forgot to add:
julia - the boy used to be hopeless overnight with leaking with all his moving about. i followed mo's suggestion (from her friend) and i use two nappies. usually i use a smaller-cut one inside (like huggies or other) and a big one (like a Mamia Large - Aldi) on the outside or i just use two the same depending on if i can be arsed going out to get more.
with the inside one, i direct the tabs along the groin line, instead of straight across. with the outside one, i put the tabs firmly straight across the top like a belt. i find when he's on his tum (or crawling) it's more likely to leak out the top if full. HTH... worked for us.
ange - man, how awful is egg central? i spend my days hovering trying to slow his fall. i don't stop him falling because i like him to know about gravity, i just try to save the noggin whack. he was playing with his stroller wheel the other day and cracked his head on the tiles so hard i felt sick. oh.. he even did the silent cry (worst!). thank dog for boobie though - can cure anything. what will i do when he's off the boob? which leads me to my next question:
for the boob feeders - how long are you planning to stick at it? i'm thinking until he's allowed cow's milk (if he likes it).
more questions:
1) what do y'all do about feeding solids when out and about? j-bird is SUCH a spreader that i can't even imagine giving him solids when i'm out.
2) does anyone have a jogger pram... or have they tried jogging w/ pram?
on another note... seeing james in cords, and how soft and comfy they look, makes me really want to get a pair or two... god, what's happened to me. are cords illegal?
kimb - i was thinking about what you said. don't sweat it, chief. really, each baby is such a wonderful, unique and totally precious little gift that i can't imagine ever fretting over who is doing what. like the others, my boy does some things and not others... like... doesn't have teeth or sleep through EVER!! it's nice to just crap on about what he does do on here... rest assured, there's no prize for first baby to leave home (i'll be the one sobbing!)
i'm off to have my second coffee of the day...
eta: trish - law is a ways off. i'll be at home with this pie for as long as i possibly can. yes, melbourne is still on. hoping for oct/nov.
-
Julia - I've been experimenting with night nappies for months now. So far, no success. We even wet through a monster of a cloth night nappy which other babies have no probs with :dunno: Current plan of action is boosted Bum G from bed time till 10pm feed, then I change him to an Aldi sposie. I HATE that I still have to use sposies and that I still have to change him overnight, but I just can't find anything else that works. L is a tummy/side sleeper too.
Viv - I've actually seen some skinny leg cords around the traps lately that don't look at all illegal. Probably not the soft and comfy kind, but still cords.
Ange - DH has a massive head and I've got a bigger than normal one too apparently. Our pead measured and charted both our heads - DH is literally off the charts and I'm right at the top for females. So more than likely genetic, but I still hate the extra worry. We're due for a noggin' check about now. Hoping it's still OK and don't have to call his paed again. At the moment, he's happy not to see him till 12 months, and I hope it stays that way.
So we're up to night 3 of absolute horror - I have no idea what's wrong with him. He's never been like this before at night, not even when cutting his teeth. He has always fed and settled straight back to sleep without a peep. I was up with him for AN HOUR last night trying to settle him. So we're off the GP today to have him checked over, just want to rule out ear infections etc in light of his recent cold. DH and I have also decided to back off on the food - he vomited and gagged again last night at dinner time, so could just be an over full, uncomfy tum :dunno:
-
Trish- all good, breast lumps all normal, chest clear, bloods fine. thank goodness! Went shopping, DJ's have a sale on. spent too much but got a couple of bargains.
Viv- Food when out...... Sometimes i give her a baby mum-mum cracker thing, or a bread crust and try and sneak a few mashed mouthfulls in when she's not looking. I have given her carrot and broc, which make minimal mess. I avoid zucc, pumpkin avacoda etc when out (unless mashed). Too messy... The other thing i do is get a bite sized piece of what i'm eating and put in her gob, less mess that way too! but she still feel like a big girl. Oh i have given her the rafferty's slop when out occasionally, it's the only mushy stuff she loves. dunno why, maybe the apple in it.
As i was shoving boob in her mouth to stop the wail, i was wondering the same thing...... what do i do when she's not having boob?! My plan is roughly same as yours....... until 12 months, unless she self weans before then. nothing set in concrete, will see how she's going and how i am feeling.
I 'think' about running and my boobs hurt! The best i do is a pram powerwalk. I really should get back into it though. I think if you are going to do it seriously, then those specialised jogger prams are the WTG. good suspension, big wheels and all that. My feet would hit my pram i think, not that i have tried.
Willow- big heads are for big brains! ;)
-
Viv - I'm hoping to BF until K is 12 months all going well. K doesn't comfort suck so that's one thing I don't have to worry about I guess! When he's cracked it he doesn't want a bar of it.
Ange - I'm glad your tests all came back good! Yay for some bargains! I forgot DJs is having a sale, we should go tomorrow. MIL works at the one at The Glen so we get an extra discount when she's working.
Willow - DH has a massive head too! Like Ange, he says it's because he has a big brain!! Unfortunately he really is smart so I can't argue with him lol!
-
Took L to the GP today but he couldn't find anything physically wrong (was mainly thinking his ears due to recent cold etc) so we're still at a loss. We are thinking though that we might be feeding him too much at night and this is upsetting his tummy. We discussed it with the GP and he said that if we are overfeeding him, it can cause reflux (he vomited again last night while eating his dinner). Anyone know if this is legit or not? I thought only milk caused reflux but maybe food on top of milk on top of food would do it too?? I guess food gives adults the same thing...
So, current plan is to back off the food a bit, especially at night, and see how he goes.
The GP gave him a thorough check up and was really happy with him, said his development is probably up there with a 9 month old (ahhh, proud mama!). He weighs nearly 10 kg!! Said it was OK to delay the vax a bit longer till I'm happy he's 100% well and if I want we can do them separately (but didn't sound enthused about it LOL).
-
i have heard the over feeding, vomit thoery before Willow..... mabye feed him a bit earlier too, more time to digest before bed.
-
Woohoo!!! Long weekend is here!!! Off to the Coast in the morning once drop the puppies off at Grandmas.
Food out and about - only give L bottles when we are out, but yesterday he grabbed at the Club Sandwich I was having for lunch so I gave him a crust of bread to suck on. He loved it! Think most of it ended up as moosh all over him, but it gave him something to suck on and stop attacking my lunch. Going to pack a few of those rusks that MIL gave me ages ago for when we are out.
Starting to think that L might be more of a finger food than a spoon fed type of bub.
L's ear is giving him grief atm. Not sure if he is teething, its his cold, or an ear infection. His poor ear and cheek are red from where he's rubbed at it :( He went to sleep ok tonight tho so we'll see. I'll be sure to pack the panadol for our trip JIC.
When we looked at prams I was told most 3 wheelers aren't jogger prams eventho they are labelled as such. I think you need to ask which brand is made especially for jogging. Jogging? Me? No way!!!!!
Nappies - L is a tummy sleeper and we have always used Huggies and rarely have a problem. I make sure I change his nappy when I do his 10pm feed and by 7am his nappy is pretty full but he's still dry. At daycare today he had 2 "accidents". They do cloth and someone didn't put his pilchers on properly. Good news is their policy is that they clean the clothes and sheets when he has an accident. Bonus! Missed the discussion about the double layering. Interesting!
Be back on Monday. Have a good weekend all.
-
Thanks for the tips Gals...will try double nappy, or even boost with his BumG thing into the sposie.
Viv Your questions...
Boobing...I will do whatever, but will probably do same as you and get him off when he can have cows milk.
Out and about feeding. I take along his home made stuff in a little lunchbox (which are now very funky!) and just feed as I would at home...but without the high chair! Will occasionally take a rafferty's....Max luuurves them!
Jogger pram...me jog?...never!
Chords....Viv to be honest I am quite a fan of the wondersuit...wondering if they can start making them for adults. How COZY! But wouldn't exactly bring sexy back in the bedroom....actually, they would be a pretty good contraceptive!
Willow...yes you should be well proud! As should we all :) Hope your horror nights come to an end soon.
Bye for now everyone, you lucky eastern staters...public holiday...we had ours last week!
Must go....
-
Waaaaaaaaa
We're in for another bad night, it's already been bad!
Trish - can you please come over to my house and sort this kid out for me like you did K?? Pretty please??
-
Julia- i'd put a microfleece liner over the BumG microfibre. Not sure why but microbibre feels horrible against your skin! ;)
Willow- it might get better!
-
-
How'd last night go Willow? I hope it wasn't as bad as you thought it would be!
K decided to have an extra long feed at 5am this morning for some reason. At least he went straight back to sleep afterwards, sometimes it's a struggle to get him back off after his early morning feed. I woke up at 7am to hear him saying "dad dad", it was so cute! He learned to say it this week and this morning was the first time he's woken up saying it. He's said "mum" once or twice and he says "yeah" (Joel used to always say that too!). DH asked him the other morning if he was going to be a good boy today and he said "yeahhhh", very funny :D
Hope you all have a great weekend. We don't have much on, we'll just play it by ear. Tonight we've got a birthday dinner for my step-dad and Grandpa. Grandpa's 84 and as fit as someone 20 years younger, he rocks!
-
Nice work big K- i figure if they saya dadda in the night, then the dad has to go! Don't want to confuse them.
The Guni has a new trick, she is pretty confident at pulling up on her trolley now, she wobbles across the room until she hits something and then YELLS OUT until i come and turn her around! She has NO idea how to get down. It looks pretty funny.
How'd you go Julia, any leaks?
Oh, i meant to say, guni has partial fussed labia, no big deal will fix itself over time as her hormones increase, but DH said to me, 'Ah well, at least we wont need a chastity belt when she gets older' men! Seriously is that all they think about!
-
Hey all, just popping in. Nothing much new here. Same old! Chels is rolling all over, sitting up, comando crawling, trying to pull herself up. She is a CHAMP at eating and even better at night (sorry). Sleeps from about 8pm til 8am, waking maybe once or twice just to pop her dummy in then straight back asleep.
Not much else thogh. My Birthday tomorrow but DH has to work so wont be doing a whole lot. Might go out for dinner depending what time he gets home. Other than that, a quiet one!
Hope you all have good weekends
-
ok pc was down for a few days so i have a bit of catch up, ive browsed passed sorry ive prob missed a stack.
doh i already forget what i was going to write! ok i will edit as i remember lol.
Saffi- congrats on L walking
Kim- if anyone knows what it feels like to have a baby not doing things other babies the same age are doing i do. I was and still am in two Baby buddies groups for Nixon. One for June (cause those were the girls that i went through my pg with) and one for April (cause thats the month he came)
Ppl were posting in BOTH threads when their babes were doing things and even the June babies were acheiving milestones before he was. also in our mothers group Nixon was the eldest out of 8 children but practically the last to do all of those things. Also most of the June buddies forgot to wish nixon a happy 2nd birthday, not cause they dont like me or him but brithday's wernt on their minds in April where as now in June every day its a happy birthday to someones little one. Its kinds in built in us i suppose for us to get a little down if u hear or see all these babies doing things that you'rs is not but on the same note mums get very proud an excited when their baby reaches those goals, and not to gloat or make it obvious to the ones who ARE NOT yet doing those things.
There are bubs in here that are born from mid Sept to early November too so even if every single child did the same thing at the same time there would still be a 7week wait for all of them to acheive.
i get excited when tyron does something new, i know i have come in here and posted when he got tooth 1, tooth 2 etc etc (btw just popped tooth 7) but it by no means impy's i am rubbing it in anyones face that i have a baby with a mouth full of teeth!
I appologise if i have missed commenting on particular posts from you but as you would know when you cannot come in every single day its impossible to catch up and comment on what every person has written, the last time i was in here was about 3 days ago i think, a lot has happened since then! im sure someone else has written something i prob should comment on but i just havent had time to read all of the posts
who made the comment about having an adult size wondersuit LOL?? now their's an idea!!
oh happy birthday becky!!
-
:D Happy Birthday Becky!!! :D
I hope you have a great day and get lots of pressies!!
Nic - Wow, Tyron has 7 teeth! K still hasn't popped a single tooth yet!
Ange - How cute that Lu doesn't know how to get down! She'll be walking in no time :o
Have a great day everyone!
-
:happybirthday: Happy Birthday Becky!!:happybirthday:
Nic - 7 teeth??!! Hooley dooley!! We're still sitting on 2 here.
Well we've had better nights the last two night since cutting back on the solids. BUT he is feeding more frequently overnight again, twice instead of once. I guess he's more hungry now but at least he is feeding and straight off to sleep again, no episodes of crying and no settling for an hour at at time! The lesser of two evils for now, but at least I'm getting some sleep again.
We're off shopping today to replace L's change table. I know a lot of people say they are useless but I seriously can't live without mine! I used it with DD till she was like 2! LOL. The one we have always had was borrowed from friends of ours who are now expecting their second bub so it has to go back to them. I'm actually thinking of getting something a bit more practical - a low boy or something simililar - and just getting a change mat to sit on top. I need some more storage space for his MCN and also for his clothes. He only has a tall boy, no wardrobe.
Anyhoo, that was a ramble and a half! Am sure you all found it very interesting :p anyway, gotta go, DH is hanging over my shoulder calling me a forum w*ore again! LOL...
-
i love my change table too willow. i still sometimes put nixon up there if he is being a worm and i just want to dress/change him and cannot keep him still on the floor etc! i also have a bad back so bending over all the time on the floor is not ideal.
i found though with nixon i had everything placed in my change table and it was so handy, but with Ty everything has to be stored in cubboards etc cause nixon gets to it all now!
yup 7 teeth, i suspect number 8 wont be far behind because everytime he has cut one the other hasnt been far behind. He's been a lot more upset about this tooth come through, for the last 5nights in a row he has needed rocking and holding to sleep, normally he is not a cuddly boy and when tired prefers just to be put down.
-
Morning all,
Not much happening here. Just a cruisy day at home. Got a sitter for Ethan last night so we could go out for dinner well we went to 4 resturants before we found one that had a table (dh forgot to book).
Up early this morning to feed little man (cut down his 9pm feed to 50mls so he woke up early hungry). Then went back to sleep and slept till 9.30!!!! WOOOHOOO!
Jogger prams - not sure why we were talking about them. (I think I missed something) We have a 3 wheeler but not sure if it is a jogger. We love it. Find it great for steering one handed and walking (since that is my mode of transport). We have a little layback stroller for the car which is fab too but wont go the distance like the jogger.
Nappies - given up on the bumg's for night. We were double stuffing them but he still leaked heaps. Even the snugglers nappies (which we have always found really good) would leak. Tried using 2 of them (one crawler one toddler) but that too didn't work. Given in now and use huggies. Not many accidents now. Still using bumg's and hautes during the day.
Have a great day everyone!!!!
-
7 teeth! holy fangbusters... lucky he's not on yer nip anymore, it would be hole-punched!
nappies - last night i tested a babylove 10-15kg on its own, and it was great - even for mr weebags... so, that was a surprise, might use them for a bit. i still like mamia, but it's such a strange thing trying to find the right fit for each bot!
-
-
Happy birthday becky.
Alz- Using Huggies isn't giving in, it's just doing what works! Changing sheets and wet cloths or a baby waking b/c it's wet is not cool! ;)
7 teeth???? holy guacamole Nic! we just cut the 4th and i was wondering if it was ever going to stop! Does it effect sleeping at your place? speaking of your place, have you moved in?
Been painting and decluttering the house today, anyone would think i am nesting...... am not!
Willow- are you up to more filling solids yet? ie, pasta, meat etc. might help with the overnight hunger....
-
ange - have you been fanged on the nip with those 4? i'm scared of his teeth coming in yanno...
-
Ange - nah, not yet. Bit scared to now! Have halved his dinner portion because of the vomiting and waking and crying etc etc...when are you supposed to start pasta & rice?? He's had chicken once and was OK on that. Should give him some more I guess.
Viv - having fed a baby till 16 months with a whole set of teeth...it seriously is not a big deal. They give you a nip every now and then, mainly with the first teeth coming in (kinda working out what they are and what fun things they can do with them). I never had a big issue with it, don't know any long termers who did either, it's usually just a passing phase.
-
Be scared, be very scared.....
oooooo man, yeah she did chomp once. I had some girlfrinds over, we were gasbaging, she was squarking a bit. To keep her quiet i whipped out a boob. She obviously wasn't hungry amd bit it! faaaaaaaaaaaarout it hurt, those little fangs are sharp. havn't done that again.
ETA- Willow, i presume rice is fine, seeing as rice cereal is a first food. i gave pasta a little while after i started, i think about 8 weeks after starting solids.
-
Hi Everyone!!
It has been a while since i have been on here! Hope you all are well.
Toby is doing really well. He is rolling everywhere and sitting up, no teeth yet, he is not particularly interested much is solids yet.
I will try and drop back in again soon - i do lurk a bit!! hehehehe
bec
-
lurker! :p good to hear all is well. ;)
-
LOL viv that's something i hadn't thought of! i often wonder if i was still pumping how much i'd be producing these days as u just cant keep the uptake the same as breastfeeding.
I do remember what it feels like to be bitten and ouchy wower esp when you'r not ready for it (not that u would be waiting for them to bite lol)
still 5 more weeks before we move in, going there tomorrow to clean up a bit havent been in over a week, had some jiprocking done last week and getting some built in waredrobe quotes this week.
how's this, DH tells me tonight that something happened in Phukett he hadn't told me. He got jumped.... well attempted jumping..... it was the 2nd night he left the pub they were all at to go to the atm the next block, he withdrew our equivalent to $300 and as he turned around 3 blokes stopped him and told him to give them his money... he told them to F off and they came at him.
He told me he actually picked one up threw him threw him, punched the next guy in the head he went to the ground, then the 3rd guy ran off so Dh then ran back to his hotel.......
like what if they had a knife.... what if what if, im still trying to imagine my husband in a fight and actually throwing someone, no wonder he didnt tell me over the phone i would have booked him a flight back home the next day.... suppose to be a corporate work trip and he's fighting off robbers.....what do u say to that??
-
Aw nickers I'd be so impressed. For nothing else but to know he could look after himself! Yeah they could have had knives - maybe they did - don't look at the what ifs, he's not in trouble. I'd feel relieved to know that if something wierd happened out of the blue, and me and bubz were there too, that he could defend us. You so lucky!!!!!
-
P.S - nightime nappies
try Mamia disposables from Aldi, DS peed through the huggies, but the Mamia ones a great
-
Evening!
We had a nice day today, we had our good friends over. They have a bub 6 weeks older than K so we took them for a walk and a play at the park. They are moving closer to us in a couple of weeks so I can't wait to catch up with them more! K is heaps bigger than their bub, he's such a boofer!
Hi Amy! What's Fin up to these days? Does he have any teeth? Is he moving around much? I love Aldi nappies at night too!
Nic - Wow, your DH sounds like an action movie star LOL! I'm glad he is OK, you must have been so freaked out when he told you.
Rallybbek - Stop lurking and start posting! Great to hear from you! K has no teeth yet either, I hope they never arrive LOL.
Ange - Ouch, I'm not looking forward to getting bitten. It hurts enough when I get gummed.
Have a great night all :)
-
Evening everyone,
Hope everyone enjoyed their public holiday. We had what we thought would be a quiet one but didn't turn out that way. A new spotlight opened near us today. They had a sale on their floor rugs so we went to check it out (we have icy cold floor boards). Well so did everyone else in western sydney. It was chaos.
Well I am a bit sad today. Didn't want to say anything last week but I thought that I was pg. Well did a test a couple of days ago and I'm not. Just got my late friend so now am sad. 16 months is a little closer than we originally planned but I would love to have another bub. Anyway it will happen when the time is right. Just wanted to share. Dh says it is good because we weren't ready anyway but I can't help but be disappointed.
Gave Ethan his first finger food dinner the other night. He loved it. Had really soft pear and toast. Well he can't pick up the pear because it is so slippery but loved munching to toast. Yay for my little man. Anyone else have any ideas for finger foods?
Hope you all have a great night.
-
We're back! Decided weekends away aren't as fun as they used to be before L. He was unsettled with his sleeps and was grumpy. As for Byron Bay, its not as much fun when you're in your 30s with a kid. Don't see us going back any time soon. Did call in to Byron Bay Cookie Company factory outlet and picked up some bikkies.
Becky - belated happy birthday. Hope you had a good day.
Nic - L's not walking (yet). His crawling has improved so much in the last few days. 7 teeth - wow! I bet he has a wonderful smile. L is just getting his 3rd through now. I've seen photos of your DH and I wouldn't want to get into a physical struggle with him. Just glad that it turned out alright.
Alz - sounds like E prefers finger foods. We gave L a steamed green bean last night and while he didn't eat it, he gave it a good gumming. I think pretty much any fruit or veg as long as its soft enough. Have you given him meat yet?
Anyway, loveys, got a pile of washing to do, need to iron my work clothes and generally get ready for the week. Hope you all had a good weekend.
-
Hi everyone,
Hope you all had a lovely long weekend!
I went to see Sue Dengate talk the on Friday night Food Intolerance Network It was a really interesting talk about the affect of food additives and chemicals on children and adults. I have been folowing the FAILSAFE diet the past month or so because I had heard the infant ezcema can be caused by amongst other things, MSG, preservatives and salicylates. I'm really hapy to report that Harry's eczema is 99% cleared up and I think that the diet and the acupunture have done wonders!
Viv - Jogger pram, I've got a P&T - never actually attempted to run with it but seen plenty of mums doing it at the park. Boobie - I will probably feed for more than 12 months (I fed Emily for 22 months) not sure how long but I will actively wean him at 2 years if he hasn't weaned before then.
Becky - Happy Birthday to you!
Amber - We are staying in Margate? Any recommendations of things to do and see? I know that we are visiting Bindy Zoo on one of the days.........
Willow - I'm in Pazzamatta - you?
-
Looks like i had an early m/c :(
Probably wont be posting for a bit, but still thinking of you all :)
