Trish Kieran sound like Max...a total sleepy head! Before I read all this stuff I was thinking today if Max sleeps TOO much! He does his big long stints at night (yay for me) and does sleep for 1 - 2 hours at a time during the day. Sometimes he is so sleepy, he falls asleep while feeding (boobs will do that to you I guess!) and is totally passed out while I'm trying to get a burp out of him. It's so cute though!!
I'm trying to do again tonight what I did last night, so lets see. His last feed was at about 7pm, and it's 9:30 now....He didn't cry when I put him down and hasn't stirred....therefore I'm going to bed!
Got a busy day tomorrow, all of our friends are meeting down at the beach and we have all bought SS presents for eachother. Should be a great day!
P.S Getting close to 30....29 in May....which I'm pretty OK with!!
Pffft Leah- never too old! My grandma was 50 when she had my mum. A bit of an accident. :D
Nice one Rebecca- you'll never forget your 30th! That would mean you are due for a birthday soon too....
Off to south melbourne market to buy some food for chrissy.............
Ange - I turned 30 in August, I was dreading it, I didn't even have a party because I didn't feel it was something to celebrate!! But then I realised I felt the same as the day before when I was still 29, so it's not that bad, I promise!
YAY YAY YAY!!!
We followed Dunstans baby language thing to a T yesterday - my little munchkin slept from 9 pm until 330 am last night! 1st time ever! Then she slept from 415 until just now - of course - just when I am squeezing in a coffee!!!
However - it may also be because we started back with Infacol yesterday afternoon.
The Dunstan lady just needs to figure out the "words" for bored and overstimulated and my life would be EASY!!
Ange - Yeah end of January I am turning 31 :( but they say you are only as old as the man you feel - therefore I just turned 25 :P
Nice new name Ange!!
I'll be 30 in August 2009! a few months back i thought i was turning 30 in 08 so i was pleasantly surprised when DH informed me im 28 not 29 LOL!
Second that Trish on Aldi nappies. I havent tried Tyron in them yet but will buy some next time i go. Nixon is in them, never suited him early on but from 6months or so he's been in them.
DH is suppose to be taking Nixon & our neice to the Wiggles concert today but currently waiting for Nixon to wake and see how he is. He was up vomitting last night from 2.30-4.30am poor thing. In the last week he has gotten so skinny because he hasnt been eating (had tonsilitis) i just want him good for xmas this illness has been going on 3weeks now.
Thankfully Tyron slept through it all, fed him at 10.30pm woke at 4.45 popped the dummy in and woke to feed at 6am. i was feediing him on the lounge thismorning falling asleep
oh and regards to that baby whisperer woman, i havent got te dvd but a friend of mine had, when she visited and Tyron was 4weeks old one time he cried she said i think he is hungry. and sure enough i learnt that cry made it a lot easier! I was a neh sound. but u can really only pick up those sounds in the first 12weeks and already i dot hear them as often. i cant remember the other ones but there was one for tired, wind pain, and a few others.
Julia sounds like a lovely day!
Nic - I am with you in that I could hear the sounds in Max's cries very early on, but now, because of routine, I actually know what he wants, before he wants it. It makes for a very content little baby!
Rebecca - Maybe once you know the cries more you can pre-empt them? With overstimulated and bored, with Max I just sort of time how long he has been awake. I tend to try not to let him go over 1.5 hours of awake time, or else he gets too tired before then. Also, I went to my work the other day and there was so many people in his face. He hated it...overstimulated!! Bored....well I just make sure he has fun with lots of talking and playing in his awake time....mind you, some of that time is taken up by feeding, which I'm sure he doesn't mind! Anything that helps is a good thing!
I did the routine again last night as I did the night before and he did even better at it. In bed by 7:40pm and I can hear him talking to himself in his cot now at about 6:30am! I'll just have a shower, and by then he should be ready for feed and the start of another lovely day in Perth. The weather here has been so nice...but Xmas day and Boxing day are going to be 38...Yuck!
Hi all
Geez Im not used to these early mornings! Even with 2 babies, we all manage to sleep in until 9am most mornings! For some reason though, I cant sleep today! Wide awake! LOL
Nickers - You poor thing! POor little Nixon. He has had this sickness for a while hey? My fingers are crossed do tight that he is ok for Christmas, poor little guy. *Hugs* - Oh, and how cute is Tyron's picture????
Rebecca & Minimax - Glad to hear your bubbas are sleeping well! It makes such a difference hey?
Ange - Geez, 50!! What a credit to her! I dont think I could do it! Geez 50 is my Mums age, and the thought of her having another baby is just funny.... LOL
Well hope you all have a wonderful day! Hope not too many of you have shopping to do, there is no way I am going anywhere near the shops this weekend! Crazy.....
Hmmm - was just thinking too - it could be because she barely sleeps during the day and when she does it is normally only for an hour or so. I did read somewhere that you shouldnt put them where they sleep at night for their daytime naps - she just goes in her cot all the time - i figure she needs to associate the cot with sleep time. I dont know - going to try the bedtime routine that we did last night again tonight and see how we go - of course it is DH's turn to do a feed tonight cause he doesnt have to work tomorrow.
Caitlyn likes to be carried around for her play time and talked to and she loves watching the dogs outside run around and chase each other - not that I think she can see that far just yet. I can tell when she is tired now even without the cry sound - its not hard to tell really! And I can already pre-empt that cry. When I take her into work (she sees her surrogate grandma there - my boss!!) she sleeps. I take her there when I want to do grocery shopping so that I can do it without her. Its so funny - I walk in the door with her and my boss gets off the phone and runs to the loo to wash her hands and then I hand her over! She loves it - Caitlyn and my boss! Luckily where I work there are 6 staff and thats it! So not too many people in her face.
The overstimulated thing is hard - dont think she has been over stimulated yet. Maybe the first day we got her play gym thingy - she wanted to play with all of it. Now she just likes the mirror and rattle thing. She talks to the baby in the mirror - its sooooo cute.
38 hey? Its been that most days here already. DH is from WA and he reckons the weather there is very similar to here - hot and dry.
Julia - do you take Ethan for walks during the day? I don't like to cause I worry that its too hot for her but I go stir crazy in the house all day. And there isnt that many places that I can take her. There are barely any shops here to walk around and browse so thats no good. I would love to take her for walks - maybe hjelp me shift some of this weight! Mind you - those choccie biscuits in the cupboard arent doing me any favours either! :P
Yay Rebecca!!! What a great sleep for you both!
I saw that Dunstan lady on Oprah before Kieran was even a thought (!) and wrote down all the main key words. I tried to hear them in Kieran, but I really can't. But like MiniMax said, because K is in a routine I know what his cries mean anyway and he is a pretty happy boy.
Kieran only lasts 45 minutes to an hour for wake time (this includes his feed). I thought he needed longer and was keeping him up, but he was really unhappy and then wouldn't sleep well for his nap. I found a site that said babies of his age only need 45 minutes of wake time and I realised if I looked at the time, K would start getting cranky around that time. I thought I'd give it a go and put him to bed even though I didn't think he'd sleep all the way through to his next feed, but he did! Ever since then he has been so much happier and sleeping like a champ!
These babies take so much to figure out! I wish I knew all this when Joel was his age, I think life would have been a bit easier.
Rebecca - I've never heard about not putting babies to sleep in the day where they sleep at night. I put Kieran in his cot both day and night and have no problems. It's always worth a try though if it isn't working for you!
I honestly think routine is the key to having a content baby. Not to mention a laid back Mum! I think the babes can pick up when you are stressed out and it can all just go downhill...which isn't good for a stressed out Mum. It all just goes in a vicious cycle!
Trish - our boys sound very similar, I just had to wake Max for his 7am feed (boobies were full and overflowing!) and he's gone back to sleep an hour later. I find the more he sleeps, the better he is.
Rebecca - Maybe you can try to put Caitlyn in a different sleeping position? I know it's a bit of a taboo subject, but with Max during the day, sometimes if he is a bit unsettled, I sleep him on his side, or even his tummy. He is pretty comfortable in this position, and it also makes it easier to re-settle him without picking him up. Other ways I got him to sleep better was I put something soft for him to sleep on in his cot, instead of just the mattress and the sheet. He's been much easier to settle since I did that. I also make sure his room is dark and I shut all the doors so it's as quiet as possible. He also loves socks! They make him cozy!
It is strange, during the day Max likes to sleep in a differnt posi, but as soon as he's had his bath and his last feed for the day, he is on his back all night. It must be the associations he has between day and night! I'm not complaining!
Rebecca - glad to hear Caitlyn slept well for you. I think the one thing Dunstan doesn't carry is the non-verbal cues they give off, like thrashing their arms about and yawning... I'm still yet to figure out some of Tahlias non verbal signs
Nickers - hope Nixon is better, and well enough to enjoy the Wiggles
Tahlia had a really good night last night, went down at about 10.30, and didnt wake until 6, then had a little fed and slept again till 9!
Maddi also had a good night, went down at 10:30 woke at 5am then went back down & woke up at 10am.
i used to put Nixon to sleep in his rocker, swing whatever during the day and cot at night so he assoc it with night time and it seemed to work well for him.
With Tyron though its a bit different, his bassinett is about the only place i can put him where Nixon wont get to him lol! an because he has been sick i've been TRYING to keep them away from each other he has been in his bed a lot more.
Dh has just left with Nic to the wiggles he seemed excited so hope he is ok! My neice is also 20months shope they both behave fo dh or he wont want to do anything like that again!
MiniMax - Our boys do sound very similar!
Kellie - What a great night Tahlia had!
Mo - Wow, Maddi had a MASSIVE sleep, you probably didn't know what to do with yourself!
Nic - I hope Nixon has fun at the Wiggles concert, that's great he was well enough to go.
We finished up all our Christmas loose ends today, hooray, no more trips to the shops!!!! We bought some Barrimundi to test drive tonight (we are making some for Christmas day and thought we'd try our recipe out first before making it for everyone) and Joel calls it Barri-monkey! So cute!
Hi ladies,its been a while!
I have been enjoying my angel every minute I can before I had to start working again, even though I am working from home and not leaving her at all. I just want to give her as much of my time as possible.
Tiera has been rolling from her belly to her back for the past 2 1/2 weeks which is exciting! We have video'd it a few times, but you cn only tape it a few times, after all she does the same thing each time! lol
Tiera had her 6-8week check on Thurs and all is great! She's 55cms and 4.46kgs. Nurse said she's bright, alert, happy and healthy little girl. No probs at all!
I had my 6w check 2 Tues ago. Things are healing up, but still not completely repaired. There are stitchers down there! Was told not to DTD for another few weeks and have to put cream on scar each night. Not really what I wanted to hear, but wasn't too supprised. I still have pain when I go to the toilet . Oh well, I'm getting there! :D
Take care all and have a great Chrsitmas with your new family's!
Hi all
Leah - I am glad there are some older girls here (mid - late 30s). I'll be 34 in Feb. Ursula's ticker says 36 so she is one of us too! What do they say? 40 is the new 30? So I figure that would make me 24! LOL
Having a great time with my parents here. Its the first time Step Dad has met Lachlan and they have taken to each other. Mum was here for the week after the birth, but he has changed so much during the last 7 weeks.
DH is off to a Bucks Night on the Gold Coast. Hopefully it won't get too messy. Anyway L and I will be on our own. The dogs will be keeping guard. Anyway, if last night was any indication I'll probably be awake for much of it!
Not much else happening. Got to go out before Xmas Day to get DH a present. I thought we'd decided to get ourselves something after Xmas, but yesterday DH puts a present for me under the tree. I feel so bad now as DH knows I haven't got him something yet! Only problem is I don't know what to get him!
Hope everyone is having a good day.
