Vicky - i got my period when Ella was 2 months too. I was like "HuH!? But...i'm breastfeeding this isn't suppose to happen" It also lasted 2 weeks! But havent had one since...

Ella is going well. Still drooling and no sign of teeth yet. They are taking their time but she seems grizzly all the time. She doesn't cry but when she gets something in her mouth she desperately chews it as if she's going to devour it. Its quite funny. :)

Hi Christy im sorry to hear that the paed appt didnt go so well

I just wanted to share with you what i did with Emelia..,i found that it worked for her..i know all babies are different, and believe me this was hard for me to do but she used to only go to sleep in my arms and when she fell asleep i would pop her in her cot and she would be awake within 5-15 mins but she would still be tired i couldn't understand why she was doing this, she was a very miserable baby. So i gave CC a go i would put her down make sure she was settled then walk away i stayed close by and watched her (she couldnt see me though) I wouldnt let her get to the stage where she was crying hysterically i just couldnt do that... i would let her cry for a few mintues and then would just walk up pop her dummy in make her settled again and walk away. the first time i tried this it only took ten minutes and she slept almost 3 hours for the first time ever, ever since then i have had no troubles she became an instant happy little bub. Only problem now is that she only likes her cot and wont fall asleep hardly anywhere else!

please dont think im telling you to do this, i just wanted to share with you my experience. please dont take it that im telling you this is what i think you should do with Jovie. sorry i probably didnt help in anyway at all

Ann - that's exactly what I had thought! I was not impressed. Have felt like s**t all day, completely wacked me. Thanks for the heads up on it maybe lasting ages...sigh.Dont' deal with that part of woman hood at the best of times!

Christy - How did u restrain yourself from wacking him over the head!?!? I'm so sorry that it wasn't a better result. Good luck with the natural therapies - I hope that it brings you and Jovie some relief soon.

Lucky you Belinda having a sleeping baby, and being other wise kid free for the day. Wouldn't you know it, I put aston down to sleep this morning at 8.30, and he slept til 11.00. and of course if I had of laid down then he would have slept for only an hour! murphy's law I swear!

Meredith I hope that you are able to get some assitance from the mother&baby unit. do you have a time for when you are going yet? Totally understandalbe about not wanting to be the only person to settle Logan - I sometimes feel hemmed in with Aston, and he's pretty easy, I think its when I have the other two sitting on top of me while I'm feeding him that I start to think "do I actually have ANY personal space at all???" And then after DH having a hard time with him when I went for my massage - well, needless to say I havnet had another one yet. and when I got my hair cut, Aston was with me...but I can see that if I'm the only one to "wave the magic wand" so to speak, its going to get harder for me to do anything! and I want to return to uni next year, so would be putting him into familiy day care. I don't want him to be so attached to me that his little heart breaks everytime I leave the room. (been there, done that with Nathan) Motherhood is already laden with enough guilt as it is without adding in more!!

Gosh I must sound like a horrible mother. just reread what I typed. I love all of my kids to pieces, but also know how important is to look after ME - otherwise I'm no good to anyone - kids, husband or the general universe! I guess I want my children to be confident, compassionate and caring human beings...oh i'm rambling now, can you tell I'm incredibily tired, and hormonal??? so i will stop before I start to sound ridiculous.

Well i had another great day at work,,kept me busy and time fly... now i have my grizzly monster at home....she wont astop crying and wingeing... not wat i had in mind after a long day....and also she has been an angel apparently ALL DAY!! Ah well... 2 days with her then back to work on Monday! Next week is a busy one for me.

ha ha Vicky, you keep saying things i want to say SNAP to!!!

my bub WON"T smile for the camera, goes from gurgly happy to serious THE MOMENT i pick up the camera!!!!

and if i lie down for a nap when bub is asleep, she will have a short nap.
if i go and do housework etc, she will have a long nap and i will think "Wow, i could have had a decent sleep then too! if only i'd know she was going to sleep long!!!"

and for the record, you DON"T sound like a horrible mother at all! I laff when you talk about being hormonal, i have no AF (yet) but dh says i am constantly in a state of PMT!!!! I'm ok when i'm rested, but that rarely happens!!!

Poor Christy - that paed. doctor - yuck. So negative and totally dismissive of your empirical knowledge. All your observations of how your bub is are VERY valid and should NOT be dismissed.

Belinda - did you get to go out tonight? I wanna hear all about it!! i'm not going anywhere apart from physio appointments and once a week grocery dash, so i might as well enjoy your outing vicariously!!! ha ha

Meredith, when you talk about Pinky, do you mean that Pinky MacKay that is on TV sometimes? Wow, you're lucky!!!

Does anyone have routines for handling "going out time" with their bub?
Like today, i knew we were being picked up around 9.30 for physio appointment.
So i rouse bub at 9am to give me time to change her and feed her before we get collected. Then we're out all morning, she doesn't get her sleep, she gets some play with my parenting support worker who minds her while i'm in with the physio, but bubs is all ratty afterwards, won't feed properly cos it's 36 degrees. We're home around 1 and she spends the rest of the day not feeding properly and not sleeping for more than 15mins.

WHen we are home normally, she has these cycles of change - feed - play - sleep and it works great. As soon as we go anywhere, this all goes to mush!!!!

What do the rest of you do for outings?

I get all nervous when i'm out, like if i wrap bubs up for her sleep, people feel obliged to tell me "won't she get hot? won't she feel trapped etc" - even though i know it's what my baby actually likes and responds to, and i use the thinnest muslin wraps anyhow, so to avoid the comments, i stop doing it, and then she doesn't get a sleep.

When i go out i try make it so thats it's after Emelia has feed, been changed and had a play so i know she will fall asleep in the car on the way to the shops or if not in the car i know she will fall asleep in the pram..sometimes can take a little while as she only likes it in her own cot so she fights it alot when im out. but i find if i have an appointment i always try get the earliest one so i can get her up bath her feed her and all that take her there so shes in her happy playing mood (and theres always ppl around that just talk to her so shes happy as can be!!) then i get her home in time for her nap.

btw dont let other ppl stop u from doing wat u know ur baby likes, Emelia always has to have a blanket on even in the heat thats wat is comfortable for her. everyones always gonna have there opinion but u know ur baby best :D

Well i did go out and i am home now eating reheated pizza, unfortunately i was bloated before i went out so didnt help me much, had a good night though but glad its over, so you didnt miss much lol, but if one more guy had stared at me i would of had to of poked his eyes out with a stick, and i am not being at all love myself there, they just stare and i am sure there parents at one point in life told them its rude to stare!
Oh a teenager tried to pick me up lol, poor guy probably needed glasses but hey good boost to the old ego

Hi gigi, you came to mind as I was feeding aston in the wee hours this morning. I was thinking about your question about going out. Like blanchie I tend to leave after Aston has had a feed, and play, and would be getting ready to have a sleep, and he ususally falls asleep in the car - mind you I live about half an hour from where ever I usually want to go to. When we are out, I haven't had to wrap him, but do put the muslin wrap tucked in over him in the pram. Having said that I wouldn't hesistate to wrap him if he wasn't settling. the wrap, the dummy and tigger next to him are all the sleep cues that he has at home, lay him out on the wrap, pop the dummy in, and you can see him falling into the mode of sleeping most of the time. I'm pretty sure that I'm going to have to start taking tigger with us when we venture out soon, because he cuddles up next to him. (very cute) I also have some things for him to "play" with attached to the pram. do you have some toys for her to look at and touch while your out? kind of replicates that play time at home iykwim. As for "other" people - you know what works for bub. your her mummy darlin, bugger what they say. lots of people have asked me about the whole wrapping thing too, and I just reply that it makes them feel safe because its familiar just like being in the womb. if its really hot, i still wrap aston, I just do it with only a nappy on him. Hope that helps a bit.

ROLMAO Belinda. Way to go. and definately a boost to the ego! Not bad after having had three bubs, one of them just months ago! Must of been nice to have some"me" time though.

I'm doing a survey - no not really, just being nosey, and curious to know how old we all are. Some of you have your age in your Signatures. but the rest of us are guarding it with our lives...lol. I'm 37 (OMG 3 years of forty!!!) I bet I end up being the oldest one in here!

I think Aston has gone back to sleep now. He woke up with this god awful choking sound. DH and I were out of bed like bullets, poor little guy was "choking" on his spit I think. Tears and all. Settled him down, and fed him, but of course he was wide awake then. But it sounds like he is making sleeping noises now, so on that note I'm going back to bed to make my own sleeping noises....

well i'm soo glad Dd isnt the only one to stare blanckly at the camera!!lol!! i have worked out though, first thing in the morning after first feed, she's at ther best smiles and talks heaps, this is when i find i can get the best shots.
christy soory about your appt, bad bad man should have asked him is he's even got kids!! probably doesnt...
Gigi i try and make all my appointments int he morning and feed before we go out, dd doesnt sleep much when were out so usually home and fed and put to bed, even if she's not due for a feed usually just top her up.
Vicky hope you have a great week with your mum and grrrrr to AF... i thought i'd get mine early as DD goes 12-13 hours over night..doesnt make sense hey

Hello all!! I hope you are all having a good weekend, I'm going well after that nasty appt thanks ;)

Vicky I'm 32.

I have a hard time keeping up with personals... I get limited time on & sometimes I have to put my mod hat on & actually do some work around here ;)

I've found a way to get Jovie to sleep happily!!! I lay down with her in bed & within 5 minutes she's asleep. :o I did it yesterday & today and she's so happy laying in our bed. So I think we will get a cot & put it next to our bed at the level & graduate her into there now. So sad, such a short time in the hammock, but thats okay I'll sell it, after I'm sure she's liking the cot.

Christy: Cooper loves our bed too, will go to sleep so quickly during the day if we put him on there, in bassinett no chance, but he will sleep soundly all night in basinett, he has just decided its not for day sleeps i guess lol, glad its worked out though :)

well i havent done much else, still so bloated from before i went out last night, nothing is helping it, very annoying

Ella loved the soft mattress too. But now she loves her cot. As soon as she gets in there with a dummy...zzzzzzzz

I've been using the swing with her but she's not really into it. Most of the time she throws up so i've decided to pack it away for the time being.

Ella gets her second shots on Thursday. I know we've been through it before but i'm still nervous about it. This time i'll give her the panadol before the shots to help with the fever as its going to be quite warm here on the day.

Vicky - I'm 35 so not far behind you and with only my first bub so far. Hoping we can squeeze in at least one (hoping 2) more before my eggs get to old. Are you going to brave another outing soon and leave DH with aston? My DH is going on a boy's golf w/e in a few weeks. I said ok as truthfully it won't make much difference to me as I deal with Logan on my own mostly anyway. I did make a deal, however, that if he gets a w/e away, I at least deserve a few hrs to myself whilst he looks after his son. We'll see how that one goes!

Christy - WTF!!!! Bet you'll never see that paed again. Maybe you should consider a second opinion - I am sure there are plenty more understanding paeds out there.
Glad you are getting the sleeping sorted for Jovie. I am keen to to the "side car" cot arrangement but can't until we move as our current bedroom won't fit the cot next to our bed.

Gigi - I do the same as the others - feed and play then go out and hope we get some sleep somewhere in the travels - doesn't always work but then he doesn't sleep well at home anyway.
Wrap DD if you need to -forget what others think.

Belinda - well done on becoming a "yummy mummy". Bet all the younger ones would get a shock if they saw you pull out a boob to feed Cooper

HI Girlie girls...I have been so flat out the last three days, with no end in sight til Wednesday...but its been great. I picked up my mum on Saturday morning, and DH took the big kids fishing, to meet up with us later that day at the resort she is staying at. It was lovely, as I was able to spend some time with mum, and she could fuss over her newest grandchild. Had a great day though, and then yesterday celebrated my mums 60th birthday. Aston had his first swim in the pool...I was so excited, lol, and he loved it. We dashed down to Big W to get him a swimsuit, little swimmer nappies, and a swim ring...lol. Today we went on a party pontoon up the river, and tomorrow we are off to Australia Zoo. Mum is talking about moving up here at the end of the year. which would be lovely.

Meredith - I hope you get your couple of hours darlin, because yes you definately deserve it! I haven't ventured out again leaving Aston with DH yet. I think it really knocked his self confidence around. But will do it again soon. I think its all a matter of timing. the witching hours is probably not the best time to go. Try for the morning next time...my have better success. Good luck at sleep school - I hope it offers some solutions for you hun.

Breasxtfeeding and teething - i really wonder how you are meant to train your bub NOT to bite you etc, i am SOOOO dreading that phase, hoping it won't mean early weaning.

Going to see GP about rota virus avoidance today, have heard so many conflicting reports on tv on what it costs so am finding out direct from gp once and for all. Apparently it's given at two, four and six months so as tiny bilby is three months, i need to find out if she's even allowed to have it a month late. It's alot of money but i feel i should find out more. Must be the over anxious older mother in me, poor tiny bilby is not much of a smiler, maybe i looked too serious, traumatic birth, two months of being immobile and pain, being stuck at home, unable to go out independently until i buy a car (so very limited socialisation or experiencing the world for her). I love her so much and am now healthy enough to enjoy her so she lots of smiles now (comparatively) so i hope to whatever, that she catches up (with the smiling). I didn't mean to be a bad role model for smiling (or lack of).

Gigi-your not a bad role model of smiling.....your a great mum and Bilby is lucky to have you. Dont be hard on ur self hun... ur trying your best and at the end of the days thats wat matters!!!!!

Jovie has been dribbling heaps & she's always been pulling off the bb's well for the past 2 months she's done it but she's started chomping down a bit. Owie... I don't look forward to teeth either. I have heard discussions about it before and a lot of mum's tend to take them off once they bite & put them down so they associate biting with being taken away from the breast. I know thats probably what I'll try if it happens. Matilda didn't get teeth until she was 13 months so I'm hoping Jovie will be a late teether as well.

Just got back from mothers group we went to the movies, havent been in so long..wasnt the best of movies it was that bebele the one with brad bitt and kate blanchett anywaya it was still nice to relax! I was abit worried about taking Emelia i was almost going to leave her at the creche but couldnt bring myself to just yet! She was quiet good considering she loves her own cot and hardly sleeps anywhere else but she slept for about 20 mins then watched some of the movie then had her bottle then Bee our Leader she took her of my hands so i could finish watching the movie and she fell asleep for her so it was a nice break:)we are going to yoga next week lol should b interesting i might even leave Emelia at the Creche (we will see!) not to keen on it just yet:D

My mothers group was so bad i only went once...and now the leader keeps calling me to come back, but with a new group. I cant anyhow... i work on fridays now...and i feel it wasnt for me any ways. i have met new freinds other ways.

But... wat id do to have a nice relaxing day with no child and no husband....just me and me! My friend comes down in 2 weeks and she is going to watch Chelsea for a bit while i go have my hair done so im looking forward to that!

I have my u/s tmrw for M2.....and im so excited. MS still hasnt hit so its been a breeze as far as that goes... Chelsea has been good.... seems to be sleeping a bit more now since she started going to my friends....i think she is putting her into a routine?!! I have noticed now when she has her bottles she tends to play and giggle at me instead of drinking....lil monster!!

Morning everyone...

Dating scan went well...im a lil upset.... edd is now 21/10 so im a week less then i thought... but was a good heart beat and a tiny blob. In fact it is .460cm.....lol so not even 1cm big.....tiny tiny thing.

Chelsea was being a sticky beak the whole time....just like mum! She was so tired tho....we went when its normally her nap time...so thankfully she has gone down now. Having problems with her vomitting again.....its never after her bottle but some 1-3 hours later.....?? I see the nurse next week so ill see wat she makes of it.

Yay kim, on the positive u/s. lol at chelsea sticky beaking. Hear you on the time out just for you - wouldn't it be lovely!! I'm seriously going to express some milk so I can go and play somewhere - anywhere.

Blanche - your a busy girl aren't you.. brilliant that you have such a great mother's group though.

Christy - how did everything go at the doctors with your blood test hun? How you doing in general? I peeked at your photos - Matilda is a doll, and Jovie had so much hair when she was born. Any recent ones for me to sticky beak at?

Gigi - hugs hun - put away that whip that you keep flogging yourself with, and start patting yourself on the back instead. Sometimes I swear us mums are our own worst enemies. Motherhood is hard, and no amount of forewarning prepares you for the torrent of emotions that you constantly feel, and if the beginning was traumatic to start, all the more harder to get your head wrapped around. The only control you have is the day your in hun, so live each one, one at a time.

Well its been flat out for me - we went to Australia Zoo yesterday - and it was bloody HOT - poor aston suffered for it, we ended up leaving at 3, after not seeing everything but it was just too hot. got an annual membership though, so we can go back again and again and again. so hopefully each time round we can see a little more.

today i am doing as little as possible. nat had a sleep over at mum's, lauras turn tonight.

Kim i'm glad all went well with the scan, are you finding out the sex?? next scan??

Sophie had here 4 month needles on wednesday, stuck her on the boob and only one little cry! had a temp though yesterday so gave some panadol. sophie is now only 5700g at 17 weeks and now under for everything :( so i'm on sustigen drinks and feeding 2 hourly during the day to try and get more into her though only feeing 5-6 times in 24 hours due to her long night sleeps, so getting weighed again on monday to see how much shes put on in the week, but if she has my metabolism then shes not going to be a big girl!! i'm off to mums for mums meeting on tuesday at my health centre for mums with PND so i'll see how that goes, i broke down with my nurse on monday at sophies appointment and we both think it could benefit me.

AJP I hope she puts on some weight, that would be scary worrying about weight.

Jovie's been waking every 2 hours overnight the last 2 nights hungry, so I think we are going through a big growth spurt. And I'm absolutely exhausted. She also just rolled from her back to front YAY! Just once ;) but I'm excited.

christy what does Jovie weigh?? i dont think sophie will ever roll, she's too lazy!!!!
sophie is still sleeping up to 14 hours a night so i figured if she was hungry wouldnt she wake??????

:hug: AJP, glad that you are doing something proactive darlin. Hope that Sophie puts on some weight for you. Its stressful enough just being mum, let alone worry about weight as well.

Aston seems to have been feeding heaps again in the last few days, the heat has gotten worse, and he has woken more in the night, for a feed. plus i have been flat out. just to add more things into my life (like there isnt enough already!!!) we are moving in two weeks. ARHGHGHG!!!!! so thats going to be fun fun fun. packing with a 3mth old. oh joy.

Christy I'm exhausted too. I want to sleep for a day or two. When we move aston will be going into his own room, so maybe. fingers crossed, he will sleep better at night....well I can live in hope.

i guess the packing aint gonna do itself. but I am tempted to get someone in to do it, that plus the cleaning, and the garden....

AJP - is the child health nurse concerned? Sophie may just be a petite little thing. not all babies have to be big fat chubbas, after all we as adults are different eh. what was her starting weight?

Vicky, nurse is starting to get a little concerned as she only put on 230 in 4 weeks, but i'm tall 1.78cm and slim 56kg, so i dont expect her to be big her starting weight was 7lb 5oz or 3.3kg

your probably right AJP, she has your metabolism. and i think she would be waking at night if she was hungry too. i guess you will just have to wait and see what happens eh. is she feeding everytime you offer her the breast, or is she just looking at you like - what again?? I just fed! And if she is having lots of wet nappies during the day I thought that was a good indicator too that she would be getting enough. Sometimes I wish there was a little window so you could see if it had reached the full indicator...lol. I've been stressing this week because I think aston has lost weight - but i'll have him weighed on monday and go from there. he has been feeding a lot more the last few days, so my supply is probably low from everything i have been doing. yesterday and today I have hung at home, just dont have the energy to do anything. but have to pack... think i'll go and cry now...lol I hate moving. anyone got a magic wand I can borrow?

thanks vicky, she has plenty of wet and dirty nappies, lol at the full indicator!! when i was feeding 3 hourly they were good feeds with the 2 hour feeds i feel like i'm always topping her up! so will continue til monday weigh her and go from there. get drinking darl, heaps of water or milshakes/smoothies that should help increase the supply

Gee u have been a chatty bunch this morning!!!
I am ment to be at work but argh,.,at 6am i felt so damn crook i couldnt get out of bed! So DH ordered i stay home. Not long ago got outta bed..Chelsea still sleep!!

I got a qu. She is only getting 4 bottles in a day MAX. Is this ok? My formula says she should be on 5 feeds a dat @200ml each. DD is just making 4 and only 160-170 ml. She appears to be getting fatter and heavier.....im just worried now. I have a appt with the nurse next weds... but i thought id ask for ur opinions here too...

AJP-Chelsea has always been under everything for her age from day one. My nurse calls her a petite little thing too......def didnt not get that from her mummy or daddy!! I go back to the doctors on 20th march...i think my next scan wil be the 20 week one and we are not finding out the sex...i liked my surprise last time.....i hope this time my surprise has something between the legs!!!!

AJP - Matilda fed every 2 hours for the first 4 months and was very slim... she went from 95% at birth to 25% (mainly due to reflux). Jovie has stayed at 75% she was born 4kg and is now 6.3kg.... don't know when she's put weight on because I have only weighed her 3 times LOL... I didn't want to stress about it like I did with Matilda. Like Vicky said, wet nappies are the indicator ;)

Kim if Chelsea is good with her nappies she's good. 6 wet nappies a day is the most important thing ;)

Kim - Emelia has 4 bottles a day she is having 200mls each bottle but thats cos she is a chubba!!

last time she was weighed she was 6.6kg...and that was a month ago, off the chart :s i go back on tuesday to HN so will be interesting...

had her appt for her arm today, they were really happy that it has improved on its own with the excersises and doc said no need for surgery at this stage she may need surgery later on when she is a bit older but that was a maybe, i go back again next month just for a checkup, so gotta keep doing the excersises and hopefully it will be 100 percent:D fingers crossed..physio was really pleased aswell.

Such a busy week, I haven't been able to get on.

AJP - I am sure your little girl is just that- little. Try not to worry to much ( I know easier said than done) but thats why all the charts have ranges and averages. Some babies have to be big and others very small to make up an average. Does she seem well other than her size?

Vicky - Aggh, moving! We will be doing the same in the next couple of mths and I am dreading it. Good luck and if you discover any tips, please let me know!

Kim - is the m/s kicking in? Are you going to keep on working right through the pg?

Christy - Hope Jovie gets over the growth spurt soon. She was sleeping really well through the night wasn't she?

Blanchie - yay at Emelia rolling over! Logan has done so only twice and I missed one as he was with my mum!

We went to Tweddle (sleep school) on Tuesday. Was truly awful!! So glad my DH came with me otherwise he would have thought I was overreacting. Basically seemed like a baby "boot camp" and we spent the whole day listening to babies screaming including our own.
The staff must be desensitised to it all but I couldn't stand even hearing other peoples babies crying out, So uch for not doing CC with babies under 6mths.
Stupid lady kept telling me Logan was just protesting and the crying was "good" because he was learning - WTF!!! Didn't want me to pick him up even when he was hysterical, claiming he was fine and that she would tell me if she thought he was distressed enough to pick up. MY DH was almost more distressed than me. God bless him for standing up and saying "enough is enough". I thin k I was just in stunned silence but by the afternoon session, I was brought to tears and stopped it myself.
We got Logan to sleep ourselves in 1/4 of the time without any tears.
The whole system was just to "scripted" -not allowing for individual baby temperaments.
And they didn't adress my main concern of the 45min catnapping -how to resettle him. I can now get him to sleep fairly well but he can't get through that sleep cycle. NO answers from tweddle - I just kept getting told that he just has to learn to go in a cot and that I was the one holding him back from learning good sleep habits! That was the answer to everything! Oh, and they also said I was overfeeding (usually 3hrly but more if he demands it) I am BFing for goodness sake!!
Oh well, I came away fairly disgusted but more confident that what I am doing at home is possibly the best thing for Logan regardless and i will tolerate his poor sleep rather than subject him to that distress again.
