sweaty when we got her up and i think has sweat rash on her back.... i hope sweat rash on her back!

oh something i found cute and funny this week..... jemima discovered what was between her legs..... and then her boobs..... very cute little look she gave me..........

i just bought a new tv unit to help baby proof my house........ i have a coffee table with VERY sharp corners and VERY poky elephant head and trunk and tusks on it (it is very cool) and i am wondering if i should put it in lounge or in shed..... will jemima learn before she seriously hurts herself to stay away from the sharp bits???? what do you think???

Might be good to transfer Elphie to a new high altitude home. Lol ok I'm goofy now. I think its better to proof for hot and sharp, as bubs don't sense danger. El has hit her head continuously on the underside of our coffee table. Its oval so no corners. When kids are older they learn danger but babies are so curious and learning everything, its hard for them to remember what causes pain.

El was great today no vomits... until this evening but it was partly cloudy so mostly water. She seems to be improving. She had 13 scoops in total but chucked up maybe 2-3 of those. But its ok. Far better than before she was on HAAR formula.

I can't wait to meet you in person Tashie! It is a good idea to let the bugs pass. Terry was going to take El with him to the gym this morning and pop her in the creche but I said no even though she is quite well. I don't want to risk the other kids catching her bug. I wonder (not pointing any fingers girls) if many mums do put their kids in creche when they're barely over bugs? I guess it depends on the bug. Gastro is bad but colds are so damn common so its hard to avoid them.

How's the weather Ryn? Getting colder? My MIL sent me some things from Sweden for our winter. Oh they were not too thick but very warm. Perhaps Ebay have some warm European things you could get.

Good on Monkey for rolling and crawling? its great. El does roll in her sleep, well when she stirs. She prefers her side to sleep, just like her mummy.

Oh crap this lightning and thunder is scary, I hope it doesn't wake my sweetpea.

Liebs is now 17lb 1oz! Yay him! He has put on weight! Still on the 9th centile, but that's fine.

Kel, didn't realise Jem was a tummy sleeper too. Liebs loves the tummy sleep, I didn't realise until he slept tummy-to-tummy with me on my back.

Cate, I love presents! Liebs has the most adoreble jumper from Austria, but it's not that cold yet. He's in a long-sleeved vest and t-shirt most days, I love the layered look.

WIth bugs, if it's a cold then I don't mind taking Liebs to playgroup because colds make babies stronger. Any nasty bug and I'd stay away, even though I will go mad not taking him to playgroup! I don't leave him in creche, or rather he won't let me leave him. After all, I keep thinking I didn't have a baby to put him in creche, but then again I am going back to work in four months so will have to do so then, no hurry just yet!

I have another tummy sleeper here too... he looks so cute with his little bottom up in the air when he sleeps!!! We don't turn him over anymore, because he moves around so much in his sleep, sometimes he just ends up on his back anyway... Harrison also used to sleep a lot on my chest.

Oh Kel, I hope Jemima is better today. Harrison does a similar thing too... I honestly think at times that he hates his cot!!! lol

Me - my nephews have galandular fever the poor litte guys!!! So, I am staying away from there with Harrison... though, DH working with BIL and was at there house yesterday so who knows if he will bring something home with him?

Urgggggggh!!! After almost 14 years, I have discovered the worst thing about being a Mum... until now, I couldn't think of anything.... its head lice!!! My daughter has it, it has been going around her school... and now I have it!!! This is the first time in my life that I have had headlice... I avoided it all through school, and now, at almost 32, I have it for the first time!!! Not happy.

Good morning, I haven't read all the threads yet left my glsses at mums so it gets too hard without them will finish tonight, typing isn't too bad though.

Isaac sleeps on his tummy too. has for months now, i used to roll him over but he just flips onto his tummy again so i don't bother anymore.

the last few mornings we have woken up to him calling outand standing in his cot shaking the rail (its like he saying HELLOOOO I'm AWAKE, COME GET ME NOW), i don't think it will take him long to work out how to climb, he is allready trying to get onto the couch.

Hope everyone gets a bit more sleep and all the sick babies feel a whole lot better.

Wow go Ikey! My brother was a baby Houdini and climbed out of his cot regularly. He even climbed out, crawled across the room and climbed out the window. My parents freaked. And found him in the backyard playing on the swing. He knew what he wanted and how to get it.

Phew! I go away for a few days and look what happens!

Will see if I can do personals later - Bella's on the floor next to me right now, getting into everything as usual so can't chat long.

We put Bella in a sleeping bag (it's only made out of tshirt material) and she's only dressed in a nappy and a tshirt. At least then I know her legs and feet are warm enough, but her arms are still nice and cool - it's quite warm up here at the moment! We don't use sheets or blankets because she only wriggles out. She also rolls over to her tummy as soon as we put her down. I figure that now that she can roll both ways, is almost crawling and has no issues moving her head then there's nothing to worry about. We still have a monitor in her room too because we can't hear her when she wakes up otherwise. She's usually sitting up trying to grab her mobile hanging over the cot when we go in too. She gives us a very cute, innocent look when we catch her!

It looks like my tummy bug might have been that one some of your bubs have. It wasn't pleasant, but funny thing is, noone else in the family got it. My defenses were probably down thanks to my back. I hope your little ones get better soon. Just so you know, I was still feeling a bit yuk yesterday, but no vomits (or anything else!), but today I'm ok. Hopefully it doesn't drag on too long for them.

Bella's currently drowning in snot thanks so some buggy thing she has. Not nice at all. I hate to give medicine, but the poor thing is so stuffy and yukky, I had to do something. She's also a bit off her food today.

Welcome back Kristy! Bella's got a teeny bit of excema, but that's thanks to me passing it on - Bri had a little bit as a bub too. Nothing major though, so I'm not concerned.

Kel, I think the elephant has to go! lol But I'll give you my opinion on Tuesday when I come over! I hope she stops that screaming soon too. Poor bubby and poor mummy!

Oh Lisa! YUK!! I hate headlice! Bri had them all the time when she was in daycare and I got them once and it was just revolting. I get an itchy head just thinking about it! Ewww! What do you use to get rid of them? I used to absolutely drown her hair in hair conditioner, leave it for ten minutes, then comb it out with a lice comb. I'd do the same thing every night for a week, then every few days, then once a week. Whenever I slacked off, they'd be back. YUK YUK YUK!!!

Bella wella is almost crawling! I thought she was AGES away, but she's now getting up on all fours then rocking back and forth. All we need now is forward motion. We also need her to stop face planting. She likes to headbut the floor with her face. Not a smart thing to do....

Thanks for all of the kind wishes about my back and my bug. I'm all better now (well, almost!) and am off to the gym today. Needless to say, I am going to avoid lunges like the plague! I will be taking things easy too, just until I get back into things again. After that, I'm off to pick up the rest of Bri's birthday pressie and yes, we have completely spoiled her as usual, but it is her 10th birthday, so kinda special and after that I'm off to buy some pants to fit my flat bum. I weigh only just under what I was before getting pg, but my hips or bum or something has shrunk, so all of my pants feel like they're falling down. They sag and they just look like crap! Nothing worse than a saggy bum...

Better go now. Bella's off to bed and I have lots of work to do!

It is so great to hear that all our babies are getting cleaver and cleaver every day. I got sad last night though when I thought about how my baby is going to be 8 months old next week. They grow up too fast. I am so tempted to have another one...a girl next time...but will wait till Tobi is about 18months old I think.

I am glad to hear that everyone else has a tummy sleeper. I will stop rolling Tobi over now. Does anyone else let their bubs sleep with Teddies? Tobi uses his as a pillow when he sleeps on his belly. I worry about his neck. How old can kids be when they start using pillows? I bought some sleeping bags off the BB Classifieds too.

Since Tobi has been sick it has kick me into a clean attitude. I am looking at everything he touches in a different way and am waiting for some sun to come out so I can clean his toys. What do you guys do when you are at someones place or daycare etc. and they have toys? Do you let your bubs stick them in their mouths? I realise that Tobi needs to build up his immunity so I have been pretty easy about it all up till now. That and I am going to be strict about the food I have been giving him and throw out anything that has been sitting out or in the fridge too long etc.

Lisa - LOL! I can't imagine how gross that must feel. Do you have to wash EVERYTHING to get in out of bedding and toys etc? That must suck big time. Hope you tackle them soon. And I hope Harrison doesn't get glandular fever.

Kel - Personally I would keep the elephant and just baby proof it as much as you, even if it is just moving it to the edge of the room or something. But that is just wishful thinking on my behalf, I am hoping that we can keep our lounge room set up the way it is. I collect crystals and I am hoping I am not going to have to put them about (they are safe in a cabinet). Although I haven't got a crawling baby yet and I also don't want them broken. He can commando crawl about 5m away, but just stays in his little play zone between the corner lounge, TV and computer. Although we are going to have to baby proof the computer somehow. I am thinking about getting a play pen to go around the computer area.
That is cute that Jemima has discovered her privates. For some stupid reason I thought only boys would play with themselves. I got some good video footage of Tobi playing with himself the other day...ready for his 21st!!

Catherine - That is insane about your brother. How old was he when he did that?

Kristy - Ike is so cute. I am really looking forward to that stage. Make sure you take some photos of it. Tobi will start doing something cute and then stops it before we end up getting photos or video footage.

Kym & Catherine - Rhodes suits me. How does Wednesday suit. Hopefully El and Tobi will be better by then.

My Mum is down at the moment and fingers crossed my DH wont be working tonight and we might be able to go out on a date and get Grandma to babysit. We haven't gone out on our own yet since bub was born. I am dying to go to the movies. I miss going to the movies, it is my favourite thing. Its our anniversary next week, so this might count as our anniversary dinner.

TASHIE _ Funny you mention teddies, I was going to ask if anybody else had given their bubs teddies or comfort toys. Claudia doesn't have a dummy but she has this pooh bear that is attached to a little blanket, it's like a velvety type material & she holds it while she is feeding & rubs it over her face & eventually as she's goign to sleep she puts it on the side of her face & when she is sleeping she cuddles it against her chest. Jessica has a piglet toy, it's called soft n silly piglet & she has been attached to it since she was 4 months old. It has to go EVERYWHERE with us, we've never had to go back & get it because it's always tucked under her arm. She tells me 'piggy' is her best friend. When she cries she asks for piggy & she does things with him like putting him to bed, pushing him around in her toy pram, changing his pretend nappy, etc... I don't care if she has it until she's 32, it's not doing anybody any harm but poor piggy is a bit worse for wear, he gets washed each week but he is starting to get mighty thin in places & my mum had to sew a little hole up the other day in his head, so now piggy has stitches. Piggy is like part of the family, all our photo's almost, piggy is there. LOL. I hope Claudia gets with her pooh bear like Jessica is with Piggy.

RYN _ YEs, Jessica did the whole running to Daddy with her arms outstretched. Was adorable, she gots lots of 'ooooh look at that' from people at the airport. Since Alan's been home, the house is in disarray. I had the house running like clockwork & clean like a show home. My god it's like a bomb's gone off & the kids have gone nuts. I agree with you, if Claudia has a snotty nose & a bit of a sniffle, I still go places, but when you 'know' it's something more, I keep her away.

IMPATIENT _ Glad to hear that you're on the mend & back at the gym. LOL @ Bella getting into everything. OOooh what are you getting Bri for her birthday? I LOVE birthdays & I go mad on them too!

LISA _ Eeewww on the lice. You poor thing, that musn't be nice. My niece got a bout of lice when she was at daycare for about 3 months running & was offended whenever we were doing something if I asked if she had lice because I didn't want to get it! Apparently now parents don't keep their children home when their kids have it, when I was at school you weren't allowed to go to school until you had been treated, but now parents just keep on sending their kids. I didn't want Jessica getting it. Also, my gf just had to shave her 11 month old boy's head because he got it from his cousins. How awful!

ME _ Well our house is going mad! Claudia has gone back to her '30 minute sleep special' during the day, Jessica has become a royal brat & DH is driving me insane! It's so noisy having a man about the house! LOL. It's good having him home, but my god, it's been stressful. I've had the girls in a great routine & everything has run like clockwork & now it's all turned upside-down! Also, we have been eating so well & Alan was desperate for fish n chips last night so now I feel all grotty that I ate badly. I have loads of weight to lose & I've lost 4.5kg in the 2 weeks he's been gone & now I feel terrible for eating the fish n chips last night. Steak & veg tonight. I'm in charge! LOL. On a brighter note though, I"m going to get Jessica another rabbit, we have a beautiful rabbit - Chocky Boy who we've just found out is actually a Chockette. Long story, but we tried to get her pregnant through the breeder we got him/her from, but she won't let them man in & now she is having a phantom pregnancy, weird! Poor thing has issues, but I've decided to start breeding them, so I need a boy & a girl. I"m starting with the boy, just need to get another hutch. I want to do it properly & be reputable.

I definitely keep my kids home... My eldest DS has rarely had them... never when we lived in Sydney... but my daughter gets them every now and then... I usually treat it the same was as you do Michelle, and I also put rosemary and lavender oils into the conditioner to keep them at bay... that usually works a treat. I used to work in a support unit within a local school here, and I never got head lice before now!!! I am just frustrated at getting them after all these years!! lol and OMG, aren't they itchy? I never realised! wow.

Well, it is totally bucketing down rain here... DH didn't work today because of the weather, so we did our shopping together... it was a nice day.
I bought Harrison the cutest pair of Dunlop Volley shoes... they're black and so spunky.
I am trying to find a small pair of thong or sandal type shoes for Harrison... I have checked out Traget, Big W, Best and Less, Payless shoes and Williams shoes... I am gonna check eBay soon, has anyone else seen them around for boys? I have seen plenty of girls ones, just no boys :(

Lisa, yes ebay have some as I was looking for traditional sandals for Ellie. Bummer about lice, in your usual conditioner add some of those oils so you're keeping them away all the time. These days lice are resistant to many chemicals so the conditioner method works the best. I got them once from the kids I'd babysit (their mum wasn't the cleanest either) and mum used kp-24, then again it was 8 years ago. Lice can't live without feeding on blood. So just wash your bedlinen as normal, don't bother disinfecting them, its not necessary.

My brother was about 18 months old, and from then it never stopped. As I got older, we became partners. He'd climb up the vertical bars of pool fences and lift up the saftey lock. And I'd hold the gate open for the both of us. Meanwhile our mum is watching the entire time. My mum also used to lock the sweeties in the pantry with a padlock. But Sam was smart. He took the hinges off the door with a butter knife, with me holding the door. Mum figured it out weeks later when the door was a little loose.

Elllie hasn't thrown up today, only small spitup dribbles. And she had half a jar of fruit gel (I think she just didn't like this flavour) and tonight she had a little farex. She hasn't eaten farex in months. I usually just use it to thicken up runny food from jars. She didn't have much but she did have some. Which is good as she can have a bit several times a day and maybe she'll increase her appetite.

Oh Jayne, my Dad used to stuff things up coming home. Perhaps you could write the routine up and put it on the fridge so Alan can see and possibly either help you or don't disrupt it.

Oh gee Mich, I must have missed you saying you were sick. Glad you're on the mend and back at the gym. I've just started going but taken a week off to get over my tummy bug and also to let my tummy stop hurting from the godawful crunches, leg lifts and the like from pilates.

Tashie, wednesday sounds great! I'll probably call you before then to confirm. Kym coming too? Rhodes sounds great. Coffee shop!!! I hardly ever go to coffee shops. Oh and the teddy pillow, my cousin has her Mr Bear since she was a few months old. She cuddles him and uses him as a pillow. My aunt and uncle were never worried as she would roll and wriggle heaps in her sleep.

Elouise fell asleep as I burped her tonight so I put her to bed. Her safeTsleep is drying from being washed after she spewed on it, so I've used a pillow, and two rolled towels around her to try and keep her from rolling onto her tummy. The reason I don't like her on her tummy is that she decides to start playing instead of sleeping. She woke at 5am playing noisily. I got up 3 times to resettle her. But she did sleep till nearly 8am.

Man I'm tired. I want to rearrange the lounge and the bedroom. I just get bored with the layout after a while. I would have done the lounge tonight but I'm afraid of waking Ellie with furniture moving. Not moving much, but the bedroom is a big job. Will need Terry's help. I'll do the lounge on sunday. Going out tomorrow. 'Night 'night ladies, xxxxx

OMG...Tobi is eating. No crying, no tantrums and even opens his mouth ready for the next mouthful. He isn't eating much, cause I guess his belly shrunk when he was sick, but at least he wants to again. Hip Hip Hoary.
On another good note. Tobi is on the move. He isn't officially crawling with his but up in the air, but nothing is safe any more. He can drag himself around pretty quickly now and managed to get into the rest of his breaky without me realising it and I had it all over the carpet and he was playing with it!
I love garage sales. I got heaps of clothes on the weekend for next to nothing. Tobi now is set for size 0 and 1. I got some toys and books too. All for about $24. I haven't found any awesome toys yet though. I am not really sure what I want, but I know it needs to still have some life left in it. Some of our neighbours said that they have finished having kids, so I am going to raid their places for good toys.
My DH is away at the moment and there isn't anything on TV tonight so I am bored. I could clean the house, but that is a day time activity (why? It just seems that it should be!).
Anyway, I hope you are all well and everyone is back to feeling healthy and happy again.

what on earth does everyone do at home all day with baby?? i had a "lazy" day and stayed home all day and honestly by 3pm I was feeding jemima 'dinner' coz we were both bored of everything else.... then we had a nap and then we played some more and then we read some books and then we had more dinner (kinda) and then a bath and then coz we were all out of whack she helped us cook dinner.....

am going to trial the elephants in a corner so there will be only 1 or 2 elephants showing so maybe it will work.... have just created a great little jemima area in the lounge room... but of course since the remote control is not in it she wont be interested..... i WONT let her have the remotes or my keys or my purse

she has stopped the full on screaming so i am going with the weather and teeth for last weeks behaviour...

Kel, how big are the elephants? Perhaps you could get a cabinet to display them? Or maybe get Benji to put up a high shelf for them?

Ellie's still getting over the bug. Projectile vomit of milk, pears and farex all over herself today. Not fun. But I hope she's improving. My cold went away before it started thank god.

Hi everyone!

Jayne - We've bought Bri a Nintendo DS because she's been asking for it for over a year now, and seeing as 10 is a special birthday, we decided to get it to her. We'll definitely limit her time on it though, as we believe kids should be outside on a nice day, and not inside playing computer games! We've also bought her some clothes and stuff and of course a game (nintendogz - chihaua (however u spell it)). Have things settled down at your place?

Lisa - Have you found Harrison some sandally type shoes yet? I'll keep an eye out when I'm shopping on Thursday.

Catherine - Crunches don't hurt me anymore, although when one of the personal trainers gets to me, I end up in pain for about three days after! lol I am such a wuss! I hope Ellie gets over that bug soon! Poor little thing!

Tash - Glad Tobi's eating again, even if it is little bits! He'll be wolfing it down in no time!

Kel - Good idea about the elephants. We have sharp coffee table corners and have to watch Bella really closely. We regularly find her under the coffee table, trying to sit up, which she can do - just.

Me - Bella and I have a game we like to play. We sit on the floor facing each other, then we roll a ball to each other. Sometimes she rolls it, and sometimes she "throws" it. She loves playing this game and has great coordination - unlike Bri and myself! lol

My friend's bub has chicken pox poor thing. It seems like a really mild case, but I don't want Bella getting it so we're not getting too close! If Bella does have it, then we'll know in a few days. Bella and her friend haven't spent much time together over the last couple of weeks, so hopefully that means we're safe! ARGH! So no visiting Kel and Jemima today. :(

I had a fantastic weekend! I worked at a wealth creation seminar all weekend, learning lots of stuff and hanging out with some wonderful and very successful people (in hope their success would rub off onto me!). I took a couple of photos which I've posted on my other blog (just click on the link below to Bella's blog, click on View my complete profile on the right (under About me), then click on My Web Page on the left near the top. When you get to my website, click on the Blog link and you're in! Woo hoo! I also sort of got myself a "job" helping to support students who signed up for one of the courses, teaching them how to set up their websites and stuff, so I am really excited about that.
