Firstly welcome Shan and your son Lleyton shares the same birthday as my boy Nixon..Dont feel bad about adjusting to your new life and motherhood, hell i cry every 2nd day at the mo...lol and its not PND its tired n drained and i have a few issues with my iron levels and also im on thyroid medication and thats outta whack so i too am a walking space cadet...
Jo-Well done on the routine with Caleb, gee your doing well,he sounds like a good feeder and sleeper,my squirrel is a bugger to get to feed,im lucky i can get him to have 100ml on the bottle, hes a lazy feeder and falls asleep...he could sleep in a hurricane my kid, except the odd night, hates going down in the bassinette, day or night.good to hear caleb sleeping through,i can get about 4 hours outta nixon at night then he wakes,he hates having the slighest wet nappy etc, during the day i struggle keeping him wake,he loves the car and pram, today we went to that big park in essendon with the lake and walked around,he was asleep on and off but loved it,so did we..
Also just wanna ask has anyone been getting snappy at there partners,i have, gee i feel bad, that and i been having the odd cry..i dont feel depressed though,am happy just feeling unwell physically and tired and not getting much love n cuddles of DH as hes tired n trying to help me and run my business...im such a needy sook atm...lol
Well hope you all had a nice valentines day,im doing it the tighta$$ way n getting flowers today cos they be half the beleeding price, even though 4 weeks on im still getting sent flowers n congrats over Nixon being born
-
Well looks like im gonna have to start the routine all over again tomorrow, Craig let me sleep in today to look after Caleb and i got up when we are supposed to be putting Caleb to sleep and Craig had put him down an hour earlier and had fed him at a completely differnt time!!!! so now its all out of whack, i nearly cried, we had such a good thing going and he goes and does that!!! I was so mad but what can i do about it, its done now. Lets hope its not too confusing for the poor little man and we can re establish it tomorrow, im not gonna try today, that would mean either letting him sleep double or staying up double the time and i cant do that to him, thats kinda mean.
Son - i still have moments where i want to cry, and as for snapping at DH, i did it yesterday constantly, i dont even know what i was snappy for,t here was no real reason! apparantly the hormones do this to us for about 6 weeks after birth so not long to go now.
What do i do about the sun? Caleb hates the sun on his face, it looks like it actually hurts his eyes, you know like when you are really tired and you go outside and the sun hurts your eyes and you cant open them? thats what he acts like. Should i keep him out of the sun or try and get him used to it??
Anyway, i need some breaky then off to church
Ciao

Jospehine - bugger about the routine. My DH is going back to work tomorrow so am hoping to get in to some sort of routine. Although Leighton has a rough one that he has worked out already. I find it difficult not having a routine at the moment but am trying to go with the flow. Do babys eventually get into a routine themselves or do we have to try and get them in one??
Last night Leighton wasnt too bad. He had a spat from about 7.30pm - 9pm. He would not stop crying and kept doing the holding the breath cry....I really dont like that one!! DH took him for a walk around the block and when he got back he was fast asleep. He must of worn himself out with all the crying as he slept until just after 11pm.
He has been waking up for a feed every three hours but yesterday and last night he was waking up every 2 hours. I hope that doesnt last as it is really tiring. I just put him down and then before I know it he is up again for another feed.
How is everyone else doing??

Hey Shan, Welcome to the group.
I thought that Fin was unsettled when I had to get up at 2 and at 4 this morning. Usually he sleeps through. It would seem from reading your posts, he is an angel so no complaints here.
We are starting to have a bit of play time after feeding. Only about 15-30 min, then he gets tird and starts to nod off.
My Maternal Child Health Nurse (MCHN) Said that babies have growth spurts every 2-3 weeks. So we sould expext the feeding to decrease to every 2 hrs during this time. Fin is starting to do this at the moment. Other than that we are feeding ever 3-4. and 5-7 over night.
That said the little man is up again, so i'm off to play before he screams.
Snoochie Boochies.

Hi Ladies,
glad to read that im not the only one having problems with nighttime settling :( - Ella is a nightmare between 7.30 and midnight and again at 3.00am - Sonie, Nixon sounds exactly like Ella, sleeps really well during the day then come night time, HELL NO - its world war 3 trying to get her to settle :wall:
Oh well what can we do but perservere?- i just keep reminding myself that she's not even 4 weeks old yet and she spent 8.5mths in my warm tummy with muffled sounds and darkness so she has no idea of day/night yet!!
hope everyone else is enjoying their bundle of joys, even with the tears, screaming and sleep deprivation!
-
im hoping im not jinxing myself tonight by saying this but had a good night last night,Nixon dont like going to bed b4 830pm,we find that if we put him to bed around that time with a bottle and a bath he ok,he been staying awake a bit more during the day and having a play so thats helping,i shouldnt complain as he generally is a good night time sleeper,i think cos ive had a good run that when i do cop the odd bad night its a shock to the systkem..hes asleep now so am hoping he will have his --9pm feed and then go back down,he just gone sleep not long ago after a play...today he didnt have a lot of solid 3-4 hour sleeps..im using the save our sleep book as a guide and implementing some of it around what works for nixon,i cant do the get up 7am thing and feed for the day after doing the night feeds and since nixon still waking up around 11pm,2am and 5am ish for feeds it wreck all of us..
Well today i feel crapola.am off to the docs tomorrow,i feel really fatigued and just need to lay down all the time,my body is aching and i think my thyroid levels are out and thats why i feel so yuk,im hoping its not PND...As you get paranoid and think oh is it the start of it,that and i been not eating properly dont help,so tonigght big feed of vegies, salads, fruits and am going back on my low GI diet i was in when i had gestational diabetes as since i been off it i feel sick..
Whilst i remember it my boy is sensitive to a lot of chemicals in baby products,.we got given the johnsons lavendar bath n wash n masage stuff and he broke out in a rash, good ol sudocream works a treat,DH rubbed some on him and in the spot where he rubber the johnson lavender stuff the rash came up,that and the non-organic baby wipes make his bum a bit red, plus i was using them to dab n wipe his face and he got dry skin n rash from that so we have had to go back to using all organic products, not that i deviated i just tried the lavender and no good, think i will use it,Dh gave me a massage with it n was nice!!!!!!!!!
Did any of you manage to go Big W baby sale, the catalogue out now is the baby bible..love it,got a few things but theres only so much u can buy/need and gotta watch the cash-flow,took nixons grandma there to shop..lol
cheers bon

Good morning everyone! Hope you all had a wonderful weekend with your bubbas!! It is great to read about your baby 'adventures' and how much you are all in love with your bubs!! Sounds like we are all having our little issues with bubs....including us (reflux). Routines....I tend not to have a day routine (this worked last time) and feed on demand during the day. Only because I am out and about a lot and it works better for bubs to be flexible (don't have to work out my day around scheduled sleep times etc.). But whatever works to make mum and bub happy together is what is best! Also, my bubs have a big growth spurt every couple of weeks which throws any routine out the window when adjusting feed amounts etc. DH and I are pretty relax and go with the flow.
We do have a night routine. DD slept through 12 hours a night by 6-7 weeks. DS is capable of doing 7-8 hour stretches but we now wake him as he has terrible reflux and needs smaller feeds more often - his little body can't handle more than 100mL at any time and it is worse on an empty stomach(he is a happy chucker because it doesn't disturb his sleep and he doesn't scream the house down - he gives a sharp shriek when he voms but that is it). He would projectile (even out his nose) each and every bottle but was settled by thickened formula (if only a little), gaviscon (halved the amount of vom) and a dummy of all things!
I really didn't want to do the dummy thing but it works (for now) simply because he is lazy at swallowing and lets the milk pour down his throat or gulps, the dummy is teaching him what to do! So...when he wakes he has the dummy for 5 minutes (to settle his eagerness for the food), feed half of the bottle, dummy , burp, rest of bottle, dummy, burp, play. No dummy for sleep because he self settles really well without even a grizzle. This has slowed his feed down and we have had no vomit for 48 hours YEAH!! So, still early stages and may just be a coincidence. Hoping not because if not settled by the end of the week he is going on prescription formula and meds.
Funny thing is....he has gained 1 kg in just under 3 weeks.....imagine how much he would have chubbed up if he didn't spew most of his food up he he!!
Anyway, if you read all of that then you are a LEGEND!! Obviously I have nothing better to do on a Monday morning (other than cleaning but who wants to do that)!! Wishing you all the best with your bubs this week - if establishing routines, getting bubs to settle or whatever your challenge with bubs is for now he he!!
Have a wonderful day everyone. Talk soon.
JO: Hope Caleb gets back into his routine for you today....I know it is important to you. A friend of mine followed the routine in that book when she had BIG sleeping issues with her bubs and it worked. It took 2 weeks and her DD is now 20 months and is still a really great sleeper and very relaxed....so good luck. You might have a better chance with DH at work today?? Sweet that your DH is sooo hands on with bubs though....a lot aren't!!

From a first timer its really good to hear different routines. We are struggling at the moment with anything as GP put me on antibiotics because of bleeding and forgot to tell me that the antibiotics cause diahorea, colicy symtoms and general unsettledness in breastfed babies.
We had sort of started a routine with about 15-30mins of play after each feed then wrap and cuddle and self settling in the cot for day sleeps and we were getting about 4-5 hour streches at night co sleeping with the view to moving him back to the cot at night to once he's a bit better at settling but now its all out the window goes for stretches feeding every hour, screams during feeds and everytime you put him down without him absolutely asleep, last night was hell and i've still got at least 4 days of antibiotics left and thats if the GP says i don't need the repeat script.
Thanks for listenting to me whinge hope everyone is getting along ok

Hi everybody! We had a good night last night. Ben went to bed easily after I read him a book and then Jared followed suit - without the book  We only got up for the one feed and then all woke up after 7am, so that was great, especially as Sunday night/Monday mornings are my toughest day with DH starting work late Sun night and finishing late this morning.
Shan, with my first son (Ben, you'll hear a lot about him in here!), I didn't ever try to get him into a routine and he sorted himself out. Apart from a bit of upheaval recently with the arrival of Jared, a holiday and moving to a new room and bed, he's generally a relaxed and very happy little man. I'm always getting comments about how placid and happy he is :) I think it has a lot to do with my relaxed attitude when he was a wee bubba, but he's also got a laid-back personality. I think that if you do what you feel is best for you and bub everything will fall into place. I disregarded all the parenting books about routines and settling and just followed Ben's lead. Feeding him when he was hungry and cuddling him to sleep until he was a much older baby. We never let him cry unattended, and we're doing the same for Jared. As I said, it works for us, but everybody is different :)
Okay, I'm off to play Thomas the train engine  Jared is sleeping happily in the Hug A Bub, I'd forgotten how much I loved this thing!!!
Hope you all have good days with your little ones :)

hi all
we have seemed to found our right time for night sleep bath n feeds for nixon,,he likes bath feed n sleep around 830pm,he generally is falling in this routine on his own, anything earlier than that and ive found i get the 7pm-midnight horror hours,we have had 3 good nights of nixons new found time(fingers crossed)i hope he sleeps tonight as he just had a big 3 hour sleep in and out of the car...
We still have middle of the night wake and feed anywhere between 130-330am,depends on last feed, tops up or nappy changes, last night he woke very hour an a half for a few minutes had a cry and i gave him a cuddle and he went back to sleep, from 2am til 6am he slept pretty good, one wake up with a poopxplosion at 3am(not good when ur half asleep and thier poop from head to toe)then he had 6am bottle, awake for an hour n back to sleep til 10am,awake til 12-12.30pm then back to sleep...
Hes still a bugger to feed, needs his early am feeds and duing the day dont like to drink a lot especially if its warm weather,he usually has between 70ml-120ml depending.
He has a bit of a heat rash or milia as the doc says, good ol sudocream works good, that and the disagreement with the johnsons products,..apart from that all good
im hoping it stays this way all week as we are going away on thurs to Lakes Entrance to the beack to stay with the inlawsa for a week..and its gonna rain!!!!!!!!might wait a week
Went to doctors today and good to know i dont have PND but the fatigue is from low blood pressure, low iron and my thyroid levels too high, that why im having probs sleeping but am tired, even though im on liquid iron ans vitamins will still take a month to kick in and dunno when ill get to see my endocrnologist for my thyroid.
rest rest rest for me,bit hard with a baby and a business but baby and me come 1st

Hi everyone - haven't been around much lately, been a busy girl. Sam is doing well, had his ECHC apt today & he is now 5kg, almost double his birth weight. Yay!!!
We don't have a routine. I just demand feed but a routine is slowly starting to emerge, we still have bad nights around twice per week but he is starting to sleep longer and at night time which is great!!! He is having his first immunisations next week - not looking forward to that because I know he is going to scream. Our main issue at the moment is nasal mucous - he hates boogies and doesn't sleep well if there is a stubborn one in there he can't sneeze out. The saline nose drops help but the boogs still give him grief.
We got our professional photographer shots back earlier in the week - sooo happy with them. He looks so cute, my walls are going to be covered in Sam pics & I am going to be broke.
DH and I have just sold our house and are preparing to move - I found my +hpt's in my bedside drawer. Is it weird I don't want to throw them away? Has anyone else kept theirs? I took a photo of them and put them in my pregnancy scrap book but I still can't get rid of them. I think because I did so many - ones and the + ones I'd got before these ones ended in m/c and throwing them away previously was always associated with immense sadness and or frustration.
Anyway - looks like he's settled. Cross fingers the cluster feeding is now over (every 2 hours since 4pm) and now he's ready for his longer sleep - at least 4 - 5 hours would be lovely!!! We'll see.
Take care - love reading what you are all up to.
-
Hi all - have been reading all your posts just haven't had time to reply...so quick one for me!
Henry is going well. Had a few nights early on when he screamed all night. Literally. Was tough! Slowly getting a bit more sleep at night. He sleeps first few hours in his cot then in with us. Don't mind - the other 2 did for a while too and seeing he's prob my last I'm going to enjoy!
He was a big boy at 10pd 2. Lost a bit of weight - couldn't have helped being in special care. Now hit 5kg. Won't be massive I don't think as my other 2 were skinny minnies.
He BFs all arvo and early evening. Last night I didn't get him down till 11. He fed from 6.30 till 11. Usually have him down about 8.30 though. He's still sussing out day and night...hopefully will get there soon!
Anyway trying to get Lucie ready for Kinder and then will take the boys into town. Life as a mum of 3 is full on!!!
Hope you are all well.....

Hi everyone. We had a crappy night last night. Leighton would not settle. Everytime I thought he would 5 mins after putting him down he was crying again. Was tough as DH had to get some sleep for work so I was trying to do it on my own. Still feel like I have no idea what I am doing. Even today I am wondering what I am meant to do with him all day. I dont want to put him down to sleep too much as I am concerned he wont sleep tonight but at the same time I dont want him to get overtired!!! :wall: I really hope I get a clue soon!
We went to the CHN yesterday for a 4 week weigh in. He is now 4.85kg. He put on almost a kilo in 2 weeks!!!!!
How is everyone going with BF? Leighton is drinking so much. I wonder how much he drinks each time as it seems like alot!
-
hi everyone,
just a quick note from me too. My little Amara is 2 weeks tommorrow - hardly believe it. She is starting to 'wake up' and during the day she has some cries - I put her in the sling and USUALLY it takes from 10 mins to 30 mins for her to get off to sleep. Night time we have a bath, feed and wrap tightly and usually a 5-6 hour stretch of sleep.
this means no TV or DVDs for a while - we just go right to sleep.
I am missing spending time with my 6 year old son - he goes to school and after school there seems little time before he goes to bed...I look forward to weekends.
BF is going well, but this is 2nd time around after a first successful time for 15 months with my first.
for all first time mums out there - yes, it is so confusing the first time around - you have to learn on the job so to speak........and I appreciate what you are all saying.
Take care of yourselves - and don't forget some time out for yourself!!
I went for a 40 min jog today!!! It was slow, but ahhhhhhh felt so good again. I felt human and normal - weird but true...
-
Just a quick one from me.
Had a great day today. Both boys slept for four hours, three hours overlapping - I had a two hour nap which was great!
Soph, I can only imagine what it's like with three. I'm trying to decide how long we wait now before #3. I guess I'll just go with the flow since it seems I can't fall pg while BFing (fell pg 1 month after Ben gave it up!).
Henry sounds like he feeds like Jared. We had a marathon 8 hour feed the other night. Thankfully days like that are few and far between for us!
Runner, it must be hard to find time with your little boy since he's at school. I feel like I don't spend as much time with Ben and he's here with me all day!
Shan, I just go with the flow with sleeps. If Jared is tired, he'll sleep and hopefully I can catch some z's too. As for BFing, we're now doing really well after a start that included cracked and bleeding nipples. My boy is a pig and drinks SO much. I've given him a few bottles of EBM and he has at least 100mls at a time when I do that. Leighton is gaining heaps of weight so he is definitely getting enough!
AJC, I hate immunisations! They get worse as they get older too. They look at you with eyes that say "Why are you doing this to me?" but luckily, it's forgotten by the time you walk out the door :)
Bon, well done on sorting out a good time for your bedtime routine! I hope you can get your health issues sorted out soon :)
Okay, gotta go. Got a squirmy bub on my lap and have to do something about dinner.
-
Hey everyone,
Caleb had his 4 week checkup today, he has put on 660 grams, grown 3.5cm around the head and grown 4.5cm in height so he has had a major growth spurt!! no wonder he has been grumpy lately, he has been working hard to become a big boy! hahaha

Hi girls!!
I'm still here!! I have been trying so hard to find the time to get online each day but every time I read through the posts and start to type, I literally have to feed again or attend to Ava. It's really hard finding the time to sit on BB nowadays and I knew that would happen anyway!
Ava is down at the moment after a nice big feed so I have some "me" time for the first time today YAY!! It's been VERY full on for us the last week..... just as I thought my BFing was going well, my nipples were just getting worse and worse and I started dreading each feed time so I started a thread in the BF section on BB 3 days ago and contacted a Lactation Consultant in my area and she saw me yesterday. She came to my house and showed me correct attachment (we've been doing it sooo wrong thanks to the MW's in hospital showing me differently!) and my nipples are on the slow road to recovery..... the pain has been a 10! Now it's about a 7 when she attaches.
Ava has still not regained enough weight to be at her birth weight and only weighs 3560g (birth weight 3660) so we are working hard to get her back to her weight and above.
I was expressing up until today to boost my milk supply as it had dropped from only feeding 4hrly and from ineffective attachment i think. Poor Ava has been so hungry and not getting quite enough :(
It's been a tough week but we are slowly getting there and I am seeing a light at the end of the tunnel with this BF. It sure has been hard but I am so determined to get it right.
The LC (lactation consultant) rings me twice a day and is seeing me again Thurs. If i had my time over again I would have had her visit me in hospital on day 2! Rather than wait 2 weeks but never mind.... better to get help now then never. I was nearly ready to give up and go to FF three days ago but I don't want to go down that path.....I am persisting through this pain and will get there!
Ava has been very unsettled during the days and hardly sleeps so it's been really hard finding any time to do anything other than hold her, rock her, and try to put her down. It's hard and can take up to 2hrs after her feed to get her to sleep and by the time she is down she is almost ready to feed again!!
I am now going to read through the last few pages to catch up!!! Just wanted to let you all know how Ava and I are going.
Hope you're all going well and not too tired (yeah right!!) and all getting plenty of support with your newborns. :grouphug:
Ava is just over 2 weeks old!! Can't believe it!!

Renstar - I am so proud of you for persisting with the Breastfeeding - you will not regret it AND it WILL get easier and totally pain free soon!! I am so so glad you got a Lactation consultant to come to see you - she sounds great.
Our little Amara is 2 weeks old today! I have been out and about at the mall yesterday and had so many ohs and ahhs about her - I carry her in my sling where ever I go and it it is a wonderful way to go - I wish I had one when my son was born! I even had a lady from school ask me if I could sell it when I was finished with it - well, she did not even introduce herself and to be honest, Amara is just 2 weeks old and I feel quite attached to it like it is part of us....
I went to Mums and Bubs yoga class today - it was so relaxing, mostly because I was lucky because Amara slept through the class...may not be so lucky next time !!

Hi everyone
Haven't been around much lately, Owen is keeping me very busy and I'm finding it a challenge to get things done some days. Seems like some of you other ladies are experiencing the same issues we are, like unsettled periods that seem to go on for ages when all they want to do is to be held or rocked and are wide awake. We had our first all nighter last weekend, where he was awake from about 10 pm until finally going to sleep at 5am, I was exhausted......
We have also had issues with my milk supply being almost non existent, so have been to a lactation day stay with lactation consultants twice now and they have me expressing a couple of times a day as well as topping him up with formula. I'm hoping I'll be able to exclusively bf him so am taking fenugreek tablets and intend to start taking Maxalon soon to increase my supply.
Hope everyone is doing well and coping with the tiredness
-
Renstar - glad to hear that the bf is getting sorted. One of my nipples is really starting to hurt and am also dreading feed time. may have to look at getting a lc to come and see me. i highly recommend a sling for settling and getting ava to sleep. leighton has been difficult to settle lately and just cries. as soon as i pop him in my sling he goes to sleep.
we had a better night last night with only a little bit of grizzling, although feel pretty tired today. dh is working long hours and it is his first week back. he just called and isnt going to be home until around 8pm.

Hi all
sounds like a few of us having sleep issues, last 2 nights nixon playing up between 730pm-130am,wont sleep, overstimulated n overtired, tonight be the same as i cant keep the squirrel awake during the day...friend says common as its a growth spurt...i hope it mends soon...also read that i gotta get him to learn to self settle without holding or rocking..pffft impossible the last 2 nyts, warm nights knock him about too..makes me feel better getting on here knowing im not the only one going thru difficulties
Tomorrow we are going to my friends to get Nixon's professional baby photos done, its a freebie as ive gotten him about 10000 bucks worth of weddings to do..Next tues we are getting his feet n hands cast in bronze, they are huge so it will be a talking point at his 21st..hehe
SHAN- im not one of these mums whos a textbook mother but ill tell u go buy these 2 books, its the baby bible and explains so much when ur frazzled n dont have a clue
book 1- PRACTICAL PARENTING-YOUR BABYS FIRST YEAR,MONTH BY MONTH. i got it in big w,recommended by friends and is sooooo informitive

im trying to buy a 2nd hand baby bjorn on ebay, eveytime i bid i damn well lose buy a dollar or sumthin....want to get one but not buy brand new,too dear
Anyway ladies good to speak to u all, keep up the posts it gets me through the tough times...
love bon
-
Well Son the routine with Tizzie only lasted two days before Craig stuffed it up and then Caleb had his huge growth spurt so we havent been able to get him back on track, in fact he only slept about a total of an hour today and yesterday was pretty much the same, i was so tired i was in tears and Craig had to come home from work today to help me cos i was exhausted by 9am. Standing over his cot patting and rocking and shushing him to sleep for 2 hours is exhausting, im not getting anything done at all! i can barely get his bottles made. And i dont want to start "accidental parenting" him with the baby bjorn or pram or car either (although when im at the end of my rope i do use them just to get him some sleep!) The only thing that keeps me going is he is still sleeping pretty much through the night.
He goes down at 7pm, we give him a dreamfeed at 10.30 he wakes at 2-2.30 for a feed and goes straight back down until morning (around 6.30-7am) so to be honest we have it pretty good for the nighttime, its just the daytime he isnt sleeping. My MHCN is sending someone over to spend the day with me, they are sleep specialists so im looking forward to that, once we get him out of being overtired and having a gassy tummy all the time we should be able to get the routine back up and running again cos it was working SO well!
anyway, my sisters due date for her baby is today but no word from her, im not gonna bug her but i cant wait to hear when my neice has been born.
well im off to bed, another early night for me!!

Hi all, you all seem to be doing so well. Fin is a dream, I'm not sure i'll say that next week when DH goes back to work, but at the moment we are having fantastic family time. Fin is fairly consistant with 4 hours between feeds and then one 5-7hr from around 9 pm. I'm slowly trying to move this to around 11pm so we get a good night sleep. It would also mean that Fin would wake up when DH needs to go to work.
I'm probably going to start as debate but have to ask. Has enyone else thought of circumsition for their little man?
I have just recieved all the info and am making my way though it. We are leaning towards getting it done.
-
Thanks Soniebin. Will try and pop out today and get them.
Well last night wasnt too bad, although already today he hasnt stopped grizzling. When he cries it sounds like he is in so much pain. I am at my wits end trying to work out how to settle him.
-
Hey everyone!
Runner - thank you  I'm so glad I'm persisting with it.... had a few tears most days mainly cos' its so damn painful with my damaged nipple! It's slowly healing.... Just wish I hadn't waited 2 weeks before calling the LC! Never mind at least I'm getting the help now. Attachment is great now just need to work on Ava's sucking. She's a bit lazy at times esp on left side. We are still topping up with EBM every day.
Happy 2 wks Amara!! That's strange a lady would say that when you only just got the sling!!!! how annoying! lol Which mall? Tweed Mall? I can't remember what suburb you are living in?
Shan - yeah we have a sling! It's fantastic! My DH just loves it and when he gets home from work he puts it straight on and wears her! It's so cute..... definitely helps settle her at times. Are you breastfeeding? We found out DD was just crying in pain cos she was so hungry!!!! We are on 3hrly feeds strictly and demand feeding if she wants it before that.
My poor nipples are so used!! I hope you get more sleep tonight its awful when they are so unsettled hey
Well, the last 24-48hrs we have a new baby!! The LC says that Ava was crying so much because she has been so hungry and not feeding effectively at the breast :( (I had no idea until few days ago!!!) so we are getting there now and she's not hungry anymore. We weighed her today and she's put on 60g in 24hrs!!! YAY YAY!!!! That's a HUGE milestone for us after everything we've been thru lately..... still not her birth weight though yet.....
Ava's been easier to settle lately and we don't think she has colic or reflux now like originally was suggested. She's not as windy either so perhaps feeding more often is helping her wind? :dunno: also we have more dirty nappies too as there was 2 days there without any!!!
Ok thats all i have time for.... sorry no personals again.... just no time! Thinking of you all and hope you are all coping okay with the tiredness.
Oh! Oh! Ava and I went on our first outing together yesterday! (to the pharmacy) and I was so nervous taking her in the car on my own etc but we did really well! It was no big deal after all that.
It's been hard not having my DH home with us during the week (he couldn't have ANY time off) and I've missed him terribly as we used to work together every day in our business!! So I just love it when he walks in the door and can help me out with Ava.
My stitches have finally dropped out and I don't recognise my own Vagina anymore!!! :crying: whaaaa!!!! And I STILL have pain in my tailbone! It must be so bruised!
Ok chat to you all later!! x
(I have a goal! To type my birth story Friday night!!! When Dh can hold Ava!)
-
Well done on taking Ava out by yourself!!! I remember when i first took Caleb out, i brought EVERYTHING wiht me, just in case haha ;) but now its so much easier, you will get more and more confident with it. You and Ava seem to be coming along nicely now, its so good to hear that she has put on some more weight.
My boy is a fatty boom boom... haha, just joking, he now weighs 4.4kg and i can feel the difference in my back!
Went and bought the book "secrets of the baby whisperer" by tracey hogg yesterday and can i say after five days of Caleb not sleeping in the daytime he is starting to settle down today. Its a fantastic tool of figuring out your baby, how to know his routine and how to take the lead with it as well. Yesterday i was exhausted and cried and cried and Craig had to come home from work to help me out because as i said it was day 5 of him just not sleeping through the day and today he has had a 1.5 hour sleep this morning and is sleeping now (going on 1.5 hours) and ive been able to have a shower and do my washing for the first time in 2 days! Im feeding him every 3.5 hours because i have now learnt how to read and tell the difference between his "hungry cry" and his "tired cry"
They also have a website that gives you all the info you need so you dont necessarily need the book, not sure if we are allowed to post these but if anyone is interested the link is Welcome to Babywhisperer Homepage
He is still sleeping pretty much through the night though which is good, after his evening bath and feed he goes down at 7pm, i give him a dreamfeed at 10.30pm, he wakes at 2-2.30am and goes straight back down to sleep and will wake up around 6.30-7pm when we start the day.
right, now for me to go and have a lie down (im so excited i get to do this today!!)

Hi Everyone,
This is my first post and I am looking forward to getting to know everyone in this group.
William was born on 27 Jan 09 by C-Section, 3.5kg (7lb 11oz), 50.5 cm in length. He has a big sister, Kate who loves her new baby brother so so much.
Nothing really out of the ordinary in our pregnancy or birth story. I had an elective C-Section for a number of reasons. I'd had one with Kate as she was breech, and although my Ob expected William to be breech also due to the shape of my uterus he seemed to like it head down. Unfortunatly, my stomach muscles didn't like being pregnant again and I ended up with the worst abdominal muscle separation that my Ob and Physio had seen (20cm). Therefore my Ob preferred to do another C-Section.
Everything with William seems to be going well at the moment, I had him weighed today and in the last week he has put on 325g, which is a huge relief as I had so much trouble BF with Kate. Now hopefully I can stop worrying if he is getting enough and just enjoy the experience! I'm sure that there will be bumps in the road, but I feel I am more informed this time round and will not be so hasty to switch to formula this time round. I will probably ask heaps of simple questions about BF babies, so please be patient with us!
The worst part for me now is all the physio and probably surgery that I have ahead of me to try and repair my abdominal muscles. This is particularly important as my job requires me to do a fitness test annually, which includes sit ups and push ups - so I need my abs together again!
I have all 2009 off work on Maternity Leave and Long Service Leave and am loving being at home with my two kiddies without the stresses of working.
That's our story at the moment, loving my family and life.

Just a quick post.....
Shellsie - Try Blessed thistle to increase supply too - I find it works better than Fenugreek. Make sure you don't get Milk THistle though. Also try the activite milkshake in the increasing milk production thread. Really works a treat! Try not to go on maxalon or motilium if you can help it - I had to with Ned (he was quite sick at 3 months and supply had dropped dramatically as he wasn't feeding) and had to stay on it until he was about 18 months.....not good!
And to all those considering buying slings (sorry baby brain!) - LOVE LOVE LOVE my hugabub and totally recommend one. It is SOOOOOOOOOOO much better than a baby bjorn in my opinion - that hurt my back big time! I also have an Ergo which I am itching to use when Henry gets to about 6 months.
Rough night again last night....H was v windy and wriggle. All fixed itself but not until about 7am when he farted like there was no tomorrow and did a big poopa
ALl 3 kids down now.....bliss.....can't expect it to last long though!
Need to get some sleep myself but there is a show on ABC about raising bubs at 8.30 and I am v keen to watch it!
-
Soph - try infants friend for wind, my MHCN recommended it and weve been using it since last night, man the wind that comes out of my boy afterwards is crazy! and hes so much more settled today!
-
Had a good run with Nixon last night,he was starting to play up and gave him a bath with some eco organic baby bath from coles.knocked him out, lights out...slept well except for 3 -4 hourly wake up for feeds..
He was a bugger to get to sleep today.up from 915 til about 1pm,then back down til 5,came home fed him he couldnt stay awake so bedtime at 7pm,now here begs the question, will he stay asleep or wake n be feral all night cos he has enough sleep, will bath him only if he tired n overcranky,i think hes aching too as he is growing quickly, poor little mite..Am trying the self settle technique,we put him down n stroke his hair n face and it works...and hes been cranky as hell!!!!!!!!!!!
Today went to my friends n got his professional photos done(funny how im a photographer and yet i went somewhere else)but u see it from a different perspective and i enjoyed it,im not getting my family portrait done now til im feeling and looking better and DH gets a haircut n colors his greys(his words not mine)
Well we are gonna do the insane thing and sell up and move, time to move from my area for a number of reasons.mainly to be closer to family and 2nd to escape the warzone/building/development/pits beside me...am gonna build again, found my house today and the area i wanna move to,i must be freakin nuts and no im not having a post-pregnancy crisis...hehe
Jo- that book sounds great, can u sms me it and where do you get it? dont worry ur not the only one sitting over the cot crying ur eyes out,i did that and still do,except mines in the middle of the night, not daytime....Nixon sleeping roughly the same as Caleb,3-4 hourly..
ANYWAY HAPPY ONE MONTH BIRTHDAY TODAY TO MY SON NIXON AND TO SHAN'S SON LLEYTON,I HAD A CRY BEFORE COS ITS GONE SO FAST AND I LOVE HIM TO BITS.
-
jo- where do u get infants friend? Nixon loves the taste of gripe water but am having probs burping him, when he does sooooo loud though
-
Sonie - just go to a pharmacy and ask for it, it costs around $10 and has an aniseed taste. Caleb HATED the gripe water and would gag and spit and make the most heinous faces with it but he takes the infants friend and all i have to do after a bottle is sit him up most times and usually before i even get to pat his back a burp comes out, its really good stuff.
I will SMS you the book details now :)
-
WOOHOO- 2 nights of self settling and working slowly,am gonna stick to it like glue, says takes about a week or so....oh yeh can someone contact me private n change my bloody ticker,i dunno how...ill give u my username n password,ok am off to challenge DH with a game of ten-pin bowling on the Wii

Welcome Meaghan! I have two little ones as well and am off work until December. I am lucky that I get 12 months on half pay, but I'm still tempted to use some of my Long Service Leave to extend that even longer. It makes it so much easier not having to worry about getting up and out the door for work each morning.
Soph, totally with you on the hug a bub. I really like how it totally supports their head too so you are totally hands free even when bending over. I ran into a girl from Ben's mothers' group today while I was wearing it and she said that the recommendation I gave her for a HAB was the best product recommendation she ever got!
Ren, good on you for persisting with Bfing. As Runner said, it WILL get easier :)
Us, we had a good night last night. Jared went down at 10:30 and didn't wake until 3am for a feed. I had a lovely sleep! Ben slept for 11 hours as well which was terrific as it was one of DH's busy nights at work which means he starts early and finishes late... ie. no help to me because he's not here!
I ventured out again this morning too. Took both boys to Big W to buy some nappies. I had Jared in the HAB and Ben walked until we got a trolley. I'm starting to think that it was a good move not to bother with a tandem stroller as Ben just isn't interested in sitting still anymore.
Jared is getting so big now, I bought Crawler nappies (Huggies) for him. I don't know if I can handle putting him in cloth until his poos settle down. I'm changing him about 10 times a day and his nappies are always either dirty or really wet. It's no wonder with the amount that he eats! He's also almost grown out of his bassinette, but I don't want to move him out of our room until he's two months old or so....that's a whole month away!
Anyway, must go do the washing up (oh the glamour!) while both boys are asleep :)

hi everyone,
Amara and I are doing well, and her big brother loves her as does Daddy so much!
the only thing I see happenning quite often with Amara is hiccups........I personally think my milk is coming down very quickly and I have quite a lot of it, and Amara tends to fuss a little and therefore taking in air too.
I usually feed lying down at nightime, but may try being in the seated position and see if that helps........also have to raise the head of her cot. Yes??
well, I have read everyone's post - and there are so tough nights and days for some of you. It is such a big learning curve.
well, I better go and try and make Jamie Oliver's Chicken Pie !! I cannot wait for the weekend!!!!!!!

Hi mummas
Mel A-sent you my username and password to change my ticker,im so blonde n dopey!!
Well last night the self settling worked again,my DH more persistant than me and its paying off,i think cos im so unwell i have less patience..Boy how the hell do i keep the nightowl awake during the day,,he just sleeps n sleeps, today he been going down every 3-4 hours then wakes for 2 hours..he woke up at 7pm ish for a feed so now keep up til 9ish and bath n bottle..he takes a good hour or so to self settle but we are persisting, has no set wake up n sleep routine during the day he just does it automatically.i dunno whether its worth implementing a set daytime one or just let him go as he does so automatic...Last night he did ok,the worst was the 2am feed, had to change his bum and that was like charging the batteries,he didnt self settle til about 4am then went back to sleep..awake at 630am and in with me and we both slept like we in a coma,i love our morning naps...He's a bugger to feed soemtimes, doesnt have a full bottle then other times wants more,am hoping he aint got a touch of colic as its usually 7pm ish he squealing and carrying on after bottle, wont relax, hes having gripe water and that helps and loves the taste, ewww i still can remember that taste from when i was a kid, hasnt changed, just now less potent and no alcohol...haha
Well tomorrow im soooo excited,my mum gets to meet her grandson for the 1st time, she suffers from bad back n hips with arthritis and cant travel for long periods,so we are off to the country to see her and my other family...i miss them heaps an wish they lived closer
Does anyone know that can you MCHN or local council offer home help with new mums who need help or are ill,im falling behind in anything from fatigue and illness and need help, cant expect DH to do it all and thought they offer something thru ur local health nurse/health centre..Also has anyone joined a mothers group in ur local area? ive asked my MCHN but havent heard a thing
p.s thanx for the ticker mel...........
cheers bon

Things have been a little unsettled in our house the last couple of days. Yesterday Max decided to feed every 2 hours, the cheeky bugger (to those of you who do this all the time - I don't know how!). Anyway, by 4pm I was exhausted and desperately needed my nap, which I had tried to have at 3 but Max didn't settle after his 2pm feed. Luckily DH came home soon after, so he was able to look after him while I slept. Only problem was, he didn't put him to bed, so when I got up Max was v v tired. He ended up not settling properly till about 11 last night! I think that's the first time we've been through that. Although, we are still quite lucky, cos even though he wasn't setlled, he doesn't cry much if we hold him.
Anyway, today has been better. Max has still been waking up 2 hours after his last feed, but I've refused to feed him till 2.5 hours after. Again, he's been pretty much ok so long as being held. Hopefully he will settle back down to 2.5-3 hours between. DH is doing the middle of the night feed for me tonight - yay! I just hope I manage to sleep through and my breasts don't get too sore and full!
Someone mentioned that their bubs hadn't had a dirty nappy for 2 days - lucky you! EVERY SINGLE time we change Max his nappy is dirty. I am starting to use my cloth supply cos I just hate the waste with disposables. The other morning I went through 3 napies in 1 one change - first he pooed on the clean one, then he weed on the next one - third time lucky and I got the nappy on. So, we're using the few MCNs I have that fit and also old-style cloth, but still only part time as I don't have enough for full time use yet. Also, at this stage I just can't be bothered dealing with cloth during the night, so think I will keep him is disposables at night for a bit. Also have ordered some more MCNs. Can't wait till they get here.
Speaking of cloth nappies - does anyone know where to get flushable nappy liners? Can you get them in shops, or are they only available online?
