melbell I have an angel care monitor and it helps me sleep so much better. I often quickly open my eyes to see if the light is flashing durin gthe night still but it really puts my mindat ease. It definatley works as we have set it off a few times. We have an internal window that I can see the monitor through and also the portable angel that has great range.
Melinda - can relate to you on the wind issue..... DJ gets really bad wind. We find the Infacol drops work well, we did use gripe water but it didn't fix the problem. Seems everytime we give him the infacol drops before a feed he clears alot of wind. So, maybe give that a go. DJ still has alot of wind but it defintely passes after we give him the drops, he farts like crazy when I feed him now haha
Danni - I check DJ's nappy before a feed as well, and sometimes after a feed with his wind problems he farts and poos during the feed. Oh and yeah we are getting real smiles as well, such a cute smile as well, now we just need to try and capture it on camera.
I am soooo tired tonight, going to stay up and do one last breastfeed then express for 2 early morning feeds, and get hubby to feed him once for me in the early morning so I can get some sleep tonight. I could rest up now but I am at the overtired stage so just having a decaf tea to get me settled and ready to sleep haha
Oh and I remembered what the nurse said as well, she said to try and feed DJ more frequently during the day and then he will sleep more at night, so I will increase his feeds during the day so I can try and get some sleep at night keheee well it is worth a try. Tried the formula at night and he still only sleeps 3 hours. So can't wait for him to sleep for a good solid 5 hours :) Bring it on!!!
Got my contact lenses this afternoon, I decided to drive myself to optometrist, left DJ at home with hubby and it was sooooo nice to be out by myself. Feels much better wearing my lenses as well. I just won't drive too often over next two weeks, just short distances and not with DJ because the pram is too heavy.

its been bus in here so will try and remember everything...
I drink no alcohol at all, dont really see the point, planning on going out son and having a sitter, have expressed enough milk to cover when i am out plus one extra feed as i will express after drinking (if i have any) and chuck it out...
Drink about 2 cups of tea on the morning... did the same in pg.
Got my 4 week appoint tomorrow (was meant to be last week) looking forward to having Molly Jane weighed, bet she is at least 5kg!
Mothers group starts next tuesday - looking forward to that
Molly Jane's wind has settled, i gave her 5mls cooled boiled water before each feed, i then cut it down to 2.5 mls and now give her nothing or maybe on dose a day, she is not pooing as much but is farting more freely now and looks less distressed - i would definatly be using boiled water again.
We have a baby sense monitor - it is the best thing that i have bought, it doesnt have a temp sensor but we have a grobag egg which is better and it doesnt have a sound monitor either but we just bought a cheap one for when we need to use it.
I can tell you that the baby sense monitor fantastic and sooooooo good to reasure you that everything is OK. We didnt get the angelcare as we had heard that ceiling fans can trick it and we use our seiling fans alot. this is not fooled by anything!
Like Bron, if Molly Jane has been quiet for a while or i am worries, all i do is check that the light is flashing and i dont go near her, so she is not disturbed. Honestly we are so happy with it, forgotten a couple of times to switch it off and the alarm is nice and loud, but not too loud to be scary.
Getting real smiles here too and also she is turning to our voices, she has een looking for me for a while, but she now looks around to find her daddy too.
Trina, sorry, i feel so awful that i gushed about my friend arriving, I think that it is sad that people have not been to visit you. If you were closer i would be over, and we ould have a great big whinge session and tell each other how cute our girls are!!! ;)
I too feel a bit isolated, DH is working so much (although at least he comes home at night and is not travelling) that he is only home for maybe 1/2 to 1 hour before Molly jane goes to bed and then he is often back to work. Most of my friends have not been to visit, some of my closest friends too, they only live 5min drive away too.
Last 2 previous weeks were really emotional, not over Molly Jane at all which was good, in fact she helped, so i would go and pick her up when i was down. hard to explain what i was feeling, sad but not for a reason. much better this week, but only one day lest with Biz and then it is back to reality.
Nappy changing - i change in between feeds as she falls asleep after the first side. I also try and change her every 2 hours if she is awake and not demanding a feed.
I have a bit of a thing about wet nappies, probably the nurse in me.
Couple of people have said not to change her over night as it will wake her too much, but i have to to get her to have a a full feed and also i cant bare not too. The BBH are great though and combined with a liner (i use flushables) she is rarely damp on her skin (but can be a bit smell if it have been a while - like when she sleeps for 5-6hrs straight)
She she sleeps 5-6 hours i really just want to change her bum, i cant stand knowing that she is wet.
I read somewhere that when they are newborn they will wee approx every 20 mins, that time will stretch, but yeah, i dont like it at all.

Don't feel bad SJ i am so happy for you that your friend came all that way. I feel better that it isn't just me that is feeling down at times.
We might be going away end of May which will be nice, even though it is a guilt motivated gesture.... Found out not long ago that DH is going to Spain with a bunch of mates for a regatta in June..... Would be nice hey? All that money and i need a bigger car, bigger house.
Hayley i am going to the long jetty health clinic i went there with DD3 also.
Shell i have one coffee a day and a few cups of tea during the day, the same as when i was pg. I have had maybe 3 glasses of wine since i had summer, don't really feel like it too much not sure why cos i used to love the odd glass.
School hols next week, looking forward to having a bit of time off being a taxi driver to school. Going to venture to Taronga Zoo, Tahnie hasn't been so really want to take her.

I've been lurking a little and not posting, soooo tired, but its reassuring to find similar things happening with you girls and your little ones that are happening with us.
Madison has come out in shocking baby acne, I don't remember it being that bad with Piper but it isn't bothering her. But I feel bad stroking her little face and its all rough :( But I know it will get better soon.
She doesn't poo every day, maybe every 2-3 days and has gone from having very little wind problems, to having a session every day between about 6pm-9pm where she has to be held and rocked. I think she's having us on LOL because when she's being held, she'll be a little restless but does settle so the pain can't be too bad.
She is sooo alert now. We've been having smiles for a couple of weeks but now the eye contact is amazing and the responses are more predictable. Like blowing raspberries at her always elicits a smile and almost a giggle. LOL so cute.
She is also awake for longer periods during the day and feeding heaps, feels like constantly but probably more like every hour and a half - 2 hours. But each feed is only about 10 minutes so not too bad. I've tried feeding her for longer but doesn't affect the time in between so I think she's getting everything she wants at the feeds. Maybe she's just thirsty because its been quite humid here the last week or so. She sleeps ok at night with at least one period of about 4-5hours, which would be good for me if I went to sleep at the same time LOL but I like staying up and doing my thing (computer, TV etc)
I haven't had a CAFS nurse out yet to weigh her which should have happened at five weeks. Apparently they are busy but had her weighted at GP's the other day because we went with colds and she's about 4kg. So she's little but Piper was always in the 25th percentile so not worried.
Miss 3 is still acting very babyish. Its a bit frustrating when she babbles and we can't understand her. We baked some little cupcakes today and she's been a bit more like her old self so I think she'll get over it, sooner rather than later hopefully.
Prama - and anyone else feeling low, please pay attention to your feelings. I have a history of depression and have been on medication for about 9 years, including my pregnancies. Being aware of how your feeling and acting on it is the best way to stay on top of these things. The hospital we went through has mental health mid wives and I've had some contact with them to make sure I don't get PND. They've called me every two weeks just to make sure I'm ok. Luckily I haven't suffered with it with either girl so far and I think its through being aware of signs and knowing theres backup if needed. Hope things get a bit easier soon.

Jesstibb, DD3 started school this year and she did the baby talk on and off for a while, DD2 did it when she started too so i kind of knew it was fairly normal i think it is their way of coping with change, DD3 still does it sometimes when she is tired she is 5 end of June.
Summer has had a nice big sleep today i started cleaning out kids bedrooms then just gave up and bummed on the lounge and i have really enjoyed it, just have to finish with the mess i have made in their rooms. I hate sheet washing day, too many beds to make up and geez bunk beds are a nightmare!!!!!!

Poopy is giving lots of smiles lately, some so big he crinkles his nose! ohh that baby turns me into jelly. i cant help kissing him all over! Sometimes I cant believe that beautiful baby is all mine!(and DH's of cos!)
Jesstibb - I am having one of those super frequent feeding days with DJ as well, it is quite warm today in Sydney so maybe that is why as well. Hoping that will mean a longer sleep tonight (one can only hope). He has just been so unsettled and won't get full sleeps, just hungry all of the time, I think next time I might just try cooled boiled water instead to see if that helps him.
SJ - the cooled boiled water - are you warming it up, or just giving it to Molly Jane cooled? sorry to hear you have been feeling sad sweetie, it can get like that, I go through spurts of that as well, but for me it is because I am just overtired. Your visit from your best friend would have sured cheered you up though ;)
Trina - ahhhh I would love DJ to have a nice long sleep. I bet it would have been nice to get stuff done around the house. Our bedroom looks like a bomb hit it grrrrr

DJ hasn't stopped feeding today, really feeling like a daisy cow today milking him haha I just gave him a feed of 5 mins and that seemed to have settled him for sleep hopefully he can sleep for 3 hours to give me some rest time. Haven't had a chance to rest this afternoon. I did get some sleep this morning - badly needed it.

Been out most of the morning/early afternoon with Jazz. Got her hand and feet casts done. Now just have to get a photo organised to go with the casts and then pick it all up in about 4 weeks. She was really good today. I took a bottle with me because I thought she might get a bit hungry while I was in the queue at the rego department...I was right!
Had to say goodbye today, there were loads of tears... DH was great and told me that if we can, we will save up so we can visit next year and meet her new bubs... i wonder if i will go over there pg like she did!
Shell - i didnt warm up the water, just had it at room temp.
Molly Jane found her hands this week and sucks her fingers, i wonder if she is going to be a thumb sucker like her mummy use to be
Appointment this morning, Molly Jane is now 4.865kg, HC 37 and height 56.5cm and is doing all the right things.
She has a small red birth mark that has devloped on her thigh and i was told it may get raised and quite large over the next 2 years (its called a heamangioma for those who are interested) and then slowly disappear.
Also i have to take her to the GP next week as although her hips moved fine, her bum cheek folds are not in alignment and she has a fork in the crease above her bum crack (sorry there is not really any other way to discribe it!) which could indicate a problem.
Other than that the nurse was impressed with me and how well i am doing. Also she is expecting and she loved the BBH and we had a massive chat about them!

No Prama ask away hun im feeling better, must be some hormones still lurking... Lakshman is so cute love the new pics no wonder you can't stop kissing him.
Shell i just give it at room temp also (the water that is!) i give it to her in the evening after her dose of Donnalix and she has been so much more settled, apparently donnalix is an anti spasmodic so must help with the cramping side to wind but with the water am finding it works better. Sumz has been really awake during the day and wanting to feed really frequently i think it could be the wind taking up room in her tummy and when it moves through she is hungry again an hour or so later, she had a good couple of sleeps today which is the first time this week.
SJ must have been sad to say goodbye, it gives you something nice to look forward to next year travelling OS. Summer and Molly Jane are almost exactly the same weight/measurements Summer's head was 36cm when she was born ouch!! Paige had really uneven creases too, they were really freaking me out saying that she might need surgery but she is fine, every crease from her butt to her knees were all out and they thought one leg may be longer than the other.

I am going to go back to the gym full steam ahead next week gotta start eating better too. I feel so lethargic and so bloated and just yuck, BF does not help me lose weight unfortunately if anything i can put on weight as i had not much of an appetite during pg and now i am constantly hungry, probably from being tired and being at home more always makes you walk to the cupboard/fridge.

james has been a little bit more settled the last 2 days, has times when he seems to be in pain with it but not as much, he still likes to feed every 3 hours at night, havent got any of those long stretches some of you girls are getting !
welcome Beatrix ! i still have a little bleeding, enough to wear a panty liner each day, its so annoying now ! and it is still bright red and times but no gushes.

Hi Beatrix. Congrats on your baby girl! My bub is nearly 4 weeks and I am still spotting (can go up to 6 weeks is that right?). I would be a little concerned about gushes. I'm pretty sure it should be slimy/mucusy and not bright. I'd get checked just to make sure nothing was wrong, but that's just me.:

Thanks for the posts re: sticky eye. I thought Cam's sticky right eye had improved (he hasn't had it in the past couple of days), but this morning it's back and his right eye is quite gunky. But, as he's still feeding well and isn't running a temp, I'm going to continue cleansing it with saltwater and putting a little EBM in his eye afterwards. I don't want to rush off to the GP and be prescribed antibiotics if it will eventually clear up on its own.
Cam is now BFing most of his feeds, although I express at least one or two bottles a day so (a) daddy can give him a feed and (b) so he continues to be happy to feed from a bottle. For the most part we've got BFing sorted out, although he sometimes still takes a while to latch on and gets cranky. It always amuses me how, when he's getting ready to latch on, he opens his mouth wide and moves his head from side to side really quickly (obviously trying to find the nipple). Can anyone relate?
Poos - I'm still changing approx 3 pooey nappies per day.
Wind - Not sure if Cam suffers bad wind, but occasionally he's an unhappy chappy and I blame wind. He farts like a trooper though, so at least he's getting rid of most of it.
Sleep - Ususally he sleeps for 2-3 hours during the day, and he can sleep for up to 4 or slightly more hours during the night. Mind you, last night was a bit of a mess ... he fed at 2am, and from about 3.30am onwards has refused to settle. Thought he'd sleep after a feed at 5am, but he's still been a bit unsettled. I'm blaming wind, for lack of there being any other obvious cause.
Slings/carriers - I've got a babybjorn but not particularly confident with wearing it yet (as bub's only now just big enough to sit in it). My sister raves about her sling, as do some of you gals. Sounds like it might be a good alternative to the carrier.
Bleeding - I'm down to a very light discharge. I only had heavy bleeding for about 3 days and I wish I'd known that post partum bleeding (for me, anyway) would be quite light as while pregnant I purchased quite a few packs of maternity pads (including the yucky matress-size variety) ... and they're now sitting in my cupboard unusued.
Monitors - DH and I have an Angel Care monitor. It works well, although we can't have the parent monitor in our bedroom as it's too close to Cam's bedroom (and the monitors need to be several metres away from each other, otherwise there's bad static on the parent monitor. However, as Cam is in the bedroom next to ours we can hear him very clearly. Our parent monitor is in our kitchen/lounge area.
A comment about baby change rooms at airports etc. What is the go with stinky baby change rooms where mums are expecting to sit and BF amid the stink??? Was at Bris airport picking up my parents the other day and Cam needed a change. Thank God I didn't need to BF him as the smell in the change room was atrocious ... I doubt the nappy bins had been emptied in some time. It was just yuck and it was the quickest change I could manage (which says something given Cam did a 'poo shooter' while I was changing him and I had to change his nappy twice. Thankfully the change rooms at my local shopping complex are better!! I kinda get that it is hard to keep the air 'clean' in these rooms, but I don't think there's any excuse for the nap bins not to be regularly emptied. Hmmm, enough of my rant!
Hope those of you who have been teary and/or emotional are feeling better and ditto to anyone who is going through difficulties with their bubs re: BFing/sleeping etc.
OK, Cam is still a bit unsettled and is now fussing. He's probably after another feed so I'd better go see what's up.

DJ is nice and settled this morning and I have been able to do a few things around the house and sit down and relax Yipeeeee hopefully he will get a few good sleeps today.
Andie - re: breastfeedintg - DJ does the same thing, he moves his head from side to side and has conversations with my breasts it is funny but also frustrating because it can take him a good 2-5 mins to latch on and properly suck. Even when he is sucking he is still making loud noises. Hence why i won't breastfeed in public haha too embarrassing haha
Trina - the infacol drops seem to be working for DJ, I did see the Donnalix drops in chemist and almost bought them. It seems to settle, just have to continue with Infacol drops. Hopefully soon he won't need as much. Oh and on weight, I feel the same way, I can't wait to exercise again (2 more weeks to go !!!) feel bloated and all I ever do is eat!!! so hungry!!!
SJ - fingers crossed for you so you can go over to see your friend next year :)
How long are you all b/f on each breast?? yesterday I breastfed 20 mins on each side and then he was still hungry so did another 10 on each, then still unsettled and needed another 5 mins arghhhh Mind you this morning he only needed 10 mins on each side.

well what a crappy night we had last night.
Millana decided she wanted to feed every 2hrs!!! omg i am so tired. but it was only the second really unsettled night we have had since coming home.
I have the midwife coming out this morning to weigh her as they were a bit worried as she wasnt back up to birth weight at 2 weeks.
We are breast feeding well here, great attachemnt but she takes for ever to feed. like 45min-1hr.
slowly getting quicker.
Andie- Millana is the same gets to excited trying to latch on and ends up taking forever.
When I was pregnant, my hair was great and I had hardly any fall out, now it's falling out all over the place. Anyone else experiencing that?
Danni: it hasnt happened to me this time yet but with my DD my hair started falling out in large amounts from about 6 weeks post partum, it was everywhere and lasted for ages too ! heaps and heaps would come out in the shower and the vacuum cleaner would get clogged with it all over the carpet too !

I was watching this program on ch7 yest afternoon about pg actresses/models. apparently they have c-sects plus liposuction at the same time! too posh to push!
went to mums and bubs yoga, it's the furthest i've driven by myself. it's really challenging, feeding bub, packing 500things, looking for the closest parking spot. yoga was ok... lakshman was the youngest bub there. he was well behaved except at the start, he was crying, then found out it was a wet nappy. i got a bit panicky why he was crying esp since it interuppted the class. but later other babies were getting restless, then i realised it was ok!
shell - hills yoga was ok, i might go try the concord yoga on thurs. but i think i will go for Ness' class on monday. i so need to loose weight!
oh i keep forgetting to say - those using MCNs, i use a polar microfleece liner with the inserts. I bought 1m and then cut it up. it helps keep bub dry.
Beatrix, i was getting fairly big gushes about the same time as you, i thought it was all finished and was only wearing a thin panty liner when i was out one day and it gushed out so had to literally run to the bathroom oops!! I bled for the full 6 weeks with the others and fully finished around 2.5 weeks. They say if it is really bright blood not dark or large clots or a smell then call the hossy.

Andie, Summer keeps getting her yucky eye back now and again, the wipes clear it up straight away though.
Prama, i was watching that show too, it was nice to hear that I am doing the right thing by my Princess by focusing on her and not going nuts losing weight, but the time has come to start to budge it i have been eating pretty badly way too much chocky and bread. Have walked to the school twice today and going to start at the gym tomorrow the first week or two might be a bit tiring my butt will thank me though hehehe
Danni i have had hair loss with each girl either when pg or after, both is very normal.

Hi all.
Does anyone else have trouble keeping their bub awake during the day? Flynn sleeps a lot during the day. He might have one or 2 really awake periods during the day. but often he will want to go right back to sleep after his feed. Then when he wakes up for a feed at 3am ish he will NOT go back to sleep for about 2-2 1/2 hrs. IS THIS NORMAL and I just have to suck it up? It is driving me nuts. He's not hungry I just fed him, he's been burped, had a little sick, had a cuddle, being cuddled, done a nappy, more cuddles, but still fusses and cries. I can't handle it so I start crying and make DH deal with it but I feel bad cos DH is not getting enough sleep cos he is not getting home from work until 2.30am and then I hand him a crying baby.... Does anyone have ANY suggestions?? I am really struggling.
Catherine- are you bf or bottle??? either way possibly offering another feed may be a option.
I know my DD likes to cluster feed sometimes.
With regards to the waking periods. My DD has about to longish waking periods a day but they are during the day so i cant help you there. Maybe try and wake him during the day.
Try stimulating him during the day to keep him awake more, then he might sleep better at night. The only thing is that until he gets used to it, he might get over tired and then it will be harder to get him to settle.
I'm starting to find with Jazz that she's wanting to spend a bit more time interracting during the day now, I think it's good that she's wanting to spend more time getting to know me. She likes to spend more time in my arms just looking at me. I'm glad I have the sling now coz then I can "hold" her when she wants me to.
I've made an appointment to get my implanon put in on Monday. Until a couple of weeks before I gave birth, I'd completely forgotten about the whole contraception thing.
Regarding poo: Jazz is starting to have less pooie nappies now, and when she does poo, they usually aren't as big any more. However, she does do a lot more farts now than when she was pooing all the time.
Yesterday I gave her a bath, I don't want to bath her every day because I've been told that can dry out the skin, so I bath her every second day. However, I had to bath her twice yesterday. Once during the day, then when we got home from the shopping centre last night she spewed up an entire bottle worth of milk all over herself, so I had to give her another bath.
But it worked out well, I fed her again straight after the bath, then she went to sleep (at 10pm) and didn't wake up again until 2:30am.
all girls: im in kariong, have lived on the coast for nearly 4 years and i work at gosford hospital.
Catherine: James is also very sleepy during the day, just wants to feed and go straight back to sleep, he get so mad if i try and keep him awake, just screams ! unfortunately i can't help you with the night thing as although he wakes 3rd hourly for feeds overnight he isn't unsettled for any long periods

Catherine your bub is just sorting out the difference between night and day. With my DD she thought 3.30 was when the day started! As she got older she worked it out but NO amount of interference on my part would alter her sleeping pattern. At about 4 months she started to get it together but didn't sleep through till 9 months. She's 15 and still an early riser (well for a teenager)
Just a quick question from a first time mum here... Lila seams to only get upset and cry when she seams to have wind. She stiffens her legs straight and arches her back then kicks her legs. Would this be lower wind?. It seams to be the only time she really gets upset and I am wondering if she is actually a very placid little thing and this is the only thing that gets her upset, or is his the behaviour of any baby who is upset, no matter what the reason.
Girls, I am so tired and just can't keep up with you all! :) I just wanted to post for AndiE about sticky eye. Benji had sticky eye for the first 9 months! Given he wasn't BF so we were just cleaning it with saline/boiled water but it lasted a LOOOOONG time! His was also said to be a blocked tear duct and it eventually got better over time as he grew. As you say if it's not causing a temp or anything I wouldn't worry, all you can do is just keep cleaning it. Hope that helps.

KANDA - i reckon that it is lower wind. Molly Jane does this too, she rarely cres at anything else either... i think she has just started to squawk when she wants a cuddle, but from what i have heard this is not a bad baby thing, they actualy really need the cuddle, not just want it if that makes sense.
TRINA - thats a big head!!! you poor thing
re the bleeding. mine stoped a week and a bit ago, but this would be different to VB girls bleeding.
re the sticky eye, my god daughter (who left yesterday :() is 11 months old and still gets sticky eye occasionally due to a blocked tear duct, they just keep it clean and massage under the eye gently. It doesnt seem to bother her.
I have noticed some really big changes in Molly Jane this week.
- real smiles at us when she recognises us.
- laughing at her mobile
-sucking her hands for comfort
- more alert during the day stays awake longer and take interest in more things around her
I am sure there are more, but we are not picking everything up... she certianly is deveolping a little personality thou.
I was saying to DH i feel like i could eat her, i mean she is just so yummy (not in a cannibalistic way :lol:) when i kiss her head i nible, with my lips, mmmmmm i am so in love with her (sorry guys!!!)

SJ - hehe i know what you mean. i love the smell from the top of his head, that baby smell, it's so intoxicating.. he likes it when i kiss his itty bitty nose.

his good routine of sleeping from 11pm to 5am is gone! he's waking up in the middle of the night now. just when you think you have it down pat.. sigh!
Yeah we had a good thing going, but with friends being here it has sort of stuffed up a bit...

Prama you mentioned about the liners... did you do anything with the edges? i am using flushable ones at the mo, but would like to swap and only use the flusables for outings.
What should i get?
How are you doing with the nappies, you got BBH too didnt you?
SJ- with fleece liners you dont need to do anything, just cut up the fleece as easy as that. just go to spolt light and get 1/2 metre of micro or polar fleece and you will be set
I use cloth too.
I also love the baby smell and want to nibble Millana!!!
Kanda- most babies do get discomfort from wind, most times it displayed by arcging and bringing their legs up to their tummy. does she have trouble brining her wind up after feeding??? if you want to try a natural product to help i used infants friend with all my children and it worked fantastic.
he he i can just imagine all our babies with little nibbles out of them, like a chocolate :lol:

Beatrix, what type of nappies do you use? will give the liners ago, then have to switch to something for cleaning as i feel really guilty as i plough through the wipes.
maybe face washers? what is everyone else using? Heard that camomile tea is great to wet the cloth... any suggestions?
I mainly stick to BBH. cheap and easy.
I do have some home made ones and will prefolds with fleece covers too.
With wipes you can make your own as well, i cant remember what with but i am going to look into making mine as well, will prob be using one side flanette and one side terry towlling from spot light (which in thinner then normal terry)
No sure about what to use as the solution, have you looked at the nappy cino site i am sure that will have suggestions
sj - i use bbhs too, the fitted ones. with the polar microfleece i got 1m at Spotlight. It was less than $10. I cut them up 12cm x 20cm. BBH recommend between 12-13cm x 20-23cm
Setting up a modern cloth system. You dont need to do anything with the edges. They are great, they seem dry when you take a wet nappy off. I wash them all together w the nappies every 2 days.
Going out so far we;ve used disposables unfortunately. I've got Eenee Weenes pants and pads which I should make use of more often. the pants are like disposable nappies and you insert pads that look like sanitary pads. they are flushable but we toss them in the bin. It;s biodegradable.
I know i feel guily using wipes like nobody's business. I;m reluctant to use something reusable for poo.. mainly cos it's a bit gross. But ive read girls using chux cloth and then dipping in water with sorbolene cream to wipe bub's bottom. but at the rate they pee now, that's a lot of cloth too. but i suppose you could wash the cloth after each use and then maybe not have to wait till they are 100% dry cos you're going to dip them in water again?

At the hospital we use face washers to clean poo and wee from adults, they all get washed and then returned, i guess that is more gross as the next week you could be using the same one on someones face that was used the week before to clean poo - THAT is why i dont use facewashers in hospital when i am in!!! it meets the cleaning standards though.
I wonder if you could use the fleece as a cleaner too - i could buy one colour for liners and one colour for washers... humm
I use BBH when i am out, i actually have not used a disposable yet!
The AIO's are better for nappy bags thou, but less absorbent. we went out for the day and Molly did 2 poos and so i had to carry them with me, i take shopping plastic bags with me so just pop them in there, i did consider rinsing them under the tap in the change room, but figured i would do it when i got home!
Think i am going to check out the cloth nappy thread for ideas.
DH and DSS have just set up the activity dome for Molly, they insisted on hanging all the toys on it even though she cant play with it.
Oh and DSS is now picking her up and carrying her very carefully - a huge step for him and he is soooooo proud of himself (for those who dont know us well is 10 and only with us every other weekend). he also spent 20 mins playing with her and got the most amazing smiles from her. i got the v.camera out of course!!!
right off to hang washing and do the cleaning that DH promised to do 2 hours ago grrrrh
