Hi everyone
Even though I haven't been posting much I still read up on how you are all doing. Big pat on the back for Ren - you are an inspiration. To persevere for 6 weeks like you have is just amazing. Good on you!!!
Sounds like we are all starting to get some decent sleep. Sam had his best night yet last night with a sleep from 11.30pm - 6.30am. It was great! 3 months old today - I can't believe how quickly the time has gone. He is still a bit wobbly with his head so we still support him as much as we need to. He's really starting to chat alot now and smiles and makes the cutest noises. He's starting to react to noise alot more now too, he will turn to where the noise is coming from - particularly if it is DH or I. Being a Mum is so great, I love it!
Good luck with the house Bon, we have just sold & bought a new place. It was a bit stressful - building inspections are just a joke these days so brace yourself. All they do is cover their own backsides and fill their reports with everything & anything. Sounds promising if you have 3 parties interested. Yay.
Good luck for the fun run runnermum, you are right. Just getting there on time will be an achievement in itself.
Enjoy your time with your Dad Jo.
Will be back soon - big hugs to everyone. We are all so busy these days tho.
-
AJC - happy 3mths old to Samuel!!! WOW!! :bluecheer:
Runner - good luck at the marathon!! how exciting! Good luck getting the family out the door on time  you can do it. And thank you for saying you're proud of me. I feel very proud i've stuck with it..... it's been hard and not a good introduction to BF'ing at all! BUt i know i can push past the hiccups and get there.... and we are almost where we want to be.
Disgirl - yeah we've started using cloth.... only a few MCNs fit her still waiting for her to grow chubbier before she fits her other MCNs! Just ordered some Cushie Tushie's! Can't wait to get them... all different patterns!! CUTE!! :D we are using newborn magicalls (BBH) and i have peapods but they are too big. also BBH fitteds with covers gonna start using them soon....
We are also using the old school terry flats with snappi's.... very cute. And yeah using up our newborn sposies....we go thru so many i feel so bad for the environment  but in the next 2 weeks we will switch to full time cloth with the odd disposable now and then.
And well done on getting all those jobs done! What a champ you are!! You must have slept well last night hehe
We have Ava's photo shoot on Saturday!! Can't wait to see how all the photos turn out..... hopefully she'll be in a sleepy state and relaxed so we get some good shots otherwise we'll just do it another day. My friend is doing it the same friend who did the photo shoot when I was 33wks PG!! :D
Just came home from the GP's and had our 6week check up! All is good and my 3rd degree tear (ouchies) has healed nicely. She said my pelvic floor muscles are nice and tight and I told her i havent even been doing my exercises so i must be lucky there  haha!! DH will be happy..... all systems go... he's been asking when can he 'jump back in the saddle' hehehehehe

hi everyone.....
AJC - I cannot believe your little one is 3 months old!!! wow, and sleeping so well, that must be wonderful for you and your hubby.
Hey, girls, I am NOT running a marathon - this distance is 42.2kms, and at only 6 weeks post baby, I am not ready for that kind of distance yet! It is only an 8km run, although the most I have done a 12km run last weekend. I am in training for the Gold Coast Half marathon (21.1kms) in July.
Ren - you are most welcome - everyone needs praise and you deserve it. How is Ava's reflux?
Girls, need adice re Amara's reflux. as you know, went to the docs on Tuesday afternoon and started her on Gaviston - which is a bit like Mylanta, but also a bit of a thickener. Anyway, helps with acid and discomfort, indigestion etc..
Have I noticed a difference? well, not significantly. I just then took 25 mins to settle her after her 9.30am feed - crying, struggling in cot etc. I did not wait too long to get her to bed either! Last night she slept from 8pm to 1.30am but after this feed, had swallowing problems and discomfort. Not overly crying, but it was 3am until she was OK again. then slept until 6am.
I am suppose to ring Doc today and tell him how it is going. I am torn between getting strong medication and waiting a bit longer to see if this Gaviston works..........ahh, I just don't know what to do.
-
Runner: I think I have mentioned before that the Gaviscon works like the valve to the stomach and floats on top of the stomach contents to form a plug so it doesn't come up. Dash's reflux is quite bad so it doesn't completely stop it all the time, meaning sometimes the hot acid comes up to the back of his throat and goes back down iykwim - but it has stopped the projectile vomit. That is why he has the Zantac (liquid) - it decreases the aciditiy so it doesn't burn and cause him discomfort, he therefore feeds now with no probs. If he doesn't have the Zantac three times a day he is very uncomfortable after a feed. We started on just Gaviscon like you and then had to add Zantac for the same reasons as you described. Hope that helps.
BTW: Since you are breastfeeding you would have to syringe the Zantac and it tastes horrible....it really turned Dash off feeding until I mixed it in his formula. Other girls have mentioned Losec (powder) which does the same thing without the awful taste.
-
Happy 12 weeks Sam!!
Happy 2 months Nixon!!
Our bubs are really starting to grow up....and quickly!! Slow down Bubbas - what's the rush??
-
Hi mummas,
Thanks to Jo we are having much more success with settling Emily. She still screams when we first put her down but using the pat/shh method Jo suggested she settles pretty quickly:dance:
She is having some trouble with feeding she either seems to be too sleepy and falls asleep after one side or gets really distressed and kicks and screams. I am still trying to figure out what is wrong and worry that she is not getting enough. I might weigh her at clinic next week to check.
Runner: We also have the swaddle wrap which a friend gave to me with high recommendations. Emily has managed to get arms and once a leg?? out of it but it is generally really good and much better than a normal wrap for Emily.
I also managed to go for a run today. It was very short maybe 15 mins and pretty slow but felt great and I was surprised at how good I felt after not running for 18 months due to miscarriage related fears and pregnancy. Thanks for your advice...I can't wait to go again. Great news about entering the race...I hope it all works out for you.
Jo: Thanks again for your help...things are so much better.
bon: What is the wedge that you use. I am putting Emily on her side with a towel as a wedge but not sure about it. I am worried about SIDS risk but am using movement monitor. I am also putting into practice some of the baby whisperer techniques thanks to Jo. I will have to buy the book too.
Ren: Great news about breastfeeding. Well done for continuing it is worth it. We are planning to use MCN's soon. Going to use Rudd Stimulus money to buy them...somehow we are getting three lots of that money plus baby bonus...amazing!
-
Sonya - happy 2 mths Nixon!!! Far out.... goes fast!!
Me-lisa - i just realised! Your little girl was born on the same date as Ava!! I didn't realise?!? Same ticker age hehe 02/02. Lucky you getting some of Rudd's handouts! We miss out on those I think,.... or just get a bit!
Runner - my LC thinks that the Paediatrician mis-diagnosed Ava having reflux and now thinks she was just crying and unsettled in first 3 wks due to being hungry :( as she wasnt feeding well at the breast and i had no idea.... so we took her off the Losec tablets and she is fine! Mind you, at the same time we took her off them she was getting more food as i was topping her up with EBM and formula to help her gain weight as she desperately needed it. I've heard Gaviscon is good for babies reflux, good luck hope it works
And to me... 8km IS a marathon  hehe well done.
Well today I felt like the WORST Mummy in the world :( Ava and I went to a friends baby shower and the drive should have taken only 1hr each way but with traffic, road blocks and my GPS system taking me the LONG way (no idea why!!?!?) it took 2hrs EACH WAY.
So Ava and I were in the car 4hrs today... my gosh what a shocker. Poor Ava cried alot on the way home she was so tired and so unsettled. Fed her a bottle and stopped by the road to feed her and she was ok for about 20mins after but then woke up and was crying again but i just had to keep driving :( it was hard..... felt like the worst mummy. Talk about mothers guilt!!!!! :wall: have you girls been in that situation?? it was awful.... It's okay if its like 15mins from the shops to home i can handle that but this was a long drive and with a crying baby it was so stressful and upsetting :(
Baby shower was fun though and when we did arrive i enjoyed it and Ava fed and slept in my arms contently. Was good to see my friend and share the day with her.
On a good note - Ava is smiling heaps lately!! It's soooooo cute.........
-
Hi ladies,
my goodness what a crazy few days ive had, Caleb hasnt been eating or sleeping, took him to the dr, he has a red sore throat from the tummy acid coming back up and has a reaction to the formula making his throat sore again, so got him some soy formula, infant gaviscon and infant panadol and I have my angel baby back! he downed all of his bottles, slept for hours and last night slept from 8pm to 6.30am!!!!!!! he didnt wake up once, didnt make a peep of noise at all! I cant believe my poor boy was just not feeling well.
He is loving spending time with Grandad, those two get up to no good i tell ya! The smiles and the cuddles that go on hehehe. I will walk in the room and he stops smiling and then my dad said as soon as i left the room he watched me walk out and looked at dad as if to say "yes shes gone, back to mens business!" and started talking and smiling again! what a cheeky little monkey hahahaha!
Its so great having him here, He goes home tomorrow so im a bit sad about that but we will see him again in May and we got heaps of photos, i think dad is in love with Caleb! He just adores him, he said that whenever someone would tell him that their little baby sleeps through the night and never cries he knew they were always lying but he says here he has seen just that and he cant believe it, he said even when Caleb was sick with his sore throat he never cried! He did say though that once Caleb gets up and running its gonna be fun around our house :)
Well i better go wake my boy, its feeding time at the zoo! hahaha
-
Jo, glad to hear you're having such a good time with your dad. Poor little Caleb. Hopefully he'll improve now you know he's sick.
Ren, J cried last night on the way home from my SIL's house. It was awful and DH was going to stop so I could feed him and settle him, but we soldiered on to home. It was only a 15 minute drive and he cried for the last 10 but it felt like a lifetime. I find it really hard because Ben NEVER cried and we generally don't let J cry either - unless of course we have no choice like last night :( Mummies guilt is constant I"m afraid. There's always something to feel guilty about.
Us, we had a MUCH better night last night! I finally decided to let the poor little guy sleep on his tummy. Yes I know it's against SIDS guidelines, but we all just needed a good nights' sleep and I have the motion monitor and J is also able to lift and move his head very easily. Anyway, it worked like a charm :) J slept from 10:30, I got him up for a dream feed at 3:30am and put him straight back to bed before he slept right through until 8:30!!! The only reason I got him up at 3:30 was because I was up with Ben anyway so thought I might as well try to prolong J's sleep. Of course Ben chose last night to have a bad night  Nah, he had an upset tummy so it's not his fault. Tonight though, I'm hoping for another lovely long night of sleep - last night was glorious!!!

Hi gang
im up the beach enjoying my time away from the ratrace,,,was a bit daunting as it ended up being about a 4hour or so car ride,my mum lives half way so we stopped there and feed play etc then we stoped again and enjoyed the sounds of the birds, sunsets and the smell of the bush, nixon woke as we pulled into MIL driveway...
He went down pretty good last night, today a different story,1st morning sleep good then lunchtime one not so good,he was put in car and taken out half hour later so upset the routine a bit,he didnt go back to sleep for a few hours, then home to nanas and asleep on her bed for 3 hours, then nana and pa spoiled him with cuddles and had feed bath and a bit overtired n cranky after bath but asleep in portacot in 10 mins, didnt want much food today cos too tired but tonight sucked down 160ml..little piggy
gorgeous weather here, tomorrow we are off to take nixon to his 1st trip to the beach,is a 3 min walk across the road, then mummy is nickin of for a 3 hour pamper n massage at the day spa.mmmmmmmmmmmmm
me-lisa- i cant recall the exact name of those wedges,i got mine in big w in the babies section,i know kmart sell em and you could try target..
sorry to hear about everyone having probs with reflux, poor little bubbas..
runner- 8km run isnt a marathon to us girls, its torture!!!!!!!! u legend well done
anyway im off for a ****tail and watch a dvd but i be lucky to last 10 mins, tired and today i had arvo nap which havent done in over 6 weeks
p.s-how strong are the miracle blankets jo???? nixon can escape everything...i will buy a dozen if need be if they workk..hehe
nini nice weekend to all
sonya
-
Sonie - the miracle blankets are REALLY good, Caleb is pretty strong, he gets out of them sometimes but only maybe once every few days, perhaps its those times that we just havent wrapped him properly in it, but its better than having him escape the wraps every single time. I love that it keeps his hands by his body cos they get cold sometimes.
Well my dad leaves in the morning before Caleb even gets up so i have to be up at 5am, havent been up that early since Caleb first came home from hospital! Im gonna miss my dad, we have had so much fun and Caleb and him had a ball! right, im exhausted, night all!
-
hi girls,
a horrible morning here. amara will NOT stop crying. We started her on Zantac yesterday lunch time - so she has just had her 3rd dose.............how long will it take for us to see improvements??
This is just so horrible and I know you ladies understand the stress it causes. Take that with also having our son with Autism and it is double the horror.
So is it Ok to give Gaviston also ??? I want to try anything......
-
Runner - yes its ok to use Gaviscon as well, we do for Caleb. not sure how long the Z takes, weve only started that yesterday
-
We've just had a bad night in our house too. A few friends and I decided to have a girls night out, so DH stayed home and looked after Max. I had expressed 5 bottles, so feeding shouldn't have been a problem. Well, about 11.30-12.00 I got a text asking how long I was going to be cos Max wouldn't take the bottle, wouldn't sleep... I got a friend to bring me home and about an hour or so later we finally managed to get Max to take a bottle and go to bed.
The next 2 feeds he hasn't taken a whoel lot form the bottle either, so I finally caved in about midday and gave him some from the boob - I don't feel hungover, so figure there couldn't be too much alcohol left in there. You can imagine how guilty I feel now about the night out though:redface:.
On a better note - we had our latest health centre visit yesterday and Max is up to 5.67kg now. He's in the 75th percentile for weight and length, so getting to be a chubby little thing!
-
Runner: It is OK to take both Zantac and Gaviscon...they do two different things. Gaviscons helps with the vomit and Zantac takes the acidity out of what is left. The two work well together. It took Dash a good couple of days to settle. He is on 3mL three times a day. If he misses even one dose (or doesn't finish the bottle with the meds in it) the rest of the day is a write off. Hope Amara feels better soon.
I too haven't had a wonderful morning. Just finished crying on the phone to the manager of major shop about their door lady - I have made an official complaint. She saw me take the time to pick a trolley for DD where the buckles do up properly (the sixth trolley was suitable). I would normally take the pram but my boot latch has gone and I can't get the pram out!! Dash was in the sling. We in the store for maybe 2 minutes and a bent down to get something off the shelf. DD got out the trolley - she can do this quite easy because she is hypermobile and can squeeze herself out of anywhere, even her car seat.
She was about 3 meters in front of me and I was chasing her with the trolley and Dash in the sling. We got near the door and the door lady could see me coming (most door people would see what was happening and try to help stop a child I'm sure) and I said, "I'm gettig there, I'll be back with a smile". Instead of letting me go without a fuss she insisted I stop and have my handbag and sling checked. So much so that she even put her hand on my shoulder and was using her other hand to peer inside the sling so I couldn't just run for Dash's sake. She said, "I know she is running, this wont take long!". Are you kidding??
Meanwhile DD has gone out of sight so I threw my bags at her and went running after DD. I think that this is just disgusting and so does the manager - especially with a 2 month old in the sling and me running. They are reviewing the video footage now as I speak because she was not allowed to touch me and they are angry about what she has done. Anyway, rant over.....I feel better now! On a good note, DD is insisting on going to the toilet and I got one of each this morning yeah!!! Hard work looking after a refluxer and toilet training a toddler I tell you lol!! Don't think I will go out again in a hurry.....it is the hardest thing I have had to do.....shopping with a toddler and a newborn....and I am used to having 25 schoolies in my care 5 days a week! This is sooooo much harder!
-
Oh Orange, what a horrible woman! Definitely make a formal complaint. Glad you managed to catch Z before she ran too far away.
Good on you for toilet training Z! Ben is still a long way off being ready. I'm kinda grateful for that right now to tell you the truth
We've had a good morning (sorry to the rest of you who are having trouble this morning :( ) I'm letting J sleep on his belly at night now, with the motion monitor on. It's made the world of difference to my little man. I'm now getting five-six hour sleeps at night and good naps during the day. He is also giving me tonnes of smiles and laughs! Much happier little man and consequently, much happier mummy! I even went out shopping this morning by myself to get some gym gear. In case any of you are wondering, it is impossible to buy sports bras in 12F or 12G sizes :( I ended up getting a 14 E which I know will ride up at the back, but it's the best I can do :(
Anyway, better be off and enjoy my last few minutes of peace. Ben is due up any second now.
-
Orange - for Zantac, we do 15mls and give it to Caleb straight, can you do it in 5ml lots instead?? my dr said not to put it in the bottle, he does love the taste though, its strawberry i think, judging by the smell?
I cant beleive it but last night Caleb slept 11.5 hours without waking once! down at 8pm and up at 7.30am, i just cant beleive it, i keep waiting for him to wake up through the night as if to say "your good fortune is over, this was just a test" hahaha
Hes a little unsettled today as he has had Grandad around for the past few days and now that hes gone things are getting back to normal and so is he. Im gonna get DH to do the morning feed tomorrow so i can get a decent sleep in for once (it would be my first since giving birth!)
Dropped my dad off at the airport this morning (at 5am no less arrrrgh!) oh i so miss him already, he said hes really gonna miss Caleb, i think he really fell in love with him :) there was a bit of talk about how he would love to move here, i would just have to get my sisters to move here too if that were the case, especially as one of them just had her baby too (and she is my dads natural daughter (they both are) so her daughter is his first natural grandchild, my dad is actually my mothers second husband, he raised me and I see him as my father)
well, i think i might go and have a nap :)
