Hi everyone I thought I should pop in and say hello! My beautiful bubba was born five weeks early so I'm a bit lost ATM as to where I should be, I think May might suit us well :) Our original EDD was 2nd June, but he was going to be a May bub anyway (and almost was!).
Your name: Sarah
Partner's name: Andrew
Ages: 27 & 38
Location: Melbourne
Baby's name: Nicholas John
Sex: Boy
First, second, third etc baby: First baby

We're all doing really well despite Nicky being early and me having a broken foot! DH is wonderful, as is my mum and ILs, so I'm very lucky.
I'll keep this short so I can have some time to go back over the start of this thread and get to know everyone.
Hope you're all getting lots of sleep, looking forward to 'meeting' everyone! :)
Love Sez xoxo

welcome home kristen! i will email you details for LCs and breastfeeding help.
-
Hi Kristen and welcome back the photos of Mia and her daddy is gorgeous!
And Sarah you are more than welcome to join us in here. How long ago did you break your foot??
-
ok see how i go doing a post...:)
welcome home to all the new mummies!!! i hope your all settling into motherhood well.
nurse dan - will be thinking of you as your moving. i hope it all goes well.
mmm - i think we managed to get a few really good pics of baden (pixie photos). for the first few he just cried and then he eventually went to sleep. i think those ones will be just precious.
i also got my photos that were taken at the hospital. over the next few days i will try to addthem to my photo album. its hard but, and i still havent got around to checking out everyones bubs. the other day i had a few moments to spare and BB was down! :(
anyway we are all doing well. badens feeding is getting better but im still using the nipple shield and still doing formula top ups. at his last weigh in he was still 250gr off his birth weight - he gets weighed again this thursday so hoping he will be back to or over birth weight.
i am very glad ive managed to stick with the breastfeeding so far, but we definately have our ups and downs.
anyway im trying my best to keep up with everyones posts - will get back to everyones websites as soon as i can.
take care and cuddles to all mums and bubs.
ps. just read tans news - lots of us ended up having c/sections huh.
oh and sarah my scar has been fine. hurt like hell the first time i got up afterwards and every now and then its a little bit ouch when i sit or lie down, but mostly its been fine. i havent needed pain relief or anything since coming home.
-
good to hear from you Lee. Mason had his free pixie photo on the weekend and it turned out great. He slept the whole time hehe. But i refused to pay so much for the additional pics. I have taken some at home and they cost me barely nothing to print here with imitation cartridges. Im such a tight ass lol..
well done on the breast feeding! keep it up! Mason is thriving now on the breast as well as EBM in the bottle as well.
Mason has new pics on his site :)

Hi Guys,
Well, I'm still strugging to keep up, so I'm afraid no personals just yet. I just can't seem to find the time to log on anymore :( I'm sure once we get settled I'll be back in action!!
Well our first night at home was a pretty good one. Luke is sleeping really well, wakes for a feed and nappy change, then settles himself - it's great but he is waking about every three hours, so I'm only managing to get two hours sleep at a time (and that's if I fall straight back to sleep)!! I'm not liking the tiredness too much, I'm one of those people who really needs their sleep, but I'm doing a lot better than I expected with it!!!
OMG last night we had a classic nappy changing experience resulting in the deadly three things all happening in the middle of the change – wee, poo and spew – all coming out at the same time, of course, once we’ve taken the nappy off!!! All you can do is laugh and then wash EVERYTHING!!!! We’ve run out of clothes already!!!! Thank god Ryann was up too, I think I would of cried otherwise. All this was in the middle of a feed too!!! Classic!!
With regards to the feeding, I'm having problems with one of my nipples too - it's so bloody sore and have been using a nipple shield. It seems to be working really well, feeding isn't quite as painful, so hopefully it will do the trick and I'll be able to go without it again soon - Danni, you've given me lots of hope!!! The other breast is holding up really well though, so fingers crossed it will stay that way. The leaking boobs is just a classic isn't it!! After every shower, my boobs go nuts - it's hilarious!! Not to mention how big they are now!!! I feel like I've had a massive boob job, it's the greatest, until they get so full that they hurt. Hopefully that will settle down too.
Well I'm back to the OB tomorrow as my c/s scar has got a really bad skin irritation or rash over it. It's really red and looks terrible. They nearly didn't let me out of hospital because of it but they're pretty sure its not infected, so I have to pop into the OB again tomorrow for another check of it. Its not getting better though, so I'm a bit worried but I'm sure its not infected - its just very much a skin irritation!!
Wow, this post was much longer than I anticipated - better go sort out dinner.
Hope to catch up on things by the end of the week and promise I'll get some pics up soon too, I just haven't had time to even think about it!!

Hi girls. Finally got around to making time to post in the bubbies thread.
Your name: Pamela
Partner's name: Rein
Ages: 36 and 35
Location: Perth, WA
Baby's name: Isabelle Grace
Sex: Girl
First, second, third etc baby: First
Birthday: 2 May 2007
Time: 10.17 pm
Weight: 3520 grams (7 pounds 12)
Length: 50 cm
Head Circumference: 35
Natural or C-Section: Natural with epidural (35 hours from the beginning of induction and no way was I sticking with my no-drugs plan!) and small episiotomy
How many weeks gestation:40 + 5
I think Izzy is stirring so my first post is going to be a selfish one with no personals. Izzy is still feeding brilliantly - I'm incredibly lucky in that I have had absolutely no problems whatsoever with her feeding. I really feel for you girls that are having issues - I hope you can get them worked out soon. What I am having problems with though is getting Izzy to sleep - she has colic/reflux so gets horrible tummy problems and she just can't settle unless she's being held upright - which really doesn't help her Mummy get much sleep at all!! Days are the worst and nights fortunately not too bad. Hopefully she'll grow out of it soon.
Kel - I hear you with the nappy issues - 3am when I was changing Isabelle I got the wee and jet propulsion poo (very bad side of colic!!) that went all over me, the floor, her clothes and her grobag. She had been asleep until then too -bugger!
Oh well, better go and give my princess another feed. Promise to catch up with personals soon.
Hope the c-section girls are feeling a bit better and not suffering too much with the after effects.

Im back!! Briefly! - just got home today OMG so exhausted but Isabelle is an angel - I already feel like a feeding machine too - especially as my milk is only just ocming in today and she feeds prety much 3 hourly if not more.
Will put up a couple of pics girls = and will catch up ina few days when we settle in- thanks for all your support!!

Hi Guys,
I have one very hungry little boy with me so I'll have to try and pop back later but just wanted to let you all know that I've finally updated Luke's website with heaps of pics!!!
Talk soon.

Morning everyone!
I'm feeling not too bad this morning after a few hours sleep last night. Nicky went four and a half hours between feeds at one point last night YAY! (the other was two and half, but never mind :p). It's amazing what three hours straight of sleep can do for you!
Yesterday we went to the orthodpaedic surgeon about my foot - it's still very much broken, but he said that's normal and that this injury can take 6 or more months to heal. The fact that I have no pain is good, hopefully I won't need any surgery down the track, but I'll have the boot on for at least another 8 weeks probably :(. So I'm house-bound for a bit longer yet! Just as well I have a newborn to keep me busy and distracted LOL.
Feeding is going pretty well, it's really not easy to know what is right though. It is alot easier now that he only needs a comp feed every second feed now, but I can't wait to have him weighed again on Monday to check that he's still gaining lots of weight! Now that he's getting older and waking up more my nipples are a getting a bit more of a work out, they're a bit grazed ATM. Thank goodness for Lansinoh!
Kelly, how did you go with the Ob? I hope your scar isn't giving you too much trouble hun. How long is Ryann home for? Luke is so cute, I'm sure you're just loving being a mum! BTW, I haven't been pooed on on the change table yet, but he did poo on me while I was feeding him on Mother's Day PMSL!
Tanya, welcome home! I hope you all settled in well on your first night, and that your boobs aren't too sore!
Pamela, that's great that Izzy is feeding so well! Bugger about the colic, that must be very hard when you're tired. My little man just likes company and noise at night so I know what you about holding them upright when you're tired!
Danni, so glad that Mason is doing well on the breast now, good on you hun :)
Lee, it's hard doing the top ups as well, isn't it? Don't worry about getting to everyone's websites, I haven't got to my own yet LOL!
Kristen, I love all the milestones too! And I just keep wanting to go back to the day my waters broke, I loved the whole experience. I've hired a pump too, it's soooo worth it, isn't it? I just wish I could express more, 20ml in 20 minutes doesn't make me happy, and that's my best effort! Oh well, I'm trying everything I can, and Nicholas certianly seems to get enough from me.
Melissa, how are you going with the bottle? If you're still having problems, maybe you could try syringe or cup feeding?
Ashlee, how are things going with you guys? You must be loving having your little man home. We were so lucky that Nicholas only had to spend 24 hours in the SCN, that was hard enough! You must be very strong to cope so well, good on you.
Dan, thinking of you, ...........I feel sorry for you, I really really hate moving, can't imagine doing it ATM! Hope it goes well for you.
Sarah, how's the feeding going? I hope you're not too tired and that things are settling down now for you.
Oh man, I think that's about all I can handle for now! So many bubbas in here LOL! I'm really sorry if I missed anyone. I'd best go and finish my brekky now before Nicky wakes for his feed. In fact I think he's stirring now.....BBL!
Love Sez xoxo
-
another rocky night :( Mason was awake from 11pm-1am :( then woke every 2.5 hours for a feed. he is finally down now....oh im so tired
-
hope you can get some rest this morning Danni xx
-
Go to bed Danni! That's an order ;) Hope Mason is more settled today.
-
Danni it must have been the night for it. We had our worst night with Olivia last night. She was awake from 9.30pm until 2.30am screaming. Nothing we did settled her. I was in tears and poor Dave had Olivia screaming and me crying. The poor bugger didn't know what to do. Thankfully, she too is sleeping now so I can get some sleep and packing done while I wait for her to wake for a feed.
I completely agree with Sez it's amazing what three hours sleep in a block will do for you.
Gotta dash and keep packing. Catch up later.
Luv Dan.
-
he didnt stay down at all. He is screaming again...im at a loss here
-
Hey danni,
just a few suggestions,
Mason is at wonder week 5 so his behaviour is perfectly normal. Have you tried giving him a warm bath and massage or my other suggestion would be to just carry him in a sling if you have one. I know with Hendy when he went through the wonder weeks i wouldnt fight him id just carry him in the bjorn as it meant he was content and that meant that i wasnt stressed. I even would have a cat nap on the couch with him in the sling on my chest. HTH
-
Aquick one from me guys - this breastfeeding thing every 1 - 1 and a half hours is doing my head in - and i agree last night was the worst... up from 130- 6 with about 1 hr of rest scattered in between.
Anyway just want to know when should i express and how much?? I feel so clueless and we were topping her up with formula until my milk came in but now i want reserves of my milk instead. Hope you are all well and catching some zzzz's. 3 hours would be heaven wouldnt it??!
-
our first not home was our worst tan! hope she settles better for you soon.
I express every couple of hours. I would rather do that, than run out of milk or feed too often iykwim?
I have now got too much EBM so i am starting to freeze it. It has helped ease my mind heaps.
Please call me if you need anything!
-
Tan, I express between feeds, trying to leave at least an hour before I start feeding again IYKWIM. I was doing it through the night too, but quickly decided that I would go insane if I kept that up LOL! Try to not to sit on the pump for too long, it's not great for your nipples (apparently). I either do 5 minutes on each side, or 5 and 5 and 5 and 5, depending on how much time I have etc.
I just wish I could get as much milk out as everyone else!
-
Hi everyone
For expressing - depends on the time of day, but I usually get anywhere between 20-50ml (60 on a really good day but that's only happened once) if I express from both boobs for around 20-30 mins at a time, alternating between the two every 10 mins or so. I have no idea if this is good/bad/indifferent, but it's what I can manage at the moment.
I had my first MCHN visit this morning and mine is LOVELY! She's also a proper lactation consultant too so I got to ask her all of my questions and she's going to help me get rid of the formula, boost my EBM supply as well as help me feed properly so I'm really pleased about that! Go back again on Monday for another visit.
Mia is going well - been a bit grizzly at times but we've tried since just after coming home from the hospital to put her into a routine ASAP. Fingers crossed, so far so good and she's gone quite well. Sometimes she'll settle straight away when we put her down, sometimes it might take half an hour or so, but she gets there eventually. Day is typically like this:
7am - wake, nappy, feed, play (express)
8:30 - sleep
11:00 - wake, nappy, feed, play (express)
12:30pm - sleep
2:00pm - wake, nappy, feed, play
3:30pm - sleep
5:00 - wake, nappy, feed and her nightly bath at 6pm every night
7:00pm - sleep
10:00 - wake, nappy, feed (express)
11:00 - sleep
3:00 - wake, change nappy and feed
4:00 - sleep
... and then start again at 7am. So far so good - she seems to respond to it quite well at the moment, so here's hoping she continues to enjoy it. Means I can go to bed after I've expressed around 11:30pm and then only get up once between then and 7am. If she goes back to sleep quickly, then it means only an hour or so up (sometimes she's been grizzly and it can mean I'm in there every 15 mins all night, but that's what babies do!!)
-
keep up expressing...i now get minimum 120ml from one boob in 5 mins. its well worth it to boost your supply :)
-
Hi there mummies,
So no personals as Olivia is starting to stir for a feed but a quick one to say good bye for a week at least . My telephone gets disconnected tomorrow and the telephone at our new house isn't going to be connected until wednesday and then we have to wait for broadband to get connected. I don't know what I'm going to do without my internet.
I hate moving so much :wall:. But we gotta do what we gotta do. The highlight is that I finally get to set up Olivia's room. YAY!!!!
All you gorgeous babies behave yourselves for your mummies and all mum's enjoy being a mum.
I'll catch up ASAP. Going to miss chatting to you ladies. I don't know what I'm going to do without my daily BB fix.
Luv Dan.

OH MY GOD GIRLS!!!!!!!!!! I was looking around and reading some forums and you will never guess who I found with a pregnancy ticker.
TESS!!!!! I am so excited that she is pg again.
I've been searching for her announcement and there isn't one but I'm determined to find somewhere to congratulate her. I'll let you know if I do find somewhere and if vice versa please.
I'M SO EXCITED FOR HER!!!!!!!
-
Yes yes yes!!! Tess IS pregnant but hasnt officially made an announcement yet. There is a thread somewhere on here titled something along the lines of "how soon do symptoms start?" and this is where she posted :D
Dan: we will miss you!! Feel free to sms me if you need anything :)
-
ok no personals as i have baden on my lap, but im reading and going to check out pics today i promise.
ive also updated badens site ( a little) with some pics and birth story. heaps more to do so maybe check again next week.
do you know what i did the other day??? made a tuna pasta bake but forgot the tuna! i was also looking for cat food in the fridge - man i need sleep!:)
hope everyone is well.
tan isobelle is gorgeous - i cannot sign your guestbook.
kristen - your guestbook isnt working?
had a look at a few, will do a few more later. all the bubs are gorgeous! we are a lucky bunch arent we.
-
This will be interesting trying to catch up, a fussy boy in one hand and typing with the other..
Lee- LMAO at looking for the cat food in the fridge. I keep putting the bag of dog food in the fridge. I thought placenta brain was bad but new mum brain is worse for sure ;)
Dan- Bummer about no net for a week, I guess the plus side is that this forum moves a lot slower than the belly buddies one because we have so much more on our plates. You will be missed but enjoy setting up Olivias nursery and be sure to take pics of it when you are done!
Kristen- It's fantastic that you have Mia in a routine, is there a trick that I am missing?
Tan- Great to hear you are all well, I can't help you on the expressing thing but you are on the right track it sounds like. I can't express anything myself, starting to wonder if I am out of boobie juice. I hope you are getting your rest. I love the pics of Isabelle, she is gorgeous!
Heather- What is this wonder week thing you are talking about, I am scared now what on earth have I gotten myself into :wall:
Danni- I hope you are getting more sleep these last few days. Great news on the boobie juice production as well.
Sez- Is your foot still giving you trouble? It is no fun being housebound for sure. Make sure to get lots of rest so you heal quickly.
Kelly- Luke looks absolutly adorable, I hope you are doing well!
Well that is as far back as I can go and my battery is about to die in the next 10 min. Still demand feeding although I tried to spread it out. It seems that backfired on me and Noah is wanting to feed 15 mins after finishing the last one. I tried to express and got almost a teaspoon and nothing more would come but then he fed and spewed up after so there must be some milk. I am still in agony after the c/s but I can't stop doing things like cleaning and I went for a walk the other day so it is my own fault. Well that is all for now before the laptop conks out. Quick question though, is there anyone else doing the co sleeping thing? Or anyone who started off doing it and then had to make the transition to the cot or bassinett? Ok he is howling now, will pop in later I hope
-
Hi Guys!!
I'm so sorry, I still don't seem to have the time for personals - we keep getting so many visitors popping in to see us, which is taking up all my valuable BB time!! LOL. I am reading through all the post though, just can't get my head enough around it all to attempt personals and certainly don't have the time!!
I'm soo pleased to hear about Tess though, that's just the most exciting news and I can't wait for her offical announcement!!!
Oh and Sez, I'm so glad that you've joined us too, I just read your birth announcement, it's so beautiful!!!
Well, things are still going really well for us. I feel so lucky to have such a good little boy, he's certainly making life a little easier for us than I expected!! He's feeding about every two to three hours and i'm still using the nipple shield on one nipple but I think it's starting to feel a little better. I'm producing so much milk though and am a little afraid of expressing, because I certainly don't want my supply to increase. I'm more worried that I'm not emptying my boobs and apparently thats where you can get blockages and nasty things happening - does anyone else have this problem. I just leak like nothing else!! My boobs don't actually hurt though but they're getting really full. I'm not sure whether to just keep going as normal or whether to express aswell.
The little blocks of sleep is hard to get used to aswell - it's exhausting!!! And I'm a bit like Sarah - I'm doing far too much and my c/s scar is still hurting, it really makes life so much more difficult. Not to mention the horrible rash I got over the scar - my OB seems to think I had a reaction to the tape that was put over the scar while it healed. It's just a little annoying but it's starting to clear up!
We're just introduced a dummy into Luke's world too and it's the best thing ever!! Not that he cries too much but when he wakes too early, I've been putting it in to try and get a bit more sleep out of him before feeding again. It's working wonders and I hope it's not a bad habbit to get into.
We also took him for his first visit to the shops yesterday - what a great day we had. Sorted out all our Medicare and Health Insurance and he was just such a good boy!! Gives me confidence to venture out and about a bit more - well, that is when I can actually drive again - it's so frustrating.
Well, better go, Luke is a little hungry and he's starting to spit the dummy out. He's so cute, even when he is getting upset!!! I just love being a mum!!!

sarah - the wonder weeks is a book that every mother should own!!! I first found out about it on BB when Hendy was a baby (kelly BB creator swears by it and it is a godsend) it is a study that the authors carried out over 25 years studying cognitive milestones that all babies go through in there first year. There are heaps of them and the older bubs get the longer they go for, but the first is at 5 weeks but only lasts a couple of days. The authors talk about fussy periods followed by wonder weeks where your bub has gained a new skill. There is a thread about the book somewhere, you can buy the book online at amazon. Its the best and shouldnt worry you as it just shows you that when your bub is going through an unsettled period it is completely normal and that they will get over it!! Eventually!! HTH
-
Hi everyone, I'm not attempting personals today as I'm about to have a nap before more visitors arrive!
Last night wasn't too bad, but I did fall asleep while feeding for over an hour - OOPS! Mum came over today and took me out to buy a new digital camera yay! I'm over having a broken foot, but I'm lucky that it doesn't give me much pain. It's just a hassle that I'm going to be housebound for the next two months at least :( Nicholas is being devine, I can't believe how much he has changed already! He's going to grow up so fast.
Kelly, yep we're dummy lovers here too, Nicholas has had one since day one (they give them out freely in SCN to the premmies). As a dental nurse I would far rather a dummy than a thumb LOL! Nicky doesn't always want it, which is fine, but sometimes it saves our sanity! As long as you're not getting any blockages I wouldn't start expressing if you're not wanting to boost your supply. Besides, it's just another time consuming thing to do LOL! Spare yourself if you can ;) Glad you liked our birth story :)
I think I need to get a copy of the wonder weeks........I meant to do it before and forgot, better order it now!
Hope you're all having a lovely day! Sez xoxo
-
hi all another quick one from me! After a nightmare first night last night was so much better - although i have to admit that at the 2am feed she fell asleep next to me on the couch and i was to scared to stir her and put her to bed so i slept with her on the ouch til 6. Really dont want to start that but i just had to have some sleep, since then its been 3 hourly feeds - yes!!!
Have been expressing just 5 minutes on each breast twice and getting around 80-100ml. GIves my bb's some relief because at times she only feeds for 30 min on one then only 10 on the other and Im huge - I still feel so clueless and dont know whats normal or not.
My nipples are super sore too even when expressing -they look pretty good not cracked red or bleeding though - could it just be that they are super sensitive?? Sorry about the billion questions - as if we all dont have enough to do!
Rest assured I am reading and keeping up with everyone, have to say cant wait to get out of the house for a bit but just the thought of going anywere at the moment is terrifying!! Plus I am super sore today - was doing well for a few days and today my muscles around my scar are killing me... grrr. Anyway enough whining.
Great news for Tess- so happy for her!!
Big hugs to all gorgeous bubbies - be good to your mummies!!
Oh and forgot to say the other day Lulu - that it is funny about the names !! My preference was actually Isabelle Grace!! but my neices name is Grace and Al wasnt sure and preferred Jade too so we compromised!! Imagine that! hee hee! We all have impeccable taste in names i have to say though ladies!
So much for a quick post - better go have a nap while i can!
Talk soon!
-
tan: go and buy some lansinoh nipple cream from the chemist. it is GOLD for your nipples. they will settle down soon though
-
Another quick one for Vic/Melb girls!! How are you keeping bub warm?? Im paranoid that Isabelle is either too hot or cold... we have the ducted heating on around 18-19overnight but it still feels cool at 2am IYKWIM - and we are wrapping her in a light flannel wrap and covering with a light polar fleecy type blanket? When I feel its too cold we add a flannel wrap as a cover too... now thats its down it seems like alot but Im still worried.
Cheers ladies - Danni Is aw your post re: sleeping bags - I have 2 2.5 tog grobags but it think we need her a bit bigger to start using them even though they are newborn ones?? Not too sure??
-
Tan, if you have a thermometer stick it under Isabelles underarm and if she is between 36 and 37c you have her the correct temp, apparently testing to feel if hands and feet are cold is outdated as babies have poor circulation to start with. You are better off having her too cool and crying to tell you so than overheating her. Over 37 is bad..
-
I'm so thrilled for Tess. Its going to be a very scary journey for her but I've got everything crossed she's holding a beautiful baby in her arms at the end of it.
Tan - I'm using my grobags with Isabelle already. We've had some really cold nights here and I was worried she wasn't warm enough so she's in a Bonds all in one, then in her 2.5 grobag, then I swaddle her arms (I don't worry about wrapping her legs up though) in muslin or flannel depending on the weather, then put her in her cradle with anywhere between one weave blanket and 2 weaves and 2 woollens, depending on the night. The grobags are great when you have to feed in the early hours - she stays nice and warm and doesn't stir too much.
Sarah - I did the co sleeping a bit at the very beginning. Izzy just wasn't settling and I was so exhausted that I brought her into bed with me so she would at least settle and get some sleep herself. I ended up dozing off and it worked so well we did it for about a week. Not something I want to do all the time but hey, if it gets you and Noah some sleep then I say go for it.
Kelly - yay for the successful shopping adventure. Its quite daunting isn't it. I've been out a few times with Isabelle now and so far have made sure I go out just after a feed and get home when one's due. Haven't been brave enough to tackle the whole changing, feeding, settling in public yet.
Lee - you poor chicken. Tuna bake without the tuna would have been interesting though!! I hope you get some sleep soon.
Dan - good luck with the move. I don't envy you at all but at least doing Olivia's room is something to look forward to.
Danni - I hope Mason is a bit more settled today and you're getting some sleep.
Kristen - I'm jealous of your schedule. I tried waking Izzy for feeds during the day to get some sort of routine happening but it just ended up with her waking for feeds every 2 hours - day and night. Not what I had planned!
Hi to Sez, Heather, Jan and Mel (Sorry if I've missed anyone!)
How is everyone getting their bubs to sleep? Isabelle is pretty good at night - she doesn't usually wake and basically feeds back to sleep but day time is a completely different story. I've just started trying letting her cry (before I was always picking her up and letting her fall asleep on me before putting her back down), but still being there patting her tummy and rocking the cradle but it breaks my heart hearing her cry. Anybody got a better solution?
-
tan: i have no idea about grobags! someone mentioned them to me, so i dunno! Mason spends half his sleeping time trying to escape his wraps, so im trying a different tactic.
Ok, we have the heater at 19 over night as well. Mason sleeps in a singlet, long arms/long legs/enclosed feet polar fleece suit, wrapped in a cotton wrap (stretchy), and then another warm blanket on top of him.
Make sure when you change her nappy, feel her feet and her tummy. If the skin is nice and warm, you are fine :)
luu: no better solutions here! I am trying letting Mason cry for a little bit too but it breaks my heart too.
-
Hello everyone!
Dan - best of luck with your move hon!!
Lee - guestbook should be working? Ah, I see you've made a post so everything is ok! :D I've been the victim of stupid mistakes as well... I blame lack of sleep!
Sarah - No trick to the routine - it's just a routine! We started Mia on it the day after we came home from the hospital (it's the Gina Ford Contented Baby routine) and she's thriving on it. She's actually waking herself now around the right times already knowing what's coming up! It's so cute! We're not doing co-sleeping - we wanted to get MIa used to her cot from day 1 so we wouldn't have issues with her not being able to fall asleep by herself in there later on.
Kelly - glad to hear the feeding is getting better hon! Seems that same way for me as well so just need to get my milk supply up and I'll be right. Hope the sleep catches up for you soon!!
Heather - I had never heard of that book either! I should have a look, thanks
Sezjm - haha I've fallen asleep while feeding too! Sometimes it's hard not to when it's late and you're zonked! BFing takes a lot out of you so it's understandable!
Tan - That is AWESOME you are getting so much milk!!! I'm not getting anywhere near that yet so you are doing SO well! Keep it up hon! I think you might just have sensitive nipples, but just be wary on over-expressing as this can also make your nipples more sore as well.
As for keeping bubs warm, Mia sleeps in an Bonds wondersuit, plus a cotton stretchy wrap, top sheet and a woollen blanket. Her room is generally around 17 at night (we have a digi thermometer in her room). She seems fine with this.
Lulu - We have tried to get Mia into her cot before she falls asleep so that she can learn to send herself off to sleep without having to rely on us to do so. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but I know with perseverance it will pay off. It also helps her to get back to sleep herself during her nap times if she wakes herself up without us having to come in and rock her back to sleep. If she's unsettled, we try spaced soothing (patting her chest, saying 'shhhhh', rubbing her third eye gently, trying a dummy and then finally if all else fails, we pick her up but it normally doesn't get to that point after we've tried all of the others). It took a little while before she got the hang of things but she's pretty good - but she has her good and bad times just like any other baby!! haha
Danni - how is Mason going with his sleeping? Still up and about during the night??
And finally TESS wherever you are - CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!
We're going well here - Mia is generally quite good with sleeping and feeding at the moment. She had a bit of a rough patch last night between her 7-10pm nap where she just wouldn't settle without falling asleep on one of our chests so we just watched tv with her, poor cherub. Sometimes they just need a cuddle (and who can deny them that when they're SO CUTE?!?)
I'm still trying to get my supply up - drinking sustogen and taking fenugreek tablets as well as expressing every 2nd feed (every feed and my nipples hurt too much) and we're getting there slowly. Just hope it picks up sooner rather than later!
I might have got some smiles today! Just a quick one but it wasn't a windy one as we were playing and she gave a short grin - but SO CUTE. Hasn't done it since but I was so glad to catch the fleeting one, even though it was so short!
Also - we have some NEW PHOTOS up on the website as well. My photographer friend Mel took them so if anyone is looking for a baby photographer she is EXCELLENT and so gorgeous - can thoroughly recommend her to you!!

hey kristen, Mason is sleeping much better during the night. He certainly knows night from day now. He wakes every 3-4 hours for a feed, but goes straight back to sleep which is a god send!
How you going? is David home with you still? Let me know when you want visitors :)
-
Danni - yep, David is home for another 3 weeks or so before he has to go back which is great because I'm relying on him like nothing else at the moment! I don't know how I'd cope if he wasn't here for me during the night, and then sleeping during the day!!
-
youre very lucky to have him home! Dale was home for 3 weeks with us and I was devestated when he went back to work. But you do cope babe. Remember I am not far away at all

Thanks for your sleep techniques Kristen. Its reassuring to know someone else is basically doing what we're doing - its just so hard listening to her cry, even though its only 5 minutes or so. And your photos are gorgeous! Pity your friend isn't in Perth!!
