Thanks Nat, I will look out for them.
Who's going to look after Em while you work Nat? Shame you had to go back so early (or am I being presumptive nad you want to?).
Kellee I love the zoo too! Great for little kids AND big kids. Can't wait til Darcy's a bit more alert to go. The smiling is cool. And even though I'm not that competitive shall we say, it's kinda gratifying that everyone else tries and tries to make them smile and then they just look at mummy and grin and laugh....
Not much doing this weekend. Went out for dinner last night and off to mums tonight. Darcy was so tired she slept until 8.45. We're definitley in a routine and if you stuff her around she gets a bit worn out.
Jess, hope Pat's home this weekend.
Hello again all. Hope you’re having a lovely day with your bubbas. Bit quiet in here today…
Kim – hee hee hee… yes, it’s good when MUMMY gets the smiles. Hey, we’re the ones who put in the nine months of hard work and then had to go through labour. We deserve it! Did you have a nice time at dinner last night? Was it just you and DH? Hope you have a good time tonight at your mum’s.
Hey, who was it who asked about the one indispensable baby item that we have? Well, mine is decaffeinated coffee! I used to be a coffee addict before I became pg with Charlie, and I still would be, but I drink decaf as a placebo – it seems to help me feel more awake even though it’s not really doing anything. We’re coffee snobs here – we grind the beans ourselves and make it in espresso machines on the stove. Lucky DH gets to have the real deal, but if I have some we’ll never get any sleep!
I hate the weather here. When I decide that I’m going to laze around like an oaf and do nothing we have a drought and as soon as I make up my mind to exercise like a demon and lose this weight it rains! Not that I’m not appreciative of the rain, but you know what I mean. Luckily we missed the rain on our walk this morning but I bet it will rain for the next 11 weeks and I won’t be able to fit into my bridesmaid’s dress! We were supposed to go to the Roma St Parklands for a family reunion today (MIL’s extended family) but they had to cancel it because of the rain unfortunately. It would have been nice to show Toby off and Charlie would have had such a great time, but I’m sure it will be rescheduled. We went over to MIL’s for lunch anyway, which was nice, and she didn’t do anything with Charlie that annoyed me either which was a bonus! We’re going to try and take it easy for the next week as it’s DH’s last week of holidays. I’ve got my six week check up on Tuesday and Charlie will have his (belated) 18 month jabs. I’ve got a rehearsal on Friday and gig on Saturday night, then DH is having one of his pieces performed by a latin band in the Spiegeltent as part of the Brisbane Festival and then his holidays are over! So I suppose it’s fairly busy after all despite our best intentions. I’ll miss him when he goes back.
Toby had a shocker last night – he woke up around 12 with terrible wind pain, we settled him for half an hour, then he slept another hour and was in pain again. We didn’t think it was fair for him to have to go through the pain on his own so we popped him in with us but he was so restless for the whole night that none of us got any sleep anyway. The poor little guy. He self-settles so well when he’s not in pain – I wish that there was something we could do to help him. I have been avoiding green veggies (a couple of bad nights happened to be nights that I ate quite a few of them) and all the usual stuff, and we give him Infant’s Friend regularly, which has some effect, but for the most part all we can do is rock him on our knees, with him lying on his tummy, until it passes. I’m sure he’ll grow out of it – it’s not the lack of sleep that I mind so much, it’s that there’s not much I can do for him. Toby’s really started to develop a personality over the last few days and we’ve been getting heaps of smiles and some fabulous happy noises. I forgot how cute this stage was! He’s outgrown his 000 Bonds suits too because he’s quite long (his dad is 6”).
Gosh, sorry, I’m really rambling today! Sorry about that. I won’t be offended if you didn’t read the whole thing! Just passing the time on the downstairs computer until one of my three loads of washing finishes. Better get back to it – hope you all have a lovely weekend.
Can someone remind me what sleep is? I missed out on most of mine last night. Not happy!
Took us until 11:30 to get Jovi to have her last bottle then she decided that she was too sore and had tummy pains to go to sleep. I chucked a major wobbily after her screaming for half an hour, getting her to sleep and putting her in her bed only to have her wake up screaming straight away again. Had to palm her straight off to DH before I lost it.
Ended up dragging the spare mattress to the loungeroom, got her to sleep there and just lied her down with me gently and hugged her. She woke me up a few more times during the night and we got up at 7:30. I think I got about 2-3 hours sleep ... grrrr ...
She's been a little whingy today, not as bad, but this teething business is hopeless!
We took her to the Dr's this morning as I thought she's been a bit more snuffly that usual and couldn't tell if she was just wheezy in the nose or also in the chest. She's fine ...
The Dr reckoned we should give her anything for her teething! OMG! I would die if we didn't give her panodol when she gets really bad ... will be good when she's old enough to have bonjella etc.
Not long till I go back to work FULLTIME ... back on the 1st August. Lots of petty crap going on there at the moment apparently between some of the so called senior members and the ones that actual do the work down in the lower rungs. From what I hear it basically boils down to harrassment. They better be prepared for a sleep deprived mother who has more things to worry about ... I might be venting on here a bit soon. LOL
Can someone recommend anything for constipation in babies? Cooper is doing a poo only every 2 or 3 days and when he does it is hard. He screams in pain when he is trying to go, and cant always go. I feel so sad for him. I dont know what to give him or if there is even anything he can have.
Alison ~ Apparently brown sugar in warm boiled water does the trick Alison. Also Vic suggested something a few pages back that you can buy from the chemist as well. I will try and find it for you and let you know what it is called.
Kim ~ I don't really want to go back to work but it will be nice for the extra money. Because I'm casual at this position I could only take 3 months off so to keep the job I need to go back. I really want to keep the job as I'm hoping to go back to studying next year rather then working full time. And it will be a good job to have whilst I study. Glad to hear that Darcy has settled into a routine. Em's shots really messed him about and he's still all over the place!
Kellee ~ Your new avatar looks great!!! And you are going to be fine for the wedding I promise!!! You'll look hot LOL!! I hope you enjoy DH's last week of holidays. I hope Toby gets over that pain soon. Its hard when you can't help them isn't it? I love the smiles and happy noises - they are just adorable!!
Beck ~ OMG @ going back full time so soon. How are you feeling about it? One of the girls in our mothers group went back to work a few days a week because she couldn't handle it at home. Damn about the bad night as well. The other day Em slept for 3 hrs in the day and then stayed awake for alot of the night - which was not fun LOL!!
I need a little advice ladies... Em has never been a big drinker or a fast one either... he barely has 720mls a day when according to the tin he should now be having 900mls. Should I be worried? I demand feed but I'm wondering whether I should try and set 4 hourly feeds and establish a routine with him? Is it too early for this? Any ides/suggestions... I'm going to get him weighed again tomorrow to see what his weight gain is like. I'm quite happy to go on the way we are I'm just a little worried thats all.
We had a great day today! I went shopping in the sales and got 4 new tops, a necklace and a Playskool Tummytime Gym for $80. And I finally got my new monitor!! The one I'm using now is a 17" flat screen that I borrowed - my new one is 19" and I got it nice and cheap too and well under my budget so I'm very excited lol. The only 'problem' as such is that all my stuff is black and this screen is silver...but I think its silver and black and the keyboard and mouse are silver and black so it may match in??? Now I just have to set it up!!!So you can guess what I'll de doing at some stage tonight!! Hmmm not much else to report. I'll go and try to find that name now Alison!
ETA ~ Alison they are called coloxyl drops and you apparently put them in their bottle. I can't remember if you are BF or FF... but Vic also said that the formula could be the reason for the constipation. HTH's!
Lea ~ definately get Em weighed and i'm sure that will put your mind at ease if he is not crying and totally unsettled then he must be taking what he needs
Alison ~ yep coloxyl drops my first 2 kids had to have them in every bottle just about s 26 played havox witht their little bowels hope it settles for you both soon
Beck ~ full time i don't know if i could pull that off with out a live in nanny atm good on you
Kellee ~ i to have a wedding in september maybe we can motivate each other ( i need some tuff love ) i wanted to lose 10-12 kgs 12 i would be over the moon
Kim ` Ryan is the same if you muck with his routine you certainly know about it .
well i'm off to bed i finished my ebay listings early tonight so i'm going to crash talk to you all later
Thanks Nat. You are sooo helpful :) I will look into them now.Oh, and I bought Cooper two of those cute hats today, a blue one and a white one. Havent seen it on him yet as I got him to sleep when I got home and he has been there since...waiting waiting waiting!!! I left him with Tony for 3 hours! And of course came home to one very tired baby who hadnt been to bed.Men!!!
Hi Girls,
Wow so many posts to catch up on since my last post...please forgive me if I miss anyone.
Well I have had an eventful couple of days....firstly my DH injured himself at work, he has his arm in a sling so is pretty useless at the moment....although tonight he managed to make home made pizzas with one hand. He has to get clearance from the doctor before he can return to work. He says he can't wait to go back to work, God He CAN'T WAIT....nor can I (lol) Then last night I had Phoebe up at Emergency at the hospital. Her voice had become quite croaky and it sounded like she was coming down with something. She was really unsettled, would only sleep little cat naps and only in my arms...I would put her in her rocker and she would wake in minutes. Her feeding became quite erratic and she started to become frustrated and cry and then start to scream. By about 7.30pm I just didn't know what to do for her. She seemed to have a slight weeze and had a blueish tinge around her mouth. My DH stayed home with our son and I took off to the hospital. Half way there and not a house insight the car started die, it dropped from 100 to 80km/h in seconds...I couldn't believe it and of course I started to panic, I had left without my mobile, someone must have been watching over us as the car managed to get us there (thank god). Well I won't go into much detail, but Phoebe is fine now, no need for a stay in hospital. I have had a virus and unfortunately she has got it. I couldn't believe it, once we arrived at the hospital and the nurse started checking her over she was laying on the bed smiling, very happy and content. She was making a liar out of me.(LOL) The doctor said it was better to be safe than sorry, especially with all the viruses going around atm and having a baby so young it is better to have it checked out.
Lea ~ as long as Em is gaining weight don't panic too much. The table on the formula can is there as a guide only...babies will take as much as they want no matter how big or small. Em just might benefit from spacing his feeds to every 4 hours. I had to do that with Phoebe because she became fussy and unsettled when she didn't have a nice big feed. By the time the next feed came along (I was nice and full) she was hungry and would always be content and satisfied afterwards.
Scrappy ~ Phoebe is the same, she likes routine, a nice predictable pattern...makes her a much happier and content baby and I think that by her having a good daytime pattern, this is why she is such a good night time sleeper. (9-11 hrs staight)
Delta ~ unfortunately I can't recommend anything for you go give Cooper, but I found my son only go constipated when he went from BF to FF. When he was having trouble I would lay him on his back on his change table and rock his knees back and forth. Up to his chest and down again, and when he really began to push, I would push his knees towards his chest and hold them there. I have also heard, but never tried was massaging the pressure point on their feet. Rubbing and pushing your thumb into the arch part of their foot. There are too types of formula, I will get some more details and post it for everyone who doesn't know have a read....There is Whey dominant and Casin dominant formulas (i think that is how they are spelt) Casin dominant formula uses a heavier curd and so it takes longer to digest, I have also heard that it is good for larger weight gains (where needed), but increases constipation. The whey dominant formula (which is the one that I used for my son by Karicare) uses a lighter curd and doesn't sit as long in their little tummys and there is less chance of constipation with this one. Please don't quote me on this, I will get some more info.
Baby Crazy ~ When my son was teething, I was told by a doctor that he didn't believe that teething was painful for babies WTF??? My son would ALWAYS have a temperature, runny nose and runny poos when ever he was cutting a tooth and the doctor said that it was a virus, that teething doesn't cause symptoms like that. He doesn't have any children, so I don't think that he knows what he is talking about.
Kellee ~ good luck with your gig tonight....hope it goes well for you.
God I'm finally finished, did it all with one hand....I now have cramp. I bet a heap of posts from you guys will come up once I have put this one in seeing as it has taken so long for me to do.
Take care...enjoy the rest of the weekend. X
Alison - I agree about the brown sugar. You can either put it in water, or in milk (expressed or formula). Only a little is needed. Jovi was constipated once when I was bf'ing and I just expressed a little, mixed in a bit of brown sugar and a couple of hours later ... PRESTO! Infant's Friend (available at the chemist) is also really good for constipation (and teething and wind etc)
Lea - I'm actually looking forward to going back to work ... bit more contact with people I think (no matter how unpleasant it may be with a few of them!). I will certainly miss being with Jovi all the time, however at the most, I will only be away from her about 3.5 hours at a time and being in the public service we have flexible working hours. For the most part, she SHOULD be sleeping while I'm at work anyway. But at least I finish work at 4:30 and it's only a 5 minute drive home so I will still get lots of time with her. Plus we need the money! lol
Regarding worrying about if Em is getting enough ... just look at what Jovi has put on and she's usually drinking between 600-750mL a day. The tin is really a guideline. Em will tell you if he's hungry and wants more and as long as he continues to put on weight then he will be fine. Jovi generally has a feed every 3-4 hours and has been like this since I put her on the bottle. Sometimes I have to start feeding her when she's asleep, but if she doesn't stick to her schedule, then she puts us out, particularly late at night (when you might want to go to bed at 10:30 and if she goes too long between feeds we end up with a bottle closer to 12 ... no thanks!). He's certainly not too little to get into a feeding schedule.
Shazz - I have a live in nanny ... my DH! lol
Mummy - Yeah, the dr we saw today basically said the same thing about no pain ... ummm, well then why do they scream and cry about it! (wasn't our usual dr, just the one on call). Jovi has the ear pulling, rubbing eyes, lots of dribble, profuse chewing of hands and just generally unhappy and lots of screaming and crying when its bad. She decided that she would try chewing my finger tonight ... she liked it for about 3 seconds then changed her mind and screamed for half and hour ... not fun and the panodol is almost gone!
hi Girls... hope you're all having a great weekend.
I mentioned before that I had been selected by A current Affair for the story on sleepless babies - but I had to cancel as I was in hospital with Shaun. But they phoned me when we got out of hospital to see if I was still intersted in doing the story - of course I was !!!
So for the last two nights (and again tonight) we have had a night vision camera in our bedroom (because shaun sleeps in a basinette in our room). And Shaun has been putting on an acadamy award performance. How small do they make tuxedos??... as I'm sure he will get nominated for an oscar or at least a logie for best dramatic performance!!!
Has anyones kids discovered their hands lately? Shaun has been sucking on his fingers all the time. It looks like he's hungry... but he' not. He does it straight after feeds, in between feeds... it gets very confusing, as we confuse it for his hunger sign and heat up a bottle - then he's not interested in it. He's just found his fingers and thinks its fun to put them in his mouth.
Another thing we found indespensible was the bath seat that we put into the baby bath. It fits in & is moulded, so we don't have to hold him in the water. He sits in it, and uses his legs to push against the end of the bath and push himself up the seat (so cute). It leaves our hands free to wash his hair and play with him. Last night he discovered that if he kicks his legs really hard he can splash daddy with the bath water!
Went shopping at Kmart today, and the clothes are so cheap! I got lots of tops and a two pair of jeans - as I'm sick of wearing maternity pants (still) and I definately don't fit into my pre-pregnancy pants. I put on a LOT of weight with this pregnancy. It's a shame as I had lost quite a bit of weight prior to getting pregnant. Oh well, I'll just have to get back onto the weight loss wagon again and work my butt off. But I'm not too fussed, and hubby doesn't seem bothered either. I bought a boxing bag & gloves today (real cheap at Kmart). It was a small bag, and when I got home hubby said I should buy the big bag. I thought he would be annoyed that I bought it at all (yet another piece of gym equipment that will gather dust!).... so I was surprised that he suggested the bigger bag! I love boxing. And I have all the other bits of gym equipment I need.... better put them to use. Maybe next week....???
Thanks for all the replies about constipation. I am going to get either coloxyl or infants friend and give that a go. When I changed Coopers nappy during his feed tonight, I gave him some nappy free time and while I was waiting, I massaged his feet and tummy and he pooped. YAY!!! It was still hard but I felt relieved for him. He didnt strain or cry or anything, so that was a plus. Hopefully I will be able to give him some relief soon. They are so little and innocent, I hate not being able to help him.
Anyway, off to bed for some sleep...thanks again, the support and information here is fantastic. I knew I could count on you girls. :grouphug: hehe
Alison ~ No probs sweety. I hope it helps. LOL about coming home to a tired baby! How did you feel leaving him for that long? DP has had Em for 3 or 4 hours as well and I normally cope fine. Though I remember one time just sitting and waiting for him to bring Em home (as he had gone out) and I was at the car door before he even stopped the car LOL. You will have to load up a pic with Cooper in his hat - I am terrible I have about 15 or so different hats LOL... Its so cold here atm so Em wears them all the time. I have ones to match all his different outfits LOL!
Jodie ~ Sounds like you had a great time in Kmart. The boxing gear sounds fabulous as well - someone is going to be exercising hard soon... LOL! That is great that you still get to do the story. I can't wait to watch it - it'll be fantastic LOL I can brag to all my friends hehe! More importantly you will get some help which I remember you saying that you wanted. You've got me thinking about the bath seat thing. Em is about to graduate into the big bath which is going to be painful on my back to hold him the whole time. Where did you get yours from and do you use it in a normal bath? Its sounds sooo much easier then holding him the whole time. I have a seat for when he is able to sit but not anything for now.
Mummy ~ I'm so sorry to hear about Phoebe being unwell - it is better to be safe then sorry re going to emergency though. EEEK @ your car - that would have freaked me out! I hope your DH gets better soon too the poor thing! Though his pizzas sound nice hehe! LOL @ TWOH (typing with one hand) - I for once have 2 as Em is asleep (Where I should be LOL)
Baby_Crazy05 ~ Glad to hear that the brown sugar and water worked for you! I almost didn't believe it when the midwife told me! It sounds as though you've got a great situation to go back to work in (despite the petty stuff going on!) and I'm sure DH will be a great SAHD!! The extra money will be great for me as well when I go back next Sunday.
Thanks so much for the advice guys. I think I'm just going to have him weighed regularly and try to structure his feeding a bit more and see how he goes. His night feed and morning feed work in really well with 4 hourly feeds during the day - but he's just not doing them so I will start trying this week and will possibly be a little MIA as I think he might be a bit put out at first! I might be joining the gym as well - depends on how much it costs and whether I'll be able to make enough visits to make it worth it. Its exciting though! I should be in bed... I'm just having so much fun staring at my new 19" monitor hehe - its so pretty LOL... hrmmmm I think its time for bed!! Night ladies!
Nat, Darcy's been on four hourly feeds since the word go. She always seems to get herself back on the right times. I feed her when she cries and that if she's happy to go longer, I don't worry too much. She always drinks all that I have.
Poor Pheobe! Hope she's sorted herself. She's usually so content isn't she?
Jodie, you'll have to let us know when it's on! Hope you wore nice jammies! LOL
Kellee, dinner was great and have the added bonus of being able to put Darcy in a cot at mums so able to relax myself (once I told the big boys off for being too noisy).
I'm a fan of coloxyl too. It's part of every nurses kit and it works a treat.
Speaking of pooing. Darcy has been (until this week) still doing 2-3 poos a day. All of a sudden she hasn't been and her farts absolutley reek. I mean worse than DH and that's saying something. Do you think I should be worried? She doesn't seem upset, her poos are still runny when she does them either once day or every couple of days. I know they do go down to one a day, but she was so regular and then it just stopped for a couple of days. It did sorta coinside with the food poisoning, but not really.
Who asked about hands? Darcy had discovered hers too and most stuff goes in her mouth. She even discovered that they can work to pick stuff up! Her newest discovery is her feet and she spends ages staring at her toes! Oh the wonder of exploration!
Sorry for being MIA.
Alison, constipated meaning hard to get out but they are still soft?????? Poor little Cooper. I use Infants friend and that works a treat! Although I am so sick of giving Lachie medication, he knows how to sit it in the back of his throat and spit it out now!
Wow this is TMI, sorry gals, but we for the first time in 11.5 mths DTD, OMG, how patient is my man! Mainly due to all my problems during pregnancy though, we just couldn't bear to see any more bleeding. I did help him out though to IYKWIM, and also my recovery from caesar as you know was horrific, so again no Sex.
It felt really strange HEHE. Sorry for sharing thought you all woudn't mind, seeing as we all tell each other everything.
I am just up and down all the time. My boy hasn't been sleeping very well lately at all (he is back to the early days after birth), and it is really taking its toll on me, and he won't attach to my boob, having to express all the time. Think it is from the medication, as he won't feed directly after it and sometimes all day, one day I had to express all day, but he is getting better. I was giving him his medicine in a medicine dummy but now I am just syringing it in to save the confusion. But really god only knows, he has a mind of his own, one day you think it is this and the next it is different. Seeing a lactation consultant on Tuesday hopefully she can give me sum tips! Lachie has also had a rash on his face and the more he rubs it the worse it gets! Went to the hospital as it was getting bad, she recommended paw paw ointment, so that seems to be clearing it up slowly!
Well I finally got him down for a sleep today after sooo many attempts, put the basinette in the cot, think it is about time he starts to be a big boy and stop sleeping in bed with mummy and daddy. Need to slowly ween him into the process. Slowly does it I guess!
Gosh who ever said this motherhood was easy! Shoot them please!!!!!!
Well today I've tried spacing his feeds out - it kind of goes as follows:
8.30 - 90mls
11.00 - 90mls
3.00 - 90mls
So today he is spaced quite well but only having half of what he is meant to at each feed?!!?!? I haven't dragged the times out at all so I'm not sure what is going on. I will come in later today and let you all know what he has tonight.
Ohhh he's waking up - will come back and do personals later!
HELLO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes it's been a long time!! But here i am. So as some of you might know i had a little girl on the 5 june. Her names is Briley Jean Harvey. After 8 hours labour and an hour pushing she made her entrance at 1.21pm. She weighed 8 pound 3 and measured 51cm. She is absolutely beautiful. She is a pretty good baby. She wakes around 2-3 times a night for her feeds. I was breastfeeding but thought she was'nt getting enough so i decided to bottle feed her aswell. She is happy as larry!!
So i will probably have to be updated on a few things if thats ok. I did'nt go back and read previous posts, it would have taken me a week!! I hope that everyone is having a good time in motherhood. I am really enjoying it. Did'nt even go through the "Baby Blues". I did'nt really have time i suppose. We had Brent's family up and staying with us a day after i got home. I had a few problems trying to breastfeed her as she just would'nt latch on and every feed i had to have a midwife there. I stayed only 2 nights and was kicked out because they needed the bed!!!! Once home i got the hang of it though.
I am in the process of putting my birth story in birth stories so if you all would like, go and have a read!! Not many of you have put yours on there though i noticed. Must be busy bee's hey!!
Anyways i will be back. PROMISE!!!;)
Talk to you soon
Sara
lea13 - you were asking about a bath seat, and a friend gave me our one. It fits perfectly into the little baby baths... but we will have an issue when he outgrows the baby bath. We have a huge spa bath, so I have bought a little blow up swimming pool to put inside the spa so that we don't have to fill the spa up each time.
But I saw the best thing on eBay today!!! check this item out : 160009750595 (paste that number into the 'search' at the top of eBay.com.au
I've never seen a baby bath like that - and I think it's unreal!! If I had a 'normal bath' I would definately be getting one of those! It's in melbourne, and I've won some other auctions from this woman, so I could ask where she got it.
But I've got one like this auction item: 300010538624 which fits into baby baths. I could go into normal baths as well as it has suction caps on the bottom, but you would still have to bend over to wash your baby.
I just saw this listing... item: 290007759917 which is really cool if you had to use a normal bath and bend over. I've never seen anything like that before.
I think eBay is a good place to pick up bath seats, or one of those big baby places. You don't use these items for long, and as they are plastic you can give them a good scrub & disinfect if you buy 2nd hand.
And Scrappyfish.... I was so nervous about wearing jammies (which I don't normally wear) - that I left my bra & top on, and wore light weight track pants instead! Mind you, I didn't go to bed until 2.30am...
Kim ~ LOL @ Darcy discovering her feet!! Em has discovered his little fists and loves staring at them.
Sheree ~ YAY for DTD!!!! You can tell us anything girl LOL!!! And no motherhood is not easy – even with good little babies like Em. Being by myself its so hard to get even half a second to myself – I’m on the go ALL the time… I hope Lachies rash clears up soon!
Sara ~ Congrats again on the birth of Briley. I have posted in your birth story as well. Sounds as though you are doing really well. Hopefully we’ll see more of you around here??
Jodie ~ Thanks so much for those links. I think I like the one that you have – I think it would still work well in the big bath and would be great in the little bath while it still fits. I have a seat for the bath as well but it won’t be any good until he can sit by himself.
I am so tired folks so I’m off to bed in a minute. From his last feed Em had a 120ml bottle and then 50mls of another bottle so all up only 440mls… no where near the 700 or so he should at least be on. I tried a faster flow teat and he cried and cried and then threw everything all up any way. I will record what he has again tomorrow and see how we go. I’m off to bed folks… correction I’m going to finish sterilizing bottles then I’m off to bed….
Hi girls, hope everyone is well & enjoyed the weekend.
Talking about baby baths, I have an all in one bath and change table, when Phoebe out grows that or when she can sit up by herself I have the next size up (unfortunately this doesn't fit where the small bath goes)so i put it up on a bench, washing machine (so I don't have to bend over)...this bath was big enough until my son was one and then into a big bath or the shower.
Lea ~ if Em was happy and content with just 90 mls then that's fine. Good job with spacing his feeds. You are definately on the right track. Everyday is a new day, so just repeat the process and persist. Establishing a good day time pattern can eventually down the track mean a good nights sleep for everyone. After the age of 4mnths, most babies like to know what is up next and like routine and their days to be predictable.
Sara ~ welcome back.....congratulations on birth of Briley Jean. Looking forward to reading Briley's birth story. Do you do both BF & FF would love to here how you go with both.
Jodie ~ Your an ebay fan as well. I purchase a lot of scrapbooking stuff, but always searching around for a bargain or two.
Sheree ~ Woo Hoo....don't apologise, if that's what you need to chat about then we are all ears aren't we girls!!
Scrappy ~ thanks, yes Phoebe is back to her happy and content little self...Sounds like everything is going well with you and Darcy. Don't be concerned too much about no poo for a few days. BF babies have been known to go a week. As long as she isn't being bothered by it, then don't let it bother you.
Delta ~ how is Cooper going?? Any more improvements?? It is terrible when they are in pain, quite often you can feel so helpless. Hope this bout of constipation doesn't hang around long.
Sorry to anyone I have missed....Take Care X
Mummy ~ I'm getting roughly 8 and a half hours sleep each night out of Em which is great. He has taken to waking up 3/4 of the way through the night and I just pop the dummy back in and he goes straight back to sleep.
Vic ~ Thanks for the advice re his feeding. I am getting him weighed today just to make sure that he gaining and then I will continue to go with the flow I think. I didn't think Em would like it in the shower with me but now that you've mentioned it I might give it a go.
Well girls I am due for lunch somewhere at 12 and I haven't even showered yet so I better get a wriggle on! I'm having lunch at Snakes and Ladders which should be good as I've never been there before. I'm getting Em weighed while I'm out and I'm also going to buy a different teat (yet again) just to make sure he isn't just a lazy feeder or something. (the teats I've got he actually has to suck to get anything out). Will BBL.
Vic, just quickly, yep I take Darcy in the shower with me all the time. Either that or in the bath with me. I'm too short for the baby bath on the bench, and I figure it saves me doing it another time.
Jodie - nice chatting on MSN this morning, always short lived with children hey!
Nat - sorry I can't help with your feeds but I think at the end of the day you will know what is right.
Vic - Wade showers with Lachie, and I bath with him, or he has a bath alone in his baby bath that he is quickly outgrowing. He is a slippery little sucker, but think that is our only option soon enough!
Hey I bled yesterday after DTD, guessing this is normal?????
What kind of temp do you have the water on in the shower when you take bubs in with you? I generally have my shower hot but I obviously wouldn't have it that hot if I bought Em in with me. And do you girls so this when your partners are around or when you are by yourselves? Thanks!!
SNAP Sheree - how are ya babe? Good to hear from you! I think it is normal to bleed a little afterwards. Was it alot? I started spotting after DP & I DTD the other week but I think thats more to do with the implanon. Which doesn't really help you LOL.
I totally agree Vic! She gets her face and hands washed and when I worked in the nICU they only got a bath every week on Wednesday nights.
Nat I do it when DH is around to take her so I can finish. The midwives told us that the baby should be able to tolerate the same temp as mum as long as it isn't too hot.
Sheree, don't know haven;t gone there, but good on all of you who have. I have gynae issues 'down there' and a nerve disorder. It's been so long, I'm a little bit scared it will hurt too much and I'll never want to do it again.....
Just wanted to hop on and say - FOR THE FIRST TIME TODAY, DARCY HAS SETTLED HERSELF. SHE'S BEEN LYING ON THE SPARE BED FOR THE LAST HALF AN HOUR AND HAS GONE TO SLEEP!!!!! YAAAAAAYYYY! Might have to try this more often instead of wrapping her.....
Well, I went out house hunting again today, yeah I know I'm supposed to be putting a flat up in my aunts backyard! Went to the main real estate in town and they have on the blackboard out the front 3 bedroom house for rent $145 per week! So, I go in and ask if there were any houses for rent and they said no!Apparently , that one went on Friday!!!!
Went to another real estate agent and they haven't had any for months!
On another note, took Pat to be weighed today( as per DHS's orders) and Pat is now up to 3.34kg, which is weird because he was only 3.1kg on Thursday and he has never put on that much weight!
Jack is supposed to be going on camp on Wednesday but last Saturday when he went to the Collingwood match with my aunt and his brother, he decided to wander off away from my aunt a couple of times and then started talking to strangers. I don't feel like sending him to camp just for them to say we are sorry but he wandered off. Now I know I sound neurotic but even if we ar ewalking into town he wanders off, something just has to catch his eye and he will go and check it out! Yeah, there will be teachers there but only two teachers for 20 students, Jack needs constant supervision! Now I'm rambling so I'll leave it here!
Oh gosh, you gals can really chat up a storm! I don't think I'll get around to doing too many personals but I'll try to write about what I remember...
Re: dtd - yay for those of you who have! Toby is six weeks three days today and we haven't yet. I have to admit though that it isn't because of any 'problem' - I think everything is ok. But I'm having a hard time adjusting to my post-baby body. I think it's more that I'm 9 kg overweight and I worked so hard to lose 23 kg the first time around - it's just not as exciting to lose it again, and I don't really feel like I'm 'myself'. I know we'll get back there again. Poor DH!
I was wondering for those who recommended the coloxyl drops - is it for wind pain too? Toby is such a good bub except for when he has wind pain. He self settles most times (sometimes he kicks up a fuss but then he goes off on his own), but the times that he's unsettled he farts away like crazy and kicks his legs up and cries in pain. The poor thing. We've tried Marina and Infant's Friend and nothing has any lasting effect.
Glad to hear that Patrick has put on weight, Jess! Hopefully that's a sign that the tide has turned.
Poor little Phoebe, Mummy. I hope you're all feeling better soon.
Go Darcy! That's great news, Kim. I hope she continues to settle herself too.
Shazz - yep, let's lose that weight together! We can do it! Even though it's not much fun being over the weight you want to be, I'm kinda glad that a few of you are having the same struggles so we can do it together.
Jodie - that's cool about ACA. When will you be on? And has Pinky given you good advice? You'll have to tell us all her secrets.
Sara - congratulations on the birth of Briley! I was wondering where you'd been - I'm glad that you're doing well. I haven't posted a birth story on BB, but if you visit my blog (the www link on here) and go to the post entitled 'Introducing...' you can read about it if you like. I'll read yours when I get a chance.
Alison - glad that Cooper's constipation isn't too bad now.
Lea - how do you stretch Em's feeds out? I have trouble stretching Toby out. He's in pain so much that I often confuse pain cries for hunger cries, and then the times I think "oh no, I'll wait and see if he's really hungry" he ends up actually being hungry and then I feel bad for making him wait. *sigh* Hope it's working for you both. Did you have a nice lunch?
Jovi - I was under the impression that you were going back to work 40 hours a week... but 3.5 hours isn't too bad at all. Bugger that doctor - I have heard people say that about teething pain too, but I have my wisdom teeth coming through atm and it bloody hurts, so how could a whole set of new teeth coming through not hurt a baby?! What an idiot.
Charlie is staying at Mum's again tonight. He had a shocking sleep - he usually sleeps from around 7 or 8 at night until 7 or 8 in the morning, but Toby waking up wakes Charlie up and he gets very sad. He's been up since around 6 and he had a veyr broken sleep. This is becoming more regular and he's so grumpy all day because he's tired, so we thought that it would do him good to sleep straight through. Wish we could sleep straight through too! Hopefully Toby will have a better night. It's not so much the lack of sleep but not being able to help him which sucks.
Anyway, we're having a very late dinner tonight - I fell asleep on the couch this afternoon and didn't wake up until about 6 so I got dinner on too late. It's slow cooked lamb shanks in a maple syrup and red wine sauce and it takes a few hours so it's only almost ready now! Better go and do the veggies. Hope you are all well, and sorry to those I missed - my brain is not working!
Lea, you mentioned buying another teat for Em as the ones you had he had to suck to get anything milk out. Which teat were you using? All the newborn or slow flow teats I have tried with cooper still seem to be too fast. I have been using a Haberman feeder and LOVE it, but at $30-$50 a bottle, I dont want to have to buy more. The Haberman is a teat that the baby has to suck to get milk out of and they are in control of the flow. I want a cheaper bottle with the same affect. Does that make sense?? I'm haven't come across any other brand that have a teat like that.
Bellasmum, firstly good luck with the househunting. Secondly, I see your point about Jack going on camp, but from a teachers point of view he will be fine. Although there may be only 1 teacher per 20 students, most camps have qualified organisers and so groups are reduced in numbers. Each group may have approx. 8 students which is easily managed. Some schools also take parent helpers along on camp to help in the groups. If Jacks school do this, perhaps you could request he is in a group with 2 aduklts, an extra pair of eyes and arms might be handy. I suggest you arrange a meeting with the camp co-ordinator and discuss your concerns. Camp is such a good experience for kids, I hate to see them miss out. Good luck with it all.
Kim, well done on getting Darcy to settle herself. Hope it continues. Cooper settles himself most of the time when I put him to bed, but Tony does things differently, so he probably gets confused. It saves so much time in your day when they settle themselves.
Cooper was weighed today by the MCHN and he is 5.49kgs!!! He is absolutly thriving and is spot on in everything such as length, weight, head size etc. So all good there. As for the constipation, I have been putting an extra 10ml of water into his bottles when I make them. I have also been massaging his belly and offering him water during the day. He is on the improve. I wont go into detail but things are better :) The nurse told me to keep doing what I have been doing and to avoid things like coloxyl drops if I can. I will see how he goes for another few days, if it isnt back to normal, then I will get the drops.
Other than that, nothing else to report on.
Hope you are all well,
Kellee ~ whats your plan of attack on the weight issue
i am walking every day except wednesdays with another mum from my kids school who also had a bub recently and i'm trying my hardest to eat healthy and drinking plenty of water oh and DH is looking at getting me an exercise bike on loan ryan is loving our walks that has become his morning sleep time he knows when i put him in the pram i'm sure he snuggles in
well i'm off to bed night every one
I had a great time at Snakes & Ladders. I didn’t realise how loud the kids can get lol. Poor Em got a bit of a shock. It was good for him though and he still managed to have a nap and a feed without getting distracted at all. He also played in the balls for a bit lol. I also managed to get Em weighed while I was out and he now weighs 5.27 kgs which I am happy with! So he has put on 400g in a week and a half after all that worry. I still got a new teat to try though (a Pigeon one) and he took 150mls in 10 mins which was great. He didn’t have any wind problems either. I will see how he goes over the next few feeds and I may change permanently. I am getting a lovely expensive collection of teats now LOL.
Vic ~ Em doesn’t get washed everyday either. Normally every second! He never really gets dirty though you’re right. The shower thing sounds interesting. I may have to try getting him ready for the shower, jumping in myself then getting out to grab him then get out together…. I don’t have an ensuite and Em screams once he’s out of the water until he is dressed. I will try it when DP is around first though I think!
Kim ~ Congrats on getting Darcy to self settle you must be rapt!!!
Jess ~ Glad to hear Patrick is gaining weight! And YAY for house hunting – you must be so happy! I’m sure Jack would be fine.
Sara ~ Read Kellee’s birth story – it is definitely worth it! In fact Kellee you should copy and paste it into a birth story thread – I think everyone would love it!!
Kellee ~ LOL I do the same thing with Em. TBH I didn’t really do anything to stretch it out – I just wasn’t as quick to offer the bottle IYKWIM. Today we were all over the joint again but we’ll see how we go tomorrow with the new teats and all. I hope Charlie gets a good nights sleep – I’m sure he’s thrilled to be sleeping at his Nans LOL. OMG I wish I had dinner at your place – I had reheated pizza hehe!
Alison ~ OMG @ $30-$50 a bottle – no wonder you’re looking for something cheaper. I was using the Tommee Tipee ones – I can’t remember what they are called though. The milk doesn’t come out at all unless bubs sucks. I can’t even squirt the milk out with my fingers. I got them from Big W and Woolworths. If you’re having trouble finding them I can always get some and send them over for you if you like! Glad to hear that Cooper is improving with his feeds as well.
Shazz ~ That is great that you are walking every day. Its so cold here I’m never really motivated though I should be. I should get a new headset and rechargeable batteries for my walkman and then I could listen to music and I’d probably go more often. Em would probably sleep through it as well which should be great. I’m actually thinking of joining the gym. The gym I want to join has a crèche which is free for members which would be handy for when I couldn’t get DP or someone else to watch Em.
Well I started this early this evening and then was interrupted. DP came and picked Em up so I could have my precious few hours alone on a Monday. So I vacuumed, mopped and dusted among a few other things. An hour or so after they left I checked my phone and there was a missed phone call from DP so I called back. All I could hear was screaming LOL… so DP drove back because he couldn’t settle Em after having him cry for almost an hour non-stop. Of course he fell asleep in the car and has been an angel since hehe! Cheeky little sod! But I still managed to get my finances sorted and my ironing done. Now all I need to do is my tax… so close!! I’m pretty tired so I think its bed time for me.
Hi to everyone else and big hugs for your bubbas!! Night girls!
Thanks Nat (yet again). I will look out for some Tommee Tippee. I do have some but they are too fast for him, so I will see what different ones they have. I have also been recommended BeBelle. There must be a decent bottle and teat out there that doesnt cost a small fortune. I have a nice collection as well, I have tried soooo many different types and never happy. I will keep looking! Em is a nice healthy weight by the way. Thanks again.
Thats fine Alison. Are they the Tommee Tippee Variflow witha concave head at the tip of the teat?
Mitch4now has these for sale in the Buy, Swap, Sell & Wanted Section HERE. I don't know if you're interested but it would be cheaper and easier to try them that way. OR I could just send you one of mine just to try if you like! I'd wrap it in plastic after sterilizing it and then you could sterilize it when you got it.... that should be alright shouldn't it?? I always just end up buying the teat and not the bottle. I may purchase the bottles with teats ONCE I've figured out what teats Em will keep using. He seems to like the pigeon ones so far. Does anyone have any idea what the difference is with the wide neck bottles?? They seem to be quite popular and I'm just wondering if there is a reason why? Thanks!:
3 x Tommee Tippee Nuborn standard variflow teats 2 pack These have 2 teats per pack, they are sutiable for 0+ and are one teat for all flow rates. marked as $6.50 ea sell price $3.00 ea Both for $5.00
ETA ~ BTW don't feel obligated Alison I'm just letting you know the offer is there ;)
Just a quick one, Lachie likes the pidgeon too Nat, they are meant to be the same as your nipple apparently, saves the confusion especially when I am still b/f and having to express sometimes when he won't attach.
Going to lactation consulatant soon, hopefully she can give me some tips on getting him to attach after medicine, this is driving me nuts!!!
I really don't want to give up b/f and I don't want to express forever, it upsets me that I might have to!
Wow Em is so heavy now, wow my little boy is only 4kgs.
Nat, I have emailed Mitch4now about the teats, I couldnt leave a message because I am not a platinum member. It definitely is a cheaper way to try them out, heaps cheaper and never used. Thanks for the link.
Hi Girls!! Thanks for all the congratulations, i really appreciate them.:)
So Briley is going well. She is growing heaps everyday, along with her hair!! I swear she is going to have a pony tail by the time she is 6 months old!! She already has a little rats tail. She is still having a few issues with conjuctivitis and her belly button though. She has had the conjunctivits since birth and her belly button just won't heal. The umbilical cord was cut way too long by the midwife who delivered her and had to be re-cut by another midwife on the ward. The cord fell off a few days later and had a bit of an infection in it. Now it's not infected but just won't heal. Our Dr gave us some cream for it but its a cream and not really a drying agent. It really need something to dry it out. I'll have to go back and see him. Her conjunctivits went away with eye drops and has just come back again. Has anyone else had these problem with their babies??? I have also made the mistake of getting her used to the dummy!! A lot of it is Brents fault cause even when she is'nt crying he offers it too her! I read that it should be used as a soother not for putting them to sleep and now she won't go down without it. I'll have to try and wean her from it already!! Does anyone else use them??
Mummy - Hi!! I don't think we've met. Anyways i'm Sara!! Nice to meet you. You'll have to fill me in about yourself. Here is a bit about me... I was a regular on BB but my computer got a virus and had to be put in the shop. Since then i really had'nt been bothered. I am a first time mum. My due date was the 30th May but Briley decided to make her entrance on the 5 June. If you read my birth story you would've read about how my pregnancy went. So yeah, thats pretty much it. If you would like to know anything else, just ask!!:) ANYWAYS!!!! Yeah i am trying to BF aswell as FF. I was exclusively BF but did'nt think she was getting enough so i tried her on formula and she took to it straight away. She does feed from both my boob and the bottle when i offer them. I really want to keep up with BF but FF is easier cause i know she is'nt getting enough out of my boob. At least with the bottle she is. But yeah she took them both very well. Sorry for the short story i've written!!!
Kelly - How you goin mate?? I will definetely be going and having a read of your birth story. I love to read other women stories. You should put it on BB. Im sure there are others on here who'd like to have a gander at it!! I still can't believe i gave birth and i have a little girl from it!! Its still so surreal. So you've go 2 boys now. How's that been??
So things are going pretty much normal with me. I got my first period which has been pretty heavy and is on it's 7th day. My periods before i fell pregnant lasted 3-4 days so i hope they aint going to last this long from now on. After going through the lochia for the full 6 weeks i get my period 3 days after that finishes!!!
I went too family planning last week to speak about getting mirena inserted but they would'nt let me because i was planning to have another baby within 2 years and they use that for more of a long term contraception. I also have to go back and see the Dr about some issues they were having "investigated"(as they put it!!) before i fell pregnant. They may want to continue the "investigation". I was booked in for a hystercoscopy and a laproscopy to look at my ovaries. I was on strict orders not to fall pregnant and walah!, I fall pregnant!!
I hope all is going well with everyone in mummyhood!! I am loving it. Despite a bit of sleep deprevation the last couple of nights!! I tried to put Briley's picture onto my ticker but it said the image was too big so i'll have to work something out so that you guys can see her. She is beautiful you kow!!;)
I am going to read kel's birth story now. I will be back later on in the week. Talk to you all then
Ciao!
I use the Tommee Tippee teats for the wide neck bottles as well. Pat seems to like them more than the normal teats. While he was in hospital they got him used to normal teats but I have put him back on the wide neck because I find they are easier to hold. (plus the kids rather hold them when they are feeding him!)
Hi Sara, I'm new in here as well. Patrick was due on the 23rd June but came on the 24th May, I spend my time swapping from the june thread back to here! Patrick is my 6th child and I have three at school and now three at home.
i'm doing this with Patrick as well. My milk isn't strong enough for him and the doctor wanted me to try keeping up the BF as well as giving him a FF.:
Yeah i am trying to BF aswell as FF. I was exclusively BF but did'nt think she was getting enough so i tried her on formula and she took to it straight away. She does feed from both my boob and the bottle when i offer them. I really want to keep up with BF but FF is easier cause i know she is'nt getting enough out of my boob. At least with the bottle she is. But yeah she took them both very well. Sorry for the short story i've written!!!
Kellee, I don't know how well this owuld work for the wind pain, but it can't hurt to find out. Peppermint tea, a very weak solution works for adults (peppermint boiled in water for a few minutes).
So glad you're back Sara, did you get my email?
Great weight Nat, you're doing something right!
Sheree I have a skinned rabit, 4kg is 4kg and that's heavier than when he started.
Hi to everyone else. Any luck with a house Jess? Is Pat OK?
Kellee - Sorry if I was confusing ... I am going back fulltime, but when I said I'll only be away 3.5 hours at a time - start work at 8:30, lunch at 12 for an hour, home at 4:30, Mon-Fri.
Hi girls,
Sara ~ Hi Sara, just a bit of info on me, I am 29 (30 in 9 days OMG) I have two children Samuel almost 3 and Phoebe 2 1/2 mnths, both born by C-Section. I have been happily married for 5 years, keen scrapbooker & SAHM. (for now anyway) Loved Briley's birth story, it brought a tear to my eye, but most birth stories do...I'm such a sook. Looking forward to getting to know you better.
Sheree ~ hope everything goes well with the lactation consultant, and you get a few ideas to make it a bit easier.
Lea ~ wow, Em is doing great with his weight, keep doing what ever it is that you are doing. Phoebe's last weigh in, she was 4.6kgs, she should have cracked the 5kgs by now....and that reminds me, I should really get around to getting her weighed again.
Well my little cherub is doing well, she is over her virus and is just a wonderful, happy, content sweet little girl. Definately no probs with her, feeding and sleeping fantastically, being a right little angel. What more could I ask for!!!
Take Care X
Well ladies my little man is currently dressed in a 000 one piece suit… awwwww he grew bigger LOL!!! When did that happen…. Must have been when I wasn’t looking!!!
Sheree ~ I was thinking that he was the small one of the group but I guess he is a little tubber after all!! I hope you solve your problems regarding Lachie and feeding after medicine. TBH I would never have picked up the Pigeon teat because of the word ‘silicon’ which just put me off. But they were the only ones there so I thought I’d give them a go. I’m glad that I did – they are great for Em and easy to clean. He is taking anywhere up to 180mls in 20 mins rather then over an hour which is great!!
Kim ~ It is a good weight hehe!
Vic ~ Are the Pigeon bottles wide necked ones?
Alison ~ No probs I hope that they work for you! Saw your pic of Cooper on your MSN pic and its gorgeous!!!
Sara ~ I hope Briley’s conjunctivitis and belly button problems clear up for you soon. My fist period was pretty heavy as well – I was back in maternity pads!! You will just have to resize the picture real small to fit on there. Can’t wait to see her!!!
Jess ~ I hope that Patrick is doing well. How is the house hunting going?
I am baking a cake and waiting for The OC to come on – the finale tonight and I’m excited LOL. I went to join the gym tonight but I haven’t joined up just yet. It’s $16.50 a week for a full club membership – which is gym ,classes, pool, sauna etc and for an annual fee of $20 the crèche is available as well. I’m not sure if it’s a good price. I’m also worried I won’t be able to get there enough to make it worth it and I’ll need to check the availability of the crèche. You have to join for 12 months and it’s a $99 cancellation fee. It has just been refurbished and it is an amazing gym – state of the art equipment and a huge variety of classes and times. I think I’m just afraid of the commitment LOL… I would be able to make it at least 3 or 4 times a week – it’ll just be making myself go which would probably be a good thing. What does everyone think? I’ll BBL…
OK That post wouldn't post and I kept trying and trying LOL... so now I will try again with this addition:
Mummy ~ I'm pleased as well after all the worry about him feeding and not feeding! Now with him drinking even more I'm a little worried about him growing out of all his cute stuff!!! I don't want to get too big too quick LOL!!! Phoebe sounds like a gorgeous little girl!! Have you considered taking her or Samuel to play gym at the Starplex?
