Babies Born June 2006 #18

OMG both boys are asleep!!! It's been weeks since this has happened! Must be the weather... now I'm feeling kinda frantic... what can I do what can I do??? LOL First: a cuppa! It won't go cold... what luxury!

Yeah it is quiet... Mel and IK must still be enjoying coffee and a chat at their mini meetup.

Ok... gotta dash... I think I might put the kettle on then hop back on here and FINALLY design my new credit card. The ANZ sent us a brouchure a few weeks ago that said I could send them a piccy file via the internet and they would upload it and make a new plastic card with that image on it! This is totally my kinda thing! I've decided to design and stitch a piece of needlework then scan it... when you scan cross stitch it comes up sooo good... nice and clear... so I think it's gonna look great... I just have to work out a pattern... the bank said I could choose any image (obviously not naughty ones)... most people send in piccy's of their kids... I want my card to look pretty though... I'll upload my design on my site when I finish!

Morning ladies (Sorry, its now Afternoon!!)

Just been out doing all the joyful bill paying, went for a drive... was so nice in the car, kids being quiet, heater on... The kids are now asleep, so im in bed, with my laptop watching the wonderful weathre outside... its raining lightly, very overcast, beautiful weather! This is what makes me happy :)

Bath - if you have the time, i would LOVE for you to tinker with my ticker :) My look has been the same for about 18 months, the only thing that has changed is the kids...

ETA Bath - that sound great about designing your own cross stitch for your CC i have an account with ANZ and thinking about doing a nice family portrait so i always have my family with me...

Dee - what a loverly post - i really enjoyed reading it.
Rory - i have been in the same place as you...i have debated as to whether or not be a hard ass with Ally's non daytime sleeping..

i was at yoga then coffee with mothers group yesterday and ally was awake from 7am tll noon - they convinced me she needed proffessional help and to have a day stay at Trisillian...now I feel like I've been doing something wrong? There is a 4 week wait for Trisillian, but in 4 weeks I'm going away for 4 weeks... so that is 2 months of me feeling like I'm an inadequate mother...i have never felt so unsure of my skills as a Mother before...anyway..sorry to bombard the thread...

Amanda- must have been something in the air, Ally woke for feeds at 9.30pm then every 2 hours till 7am..if I refused to feed her (eg;try to rock her back to sleep she would just protest till i put her on the boob). Ahhhhh..may consider starting solids if this goes on for more than a week...

CC - as babies get older, they sleep less. Anneliese generally has one morning nap, and afternoon nap, an evening nap that she just gets up after to have a good feed and goes back to bed for the night. You are not a bad mother, i dont think you need tresillian. Is Ally sleeping well during the night, settling on her own etc etc??

We had so much hail last hour... even a couple of rumbles of thunder! it was great! just sitting here while the kids are asleep(Well, xanders laying on the couch...) eating turkish delight and drinking loads of milk!!

I bought myself a ticket to see Pink in April *YAY*!!!

Simone - thanks honey..yeah, she is a good night time sleeper, which is why I have not bothered to go before...she usually falls alseep on the boob but if not, we rock her in the hammock.. she has never put herself to sleep, it has always been either on the boob, in the hammock or in the baby carrier. She normally has 3 x 40 min (if I'm lucky) sleeps her day.... but it can take an hour or two to get her to sleep!

I'm pretty excited today as one of my good friends is moving to the area (she just bought a house near me), we are picking up the keys today... I'm so excited to have a friend here.. (and a baby sitter) DH and I have yet to go out without Ally...

Yeah, frozen rail CC LOL. We just had another lot of it here, about 6 lots (goes for about 5-10mins each time) in the last 80 mins... Plus some thunder... im in heaven!! i love this weather, and you dont see it like this perth!! But i have to go out soon, not looking forward to THAT!!

CeeCee: the mods seem to be copping a fair bit of flack lately... such a shame as they are all mums like us giving their time for free whilst taking care of their kids... I guess I couldn't face the fury of livid members if I had to delete their posts. I saw a great quote at the bottom of one of the mods sigs though lately: "Be nicer than necessary, everyone is fighting their own battles".... or something like that. That's my philosophy anyhow... always give people the benefit of the doubt. *sigh* it seems a lot of people don't share it though and lash out at the slightest provocation... not pointing the finger... just an observation from reading other threads...

Thats why i stay out of all debates now Bath - its just easier. I do my own thing, and i cant take side anyway - i bf and ff, cloth and sposies... im not much good in a debate!!! Im outta here in about 15 mins, have to go pick up a few things, and have to call my brother, just found out he was in a workplace accident... He works in a place that makes canopies for boats, and he was using an industrial sized overlocker and a thread got stuck... he tried to pull it out, and his finger got jammed in it, and he freaked and tried to pull it out. Apparently it mangled his finger a little... he's gone in for surgery. Hope his finger will be fine, he's only 17...

Bath - I didn't realise you did the avatars, they look great. When my time comes I will have to get you to do one for me. I particularly like the idea of having a slim waistline LOL!!!! Sounds like you had a great day with the kids sleeping, I think it must be the weather. Can't believe how cold it is - who would believe that summer starts in a couple of weeks.

CeeCee - don't stress. You sound like you are doing a great job. Don't ever doubt yourself as being a good mum.

Amanda - stop rubbing it in about being sweaty LOL!!!! Feels like the middle of winter here, two extremes, you are hot, we are freezing.

Simone - hope you brother and his finger are OK. Don't envy you having to go out in this weather - rug up! I am at least getting plenty of wear out of Marleys winter clothes.

I can't load them onto the site... I have to send them to AstroLady to check and load. I just modify them using Paint.

Mel - I had a GREAT time talking with you! Now that I think on it, I don't think anyone could have guessed that we'd only just met. Marley is just so cute, with her little impish smile - and flirting with my boy and all... My myotherapy appointment was very timely and Oscar gurgled to himself for most of it before the tired squealing started - DP has him now, trying to get him to sleep. I stopped in at Aldi on the way home to exchange a pack of nappies my mum bought...he's in the green packet - I don't want to believe that he's growing so big, but that's exactly what he's doing.
Haven't turned that carseat around yet - still haven't found the booklet...
Cee Cee - the last thing you want to do is measure your mothering skills against other people's opinions! Oscar will have long waking times from time to time (more often lately), but he will sleep at night, so I don't worry. Some days he will sleep, some days he won't...it has never occurred to me that we need a sleep school for him. When people ask if he sleeps through we just say yes. I don't want most people's unsolicited opinions. We've been together on BB for a long time and I have no reason to believe that you need any sort of outside help for Ally's sleeping. I think she'll find her rhythm and you'll recognise it and fall into it. The thing with 'routines' is that they change as the babies change. You are doing a stand up job, ok?
Simone - sorry I got your message so late -I was getting out of the car at Knox when I thought I should check my phone. I'm still up for Friday. If it's not too difficult (g20 and all) to make it through to the Botanical Gardens, then I would like to head out there in the case of sunny weather (actually, Mel, I was thinking that we could even get off at Richmond, and walk across to the gardens, avoiding the CBD altogether).
Ok, gotta think about dinner so we can get to training tonight - I think I'll be looking after Oscar again tonight, given that poor DP couldn't really get a decent drop into the boy last night (protesting at the pretend boob!). We'll have to practice for next week anyway, so I might try some tomorrow.

Howdy all - so proud of myself - just looked at the KMart sale catalogue on line and there is nothing I want. Not just "nothing I think I will buy" but nothing I want. Dunno what's happened to me - I even went to DFO with mothers group today and only bought lunch (ok, I bought a $10 shirt from Pumpkin Patch but that is because Mick's grandma gave me $10 to buy Flynn a pressie. Bummer is it blew away in the bag while I was packing Flynn and the pram in the car and I didn't notice till I got home. Grrr!)

I am still up for a meet up on Friday - shall we say 12noon at the clock at Melbourne Central?

Hello everyone, just back from the pool, it was lovely, not as hot or humid today, more wind around it was 38C today (got to 42C yesterday) still no rain. It was Nathan's first official swim today, I've dunked him before but he lets out a terrible high pitched scream, so funny, today I ignored his screams and just kept talking to him and he settled down but his feet and legs were curled up to his body and his hands were tight little fists, poor baby. The water was lovely though.
Arrrrgghhh Melissa just did a big poo in her swimmers, yay for me, all cleaned up now though.
Nathan is an Okay sleeper not as good as the girls all were, and he actually started out pretty good and has gotten worse, but all my own fault, I will feed him about now and put him down and he will sleep till 7 have a shower boob and bed and sleep till 11--1 and then wake feed and come to bed with me and will wake and feed anywhere between 4-6. I know I should change his sleep habits before it gets worse but he's my last baby and I like our night time snuggle, when it's all quiet. I should put him back to bed after the midnight feed and let him settle hiself back to sleep as he really only has a little whinge and I pop him on and he's back to sleep within a minute or five anyway. I'm just a big sook for him, lol

Cee Cee who are these pple, where are their degree's, if bub sleeps well at night what does it mater about how long her day time sleeps are, I really doubt she needs professional help, I am sure you have done nothing wrong, babe and you are not an inadequate mother. It really goads me when 'bizzy body i've read a book type super mums' go out of their way to put other mother's down by telling them.... argghhhh.

....Does it go a little like this "Your child is different to mine so therefore your child needs professoinal help and I read a book and been to a meeting so I know better then you" type senario.
Now in saying thaT, LOL, I've only had 5 babies and I can tell you with all sincerity that all babies are different and what works for one may not work for another. and next time you need to tell these super mums that "Ally is a great sleeper and if you can get your night time sleep what does it matter if she's awake during the day, I mean aren't we supposed to be awake during the day" Baby's sleep less as they get bigger, she may have only a couple of sleeps aday but if she sleeps at night, big deal.

It doesn't stop, does it? You'd think that after the pregnancy everyone's all 'adviced out'...but no. The only parenting book I have read, thus far, is Pinky's Parenting by Heart...and that gave me more confidence to continue just the way I am. If you haven't read it, Cee Cee, then please do! It is a long winded way of teaching you to say 'bite me' ;) As you know, I'm not averse to uttering these words...

Amanda: Seeing that wonderful dinosaur cake you made reminded me to upload DH's 40th birthday cake... I also made a berry cheesecake last Monday... geeze, I've certainly got a thing for strawberries this year! (piccys of both are under creations in my main site).

Ceecee I agree with Dee - those people sound like nutbags out to make you feel unsure of yourself. I bet Dee, in your childrearing years you have seen many a parenting fad come and go - LOL!! Personally I love to read childrearing books, but I am more into the ones about development and how the brain works than the "here is how you get a kid to sleep" kind (DH and I read em and debate em and take bits from here and there and then have Flynn throw everything out the window !!) but I would NEVER tell a mum in my mum's group that they need professional help where all they had was a different style to mine. Speaking of which, I reckon I nailed the little bugger today - read him the riot act with a nice baby massage, sleep cues, a wrap and NO NONSENSE. But that said 20 mins after "going down" he is lying in his cot, awake, sucking his dummy, looking around the room. At least he's not screaming.

Dee, do you reckon it's bad to leave a kid like that - alone in his cot, quiet but awake? It is 8.30pm. I know I am being sily but I need a mum who has had and not screwed up 5 kids to tell me that. Bath, you can join in too - please tell me he won't develop some weird ar$e nerosis.

LOL Rory: Um, well, tonight Niall had NO CHOICE but to lie in his cot alone and quietly awake... because I was too busy chasing Wade around and trying to get him to bed! He'd had that 2 hour nap today... and no outside play which has him STILL awake... but at least he's in bed now... calling out the odd silly name to Verity (she's in her bed too but they share the same end of the house). Anyway in between returning Wade to bed and saying goodnight to verity I checked in on Niall a few times and by about the 4th time he'd fallen asleep by himself. So... no... I don't think it does any harm... I actually think it's really good to allow babies and children to be left alone with their own thoughts. Rory... it's not 1984 (George Orwell's) where people thought you were strange to want to be left alone... infact wasn't it even illegal (to be alone)?! Hahaha... j/k ;)

Awww Simone: all I can say is try to turn a negative into a positive... enjoy being able to lie diagonally across the bed!!! How I love to do that! And think of me tomorrow morning at about 5am sandwiched between Niall and DH with possibly Wade in there too somewhere... feeling numb all down one side because I can't roll over because I don't like it when DH breathes in my face LOL Oh for a King size bed.... anyone got one of those???

Babies going to sleep on their own - After Anneliese has had a feed and cuddle, i wrap her, give her a dummy and put her to bed, awake. She may cry sometimes, and unwraps herself, but i go in, wrap her (without making eye contact) and leave again. i just did that then and she's now asleep. If she cry's its normally only because she's so tired.

No solids for Anneliese today, she wasnt interested like she was yesterday. Im not fussed, ill try everyday but if she doesnt want it, im not going to push. She'll eat it if she's hungry/interested :)

Bath - it IS nice laying diagonally, but i would love to have my head on dh's chest, his arm around me... Whenever the kids wake up during the night, i take them straight back to bed, i like to spread out on my side, and when ryan stays he takes up a good 2/3 of the bed, no nobody shares my side, and when dh isnt here, i do like to spread... Anneliese comes in about 4am and shares, thats about it. Xander's still awake, which is cr@p as i have to get them to daycare by 6.30am, and i have to be on cnr of victoria st and elizabeth st by 8.45am (going to have a nice calm breakfast by myself in between them!! I think Declan might be awake as well, but i dont want to check on him, might disturb him nodding off...

It was hailing again a little while ago, its just freezing outside...

ETA Im so angry, xander wandered off and got my and empty trukish delight packet... i ate hlaf a block while online this afternoon, and left the other hlaf in the fridge, and the little s**t just ate it... its the only treat i allow myself, otherwise i would spend everyday wallowing in cadbury's!!!

Oscar is STILL asleep and just now I went to the bathroom to 'squirt'...before remembering my surgery next week, so I pinched my nipple, rushed to the kitchen to grab a storage cup...and I've nearly filled it. I was quite rock hard there! I don't know why I panicked, I still have 9 of those cups, full, in the freezer. Oh, well, just in case he gets super hungry while I'm under!
Yep, it's too late to go to the fire station and Oscar is best off sleeping, given he didn't really get a chance for a decent sleep today (was out and about from the morning till abotu 5.30pm).

Oh, Mel, I was musing - we have much in common. I.e. babies born same day, same weight, we live in the same sort of area, we like the same dogs, your employer is my educator and it's even the same school in the same faculty!

Rory, I'm still rolling around laughing, I'll just compose myself okay well the jury is still out on the screw 5 kids up bit, lol they have a little ways to go before I can truely tell that one, lol But it's looking pretty good so far. No I don't think it will make them neurotic, in fact just the opposite, too much stimuli is a bad thing, they need sometime with themselves and rest assured when they want you they will let you know. Bath is right sometimes they don't have a choice, sometimes you just have to put them on the shelf so to speak. I won't go into all my parenting practices as I may invoke a heated lengthy debate as I know there are varied opinions within this realm, but I do not see a problem with leaving bub put themselves to sleep even if they are whinging a bit, believe me when I say that the world will not end if you have done everything you can do, ie bath, food, dry nappy, little cuddle and let bub put themselves to sleep. It's good practice, lol.
Simone, I'm alone tonight too, I love night shift, the whole bed to me and one, two , three babies, I can stretch out, lol DH is home around 5.30. I do get the bed to myself sometimes though, lol.

Choccies, I've been naughty tonight I have had some honey roasted nut cadbury choc tonight, hmmm and the kids asked for some, the cheek of them, I let them have a square each, lol, well theyu are big squares.

Bath - normally i hide the TD in the freezer, i like it better that way, but i just chucked it in there this afternoon, he's such a piggy... and if i remember rightly, that CHuppaChup was Verity's in the first place, wasnt it?? LOL

ETA i updated the kids websites with a couple more piccy's each - could only get about 2 new ones of declan up, he looks away from teh camera most times you take a piccy of him!! there's some great ones on there though, taken with Dh's speccy digi SLR camera... his pride and joy. LOL

OMG my legs have gone purple... better go have a hot shower to thaw out... DH at some work function... he was meant to play lawn bowls this afternoon as part of a staff party... he's quietly thrilled about the hail no doubt.

ETA: regarding that ChuppaChupp: the ownership is debatable. I suspect she purchased it with money she was meant to return to me after going down to the local IGA for some bread one day... Wade actually found it in her room... he wandered out with it and said it was near her pillow I think... so i confiscated it! When she discovered that it was gone she simply asked if Wade had been in her room... you shoulda seen her face when I presented it to her... she didn't know what to say LOL

Funny story about Cadbury's Turkish Delight. Years ago DH and I were car travelling in Tassie with another couple and we dropped by the Cadbury factory in Hobart before staying with DH's great aunt and uncle. They had a fat little corgi called Poppet - so fat it's belly brushed up on the grass as it waddled around. Because there were 4 of us we camped in the backyard with the dog and left most of our cooking/picnic gear out on the outdoor table overnight. In the morning we discovered Poppet had eaten a WHOLE KILO of Turkish Delight. Poor bugger didn't show her face that day. The funniest bit was the next night she dragged her food bowl from her kennel to the entrance to our tent, so it was there waiting for us in the morning. It was as it she was saying "Your food make me bloody sick - here, try this". PML!!

Thanks guys, I reckon the isolation ward is a good thing for The Boy too. Especially if he is going to be a big brother one day - I can hardly spend all my time rocking him to sleep when I have two or three more to contend with!

Dee - what an absolutely beautiful family you have. I'm with Rory, looking at such a big family makes we wish I had of started a bit earlier but I am still contemplating whether I should have a No 3. DH still wants 4!!!! Glad Nathan enjoyed his swim and being so hot, it probably did him good. Hard to imagine swimming when it was only 8 degrees at 10am this morning and more cold weather tomorrow. Enjoy the sunshine.

Bath - your cake was making me salivate!! They all look wonderful. You could be a cake decorator, they look so professional.

Simone - best of luck with your test tomorrow. Everything crossed for you. Don't forget to stock up on chocolate tomorrow (as a celebration for doing so well on your test!)

IK - we are pretty freaky aren't we!! It's amazing that we have so much in common, probably why we talked for so long. Glad myo went well. Hopefully you get to finish your wraps soon. Marley went to bed when I got home (3.30pm) and woke at 6pm, had her feed, then wanted to go back to bed at 7pm and is still asleep! She really needs to catch up when she hasn't had her full day sleeps (loves a snooze like her DH!!). Oscar obviously needed his snooze too.

Rory - I often let Marley go to bed awake. Sometimes she goes off quickly, but other times she will squeal and chat to herself then nod off. Or she has unwrapped herself and I do what Simone does and go in quietly, wrap back up, tuck her in and leave. Sometimes I think they enjoy a bit a quiet time with themselves (don't we all LOL!!!)

Off to make my nightly coffee (and maybe a piece of chocolate!!)

I wouldnt mind some chocolate... i dont even have a freedo/bribery stash! Finally all 3 ratbags are asleep, they were all fighting it for so long...
