Simone yeah I usually let his whimpering go as he shares a room with Kailen and Lockie, but it's when he screams that I have to get him out. Last year he was having night terrors and I don't know if this is them again.
IK I haven't taken him to the doctor yet, I have to go on Thursday to get Codys injections so if he's still doing it up till then I will be getting the doc to look at him. Lol at Rosie Posie, hope the thrush clears up quickly.
Bath can you still post the names of the books please. Both DH and I still walk around nude and go to the toilet with the door open and all the kids either have a shower with us or a bath together so we have no issues with nudity with them. With DTD we either do it at night when everyones asleep or when they are outside playing, I agree thats something kids do not need to see. When I was pg with Cody, Kailen asked me how he was going to come out and I told him from my vagina and he said alright and that was it, so it was pretty easy and it satisfied him with my answer.
Ok have to feed the boys they're going feral.
hugs xoxo

If Xander doesnt want to get out of his bed, sometimes i wil just put declan in the lounge room (i have a portacot set up in there so Anneliese gets tummy time without the boys jumping all over her!! and just chuck him, a pillow, blanket and "normie" (his toy kangaroo he loves) in and let him cry. Maybe its just a phase?? (hopefully...)

Hiya Amanda and Simone, mine are unsettled too today... too much fun on the weekend with parties etc... I'll see if I can hunt down the book that I wanted to buy for Wade... my memory's like a sieve at the moment... but it's a goodun :) How's your wrist feel today Simone? Oh and I'm glad it just turned out to be Rosie Posie LOL IK... Niall didn't have the white tongue so I think you're right with the thrush suspicion.
better get back to it... lots of clothes to hang too... lucky I didn't tumble dry them like I was almost considering this morning... sun's out :)
ETA: :) isn't it funny how your house can be in total chaos with kids screaming and crying one minute then all of a sudden peace descends! This has just occured here: Niall was screaming in his cot... Verity was moaning because she wouldn't take a multivitamin and so I refused her ice-cream...Wade was jumping up and down and ripping books ARGGH! Then just in tha last 5 minutes... Niall fell asleep after about 4 strokes upon his brow, Wade suddenly decided to go outside and play in his sand pit and Verity has gone for a lie down in her room... *loooong sigh* cuppa time... THEN washing! LOL
-
*yay* fo quiet time bath!! I have a kitchen full of dishes, 2 loads to go out, 3 loads on Anneliese's floor ready to be sorted and put away... and since this is my quiet day before the kids are home for the next 2, i really should be cleaning... ill get up soo :) Have to wash all the sheets too *sigh* the work is never ending...

Ik, I have to disgree re. bacterial colonisation of formula. the rigorous sterilising is actually more to do with the third world nations and their dirty conditions and water. I had a friend who worked in R&D, and they said it's also to protect against liability. I agree with Simone, 2 kids later, I only sterilise Ruby's bottles cause our water doesn't get hot enough. I heard the spores and bacteria are only a problem when they come into contact with water? if you've heard different that's kind of important! we tend to use up a tin in 5-8 weeks as Ruby is looked after by my mum 3 days a week.
SIMONE - I just checked out your kids' sites - omg such cuties! How beautiful is Xander?? My husband is Alexander and has the same colouring. If I get a boy I hope he looks just like Xander, and that's one of the names I really like too.
amanda3 - My nephew is 3.5 and he has night terrors still. Last night he woke at 11.15pm screaming his head off, and went for 3/4 of an hour! My poor mum, she had 4 of her grandchildren there for a sleepover! It could be teeth or any number of things, but it sounds pretty normal. Hope it's just a phase.
I had night terrors till I was about 11 really, I have a very vivid imagination. They were talking about it in another post, a night light is supposed to be very helpful?
BTW with the whole sex and awareness it's definitely parental attitude, but I think it's partly personality, my 4.5 yr old still has no idea about the difference between boys and girls. She'll strip off at a moments notice and all her dolls are always nude, I dress them but she takes all their clothes off! We don't really talk about stuff, but there's no privacy (in the bathroom) apart from DTD etc. obviously!!
 But her friend, same age was in the backseat of the car one day and announced "hey mummy I have a hole down there!" Her big sister all of 6 answered "Let me see. Mummy do I have one of those?" SOO funny.
NICKERS (and simone) - do you notice a difference in your kids' development due to being premmie? It sounds like Nixon is spot on for milestones?
-
amanda - dont get a dream baby nightlight (kmart and safeway sell them) as mine goes through globes every 2-4 weeks!! at about $6 a globe its killing me... i just put a 25w pearl globe in their lamp, perfect and cheap.
Nickel - thanks :D i like to think my kiddies are beautiful too!!i got xander from alexander, but went with the short version, because i didnt want him to be called alex.
-
Hmmm, Nickel, Sim and Neeny - I've told you all that I know on the subject, so I can comment no further! I just thought I'd add the caution that I had read so much about, but as you all use the stuff (rather then merely read about it LOL), I'll leave it up to you :) As for third world countries, the last thing they need is formula (including for reasons you stated, Nickel), but that's another discussion in another thread! You'll have to discuss the merits of sterilisation amongst yourselves from here on in, over and out
It's weird, in my family my mum had no compunction being nekked around us, but to be interested in the body in general was a bit scary for her. I think she did the best she could, given her childhood trauma and I don't begrudge her, I just know I'll be doing it differently because I dont' have that baggage. As for DTD, we wait till he is asleep or, once, we left him playing with his toys in the bedroom and we took to the loungeroom! Actually, DP is having issues with the lack of spontaneity lately and it's making him grumpy. He can't seem to grasp that I am putting out all day long (more when he leaves it all up to me) and I put out completely on my own for a week and a half when he was gone. If I keep having to pull the weight I do around here, spontaneity may be sent a postcard, cos it's a long way from coming home from its holiday! I have more mojo, but when I'm doing a lot around here, mojo gets overtaken by a touch of ggrrrrr-ness at having to wash up after him (even though he says he'll do it...if I can wait 100 years!), vacuum after him, think of most meals, and THEN be expected to be an erotic goddess! Ha! Sorry, that was a deviation. Vent over.
Well, time to clean up after lunch, get some water into me and maybe have a nap with this boy.

Ive just come back from taking Nixon to an agency. Bettina if anyone has heard of them. anyway they said they would ring tomorrow to tell us how we went but not too confident. Nixon was asleep the whole way there even when i got him out of the car, he woke up as we were walking in so was pretty quiet most of the time, he wasnt crying but was just content. anyway the chick didnt even really give him any acknowledgments no smiling at him, talking etc...... Nixon is really responive to people that look at him and talk to him but she didnt. She talked really quickly about everything (which was a lot to take in) and said read through this stuff tonight and if u have any questions ask when we call u tomorrow.....that was it!! i did ask one Q and that was we may be moving interstate but that doesnt matter cause they are in Sydney as well.... other then that she didnt give the opportunity to say "so do u have any questions"
she was a young chick, looked a bit like a model herself, she did say nixon was cute (prob says that to all of them to get ur hopes up) and that he had unique features and cute chubby cheeks
anyway guess i'll find out tomorrow.
Formula- Neeny when i was bf exclusivley i had a tin of formula for JIC also, i continued usuing it if need be after it was opened and im sure it was longer then 4 weeks. Never affected Nixon, but thats just my baby, not saying every baby would be ok with it.
Speaking of which my bf road has come to an end. Anyway i am quiet pleased with myself to get to 9months. For the last month and a half I was just bf the morning feed. but the last week or so i was having to top him up with a bottle afterwards as my milk was dwindling away. I was continuesl taking fenugreek and blackmores which didnt seem to be doing much in the end so have now stopped taking them as both bottles just finished.
Bath- i am very proud of the snowboard that u "custom made' for me!!
Nickel- everywhere we go (paed, MCHN, premmie playgroup, GP) they all tell you to go by Nixon's CORRECTED age and not his actual age. so corrected he is 7.5months. He is pretty on par with a 7month old baby i rekon. (but even in saying that milestones and babies happen over such a borad period anyway) My neice is 4 days younger then him btu she is actually 9months old, she is fairly advanced on him but i get told to always remember he is that bit behind.
when i talk to the April buddies most of their babies are doing stuff that Nixon is not. but in here he seems to be similar, I am sure Simone finds that Anneiliese is not doing what most of our babies are but more of what the August bubbies are. Depending on how prem, complications etc it can take a few years for them to catch up, I am sure Nixon will be caught up well and truely to babies of his own age within no time.
-
Nic and Nickel - I find that Anneliese is in beween these babies and the august babies. She's been rolling for a while, which some of the babies arent doing in august yet. She went on solids around the same time as some of them (she only really started in the last 2 weeks and some of them started around 5 months) I tell people she's 7.5 months, but only 5 months corrected, which is right. I dont like being told to tell people her corrected age, as thats not her age!! If she wasnt stubborn, it would be LOL! She's as big as Marley now :) so at least i know she's not one of the premmies thats going to look really small at 2 years+. She's done so well for someone they didnt expect to survive they caesar... but i still dont think i could go through it again. sorry to ramble going to finish cleaning my kitchen now!!!
-
Hi girls - thank you all for your words of encouragement. I very much appreciate it. Marley is fine today. She woke at 5.30am and grizzled for nearly an hour which was driving me nuts (she normally sleeps uninterrupted until at least 8.30am), back and forth with her, she just wanted her dummy but she has to sleep with mittens to stop her scratching herself, makes it hard to pick it up! She went back to sleep at 6.30 and slept till 9.15am! Her body and face are all clear from the rash so the steroid stuff did the trick.
Re the body discussion - Chelsea once pointed to her vagina and called it her bottom. So I corrected her and explained which was which. She knows that girls have a vagina and boys have a penis and is very happy with the explanation. She knows what breasts are but still calls them boobs. We were always told to use the correct terminology for body parts so not to confuse them. But use age appropriate language for explanations about sex, babies etc. Sometimes too much graphic info can be frightening - I think it was an episode of Dr Phil LOL!!
Nic - love the new av! It looks awesome - great job Bath! Nixon would look perfect in a Target or Kmart catalogue with those beautiful eyes and chubby cheeks! I think some of the babies they use as pretty ordinary - hope something comes up for him.
IK - glad to hear Oscar is getting over his Rosie Posie LOL!! Our babies have been in the wars this week. Pancakes are so good with lemon and sugar (I think you and I have discussed this before!).
Amanda - poor Wyatt! I have no idea what you can do, thankfully chelsea has never suffered from nightmares etc. I hope things pick up for you soon and you can get some energy back. The cake turned out awesome. It was a tricky process fitting all the pieces together but it looked beautiful. I will try to load pictures after this.
Bath - enjoy the solitude while it lasts LOL!!! And that cuppa. Chelsea has been quiet today, I think she is still tired after the party and swimming this morning. She has been outside a bit in her cubbyhouse - its beautiful outside.
Hi to anyone I've missed.
Been putting away lots of things today. My wonderful GF's weren't sure where to put things away so I have just been sorting out the cupboard and doing washing. Looking forward to an earlier night tonight. Off to check out a new dance school tonight as the one we have been with for a year is pretty hopeless and we want to move. Hopefully it good as Chelsea is so keen to start dancing again.
Thanks again for your support girls! :)
-
Sim, I've just sent off a very long email to you... as we've had difficulty sending them recently I just thought I'd let you know here. Also... I hope you know that all that I wrote come from a caring place. I just want to repeat that the definition of "supportive" is NOT just agreeing with a person and applauding their every decison. Being supportive is offering your honest opinion, no matter how hard it is to give.
Used up my computer time quota for today.... see you guys in here tomorrow :)
-
i just sent you an e mail too Simone.
LOL Mel at your friends putting things in the wrong place, its funny how only YOU know where everything goes in your kitchen etc... i rekon dh still doesnt know where half the stuff is meant to go.
Real estate came whilst we were out, left a not saying the house looks great! well im glad since all ive been doing is cleaning for the last 2 weeks lol!
yeah agree simone when people ask nixons age i only tell them his actual age, but if at docs etc then explain his corrected age also.
And in the begining i always had to explain it cause he was so little when he was 2/3m old people would say how old is he a week or two! Certainly dont get that no more!! (the girls here would prob remember me getting annoyed how everyone kept telling me how small nixon was) ha look at him now!
-
Howdy all, Flynnie has rosie posie too! Rash broke through today and confirmed suspicions with doc.
On sex and body issues : My ma was very coy about sex and basically left it up to school and books (like Everygirl) which was great, because I have NONE of her hangups. She asked me a while back where my attitudes to sex came from and I said Cosmo and Cleo hence I have no hangups (that I know of!). She was horrified!!
Better go - FIL will be here shortly (staying with us this week while he works in Melbourne) so better go make myself presentable.....
-
Nic - dont worry, i remember people asking how old Anneliese was, and the look aof shock when i would say "Oh, 12 weeks" when she was 2w corrected and things like that. She was stil tiny for her corrected age!! I hope Nixon gets some work, he's just got the most beautiful face... everytime i look at your ticker pic, he makes me smile :) I will reply in length to your email later, after the kids have gone to bed. In midst of cleaning my house out (decluttering!) thats why i've been pretty scarce. I've barely checked any forums expcept this one today!!
Bath - i will reply to your email properly later... but im not angry or anything. I asked for an opinion. There is a few things is there i think when i wrote them in here i didnt clarify properly (such as the FIL incident, and the AF talk) which i really need to explain my self properly. Im sorry i didnt do it the first time... everything i write lately sounds wrong, its not what i want to write. Theres just alot going around in my head... And just so i can make something clear?? There is absolutely NO chance of me and Ryan getting back together. None at all. Even though i am lonely, i know there's someone out there for me waiting, andone im settled, i have a good job and i've set myself up abit, i will start looking for them :) More later, washings just finished...
-
If people ask me how old Pat i I usually tell them he is a very small 7 month old baby as he was born early. He is still in 000 clothes and not trying to crawl. He sat up for a couple of minutes last night but refuses to do it again.
As for the explaining of body parts etc.... when they are old enough to understand I will tell them, but as Jack has problems its hard for me to explain anything to him. Kate understands that women are different and that we have breasts and they don't but when it comes to Tim, he wouldn't understand that stuff yet.
-
Hi all just popping through, I have read all the posts but now I am too tired to reply.
Thigns here have been hectic as usual, we had my nan's 85th Bday on Sat and last night DH and I went to the Moonlight cinemas to see Little Miss Sunshine. I was helping my best friend do her engagement party invites yesterday, Ia m so excited for her, I can't wait untill the actual wedding- I love weddings so much.
Mel- What a scary experience for you, glad to hear that Marley is ok.
IK & Rory- I hope your little men are feeling better really soon, its so tuff when your baby is sick, especially because they can't tell you exactley what is wrong.
Im so excited, Tori has started saying mum mum mum and dad dad dad, I know she doesnt really know what it means yet but melts my hear when I hear her say it (I know that pretty soon I am going to be sick of the sound of Mum.. mum.... just like I get sick of Miss, misss......) but I will enjoy it while it is still new.
Anyway I am off to bed with a good book, feeling knackered!
-
Morning all
off to keep decluttering today, im on a roll!!
Ali - sounds like you've had a lovely weekend, i used to love going to the moonlight cinema's! Gosh i missPerth so much sometimes... And thats great about Tori talking! Im tyin to teach Anneliese, but she laughs at me then babbles :)
Time for breakfast here, so i should scoot off...have a good day everyone!
-
Hello everyone,
Im so sorry i have been MIA for a while, i went to sydney to find a new car (and i did!!) and when i got home DF had used up all our free internet time (we only get 30 hours a month) by playing poker!! so i had to wait for the time to come up again and its only just come back on today! this is the first thing i did.
How is everyone? i havent read back through the posts, i think its going to take way too long to go over all of them but have i missed anything important??
Not much happening with me, Lachlan is loving his food, he is into everything now, commando crawling all over the place, i think he is going to bypass proper crawling all together, he is starting to pull himself up on things now!
No teeth yet can you believe, he has been dribbling heaps and chewing everything since about 4 months, i thought he would have cut a tooth by now for sure!
Things seem to be getting a lot easier these days, he is still waking 2-3 times per night but he goes straight back to sleep and i seem to be getting a 5 hour block of sleep some nights which is good.
We are even thinking about TTC #2 this year, maybe around June!! Who would have thought i would be saying that. I think its because everyone around me is pregnant! A friend of mine who had her baby the week after Lachlan is pregnant again!! Wowee!
Anyway girls, i hope you are all having a wonderful day, i promise i wont dissapear for that long again!!
