Rory: Yep sounds great and it's never a problem 'going public' with the boys as they (Wade) are much better behaved out-an-about then at home! LOL Niall has his 1 year MCHN checkup tomorrow morning at 9am as well (in Rosana - about 3 stops north of Eaglemont) so with a bit of luck we'll both emerge from our respective appointments and be able to do coffee... I could even wander over into the hospital cafeteria if you want... just make sure you have your mobile phone with you.
Music was great again today... both boys loved it... Niall bobs up and down to any music these days but recognises all the French ones. Music was a greater element in my pregnancy and labour... I wonder if this is why he enjoys it so much
My mother just rang: asked me why I am still BF Niall. I told her all the reasons I've read here on BB and she didn't go on to criticise me (which i felt was on the cards). Interestingly though she said that there is an excellent goat's milk formula (she is a nurse and works with babies occassionally but has branched out onto other wards recently)...but I think I might have a look for it anyhow... if Niall decides to self wean (reject me totally) then it's good to have something better than the big brands to fall back onto.... I was horrified what I read in the BB Nestle thread the other day... worth checking out.
Hmmm... some outright naughtiness to deal with... back later!
ETA: sorry tali... I meant to say hi... I wore glasses as a child and was teased but kids also said it made me look smart! LOL so I hope your little man can take it in his stride :) PML at your DH Rory: gee, the grief never ends does it LOL ;)
-
Hi Tali, great that you have an extra pair of hands to help you out with the kids!
Ok, here goes...50% off three maternity bras, woo hoo!! Turns out I have a weird cup size, so I got the E cups knowing they'll loosen up in the wash and give a bit more, to be the E and a half (not quite EE) I need them to be! I've dropped down a back size, so try finding a nice bra in my new size  Also got two Puddlesuits because MIL wants to get one for Oscar's birthday and also for his cousin's. I also bought a t-shirt that DP hasn't seen yet (and won't till Oscar turns one, hee hee!) that has 'care instructions' eg. gentle warm hand wash, Love without question, Breastfeed upon request, written on the front. It was weird being there today - the last time I was at the Mothers Direct shop it was a stinking hot day in November and I met up with Simone, Anneliese and Xander. Today it was FREEZING cold and I was on my own, having left Oscar with DP for an earlier appointment!
Bath - good one on the comebacks for your mum! My mum wishes she'd let us wean when we were babies, but went with the prevailing trend to wean by 6 months and out of a touch of regret, hasn't actually criticised me for 'still' feeding Oscar! Quite frankly, I like the excuse to stick to my comfy soft cup bras ;) Also, when Oscar decides he's not particularly into food on a given day, at least I know he's getting nutrition...he's been doing this a bit lately, dunno why.
Rory - enjoy your meet up, sounds like you're getting a bit strung out for a meet! Me too - can't wait for exams to be over...
Better make the most of hte boys being outside!

Happy birthday Lachlan & Kedon!

What a dill...
Happy Birthday to Lochie and Kedon!
I'm not really keeping track of dates lately, just trying to cram information into my brain before the 21st and 22nd - all dates before then don't exist (well, Oscar's birthday...until I need to hit the books again!). Sorry to be so forgetful of all our little ones' birthdays, it's an unhappy coincidence that my brain is elsewhere all together :(
I've put on a dinner and it will be ready to go at dinner time (as opposed to eating at 9pm...) I've been excelling myself this week with dinner making. DP has been on a bit of a downer (not going to use the 'D' word until/unless he recognises it himself) lately so I've been picking up pieces that I could otherwise leave to him. At least it's a healthy distraction to be improving my culinary skills. I've been making up meals. Last night I made a slow cook (well, the night before I made it, we ate it last night) with mushrooms, carrots, pumpkin, onion, cabbage, chopped tomato, beef stock, red wine, tomato paste, cayenne pepper (pinch), sage and oregano and, the piece de resistance, ox tongue...9 hours of cooking, and 12 odd hours of 'keep warm' on the cooker and we had a delicious meal with a bit of Honduran-style rice. I realise tongue is not everyone's cup of tea, but it's the softest meat that just falls apart when cooked for long enough. Anyway, tonight I have been a bit more adventurous and got some white fish fillets, oyster and shiitake mushrooms, carrots, zucchini, lime, sweet paprika (pinch), ginger, garlic, veg stock and full coconut cream simmering away in the oven as I type. I've left lime zest in the pot, but couldn't find any lemongrass at the local shops. Also, and I still don't know why I did this, but I felt compelled to throw in a tablespoon of honey. Couldn't tell you why, but I'll let you know the concensus later. I'm just a little proud of myself for cooking 'dishes' instead of throwing food together to get a basic food group assortment!
Today I also bought a cute beanie/hat thing that goes perfectly with a scarf/shawl that my neighbour gave me. I realised that I didn't have a lot of orange in my wardrobe, so I bought the hat to go with the scarf and my brown accessories - I had many comments today about my style as a result...not something I'm used to when I feel like crap, have a cold/headache and it's 9 degrees out (it must have only been that where I was today!)! Amazing what the right colours can do, cos the rest of my outfit was very ordinary (and I have 'dirty thigh jeans' from where I wipe my hands of Oscar's dirt...very spesh).
Bugger, Oscar has closed the door to the study and it's getting progressively colder...must go warm up again...
Hi everyone and I hope it's warmer where you are ;)

Bath it turns out my appointment is at 8.15am not 9am so I might be able to head to Rosanna station and meet you there? Either way will have my mob - can you PM/email me your number?

:confetti: Happy birthday to Lockie and Kedon :confetti:
Amanda – sounds like you had a nice birthday with a lovely pressy and card from DH – what a top chap! How’s Cody doing – hope he’s stopped being sick.
Hi Emishka – I have some unfinished cross stitch projects sitting in my old room at my parent in the UK – I’m going to ship them back here when I get over there this summer for a visit. We were in Canberra for a week while we were moving over here so James could do some work at Geoscience Australia. I had a great time there as I have a friend that had moved there and her daughter is 5 months younger than Oscar so we spent lots of time in playgrounds and coffee shops – love the playground at Manuka – shame Oscar wasn’t looking were he was going and walked into the whizzyround thing and chipped his front tooth!
IK – hi – hope you are feeling ok today and that the cramming is going well. Yay on your new bras – sound bargains. Heeeehee I always get good at cooking when I’m supposed to be revising – my houses were always the cleanest ever as well then – your dinners sound fab – can I come over!!(lol).
Bath – Glad your boobies is working better! Thanks for the info re firecracker night – that certainly makes sense. Thanks for sharing your birth story – it sounds amazing. LOL re footloose – would certainly have lightened the situ I think as it did sound scary with the doc looking for the vac machine.
Nic – Congrats at being an Aunty again. Havn’t cut Will’s hair yet though I guess it’s only a matter of time as he has this funny long bit on top that makes him look like ‘comb-over-man’ especially as it’s short at the back and sides.
Hi again Isabella – gorgeous kiddywinks (but I think you may get into trouble with having the photo on your sig as there are quit specific guidelines as to whats alowd – ooopps )
Mel – Hope Marley and Chelsea are feeling better today these colds just keep on coming don’t they.
Tali – Ouchy for the needles for Kai – don’t really blame him for kicking up a fuss – I certainly would! How’s it up in Cairns? We loved visiting up there (we lived in Townsville for over 4 years until last August/Sept). We spent Christmas 05 at the lakes resort and spa after booking it on rates to go on Christmas eve morning then driving up and it was so cheap for such a lovely place. We didn’t want to go home after 4 days so booked a further 2 days in Palm Cove in a fairly cheap and cheerful place but that was lovely too. Sorry for your 7yo needing glasses – at least they make some really nice kids ones these days so he doesn’t have to look daft like they did when I was at school.
Rory – Hope your appt goes well tomorrow.
Perth BB meet up went well yesterday, I met Mum2bee, Michelle, Sushee, Bolly and Tanby and it was really nice and all the kids behaved. We made a right mess in Glorai jeans as Will snatched my muffin and decided to make a million crumbs while eating the left overs. Then we had a little wander around the factory outlet type version of pumpkin patch which was great and I bought a couple of jumpers and a pressy for someone back in blighty. The kids then decided they really had had enough which was fair enough so we went home. We went to story time at the library this morning and they were both so good I was so proud of them. It’s funny how things go in waves – the last few week sive been having some really crappy days then this week has gone so well – bar Monday. I guess it’s just when are off colour with colds and they get so clingy that you can’t do anything so get behind with everything so feel grumpy. Anyway, hope they carry on as they have been for the past few days as they’ve been such a pleasure nearly all the time. Our house allegedly get started today – yay! Although il believe it when I see it!
Hi to everyone that ive missed, hope everyone’s good.
Julie x

HAPPY BIRTYDAY LOCKIE AND KEDON
Be back later.
hugs xoxo

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LACHLAN!
Bath - its so great that both boys enjoy music class. They must get alot of enjoyment out of it. Its a shame that people continually question why people want to keep breastfeeding. As a formual feeder, no one ever questions when I am going to "wean off" the formula and go to cows milk! Silly really and glad you came back with such a good response. Wonder what the goats milk formula is like?
Tali - its horrible when they get so upset after needles. At least its over and done with for a while now. Both my dad and I wear glasses, I had my first pair at 15, Dad at 7. My girls will probably end up with them at some point too. I hope kids are more accepting of glasses now. My GF has a 5 yo with glasses and she hasn't come across many problems. I think they look rather cute on kids
Rory - LOL about DH looking like Brains!!! I always watched Thunderbirds with my dad as a kid. Wonder how long it will be before they turn that into a movie?
IK - well done on finding a bargain, its certainly that time of year. I always said to DH that I picked good months to have kids LOL!! (January sales/June stocktake sales!!!). You are becoming such a culinary whizz! Not sure about ox tongue, but I do love ox tail, meat is delicious. Beanie sounds cool and boy do you need it at the moment, it must have been artic up in the hills today. Goes to show that accessories can really make a difference to an outfit.
Julie - glad you had a good meet. Its nice to get together with other BB girls, I know I do! I've been wanting to go to story time at our library for months, you might just inspire me to go. It makes such a difference when the kids are in good moods and well behaved. Congrats on the house getting started, what great news.
Well Marley was a bit better today, not quite as grumpy but she had moments! Chelsea was fine this morning, her cough has almost gone. She went off to kinder very excited, but the rabbits haven't opened their eyes yet. She was most disappointed! My GF rang to tell me that Freckles (kids bed linen) are having a huge sale, some stock 70% off. I just checked it out and they have some beautiful stuff. One quilt cover was reduced from $90 to $25! Well worth checking out, just googles Freckles. I might order some new linen for Marley for her birthday as I haven't seen any that cheap in other shops. My brother came for dinner tonight so I made a huge lasagne (which was delicious!) and then we had crepes with raspberry coulis and cream (also delicious!). I can't believe how cold Melb is today!!!
Rug up tonight Melb girls as its going to be another cold one! :)

Good Morning :) Loooovely misty morning here in Melbourne... Met up with Rory and Flynn for a coffee after her checkup... cancelled MCHN appointment because it was all too hard... Niall slept from 1am to nearly 8am but Wade woke me every half hour for one reason or another, mainly a dry cough keeping him awake... it's always the way... anyhow, I'm in for a nice day at home... maybe do some baking... made shortbread yesterday (image in "creations")... I think a soup is called for... loved the cooking capers going on in your kitchen IK :) minus the mammal though ;) think I need to put "slow cooker" on the priority list. Do they put out much heat IK? I don't mind things like that that do... like our bread maker: it puts out a bit of warmth that's welcome on a cold day... infact I might put a loaf on now... will go well with the soup... back after I do that...
Ok, bread on... just a basic white loaf... love the aroma when it's baking too... ahhh domestic bliss LOL
Mel: ok...gonna check out that Freckles site... I'm a sucker for nice linen! ETA: Oooh yes, very nice! I have my eye on the Farmyard quilt cover!(image in "wish list") Next time I find myself in the city: Adairs here I come! (30% off ATM) Wade has been using Verity's girly single doona covers but I think it's time he got something for himself.
Rory: Niall's shoes are Tip Toey Joey. If you can buy them for under $45 you have yourself a bargain... but they are a good investment in this cold weather... Niall has worn his all day every day since I bought them (can't remember how many) weeks ago. I'm looking to buy a new pair. Decided to stick with this brand... other mums complain of their babies pulling off their soft leather shoes but Niall hasn't pulled these off yet... so, when you're onto a good thing I guess you should stick to it... plus they have proved to be very durable. he might get another month out of these... but will need a new pair before Spring. I won't worry about shoes for Summer... there's enough hand-me-down sandals from Verity and Wade.

Waiting for MIL to come round for Oscar.
He's having a great morning! What a sunny dispositon he woke up with today. When he is like this I really curse that I need to study!
It's been a crispy clear morning here since at least 9 - living above the inversion layers in town mean that we usually lose the fog very early. Only occasionally do the inversion layers rise high enough to cover us in a winter fog all morning - just as well, we retain the damp more than in town, so it may as well be sunny! It's a beautiful deep blue sky, for the record, Bath!
The slow cooker we have actually keeps its heat inside very well. It emits steam when cooking rice or steaming (oddly enough), but other than that it remains cool enough to touch and it wouldn't even register with Oscar that it was hot if he were to get into the kitchen to touch the sides. It's a 3-in-1 number from Sunbeam and we've had it for about 2 and a half years now and it's used a lot. Lamb shanks are a favourite, but so is tongue now! Smoked ham hock is another good one. Perfect for comfort food :)
Mumzy - more about you and your family?
For the newies - Oscar is our first child, and we have two dogs (I have a horse that DP wishes I didn't have!). DP and I live around the corner from DP's mum, which is dead handy, as we all get along great. I'm also studying - which would explain my recent absences and my dropping in and missing birthdays (disgracefully!) - part time from home (not the 'easy' option, let me tell you now), and I'm a volunteer firefighter (should explain that now before it just crops up and has you confused about what I'm talking about later on). I've got exams at the end of next week and I'm studying Psychology. DP and I have been together for 4 years and we got together in part because he liked my singing, but I'm sure I had ensnared him earlier than that ;) I've also been a union delegate at work (for a major national retail chain), and I'm a member of the Womens Firefighters of Australasia Association, so if I come across as if I want to go in to bat for someone...it's probably because I really do want to! Just thought I'd give fair warning about that to you new members, as everyone else already knows my style, I'm pretty sure!
Anyway, this took ages to write - MIL has since collected the boy (he was tired, but still very upset to be leaving me...only a week to go of this!) and I've hung out some washing (under the house - if I use to outside line it will get left there till it rains, and it's not going to dry any sooner on either line cos there's no wind!). Now, back to the books...
-
IK - WOW tongue?? Never tried but I could be brave enough.....kinda makes me think or Survivor and the crazy eating challenges they have:lol:
I will give more info about me and the family...let me think, hmmmmm.....
Julie - I got my sig from a website that BB recommended so I thought it was ok....I guess they will tell me if not, it's just a ticker with Indiana's birthday countdown and a pic of the two of them......by the way ur 2 boys r very cute!!
-
Hiya Mumzy :) I agree, absolutely gorgeous children! Looking forward to hearing more about them! Do you plan on having any more?
Tickers: here's a link to the guidelines. https://www.bellybelly.com.au/forums...read.php?t=322
BB prefers tickers to be only 120 px high... You can check them by right clicking and selecting "properties"... i think yours is 250 Isabella... but just ask a mod... they are a very friendly group of mums :) I wouldn't want another member to say something about it and upset you darl :) Or worse still get an infraction notice! eeek! (check out the Announcement forum regarding those.... they are a new thing).
-
IK- so how was the honey?? Had to laugh when you said about not eating for 9pm, i have a little issue atm that MIL eats at like 5pm. She contantly starts cooking dinner anywhere between 2-4pm and therefore i never get a chance to cook cause unless cooking something that takes hrs to prepare im not starting that early. DH doesnt get home till atleast 6.30pm anyway so the dinner just sits there. some foods do not taste too nice after "just sitting there" for long periods.
I give up with this woman, i want out i hate living there.... so many issues, some probably petty but alot are real issues to any normal human being.
her 2 dogs drive us insane at the best of times (but then again my dogs are no angels) but one of them is very snappy, hates everyone exept for MIL. he has snapped at Nixon a few times when he has tried to lean, touch pat him. Because they are where ever MIL is when Nixon is with her he is around them too.
Yesterday the dog snapped at Nixon's face. I jumped up pushed the dog away and grabbed Nixon, he was crying but was not biten just shocked. I took him into his room and played with him in there to get away from them. when i came out i said to her you need to watch the dog VERY closely with Nixon because if he keeps doing that i dont want him to be around him... her comment was that the dog does it to her other grandson (2.5yrs) also. SO DOESNT THAT TELL U SOMETHING....... she never rouses on the dog when he does this, he is old and getting fragile, children do not understand this. I said to her its a matter of time before he really bites one of them and then its too late.
Nothing gets through to her, why??? but even when we dont live there any more there is still the issue of when he goes over there. ok vent over thanks for listening if u got this far!
ok went on a rant and cannot remember anything else i was going to write. Plus on my lunch break at work so better get back to it.
-
Bath - Thanks I'll have to go change it I guess if you say that, lets see how do I do this:dunno:
-
Nic: awww vent away! Sounds like a very tricky situation with your MIL's dog... I wouldn't know what to do. Priority has to be Nixon though... it must be very hard... IK might have a good suggestion.
Mumzy: There's some other ticker site like Lilypie that have tickers which you can add piccys to, like mine... and maybe start up a PhotoBucket site where we can go to check out your bigger pictures... we go to each other's all the time... you just need to ask for our passwords. You might have noticed that every time i bake a cake I put a piccy of it on my PhotoBucket site and people check them out and comment in here... I'm a bit of a show-off in that regard LOL :P But i also looove checking out all the other Junie's cakes... especially now it's birthday time for so many!
-
Nic - GRRRRRRR! I know you are like me and just love dogs, but that also means that we have a clue as to how dogs tick, and it sounds like this dog is doing its best to warn its master that it doesn't like little people around its personal space! I can definitely see how that is an issue. From what you have said, even the little things have become big enough things for you, and it just means that you are jack of the place. I can't wait for you to move out, either! Good on you for taking Nix away from everyone and giving him room to play where it's safe and with mummy, who WILL look out for his safety. My MIL can be a bit lax about Oscar eating dirt. Yeah, I can deal with little bits here and there, but I wouldn't leave him in a pile of dirt, knowing that he is just shovelling it in...there IS a difference, but sometimes I get treated like I'm being precious about him - ha! Me? Precious? If I'm getting precious about what Oscar's getting into, then it means it's cause for concern, because I'm definitely not precious about him and dirt!! Anyway, I'm angry for you :hugs:
Back to study...
ETA: just missed your post, Bath - my suggestion is probably not workable, because it would mean getting through to the MIL that the dog and small children are not compatible, and MIL here seems to think that is a furphy. Maybe videoing how the dog is around Nixon and showing it to DH and others, for what it's worth. The dog is just being itself, but it means the two shouldn't mix, where possible, because little kids who like dogs don't understand that they are not all as friendly and approachable and forgiving as their own dogs. This is my worry with Oscar - Coco has proven to be very forgiving, so between Odin and Coco, Oscar thinks all dogs will love him and put up with him!
-
ooooh that's a beautiful ticker Isabella! :) Very unique... haven't seen that one around before... I think I might have to check out that site too! And it's great you were able to use the piccy of your children too, well done! :)
-
Bath - How's this one now? I will check out LilyPie maybe there are more cute ones.
WOW you like to make cakes...cool, I'll have to check the pics out. I just recently make a Wilton Kitten cake for my girlfriend, heaps of fun! Doing cup cakes for Indy's birthday, sounded fun and different for a change from cakes.
