Prama I can sympathise with you. Being a new mum is hard. Nothing can prepare you for it. Sounds like you have a great supporting DH. Dont beat yourself up over the BF. Things do get better apparently.....

Bun - Jasper has got the same problem; wind. Very frustrating. He can go alright for a day or so, and then he'll have a day that's nothing but crying and throwing up his feed because he tries so hard to get the wind out. So far whatever I try to do; rocking, massaging, patting his bottom, holding him in different positions hasn't helped. Did they show you any other techniques in hospi? Last night we were up from about 12 till 4 with wind and throwing up; the washing machine is doing overtime...
Prama - congratulations on the arrival of your little one. The breastfeeding does get easier. They let me spent an extra day in hospital to get some more help with attaching and massaging lumps out of very sore engorged breasts, and that was worth it; it is so much easier now so hang in there it will get better!!
Hi Prama - glad you found the group. Big congratulations on the arrival of your little one. I was reading in the other thread of the problems you have faced already. Its just so hard isn't it. Nothing could have prepared us for all for this !! Hope things are getting a little easier. Like Jen said it apparently gets easier - that's what everyone keeps saying.
BTW - just posted Marie (Mummyof2tobe) birth notice !!!
Went to child health centre today - DS has put on just over 300gms since coming home. Makes me feel quite relieved and all those lost hours of sleep rocking, patting, feeding, burbing etc etc are paying off. Nurse thinks he might be getting more than his fair share of milk which makes him a bit hiccuppy and whine when he gets put down so am going to trial just offering him one breast per feed and see how that goes - unless he is ravenous of course !
Hope we are all well. Can't believe Luke is 16 days old aready. I remember when I didn't think we could make it to the end of the first week.
Hi Everyone!!
Just popping in quickly! I hope you dont mind if I tag along in this group now!!
DS was born on the 20th Feb (6 days early), we have called him Noah. We are breastfeeding, although not very successfully yet, but I feel that we are getting there. Nips are a bit cracked and sore from his original poor latchment so its still a bit painful, but not as bad as what it was!!
We have been home since Thursday, I only stayed overnight as I had a horrible time when DD was born and was in for 5 nights, I hated it and couldnt bare to go through all that again. My mum is staying with us for another 3 weeks so she will be a great help! The Childcare nurse will be back on Monday to weigh Noah, so hopefully he has put on the weight that he lost in the hospital, he was born 4090g and we left when he was 3880g..so fingers crossed the bf is working!!!
I am hearing you all on the lack of sleep and not to keen yet to venture out of the house..lol...
My poor girl has not slept for more than 20 minutes today. We had visitors over with 2 loud kids all afternoon and evening. Now she is SO tired we cannot get her off to sleep. If it continues I am going to ring the maternal health line to see what they suggest. I am worried she isnt sleeping enough.
minky, how did i miss you having a baby?????!!!!!!
im so sorry..
sorry, i havent been myself the last few days. (you can see our belly buddies post)
p.s. does anyone use Lux Soap Flaxes to wash bub's clothes. They seem to come out dull and the whites look like they are old clothes. Does anyone have this problem?
Sorry girls, I have been too busy worrying about my little guy. The woman I was shairing the hospital room with had a cold, which she gave to DS and I. The poor little fella was only around 1 1/2 weeks old at the time we caught it. All is good now.
I have just tried Dr Brown's bottles. They have been great, no vomiting or choking when feeding. They are a bit hard to clean, but really worth the effort. Google it and take a look.
Sorry guys, I will do personals later when I have time.
Take care
well since i had my bub in Feb i better join in here 2! lol joined the jan baby buddies cuz i know everyone in there but will come in here too so hello everyone!
Hi girls,
Have a couple of questions:
What detergent do you use to wash bub's clothes? we used Lux Soap Flakes but it's making his clothes very dull.
what's teh best way to loose your tummy?
Prama - looking forward to joining you this week (i'm now 2 days over) i use OMO Sensitive. Initially i did an extra rinse and no fabric conditioner with DD for the first few months as my DH & I both have eczema so we were being careful with her skin too. Hanging the clothes out in the sunshine has a brightening and sanitising effect too.
Carley - i'm just by the Elgin pub so we're only a 5 mins walk apart! it'd be great to meet up with you when my bubba decides to join us (i'm 40+2 days now)
Hi everyone else!
im trying new washing powders ect atm too! i was using spree but it wasnt getting stuff very clean, so i bought drive cuz it was half price lol, and that seems to be working well! and using fluffy fabric softener.... and if something is badly stained, soak it it nappysan. when i used to live with mum we used biozet i think its called? bio something lol, and yer its REALLY good, expensive though but arent they all
Hi ladies!
Just popping in to say hi! Hope to join you soon - I am 5 days overdue and really looking forward to this birth and meeting our bub!
I know how you feel Roquen. I officially went 10 days over with DD. Hopefully your baby would like to join us very soon.
Roquen, the countdown is on now !!!!!:D:D:D
Prama, we use Amolin Liquid for bubs clothes, it comes in a blue bottle...I havent had any dramas with it. We used it for DD and the smell of the clean clothes brings back so many memories!!! Dont worry about missing my birth announcement...lol..I have been following your bf issues in the other thread, I hope you are doing okay today! I have no advice on losing the belly, so will be watching for replies! :)
2 please, so sorry to hear that you and bub both had a cold, it must have been very frustrating for you!
Jenjams, how did you go with your little girl? Did she end up getting to sleep last night??
Carley, awww sorry to hear about Lysanders upset belly! That must have been nice to pop over to your mums for her help! I agree with you about DH's confidence with the 2nd baby, my DH is a totally different person with DS as to what he was with DD, its great!! Bummer too that you werent able to find the sizes you wanted when you went shopping! I hate that...hopefully you'll find what you were after soon!!
Everything is okay here, DS is feeding roughly every 3 hours, it was great last night as I actually had some sleep and I wasnt waking up every hour wondering why he hadnt woken for a feed..lol.. today its been the same, 3 hourly. He seems a lot brighter too at the moment, his skin is less red and blotchy and he is looking around a lot more too. He was a smidge jaundicey on Thursday when the health nurse was here, so hopefully she sees an improvement in him! Fingers crossed!!
Hope you are all enjoying your weekend!!
Hi guys,
prama - how are you going? I would like to know any secrets for losing the belly too - I really don't like this flab I have acquired! I am now only 4kg heavier than before I was pg, but it is all around the middle and I don't like it one bit - none of my pants fit!
jen - are you managing to get anymore sleep?
roquen & roya - I hope you can join us soon!
I am not sure what laundry powder to use either. We generally just get whatever is on special!
jess - welcome! I used to pop into your BB thread to see how you were all going. I felt so sorry for you and jen having to wait so long to meet your bubs!
carley - so sorry you and bub had a cold. That is the last thing you need with a new baby! Hope you are all better now.
jacki - woo hoo on DS's weigth gain!
Must go, bubs is crying!
Well ladies, it looks like I will be joining you in here at the end of the week once I am discharged from hospital. Am having my c section tomorrow arvo  and all going well, will be out on Friday!
Not looking forward to the sleep thing and my body knows it! Seems I have done nothing but sleep all weekend. Tonight is my last unbroken night of sleep for many months. Knowing what is coming takes some of the fun out of the whole baby thing, but even so, I can't wait to meet my little guy!
Will see you all next weekend!
Goodluck for tommorrow Kirsten!!!!! :) :)
Thanks Minky. :D
Hi Ladies
sorry been missing in action lately. Computer pooped itself and god only knows where the time goes these days.
Kirsten - Great News - good luck tomorrow
Minky - CONGRATULATIONS on the arrival of Noah!!!
Prama - not sure on how to get rid of the tummy flab ! Mine is showing no signs of disappearing in a hurry.
I am using OMO Sensative laundry powder
Jen - hope you little one is sleeping a bit better today. I know what you mean about visitors. We had a house full today and they all want to hold him and talk to him and laugh etc etc - all very loud and too stimulating.
Roquen/Roya - stop dragging your feet and join us !! Hope you little ones come soon.
Luke is doing OK. He is not really in any kind of routine as far as feeding goes. Sometimes 2 hours between feeds and sometimes 4 - 4.5 hours - makes it a little hard to plan anything or know when the best time for me to sleep is. Is anyone else finding this that feeding is really random ??
I'm going to the doctors tomorrow morning. Looks like I have a blocked milk duct that I just can't seem to shift. I have no idea what Dr can do about it but it has been there for quite a number of days now so have to do something before it turns into something a bit more nasty. Its pretty sore especially when I put Luke over my shoulder to burp him - it seems to be in exactly the same spot as where it kicks !!
Sorry to anyone I have forgotton - feeling a little overwhelmed and fragile at the moment.
xx to all
Jacki
Jacki - bub is on the bottle at the moment (big, sad issues with BF) and he's supposed to be feeding every 4 hrs, but yesterday he got hungry in 2 hrs. So I dont know either. Plus he's not drinking the recommended amount, so we're worried.. He;s been having weight issues. We see the ECC nurse tomorrow.. hope she can help.
I really dont like the way my tummy looks.. One suggestion given to me to go walking and suck your tummy in, like belly button to your back.
I wish I had the time to do it, Im still adjusting to everything...
Im still feeling very fragile and upset too.
Ive had so much issues with BFing...
I started a thread here.. https://www.bellybelly.com.au/forums...ad.php?t=61203
Just a quick one as I can hear DD stirring. How are people going with getting the wind up? I am having trouble with Amber's wind. I put her over the shoulder and she burps only sometimes. I have her in my lap and she will occassionally burp or spew. I know it is affecting her settle because she screws her face up and gets all fidgety . Anybody got any tips?
Oh and with the bonding, someone told me the other day that when we meet new people we take awhile to bond with them, it doesnt happen straight away. It is the same with babies. We cannot be expeted to bond with them straight away. It happens over time.
Jenjams - have the same wind problem with Jasper and I haven't found anything that is foolproof yet. At the moment trying burping him several times during a feed; him sitting upright on my lap (don't trust the spews over my shoulder...). This seems to pace him a little bit too; he gets a bit greedy at times and gulps it down... Will let you know how it'll work out.
Prama - So hard to know whether they drink enough; makes you worry, doesn't it? Hopefully it is just due to the change to the bottle and he'll pick up soon!
Jacki - Have you tried massaging the blocked duct while you are feeding?
Minky - Congratulations on the arrival of Noah!
Carley - It must be so difficult to see your little one with a cold..
Roquen - Hopefully you'll get to join us here very soon!
Has anyone heard from Kirsten yet?
Everything seems to be going a bit better here. Jasper is feeding well and went a whole day without throwing up yesterday. Although last night he was unsettled due to wind; spent 3 hours trying to get it out, but not much succes. Lucky DP got him back to sleep at 6.30. What works for Jasper when he is over tired is to put him in his bassinet in a quiet, dark/dimly lit room and let him cry for a little while. If he doesn't settle within a few minutes I go back in and sit next to him with my hand on his tummy until he relaxes and stops crying and then walk out again. I keep repeating this until he's asleep. Seems to work for him...
By the way, I went to the wedding on the weekend, but didn't last long. The church service was fine, but the reception was too full on. I went home pretty soon! Too much stimulation for the little one to sleep, so he was unsettled and I couldn't relax. Ah well, at least we tried...
Hear you on the feeling overwhelmed and fragile; so much to learn and so much wondering whether you do the right thing... Hopefully we'll all get more confident soon.
esme & jen - we have trouble with wind too because the little piggy gulps her milk down too fast! It's really hard when you can see that is the problem but nothing works to help them!
jen - that's a very good point re bonding - I guess we can't expect it to happen straight away.
esme - good on you for braving the wedding for a bit. Not an easy task with a newborn!
prama - I hope you are doing ok. We walk our dog each night and I try to suck in my tummy while we are walking, but it feels like all my muscles are missing!
I would love to get rid of this belly and fit into some of my old clothes, or else I will have to go shopping soon for new ones! I can't even fit into a single pair of jeans at the moment.
jacki - I hear you on how quickly time seems to pass! The day is over before I know it! Cat is not in any kind of routine yet either, she could go 2 hours between feeds or 4.5 as well. I suppose they like to keep us guessing!
kirsten - good luck and looking forward to seeing you back here soon! I hope it all goes well, and I am glad you managed to get lots of sleep over the weekend!!
We had a horrible night last night. Catherine just wouldn't stop crying and I have no idea why. Usually I know if she is hungry or if it is wind, but last night she cried for 2 hours (full-on crying) and I still don't know what the problem was. Usually if I just feed her, even if she isn't due for a feed, she will shut up, but even that didn't work. Finally I got her off to sleep and then she was pretty good for the rest of the night. It would be nice if they could tell us what the problem is, hey!
Bun- Have you tried a dummy? Amber has found one particular dummy she will take when we put her to bed. It has worked last night and today.
I dont think I have bonded with my daughter fully yet either. I only met her 12 days ago and we are still working each other out. I wouldnt give her back but the process takes time. My belly has gone down a bit but the wobbly stretched skin bit looks yuck right now!
Hey you remember when we were in the TTCAML thread all that time ago.... Now we have daughters. WOW!
Amber woke had a feed, couldnt get the wind up but she is back in bed now touch wood for a couple of hours.
Esme- let me know how the burping goes. If I could get a burp or 2 up per feed it would make life easier. You did well to get to the wedding. I am too scared to go too far with Amber. So far we have tried the stroller twice which she didnt like and the car once which she sort of liked. I have a baby bjorn which I will try next.
Prama- I understand you feeling fragile. When I came home from hospital it was before my milk came in and I was still feeling really poor from the labour and then the hormones took over. A good cry can help you though. Plus dont feel bad over the formula. You do what is best for you and your baby.
Kirsten- Hopefully the c section is under way for you.
I better go check on my girl.
esme - that works for me settling jaylen too, and in the daytime i have his bouncer facing the wall or the opposite way i am cuz he doesnt go to sleep if he can see me lol, i usually leave the room until he goes to sleep...
bun - oh i know i only fit into the clothes i bought when i was preg, none of my old ones ! :( cant wait to buy some new ones, hate my body at the moment! belly's yuck as..
esme - thanks. bub has been throwing up today.... then he gets hungry and wants a feed in 2 hrs. He's still not drinking the recommended 70mls. Most often he gets to abt50-60, and this is after 1.5hrs of feeding...
I suppose we'll understand his needs better soon..
bun - we've been trying to go for a walk, but by the time we feed him etc. it gets too late. We'll try today. I'm still wearing my mat jeans and baggy tops. We went to baby galore to get a bottle warmer and then I went to ask the lady about grobags. She looked at me and said, you have a while yet till your baby's due! Arrrggghh!!!! She then apologised when I said I just had the baby. Not good for my self-esteem. And all the hideous stretch marks!
jenjams - thanks hun.. been having lots of cries. I'm just angry no one really prepares you for all the emotional roller coaster, not really bonding with bub.
kirsten - good luck.
have to run, bub is crying for no reason now..
also found he had nappy rash today. ..:(
Kirsten & John Would like to announce the safe arrival of
Benjamin David, by C Section. At 2:33pm on Monday February 25, Weighing 3.6kg.
Mum and Baby are doing great!
Posted on behalf of Kirsten who is currently enjoying hospital hospitality.
John (hubby)
Hi Everyone,
Thought it was about time I got my act together and posted. I have been keeping up but haven't found the time to reply until now.
We seem to be doing well, Sophie is quite a settled bub -- has a couple of good sleeps during the day and is sleeping well at night. Have had a few unsettled nights with wind - but think that was due to overfeeding?? Who knows.
Our boys who were really good last week have turned into right little monsters not doing as they are told etc etc --My DH goes back to work next week so I hope it settles down soon.
I am finding that yes there is no routine -- but my others weren't predictable until about 6-8 weeks, I forgot how much boobs leak and are uncomfortable and how precious a good nights sleep is.
Sorry for the lack of personals have to get back into the swing of things.
Hope everyone gets some sleep
Talk Soon
Sue:)
Yaay Kirsten!! congrats!!!!
Prama - have you tried to work out how much he drinks daily? Since you are maybe feeding more often than assumed on the formula tin, he could well be getting the recommended daily quantity, but then smaller quantities more often. If you get what I mean? (sleep deprivation doesn't make my explanations any clearer...) And maybe, if he vomits a lot, he might be a tad sensitive to cows milk, as far as I know there is a goats milk/low lactose formula on the market (not sure if its suitable for newborn), maybe that could be an alternative?
Kirsten and hubby - congratulations on the safe arrival of Benjamin David!
Jasper had a couple of reasonably settled nights, so I have a feeling that the burping could be paying off... Either that, or the fact that I have cut milk products out of my diet for now. I will introduce milk products again next week at some stage to see whether that has a negative effect on his tummy.
We had some friends over last night and Jasper got overstimulated; it took over an hour of hysterical crying before he settled for a much needed sleep; he was so tired he couldn't even drink, the poor thing. It is so hard to listen to him crying so hard and knowing that there is not much you can do...
Esme - he's ok today. I think what happened what was that we accidently put on a nipple that said no.2 and DS must have drunk too quick.
I tried with the nipple shield today, and he seemed to feed ok but starting chomping at the end. Only 5 mins each side. It hurt, but not so much to make me cry. Hopefully it will get better and I can bf at every feed.
Sorry Jasper had bad night.. The nurse at the hospital told us not to pass bub to guests cos they can unsettle him. It's hard when everyone wants to fuss over him and it's hard to tell them no, you cant hold him.
kirsten - congrats on the safe arrival of your little boy! Welcome to the world little Benjamin!
Hi Sueby!
jen - definitely try the baby bjorn. Catherine loves hers and is not too fond of her pram yet. I think they like to be close to us when they are this young, and I find it puts her to sleep which is also a great help! We tried a dummy a few times and she finally took it from her daddy the other night, but she will only take it if she is not too worked up, and after a while will spit it out and start screaming which kind of defeats the purpose! We will keep trying though. It is so amazing that we both have daughters now - it is such a miracle and one that I thought would never happen. It is just incredible. Sometimes I just sit and stare at her and think how lucky we are.
jess - I am definitely going to need to do some clothes shopping! And no more bikinis for me...
prama - what a stupid woman at the baby shop. Someone working there of all people should know that the baby belly takes a while to go down! Plus, a new mother is very fragile and you don't need stupid people making stupid comments! We are all in the same position, there is just no way a belly that grows that big during pregnancy can bounce back straight away. I was sorting through some photos yesterday and realised that my 20 week belly was smaller than my belly is now! Good on you for managing to breastfeed again, you are trying so hard, I really admire you!
Today is I think the first day that we don't have any visitors! It's just me and Catherine. She has been pretty good so far and had a nice long bath which she loves. The biggest trouble I have is getting stuff done as she is a very cuddly baby and loves to be held. Luckily she hasn't been overstimulated by visitors - she loves cuddles so much that she just goes to sleep when visitors come and hold her and I don't think she even notices how many people are here or whether she knows them or not - as long as she is getting a cuddle she is happy!
hi girls, whoa, talk about being busy huh??
bry had his snip yesterday and god was he upset. he's ok today tho. thank god.
just thot i'd post my family montage i did. has all the kiddos in it, even bry.
hope u like
Our family! .
Prama, forget what that woman said. We take nine months to have a baby, they say it takes another nine months to get ur figure back. Poo to her hey? <hugs>
Congratulations Kirsten!!!!!!!!!!! ::dance:
wow, everyone has picked such beautiful names for their bubs!
Who's posted pics yet? I wanna have a squiz heheeh. I love seeing bubbas.
I hope everyone is settling in well with their little ones.
Prama, I'm sorry ur having problems. is bubba chomping once he is partially asleep? Bry does that when he's almost asleep and I have to stroke his cheek to remind him to suck properly...sometimes I have even had to use a damp cool face washer to wake him to finish feeding properly...
I admire you for holding on and trying so hard honey. It's not easy when there are problems. I hope things settle down for u soon honey *hugs*
Hey everyone, just introducing myself to the thread!
I have been vaguely following so far, but look forward to getting to know all of you and your babes a bit better!
Alexander was born Saturday 23/02, and we came home yesterday.
So far he is an absolute gem - i am enjoying it while it lasts!
My milk came in within 36 hours, so he is feeding brilliantly, if not for the fact he has his night and day a bit mixed up! But i'm sure we'll get him round the right way eventually.
I'll try and catch up on what I've missed in here, but congratulations to all of you and your new bubbas!
General question - I used to have a "quick reply" option at the bottom of each thread and now dont have that option and have to press "reply to thread" which takes me to a new screen. Has everyone elses set up changed or just mine ???
Kirsten - big congratulations to you and DH on the arrival of Benjamin David (another lovely name).
Hi to everyone else. Can't believe how little time there is to get on line. I used to be on here all the time. Doesn't help that our computer pooped itself and we are currently using an old one which is soooooooo slow !
How many of us are using dummies. i fully intend on using one (I had one until I was 5 and started school andMum made me give it up !!) but not too sure if I should introduce it at this stage. Are we supposed to wait 6 weeks especially if exclusively breastfeeeding.
Another question - for those who haven't got supply problems with breastfeeding are any of you expressing and storing milk for the occasional bottle feed. I have no idea when best time to express is and when to introduce a bottle. Some say don't introduce too early but others say don't leave too late as they may never take bottle.
God its just so confusing !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Went to ultrasound place yesterday for a scan on the lump in my breast. They put a needle in there to send some cells off to pathology but Dr doesn't think a problem - more than likely a cyst/abcess as contained pus (sorry TMI !). Will find out on thursday. In the meantime taking antibiotics. So all that rubbing and massaging probably wasn't the best thing for it seing as it wasn't a blocked duct.
With the help of my mum we are going to brave the shops after DS next feed. Wish me luck. Can't wait to able to drive again. Should be able to by this time next week !
Hope you are all coping as best you can and life is getting a little easier. Sorry for long post.
xx Jacki
Jacki i am expressing a little bit but that's because i have too much milk already and it's uncomfortable if i don't! I know that won't help the 'too much' problem but i'm in utter agony otherwise, and he doesn't always want a 'top up' which is when he takes the second side.
When i try to introduce the bottle, i'm going to try and do it as a starter feed on the bottle and let him finish on the breast... or something like that... Don't know how it will go but it's the best i cam up with.
As for the dummies - i was going to but i'm sort of going to wait and play it out. I think dummies may have the same issue with a bottle - if you wait too long they may not take... who knows! Alex likes to suck on his hand a lot for comfort (he's managed to coordinate his thumb in there once or twice, lol) so i'm not going to offer the dummy for a while...! But i do know i had one pretty much from birth!
Oh & good luck with your trip to the shops!
The quick reply button has gone :(
I want mine back too.
I have pictures of my little girl... Well not so little. She has had a growth spurt and has outgrown huggies newborns... So we are onto the Aldi nappies now. They are heaps cheaper from what I hear, just as good.
Anyway I have pics on my facebook page. I am about to do another ticker and will put one there.
I am exclusively breastfeeding Amber at the moment. I am not expressing at the moment. Every now and then we have given her a formula bottle but I am trying to persevere with the breastfeeding. We go to the Maternal health nurse tomorrow so will see how the weight is going.
My girl slept from 1030 til 5 last night and the night before. She then has a feed and goes back to sleep til about 9. The health nurse says it is ok for her to do that if she is putting on good weight. But then I kind of feel bad thinking she is missing out on a feed. Plus when she wakes after such a long sleep, my bb's are so full and firm, I feel like an amazonian woman!
Amber has half taken to a dummy in the last couple of days and we try and use it to settle her. During the day, it takes awhile for her to get to sleep. We put her down in her bassinette and she sleeps for 10 minutes then wakes up. So we have a learning curve to go.
Welcome Ash. Sounds like you had a great birth and a great start to your son's life. My milk didnt come in until after we got home from hospital. They did send me home from hospital a day early though.
Jacki- good luck with the outing. We went on our second outing today, just to the shops. Amber loves the baby bjorn and loves the car. She will go to sleep in a moving car.
Prama- I hope today is a good day for you and your little one.
Ash, it takes a few weeks for ur milk supply to settle in. Mine has now settled and I am not uncomfortable anymore. I did worry that that meant I was not making enough, but Bry is settling fine and sleeping well and is gainging weight so he is getting enough. Also feeds are taking less time as he gets the majority of the milk quickly so it used to take me 45 mins to feed him, it's now taking me 20-30 and he generally only needs one side unless he's unsettled or starving. I was even able to feed him last feed and express 80mls. Considering I don't express well, I think that's good.
It should all settle down soon. I hope the pain lessens for u.....
