Hello!
Runner - hope you recover soon!
Dis - glad the bathtime is better. Good work.
Ren - jealous of that sleep Ava had. Henry is a 40min daytime napper but it's suprising what I can do in that time!
Orange - good on you for being organised with the work stuff.
Bon - IKWYM re bonds but I have a heap of hand me downs from my nephew and most of them still have labels on! They fit well too. I even don't mind the wondersuits although most people hate them. There is a big bonds sale here tomorrow so I'm off to check out teh next size up. I also love their trackie dacks for the older 2.
Gypsy - Henry is very vocal now too. Lots of goooo goooo ga gas. He's a funny little thing and thinks I am the funniest person in the world. Such a mummy's boy.
Re cloth at night. I use Cushie Tushies night nappy which I am finding great on Henry. I actually got 3 a while ago, originally to use on Ned and Lucie (they are a one size nappy and need a cover). It will last all night on H but is soaked in the morning, but the cover holds it all in. I can't use my BP at night time - couldn't on any of the kids, they just don't cut it for night use. The older kids hated the cushie tushies though but they were old when I tried them on them (TT at day and just tried them at night). But they are good now so go with that. Mind you I am actually still using disposable atm because it is poooh central still here after rotavirus and I just couldn' t keep up.
Speaking of nappies gotta go and order my medium inserts for my BP......my baby is growing up and I've been putting this off for ages!

Hi all
Just got back from MCHN and am a bit disheartend
Nixon only weighs 5.8 kilos..very little and is 61 cm long,,she says hes u bit undersize for his age)the otherl nurse there said hes ok and i shouldnt worry too much,my paed said hes ok,,just feel ive let him down, hes a shocker of an eater and no matter what i try nothing works, his dad was the same...i just persist and hard witht he reflux.
Then she tells me he needs more tummy time(he hates it esp with reflux)and he should be rolling and he needs to be on the floor stretched outmore and not upright(der i have to keep him upright for reflux)Im a bit angry with them as i feel like just a number in a production line, they had a babies program for mums n bubs about sleeping, settling.,feeding solids, etc etc and they failed to let me know, glad im moving in 3 weeks and the MCHN and centre there is really good..
A good thing my boys getting long, hes grown quite a bit,
feedtime for nixon
time to go

Ah Sonya I'm sorry you feel down. MCHN's have a bit of a rep for doing that believe me I know. Look you are doing a FAB job and Nixon is fine. Do not doubt yourself and your abilities as a mother. You are doing all the best things for him. It's not your fault he's small - it sounds like genetics to me! And he will roll and do all that stuff in his own time.....BBL MIL just arrived.........
-
Sonya - sorry to hear your visit didn't go well. Don't worry too much about what the MCHN said, when we visited a couple of weeks ago Owen was only 5.5kgs, when I look at some of the other babies in my mums group I think he is the skinniest by far. His length was 59cms, we keep being told he's long and lean, DH and I don't know where he's got either from, lol. I'm with Soph on the rolling, he'll roll in his own time, the MCHN's just look at averages, some take longer than others. I have a nephew who's almost 2 and not yet talking, just pointing, his parents aren't worried just say he'll talk when he's ready. Also your MCHN can make you feel bad depending on who they are.
Runner - hope you're recovering well
Orange - you're very organised with the work stuff, nothing like getting in early
Well, today has been a mixed bag for us today, thought we were doing well with the sleeping, Owen settled himself off to sleep all day today but when it came to tonight he just wouldn't go down. The way he usually settles didn't work, so picked him up and rocked him which I haven't done in ages but didn't work well. Then in desperation I breastfed him really quickly, re wrapped him and bang he was asleep. Just when you think things are sorted they throw a curve ball your way!!
Gave him a massage just before he went to bed which I've done many times before, but wondered whether that stimulated him too much with the eye contact etc., who knows..........
-
Just a quick one for Sonie.....I agree with Soph and Shellsie.....you are doing a fab job with little Nixon. You will know when there is something wrong and just remember that all bubs are different and unique in terms of development. My DD and DS are very different. Imagine how boring this thread would be if all our bubs were doing the same things at the same time he he!
I mentioned earlier that my DD is only JUST 10kg and 90cm tall....she is a couple of weeks off turning 2. She is about an inch off the lowest percentile on the graphs in the growth book - so she isn't even on the chart or in the lowest percentile. I am not worried about her weight as she gains....even if very slowly. It annoys me how these nurses put pressure on us to have our children fit into the mould that they call 'normal'. So, be strong and don't let their opinions worry you. BTW, thought I would let you know that we have started solids with some positive signs so far. Still early days and we have only offered farex, but we have noticed that he is keeping it down...unlike most bottles. HTH
Shellsie: "Who knows" is my answer to many things when it comes to Dash too.....he he.
Runner: Thanks for the encouragement...I am really excited. Hope your calf heals soon. I thought water exercises were gentle on your body??
ETA: Both kidlets are in bed by 7pm but I am unable to get to sleep. Anyone else suffering from insomnia? I have never before but it has been a problem lately. I am lucky that I can sleep for 12 hours a night if I want but I am getting only about 3-5 hours of a sleep a night.
-
Thanks ladies for all your encouraging words...I know my son is doing well as hes so responsive, happy and in-tune with his surroundings, hes just a shocker of a feeder, his dad was,i was,and we are both small framed people(though at 65 kilos and size 14 at 5 foot 1 its hardly small atm)so am not stressing too much, just angry at my MCHN oh well im moving and wont be seeing the twit again anyway..
I so need to drop the kilos.am going on a diet soon, have ordered that new ab swing pro thing on tv where u spin on the disc,i just have a muffin top and big boobs,,,always had both even when slimmer. That and a wii fit and a gym membership and im gonna get crack-a-lackin,id like to lose 5-8 kilos to start, thats my goal..i dont eat a lot as im always on the go..Nixon's christening is in august so id like to lose it by the, funny when i put my control top shapewear nickers on i look like i did b4 preggo, everyone says ive done well n not gained a lot of weight which i didnt but i just feel fat and the last 5 kilos are hard, the 1st 3 weeks or so the weight dropped off me,dont help that it winter n shyt here n hard to get outside...
Orange-im suffering insomnia too...always have but since Nixon born it went away and the last couple of weeks i been going bed 1am and the next day im zonked....been taking valerian but i have had a lot on my plate as well as i have probs with my metabolism and my thyroid(been removed and am on daily medication)am about to cut all caffeine out, dont drink it after 3pm but if say i have a red bull at 2pm im peaking at midnight??go figure
anyway im off chat soon

hi ladies,
soniebon - I totally agree SO MUCH with what the other ladies on this forum have already said - YOU are the expert when it comes to Nixon, not the Nurse...she can guide you and offer advice, but really, you are there with him everyday and know him the best. He will do things in his own time. Sometimes going to these MHCNs make mothers feel bad about all sorts of things when in reality, YOU are doing such a wonderful, loving job of bringing your son up - GOOD ON YA !!
And don't be so hard on yourself re the weight loss - just do what you can, when you can. Eat as fresh as possible, drink lots of water, move about as much as possible and sleep as much as possible - YES - sleep helps to produce a hormone that helps us to lose weight and control appetite. Recent research confirms this. And walk with the bub and pram whenever you can.
orangefeather - calf still sore....not happy! I have been cycling all week instead of running. Water exercises are gentle on the body, but NOT kicking with fins HARD for 400ms straight when you have not done it for months!! Well, only 7 and a bit weeks until the half marathon, but I should be OK.
soph - where are you ordering the BBH inserts from?? I have one for every nappy, but also used Polar Fleece cut into pieces for extra leakage protection - works a treat!! Get it from Spotlight.
-
Runner, it must be killing you not being able to run! You poor thing, I hope it heals up soon for you.
Son, the other girls have got it right! Sounds like little Nixon is just going to be small-framed. Most weight-growth is genetic in our little ones.
Orange, both in bed by 7pm? What's your secret? Ben's bedtime is 9pm. I know it's late, but he only sleeps 10 hours overnight so I'd rather him get up at 7am than put him to bed earlier and have him get up early.
Sorry, I can't help you on the insomnia. I'm so exhausted right now that I swear I'm asleep before my head hits the pillow at night. Sneaking naps during the day is another story entirely :(
Soph, if you find a good night time nappy please let me know. We've just given up on them again for Ben after three nights of him wetting right through his BBH and over the top of the wool cover :(
I'm still buggered here, but we've had a good day. Got organised enough to hit two shopping centres this morning, swapping Jared between the HAB and the pram. Ben was an angel thank goodness! Both bubs were in cloth, I bf Jared and shared a snack with Ben and we all came home happy :) Jared even fell asleep in the car which he rarely does. I had to stock up on winter clothes for them both as they both seem to have grown so much in just this past week. Unfortunately I don't have a lot of winter hand me downs in 00 and 0 so had to buy more. Oh well, maybe we can use them for #3! :)

OMG!!! Dash just rolled from one end of the lounge room to the other (about 3m all up)!! It took a little while but he was rolling and laughing...too cute!! Message to Dash: Slow down little man, Mummy wants you to stay her little baby boy for as long as you can. She loves you and loves that you are growing into a strong little boy BUT what's the hurry??
He is a happier boy these past couple of days in terms of the pain reflux causes him when he is feeding. It certainly peaked at 4 months like the paed said but we now have it under control...finally. He is now having 3 solid snacks a day (cereal and custard) along with his 120mL of milk as per usual. NOW he is getting the right amount of 'food' each day AND it is all staying down!!!! He is excited about the food but still fusses a little with his formula BUT he is drinking it faster and is finishing the bottle! We had to switch him over to Losec as Zantac was no longer doing its thing and he needed something stronger. Very happy mummy here!! Also, he had a Rusk (well chewed on but didn't do too much damage) today and I will get the mesh teething bag out next week and put some cold ice inside it (and fruit/vege once I have introduced those foods of course). I have to stick to veges first as fruits are acidic and can trigger the reflux. He is drooling, has flushed cheeks and that double tooth is still pushing its way through (weird). The pitting on his bottom gums is nearly at the point where the teeth break through....looks like two at once. He is handling it well though. Oh, slow down little man!!
So, a Dash post today. Will catch up on personals tomorrow. Hope everyone is having a fabulous weekend. Chat soon!

Morning girls!!! Just realised i havent posted in here for a few days!
Today is exactly a YEAR TO THE DATE we found out we were pregnant with Ava!!! :cheer: WOW it's gone soooo fast..... I just noticed the belly buddies group 16-31jan 2010 is up now too!! Can you believe that was us a year ago?!?!?!? OMG... :o
Hope everyone is well and all your little bub's are going well. Ava was lying on her tummy this morning and picked up a toy that was in front of her, first time she's done that! Very proud of her. She's picked up toys when on her back but not her tummy so that's a first
We ordered some Green Kids nappies last night!! Got four of them can't wait to get them!! Some pretty patterns! And also two more Happy heinys arrived last week! We are full time cloth now
We have our ABA meeting today so looking forward to that. That's this morning.
Hope to catch up on personals later this arvo.
xx

Orange, OMG, what a little champ Dash is! Jared has still shown no real signs of rolling over! Ben rolled front to back at 11 weeks, but NEVER rolled back to front. Seriously, not until he was well and truly up and walking, well over a year old did he roll over. Strange child that one
I know what you mean about slowing down and being a baby. I've already told Jared that he's growing far too fast for mummy's liking :( They have plenty of time to be all grown up later!
Glad to hear Dash is doing better now that he's having some solid food. I'm not looking forward to going through all that again! Cooking, mashing etc, etc. I'm far too lazy for that!
Ren, good to hear from you again. Well done little Ava :) Jared is far more interested in toys than Ben was at this age and loves to pick them up, play with them and put them in his mouth. Ben never put stuff in his mouth!
Oh, gotta go, my little man is just waking up. He had a good night last night, only waking up once. I think we might finally be getting back into a routine after hospital!
-
Well, they are both sleeping nicely now. I have had over an hour on the Wii Fit and managed to get dinner on too - wonderful!
Jared has decided he will no longer take EBM from a bottle. I'm going to try again and then try it from a cup. It basically means I'm chained to him for at least the next two months. I really wanted to go to see Angels and Demons too :( On Saturday night I went to the footy and got a frantic call from DH halfway through the third quarter telling me Jared had refused the bottle and was screaming. I rushed home (took me an hour) and he was still screaming his little heart out. Poor DH! As soon as he saw me he started to whimper (Jared not DH!) and then I thought he might cause some serious damage with the force he was sucking with! Little bugger. Anyway, it isn't forever. Just a bit of a pain, especially since I had to throw out over a quarter of a litre of EBM :(
Jared is so keen to sit up. We all have playtime on our bed each night and have Jared sitting up supported with a boomerang pillow. He does situp thingys to try and sit up by himself. Crazy child! I can't believe he's four months old tomorrow!!!! Where has that time gone?
-
Dis - Have you tried a different bottle? You might remember I had the same problem a little while ago. On Ren and another friend's suggetsion I switched to Pigeon bottles and they work a treat!
Gotta go, little man is crying. Time to resettle!
-
Gypsy, we're trying the Closer to Nature ones and he had no problem with them a couple of months ago when he gave up on the Avent ones :( We might try Pigeon. I'm willing to give anything a go right now :)
-
Good morning!
Dis: Good on you for working out on the wii fit! We are going to get one soon (hopefully). They are just so expensive. Figure it is cheaper than the gym and I don't have to put my kidlets into care. Not to mention fun!!
Ren: Funny you mentioned about the new due in thread. I came in for a quick look the other morning (the long way) and started skimming through......who were these people!?? When I started reading I realised I was in the wrong section DER!! Cute pic of Ava! It's great when they can pick up toys. Dash can hold things to his mouth to chomp on now. It doesn't take long.....to turn from a newborn into an active little person. My favourite ages are 6 months, around when they are sitting and interacting with you more, and now 2ish (gosh, the conversations my DD and I have - great to be able to finally understand her he he). Enjoy every moment with your bubba girl!!
AFM: Well it seems that the Zantac might not of been working for Dash all along. Now that he is on Losec (because doctor did not want to increase Zantac amounts) he will polish off around 180mL (was only around 120mL) per bottle in half the time - what a great improvement!! This of course means that I don't have to feed him every hour in the morning and the afternoon. Because he has a 3-4 hour block of sleep around lunch and sleeps at least 12 hours at night, this does not leave a lot of time for feeding. So, most of his awake time was consumed by feeding, but not anymore!! He even enjoys floor time!! Phew! Feeding solids is also going well. It is great that he has that block of sleep in the middle of the because it gives DD and I some girlie time....very important you know he he. She has only just stopped having her lunch sleep so this is time we can now enjoy together.
We were off to a huge playground nearby today BUT it is raining!! It is a huge fort as long as our house and has ramps, firemans poles etc. Anyway, a lot of fun!! Instead we are headed to the nearby shopping centre where you can pay $3.50 to play on the jumping castle wonderland....only for under 5's and part of a cafe so we can enjoy some nice food as well. Should be a good day.
Have a great day everyone!! xx
-
Wow our bubs are starting to do stuff - ahhh thta's so much fun!
Dis - I could NEVER get Ned to take a bottle hence it was 2 years of him being attached to me. And I foolishly haven't tried H with one so prob the same but oh well! He's prob my last so I'll enjoy it while I can! Good luck!
Orange - Oh I love places like that where you can have a cuppa while kids play happily. Joined up an indoor placy centre here - it's $7 a week direct debited but we go once a week usually (more when the weather is bad), the kids play, we all have lunch and I can read the paper in peace. That is until H becomes more demanding
I hear H stirring so will be quick....still poohing everything and still a bit of blood. Hoping it stops soon or I am back to the docs. Weighed yesterday and 7.3kg so that's good given he's been so sick! Has slipped a bit on his curve but I don't care about those much anyway - thought he would have been worse. Lucie wasn't that size until she was 7 months! And he rolled yesterday  Needs more tummy time but we'll get there, hard with 2 other youngies to do much of that for fear of him being jumped on
Anyway gotta scoot Kinder this morning and taking Ned for a haircut. My big boy has the most gorgous platinum blonde hair and I hate getting it snipped off!
-
Orange, yeah the Wii Fit is awesome! WE got the Wii for ourselves for Chrissy with the intention of getting the Fit once Jared was here. I'm going to be giving up my gym membership since I just can't get there often enough, and now that J is refusing the bottle it will become even harder.
That playground sounds awesome! I love going to the park, I always have a play too  J goes in the HAB so I can go down the slide and climb stuff. I'm such a big kid
It's raining here too :(
Soph, I just gave Ben his first haircut a few weeks ago. He has platinum blonde hair too, super-duper curly as well, which is why I cut it rather than going elsewhere. I figured if I stuffed up, nobody would notice
We have the same problem with Jared and floor time. Ben is suddenly fascinated with Jared's playgym thingy that hangs over him and gets too carried away 'showing' J how to use it. He gets nowhere near as much floor time that Ben got :(
Good luck with the poo thing. Hopefully it will fix itself up so you don't need a return trip to the doc.
I booked us in for needles on Friday :( Jared is four months old today!!!
-
BTW: I lost half a kilo this week....but will wait to loose the whole kg before adjusting my ticker. Can't really believe it considering I have not been very good this week (quite a bit of chocolate he he. Can't complain!!
ETA: Haven't started on the treadmill yet as it is raining and DD is not going outside because she loves water too much. When the rain turns into a light shower I usually deck her out in her gumboots and raincoat for a splash in the puddles but I don't let her do that for long.
