Thinking of all of you in Melbourne. Hope you not too close to the fires SJ.
I agree the nurofen works better for teething.
SJ Paddy now doesn't need to be rocked to sleep. I can put him in his bed and he'll usually go to sleep. I had the same problem with him screeming if I tried and didn't want to do CC. Has MJ something she uses as a comforter? Paddy has a "shay" (muslin wrap) that he likes to rub across his face.
I started trying to put him to bed awake at night. He seemed to settle faster because it was dark. I would keep my hand on him because it was mainly seperation anxiety. The next step was to stay in the room until he settled (didn't work that well but would stop him going into hysterics and I could try to resettle him). Then one day I just put him down facing away from the door, walked out, didn't close the door and he went to sleep. At night I offer him water or just a cuddle unless he's having trouble with his teeth, bf seems to soothe this.
We don't have perfect sleep by any means and sometimes they just want a cuddle. I think that sometimes I caused him more problems by hanging around. A bit like when kids first start school. The quicker the seperation the better.
Keep your chin up chicky. She'll be a teenager soon enough and you won't be able to get them out of bed ;)
-
Hope anyone in Melbourne is ok.
I was having a hard time getting Jazz back to sleep when she woke up at 5am this morning. I gave her a bottle but she was so upset. I ended up getting a cot sheet and wrapping her like I used to when she was first born. As soon as she was wrapped she instantly stopped crying and within 2 minutes was asleep! I think I'll try that again. I can't believe at 11 months she might need to be wrapped again! Cot sheets are the right size for wrapping big babies though!
I got a sewing machine yesterday. My Grandpa gave me my late Grandma's machine so I'm remembering back to year 8 home ec and sewing scrap bits of material to get used to the machine. I have a few pairs of pants that I need to hem soon.
6 days till my first wedding photography job. Can't wait!
-
I had Jesse putting himself to sleep when he was little, but the BFing makes it difficult coz he's always come into my bed after his first night feed. Now he won't go into the cot at all unless he's asleep.
i'm trying to get out of the needing boob for comfort thing, but its not easy. Boys are so clingy! The girls weren't still BF at this age, but just in general he's alot more needy for me.
I spose it doesn't help that he was never away from me at all for the first 8 months.
Anthony's on his way here. Dad's gone to get him so he can spend some time with the kids & then they are going to WA to work for a while.
All dad's idea & they had it all planned before I found out on Friday. They'll be here about 6 tonight, if not earlier.
Not sure how I feel about it yet. A bit nervouse, but wanting the kids to see him. He's staying at mum & dad's.
Hope everyones well. Got heaps to do.
Later girls!

GRRRRHHHHHHHHHHH lost my post 2 times cos i took too long to post - like a minute must be the limit now!!!
thanks for the thoughs, we are far enough away from the fires to feel safe, scry though, our camp areas have been destroyed...
If there was an arsonist in Mum and Dads area or the winds were blowing the other way, they would be gone today
Teach thanks for the infor on sleep, slowly getting a bit better, its hard though, she HATES her cot and room and its a fight for EVERY sleep
Skye GL, not sre i understand whats going on though, thinking of you
thats it as im worried i will losse the post again

Hi girls,
Hope all is well with you all and no-one is in the middle of the bushfires. Absolutely terrible :( This weather doesn't help much and I think Melb hasn't had much rain at all........
How are your bubbas? I can't believe they are all turning 1 soon - so surreal!!! Do yours sleep by themself or do you need to pat them or rock them to sleep. DJ won't get out of the habit and it is driving me nuts.... He always need to be close to go to sleep.... I need to start doing some controlled crying I think.... or something. Any suggestions or advice most welcome.
SJ - good to know you aren't anywhere near the fires.... take care in the heat hun xx can you please send me the link to the thread you started on sleeping? I am still having issues with DJ. I will try and find it though.
Danni - good luck for your wedding photo shoot I am sure you will do so well.
Prama - OMG Poopy is going to be 1 year old this Saturday - you must be excited!! on the teething, DJ goes through the same thing, it really aggrovates him he doesn't cope well with teething and neither do I haha Hope he has a better night sleep.
Teach - good routine with the sleeping I am going to try a few things to help DJ sleep by himself because even at daycare they are having to pat or rock him to sleep.
Trina - sounds like mischievous DJ as well.... he is sooooo cheeky, crawls off really quickly when he knows he is doing something he should be doing....
Skye - yeah the tantrums are starting here too. DJ throws his arms up waving them around like a bird haha
Bron - have fun up the coast with Will.
Anyway I better go and feed DJ, chat later girls. if I have missed anything big hugs
Hope all is well

Hi Girls,
Long time no speak!
I finally got back online to see what you are all up to but don't have time to go back over the pages!
On the sleep issue. As I have said in the past "Save Our Sleep" is a great book. Before we went overseas Caitlin was in a great routine but with the jetlag, 12 month injections & heatwave etc when we got back she has been out of whack. We were told by the MCHC that she would have to be "retrained" so we went back to the book and started her on the routine last week. It has been a rough few days but now she is usually asleep within 10 minutes of being put in bed. She still protests at the start but it only lasts about a minute and then she lies down and drifts off.
Hope all of the little ones are doing well and teeth aren't causing too many sleepless nights.
Jo.
-
Me thinks I better get a book and do some reading.
-
Good to see you again Jo and happy birthday to Caitlin. I hope she had a good day.
Prama, Happy birthday to Poppy for the weekend. I wont get a chance to post a birthday wish on Sat due to photographing my friend's wedding.
I'm ready to go to sleep and it's only 3:15pm.
-
OMG all these babies are turning 1!
I can't believe it!
-
thsnks danni! only a few days left!
-
hey girls,
we just noticed DJ has a black gum on the top area, and a friend said it is just because a tooth is coming through, and it has probably erupted into a cyst, which is fine, and would explain why when I have fed him his solids all day he has acted like he has had brain freeze haha I will keep an eye on it, and might just take him to the doctors tomorrow afternoon just in case :)
He only just went to sleep after being awake for 6 hours, stays awake so much longer now..... Hoping he will now just sleep right through tonight, but I doubt it. If I put him down earlier he still just wakes up around 9:30-10........
Hope you are all well.
Better go
Shell xxx
-
Hey Shell,
I hope DJ is still asleep! I haven't seen a black spot on gums before, hopefully it will be fine.
Caitlin is having a rush of teeth over the last couple of weeks and she is really not eating well. You can see that her 2 teeth on either side of her top front teeth are just below the surface so won't be long until they are through and then hopefully she will be eating better. She got weighed a couple of weeks ago and was 9.1kg's. This dropped her from 50% to 33% She has only been putting on 30g a week when she should be putting on 60g so we have to go back at 15 months for an additional check up to be on the safe side. I think it is just because she has had a growth spurt so has thinned out. In the next month I am sure she will fatten up again!
-
Hey Jo - great to hear from you again, sorry e missed caitlins Birthday, i was thinking not so long ago that it would be coming up.
Cant believe that our lives totally changed sooooo much about a year ago. Fingers crossed that she was just in the middle of a growth spurt, MJ is like that she thinns out and gets taller then chubs up again, not that there is much chub on her, she is a bit like her Dad in that side of things.
Prama - 2 days to go! OMG!!! How is work going?
Shell, Mj will wake occasionally at 10pmish, but all i do now is give her a quick pat (like 15 secs) and she is back asleep, she does the same usually at 1am and 3am and is usually up at 6.30am
I am feeling less stressed over it now and she seems to go to sleep better.
The other thing i had been doing was give her her night feed about 40mins before bed, well then there were problems, now she has a feed one side, change nappy and into sleep suit then feed other side... then we close the blinds, switch the music on and give 'ratty' a goodnight kiss and cuddle then down into the cot (awake)... quick pat on the bum, then i leave my hand on her back til she is asleep... since changing this she has gone to sleep within 2 mins of going down and NO CRYING!!! its been great, it was doing my head in her crying as soon as we were in her room or anywhere near the cot.
She is at Mums tonight so we will see how she does there, hope she goes OK, Mum will do the same thing with her but obviously bottle feed her EBM
After speaking with a few friends, i have come to accept that night waking is the norm for most babies this age, and honestly even on the days that i am working, she settles so quickly that its not really a problem... obviously it would be great not to be woken at all, but its a small price to pay IMO...
Skye - belly dancing huh??? you have prompted me, i have a belly dance DVD and i am oing to put it on right now and see what its like.
DH birthday tomorrow, her is really down about it, have made a treasure hunt for him to find his pressie!
speak soon
-
hi girls, quick one.. i'm still not well. think it';s another tummy bug. was throwing up all day yest, better today but no appetite still.. going to go to bed soon.
thanks sj - just after midnight, early morning of the 13thlast year i was having BH which turned out to be contractions later on. i went to hossy at 4pm and was told i was 1 cm dilated and went back at 9pm and was 8-9cm dilated.. cant believe it was a year ago.!!
i remember posting - "I may or may not be here' wow, it's a yr already!
going to mil's tomorrow morning to make the cake. she's baked it so we'll do the deco. hope it turns out ok.
im so worried it'll rain on sat, i suppose if it does, we'll have to cancel.. :(
sorry for no personals, will try my best tomorrow.
-
Prama - Hope everything goes well tomorrow with the birthday. Caitlin's party was on a 35oC day (the 3 days before were over 40oC so we were thankful!). It was such a crazy day! I attempted my first novelty cake and it didn't turn out too badly! It was a Giraffe - here is a link to it on my facebook page Login | Facebook - I am not sure if you will be able to see it?!
-
All the best tomorrow Prama!
I'm leaving work early today so I can spend a bit of time with Jazz and pack some things for her as she's going to Grumpy & Gran's (my parent's) for the weekend. Hopefully we'll get a good sleep tonight. Have to be on the other side of town at 10am to take photos of the bride & bridesmaids getting ready.
-
Hi girls,
You know this week is the first week I have started to feel a bit of separation anxiety for DJ. Normally I can't wait to get to work for the break. But in the last few weeks I just would prefer to stay at home and snuggle up to him or play games. He is just going through such an adorable stage and all we want to do is hug him and play with him. I haven't stopped thinking about him all morning so much so that I am thinking about his first birthday..... kehehe and when I start thinking I really start thinking. Been trying to think of a good first birthday present for him keheee not too much, just 1 big thing and few little things. We are just going to have family and very close friends over to our place on the Friday night (of his birthday) for cake and coffee and finger food. Don't want to do anything flash for his first birthday since he still doesn't know what is going on yet. I will make more of a bigger deal next year when he knows what it means :)
Ohhhhh I miss my baby boy :( *cries*
The last two nights we have been able to put him down between 7-7:30pm and he is sleeping right through. The first night he grizzled at 2am but was fine when I went in there to settle him down and then woke at 5am for bottle and back to sleep until 7:30am, then last night bed at 7:30pm then woke at 7am this morning :) I was sooo happy :) He is finally sleeping through and going to bed earlier. Now I just have to wean him off being patted and rocked to sleep because it is frustrating for the carers at daycare. He won't sleep in the cot at daycare, but just falls asleep on the cushions in the play area. When they put him down in the cot he just stands up and won't sleep. So this weekend I am working on that, have to get him out of the habit even if I find it comforrting.
Prama - all the best for tomorrow hun, it will be a wonderful day for Poopy - make sure you take heaps of photos especically of the cake. I am going to make my own cake for DJ too, not sure how I will go... .Thinking of doing a test run first....kehehe
SJ - that is great with MJ's sleeping, sounds like she is much better. I think once they hit the 11 month mark they seem to just sleep better don't they?
Danni - good luck for the wedding photography over the weekend :)
Jo - I will check out the photos. I don't think I have you as a friend on facebook so I will add you :)
Well girls, I am off to the gym so chat soon. Big hugs

Oooh Prama! One day to go!!!
So exciting!
SJ - The belly dancing was...interesting. Heaps of fun! At the end the teacher got us to lay on the floor & think about nothing for about 5 minutes with our eyes closed.........I got up with a huge headache! The only time I lay quietly with my eyes closed & think about nothing is to sleep! I don't think my head was happy to have to get up again!
I'm enrolling in a tafe course soon. I'm doing a Statement on Attainment in Medical Administration. I'm doing it through OTEN so I don't have to go to Tafe. Just need some motivation. Hopefully in 12 months I'll be finished & Jesse & I will both be ready for me to go back to work. Bri will be at school by then too.
The weather is horrible here. Raining all night & most of today. & bloody cold! I hope it goes away soon. Or Prama if you want you can send your rain here for the day, then take it back on Sunday, lol!
& its just started again!
All these birthdays! I can't believe they are all one soon!
We've all almost survived the first year!!
-
I forgot to say, I got a letter last night from the hospital next to work saying my specialist appointment for my bum issue is 24 Feb! I can't believe I got in so quickly!
Also glad my boss didn't question it when I told him I had to have 2 or 3 hours off that day to see a specialist. If he had I would have just told him it's personal anyway.
-
Danni - Good luck for the wedding tomorrow. I am sure it will all go smoothly and all the guests will be asking for your phone number!
-
thanks everyone! after so much drama, we managed to get a scout's hall up the road from us, and it's got a huge backyard too. we can still have a party and if the weather's good, we can be outdoors. such a relief!
jo - omg.. LOVE the cake!!! that's soo good!!!!
and caitlin's so so gorgeous!!! be careful of boys! lol
the feb thread girls, we all exchanged b'day cards, it was really nice.
oh and poopy made steve and me a Valentine days' card at day care!! i almost cried when i saw it.. it's got his little hand print on a heart shaped card, with pom pom ball thingies, and inside a picture of him at day care. sooo cute.. sigh!!! hehe.. makes day care worthwhile now..
thanks danni - yaay on your photo job!! you are really good, and glad you got ur appointment for your bum so quick :P
shell - they are getting more and more fun arent they!!
got pictures of cake in process but will take more tomorrow and upload them.
skye - wow belly dancing!! great for the figure!!
good onya for going back to tafe, sounds like a great course, what does it entail.
-
Good news on the venue. It looks like it is a great solution covering all bases with the weather!
I am proud of my cake effort! It turned out a lot better than I expected - I may even give one another go next year!
As for the flirtatious Miss Caitlin, she has already worked out how to get someone's attention and then reel them in - very manipulative but hilarious to watch!
-
:happybirthday:Have a greeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeat day Lakshman
-
Happy Birthday Poopy! Have an absolutely wonderful day with lots of cool pressies!
-
Hi Everyone,
It's been forever since I spoke to you all :)
First things first!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY POOPY!!!!!! :D
Jake is going well, he has 6 teeth, 4 top ones (which he got all at once over chrissy) and two bottom ones. He's been crawling since just before chrissy and is now standing up on everything and walking the furniture! He is still unsteady on his feet if you ask him to walk anywhere so I don't think he will be walking very soon :) which is good for me LOL He loves to play with the ball and throws it all the time for me.
We are going to start trying for another baby sometime in April/May which will be interesting....not all that keen on the idea but I want to get it over and done with earlier rather than later.
Other than that nothing much of interest going on, it's flooding here and we have no fresh food but we will all survive LOL
Cheers
Lisa
-
thanks everyone! despite all the hiccups, it turned out to be a great success!!!
it rained all day and so so glad we got the scout's hall.
i think all the kids had fun too. we had bought a jumping castle one ebay, new one cheap.. so the kids loved it, even the little ones. it was a rush cos we didnt manage to get all the food yesterday cos we only gt the hall at 6pm, so we were running around getting stuff the barbie. we didnt get any yest just in case we had to cancel.
anyway, lakshman was spoilt rotten, he got lots of pressies, hugs and cuddles. and he loved his cake, and trying to grab it. but when we gave him a piece he spat it out! lol
anyway, i'm going to bed soon. so so tired..
(cos he woke up at 3am teething and fever)
thansk again everyone for the wishes!
-
Sounds like Poppy had a good day. Happy birthday to him!
The wedding was fantastic! I worked my butt off for about 15 hours! Great photos, I'm really happy with them and will have one going into the Adelaide Advertiser in the next couple of weeks! I was also asked by another couple to do their wedding in October 2010!
I'm very sunburnt though. I was so busy fussing over everyone else that I forgot about me. I hope I get a tan, but I'll probably just go back to my usual shade of white as always.
-
thanks lisa and danni!
danni sounds like you've done a fantastic job! woo hoo! so proud of you!!
i just realised i have to update my ticker now .hehe
-
Hey girls,
DJ was really unsettled last night, looks like two teeth trying to come through up top, grrrrr we were up most of last night because of it, but no sign of them, just very swollen gums. So, probably another bad night grrrrr at least I don't have to work tomorrow..... I am so tired tonight though..... but have to stay up and watch So you think you can dance :)
Prama - so good to hear Poopy had a great birthday HAPPY BIRTHDAY POOPY!!! I can't wait to see the photos especially of that yummy cake. How funny that he spat it out, DJ does the same if we give him a little cake. It sounds like it all went well. YAY :)
Danni - congrats with the wedding photographer work.
Lisa - wow on getting ready for the next one!! I think there are a few wanting to start trying soon.... I am not one of them, def not ready for next one yet.... Probalby not for another 2-3 years. Let us all know when you fall pregnant though, would love to hear the good news :)
Jo - how cute on Caitlin's little manipulation, soooo cute :) xx
Skye - congrats on enrolling for tafe course, that sounds great :)
Well girls, I have to go, and change a poopy nappy.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY POOPY!!!!
Sorry its late  bit busy. Congrats on your first 12 months Prama, glad his party went well & he got spoilt!
Hope you guys are all great. Over the rain, I think we'll be flooded in tomorrow. Water was up to the road on the way home from town today & we only have one road in & out. Too high for it to flood here though :) Glad I did my shopping yesterday!
It has been raining day & night for nearly a week non stop, all though we did get 5 minutes of sun today, its raining again now!
-
thanks skye!!
and im also SO pleased w myself that I managed to bf for 12mths!!!! I can't believe it, after all that I went thru, I know it was comp feed w formula but i still did it!!! i deserve a gold star! lol.
i hope you don't get bad floods, tho if the roads are shut, the kids will be happy there's no school.
it's been raining pretty much non-stop too.
thanks shell - sorry dj was so settled, i know how you feel. poopy has been doing that for the last 3 weeks. waking up about 3am.. and crying. doesnt help his nose is congested. it's hard when having to go to work the next day. but im glad that steve wakes up w me and we take turns trying to settle him.
how did you madonna party go? gosh, you guys have the most fun-est dress up parties!!!
oh i forgot to say - both poopy's grandmother's gave him the same present!! not the same brand but the same concept toy. how funny!
-
Ha ha ha, unfortunately for the kids the water isn't gonna affect school. There is one road into the bigger towns thats probably gonna flood. We'll still be able to get around in town here. We still have a small supermarket & butcher & school & stuff :)
-
Hi Everyone,
Hope your weekends were great.
Prama - Glad everything went well with the party, you can sit back and relax now for another 12 months!
Skye - Sending you dry vibes and maybe the rain will come down our way, we could certainly do with it!
Shell - Hope you got a better nights sleep last night.
Danni - Glad the wedding went well. You'll have to give us a link when the pic goes in the paper!
Lisa - Great to hear that Jake is doing well. Congrat's on the decision to start for number to, it is definitely a difficult one. We will most likely start trying May/June, selfish reasons really as I want to play hockey again this year so if we fall pg earlier then I might not be able to play whole season!
Word of warning for those of you who had chucky babies at the start. Caitlin finally stopped chucking at around 9 months, well now that she is on cows milk she is chucking after feeds again and it is a really smelly curdled milk - not happy Jan!
-
Well I just put some pics of the water on facebook. Heard today that a car went under water in Nambucca went the river went over one of the roads into town & that some of the road washed away.
The road out of town is under from about 3 kms out, couldn't see how far it went... a good 30 metres before it went around a bend.
Dunno if Bri'll be able to go to pre school tomorrow since its in Macksville. Mum & dad's shed flooded, we had things in there too, but I don't think anything was hurt too bad....except the guernie that was 10 metres away in the paddock next door, dad only bought it last week.
Our neighbours retaining wall has been washed away, My friends house has almost flooded a few times coz of the silly back yard & the fact that there are wood chips in the garden in stead of lawn, so they block the drain. She's lucky her garage door is playing up & opened itself thismorning coz the water was all backed up in there & it let it all out before it went in the house.
Mum & dad's next door neighbour & the owner of their place got flooded. In the house. He lives in Sydney & just got here to see how bad it is inside.
Everytime the tide comes in or we get another down pour it goes up out at mum & dads. Glad we are on a hill.
Schools in Macksville were closing at around 11 coz the river was coming up & they were worried all the kids would get stuck at school.
Sun it out atm, but its sposed to rain for the next 3 or so days, if not more.
-
I've posted some photos from the wedding in the photo gallery here
