My MIL has Coeliac. There is an association that you can join, and really there are so many more gluten free options now. It is amazing how much better MIL is since the diagnosis. She has been diagnosed about 5 years. Coles has a great range of frozen pies etc. You cant eat most breakfast cereal, and the bread is AWFUL, but really there are heaps more options than 5 years ago - oh and cant have most alcohol excepts vodka and strongbow.
Rach - you only get the Part A suppliment if you get part A.. check out the website.. you can do an on-line asessment without login ing.. familyassist dot goc dot au
Howdy chickies, there is WAY too much for me to catch up on and I'm not even sorry - it's your stinking fault for writing so much. :p
Crikey Shell, we must have been so close! I was with mum and dad and Rans. And we sat near the front door. We should do a city meetup, that would be so fun!
Kell, don't you dare go anywhere. It's not allowed...it's um...against the law.
MIL took me to the Robert Gordon Pottery outlet today, and paid for it, naughty lady. So Rans is jealous cos I still have all my holiday pocket money left! Haha.
Oh yeah, Caddie, coeliac's disease is a relief! We try not to eat too much wheat anyway, you know, balance and all that. There's SO much gluten free stuff out there, once you know where to look. And not bad for your kids too, my cousin's daughter had a real bloated tummy, took her off wheat and her tummy went skinny after a couple of days! And Meg says you can have Vodka, so that's cool, you can still have chocolate mudslides! Hurrah!
Anyway, I'm on my awesome BIL's laptop and I was actually coming on here to look at knitting patterns! Got sidetracked! :p
Catch y'all whenever I get on next! xo
Nelle- A city meet-up is a good idea that way its pretty central and easy for whoever wants to come and we can go to max brenners. ;) Where abouts do your IL's live?
We are making progress here with formula. I've been trying for afternoon tea instead of breast giving formula but she'd hardly take much. So tonight I tried it after dinner instead and in a bottle instead sippy cup and she drank about 60mls. Don't know if it was the bottle or the time but I'm feeling more relaxed about returning to work knowing that she will drink something. Hopefully by 2 weeks time she'll be alot better. I'm not going to give up BF all together but cause I'll be working 1pm-9:30 (plus time to get there and home) it'll be a couple feeds I'm not around for.
just popped in to read caddie's news... glad that it is 'only' cealiacs disease Caddie. Did you know there is a gluten free bakery that does all bread and cake products. Think it might be exxy, but good to know for special occasions. enjoy christina, my MG is there, i was going to go but Dad's bday so all the family coming for dinner soon xxx
Caddie - at least you know what the problem is and you can make changes. I have seen alot of bakeries/shops dedicated to people with coeliacs and I am not sure but I think some of the major supermarket changes sell special bread etc. Good Luck!
hey Caddie my FIL has this and with a few adjustments my MIL manages to cok him everything he wants.. i think he misses having a meat pie though... My MIL has not been able to master a coeliac friendly pastry! all the best !
Nelle, Shell - Id be interested in a meetup if you give me advanced notice :)
Caddie - I am glad its a less serious diagnosis of Coeliacs disease. I have a friend who has it (see how common it is!) and she does just fine with her diet. Atleast youll be super healthy!
Caddie, I had a friend who had Coeliacs disease and when she had her 2nd child it went away? I have heard of this before with other allergies. Strange. Good luck with the research, glad it is nothing more sinister!
I thought i would pop into this thread and say hi ..."HI" :hello:. My little girl was born in Sept 06 and i have been eyeing off this thread for a while just to see what your little bubbas are up to and how you are all going. I live on the GC and catch up with Annie from time to time and her gorgeous DS. If you dont mind id love to chat from time to time.
HI Funmummy
Welcome, look forward to chatting with you!!
Laurin :)
Welcome Mel hope to get to know you soon.
Hi to everyone else, I am so tired so just a quickie. For those of you with more than 1 child, is this the first yr that you have been given a supplement of FTB part A and B?
The reason I ask this is I dont think I have been paid this before, yet we receive pymts of FTB A & B. Who knows, I will ring centrelink on Mon and hopefully get someone who knows what they are talking about.
Love
centrlink is very confussing, i get the $600 per child each year with craigs income around $50,000-$60,000, and last year i only worked for part of the year so i only earned about 6,000 and i received the $300 as well, so this year i will receive both with me not working at all.
you also get what is owed to you in FTB A&B, if you have OVER estimated your income,BUT if you have UNDER estimated it you receive a bill, or they will take it out of the payments above(if you a eligble for them)
caddie glad your ok
mel glad you hoped onboard
but it all depends on what you earn, look on the website for more info
Caddie.. im really glad your results arent as bad as cancer. Just becareful you dont waste away with that no carbs diet! We cant have that ;) Do you have to have any other form of treatment? I know you can get alot of gluten free stuff at those health shops. My friend was on a diet once and found it all. Bread etc.
Just want to say thank you for all your support guys.
Caddie, thank god that it was not cancer, Im sure you must be relieved to find out what is wrong so you may be on the road to feeling better.
Thank you to my friends here that have been so supportive to me in the last few days when I have really needed help getting through each day, I really appreciate you all taking the time to look after me after all I am going through right now.
ETA I spoke to my psyciatrist yesterday and he helped me so much too and shed a new light on things also.
Hi girls thankyou for all your wonderful words.Made me feel better that maybe my life is not going to be totally boring and restrictive. Though who mentioned KFC,no more for me.Went to christina ag concert was really great except venue **** for acoustics. Her voice is amazing. Was very hard at dinner because two concerts were at the burswood and no where for food.Lines were huge.We found a little bar called allure round the hotel area and we had tapas.I managed some sushi,a couple of lamb koftas and i did sneak in a crumbed prawn which was a nono but after having a hot chicken roll and porridge before diagnosis its not going to matter. Rice porridge this morning though.
Rikki where is this bakery??
Hello funmummy!!! welcome to the group.
Kell and belle hope you both are feeling a lillte better within yourselves today.
I was reading up in the tax book that you are eligible for family tax A if you fit into the combined income cut off and haven't received any payments from family assistance office. If they have underpaid you you will get what they owe.
Family Tax B is based on the lower persons income only.
I hope I've read it correctly. We never applied for family assistance thinking we wouldn't be eligible but now I've seen in book we do make under the cut off so we must just get it in the one lump sum.
Caddie- glad you enjoyed the concert. It prolly be hard for awhile remembering what you can and can't have and remembering to check ingredients but as everyone else has said so many more options around now. Oh and I have a recipe I'll have to hunt out for you a delicious gluten free chocolate cake, its so yummy.
Belle- Glad things went well with the psychiatrist, hopefully he/she can help put you on the road to feeling 100%.
Hi funnymummy, welcome to the group!
AnnaT- Def come down, if we ever decide a meet-up, our last one we were planning didn't exactly eventuate! We are so slack.
We are off to another auction today, if we don't get this we are gouing to start looking at town houses instaed seeing as all houses are going out of our range.
GLUTEN FREE CHOCOLATE CAKE.
- 110gm Cadbury cooking chocolate
- 110gm Almond meal
- 110gm unsalted butter
- 110gm caster sugar
- 6 eggs.
Melt chocolate in a double boiler over small amount of simmering water (if too hot it will cook the chocolate)
When melted add butter stir til butter is melted.
Take away from water and cool slightly
Seperate eggs
Add cater sugar to the yolks then stir this into the choc/ butter mix
Add the almond meal.
Beat egg whites til fluffy.
FOLD them into the mix, DO NOT beat (this is what helps cake to rise)
Put mixture into 8in cake tin with high sides
Bake 190c for 45-50mins
The first time I made this it turned out well second time didn't rise!
the bakery is opposite coles in garden city caddie....
If I didnt say before, sorry, but glad to hear that all is well with you Caddie and that even though it sucks at least it is something you can change your diet for.
Mmmmm I think centrelink might owe me some money, but will call them on Monday and hopefully someone will know what they are doing. For some reason I find it is a lottery when you call them, you either get someone who is really good at their job, nice helpful, knows what they are talking about or you get the total opposite, so who knows.
Eithan is still unwell, snot everywhere a horrible crackly cough, so clingy. Bella is staying at Leith's parents tonight though, so hopefully I can get stuck in and clear up the mess in her room. Bella likes to hoard things but forgets they are there until I try to throw them away, so hopefully without her here I can get it sorted out.
Shell-Goodluck with the Auction today, you know if you cant get a house you can always make the move to tassie. That's if you could put up with the cold winters. Not many houses go for auction down here, it is pretty much make an offer between x amount of $ and y amount of $ and they either accept your offer or not. When we were buying our land it was for sale for $97,000 we offered $93,000 and they came back and said that they would accept an offer of $94,00, so we did and we got it, now we are just waiting on the titles to be issued and money to change hands and then we can look at getting all our building approvals.
Belle-Glad to hear that the physchiatrist helped.
Well Bella had fun last night. Leith won an award for work. Ummm Eithan is still asleep, poor baby, he must be really sick. I BF him in myer and he went to sleep, then had a wander around met Leith for lunch then we went for coffee, put him in the car, drove home, took him out and put him in his cot and he is still asleep. Anyway better go and attempt some housework before he wakes.
Love
I was at garden city on wednesday!!! But i will be going next week with erin i am sure so thanx rikki!
Thanx shell for the cake recipe. Will give it a go soon.
Hey Myer's great for BF isn't it Helen! Man I had such a hard night (for us) with River last night, he's teething and I think that in combination with being in a new place makes him so hard to settle, usually when he wakes up he's easy to settle, but it took about an hour each time...and then there was no settling after about 4am. But there are plenty of people here to watch him, so I got a huge sleep-in. :)
Hey welcome Mel, nice to meet you.
Kell, I reckon I'm just going to bug you til you come back...hope you're still reading otherwise I'm wasting precious...pixels? :p
Man I'm so out of it, I think I'm really dehydrated cos River got fed so many times last night. Rans made up a jug of cordial for me, so I'm drinking that. I said 'nice jug' to him, and he said 'this one leaks too'. Cheeky.
lol nelle, you & Rans crack me up.
Nina has got her first molar come through today :dance:she's been a little unsettled at night, but we haven't been giving her any nurofen or bonjella at all. She'd normally settle with a little bit of milk. Hope the others come through just as good.
hi mel, welcome!
How'd you go today shell?
belle - great to hear you're on the way to recovery!! that's great news about the physchiatrist.
helen - I hope Eithan gets better soon.
Well we listed our unit for sale today, offers over $219k, not bad considering we bought it for only $160k 12 months ago. The market is really strong here ATM so it should sell very soon. Wish me luck!!
Hi ladies, Thanks for the warm welcomes!
Nessa, hope your able to put your feet up soon.
Jodi, I think that Elly is just about to cut her molars as well, she usually gets 2 teeth at a time and already has her 8 front teeth. She is showing the usual signs of teething but i thought it was a bit too early for her to get her molars. Now that Nina has cut one of hers it could be possible. She has been a bit early with all of her teeth, started around 5mths. Im glad to hear that her molar didnt give her too much trouble. Apparently the Canines are the worst, quite painful.
Wow - on these bubs with the molars, is Rylee the only bub with no teeth yet??? Oh well, she is just a little gummy bear I guess....
Nessa - bummer on your day!!!! Hope you can have a bath and a glass of vino tonight and try and chill a bit!!
Jodi - good luck on selling your unit. Jodi - did you ask about how Rylee went with the weaning - I can't remember if I answered you - but she was fine - think she has forgotton all about my boobs now....I feel a bit emotional about it though but will get there.
Shell - how did the auction go today?
Helen - poor Eithan - hope you got into Bella's room and sorted it out.
Nelle - bummer on Riv's sleeping.
Belle - hope things will be on the up and up for you now.
Caddie - Way to go on the Christina Ag concert, that would have been very cool.
Hey to all the other Mum's and bubs.
Not much here - Ry is now waking 12 am and 5 am - better than she has been - takes 100 mls of formula each time and goes back to sleep....
Have a nice Sunday girls.
Laurinxxxx
hi girls, thanks :)
I had a nice lunch with Julia and DH today and we went out to dinner tonight with friends which was great and just got home. Im really dizzy though for some reason...maybe it was the 1 beer I had but it was nice. Im going to find something I like to do and have some me time tomorrow.
Laurin - Rylee is is cute I love the pic in your ticker, its great you found new friend to hang with too. I also have met a new girlfriend when I was catching a bus this week shes about to have her 2nd child. She suffers from PND so she has been so lovely this week. Hope Ry sleeps for you tonight and not waking up at 12 and 5...
Jodi - mate so good to see you back here :) Please stay... Wow at Nina's molar, it must hurt though is she ok tonight?
Chrissy - how you doing? how is Caity-ann?
Funmummy - welcome! what day was Elly born? I have friends who live in gold coast too.
Nessa - sorry to hear about your bad day.. is your mobile insured? I hope you are getting some well deserved rest now..
Nelle - hiya good to see you how is Riv tonight?
Helen - do you have any pics from last night? thats great she had a good time. How is Eithan today?
Caddie - how you doing today? did you find any good stores with good food?
Shell - oh great recipe thanks so much im going to make it. yummm.. any luck at the auction? how is Ash?
Time to rest now so back tomorrow for more personals.
Bel
oh i should change that on my signature, she was born 23/09/06.
Caddie - Happy to hear that it is "only" caeliacs. Was really worried for you that it might've been something more sinister. At least there are lots of caeliac friendly foods available in shops to choose from.
Wow, I've missed way too many posts so buckleys of catchin up with personals. Though would love to say a big welcome to funmummy. Oh, and a big thank you to Meg for sharing with us your story - seems like I know you a lot better now!
Not much to report around here, Xander is getting a new bottom tooth and it is causing him a lot of grief (at least now I have an explanation re the sleep troubles as of late). Scott is on holidays so am unlikely to be on here as much as usual; I probably should spend some quality family time with my family
Ok, off to go catch up on reading all these posts.
No house for us again, this time we didn't get our hopes up so we weren't too dissapointed, just pi$$ed off! When we first started out things were going bout 20% over advertised price now its more like up near 30% which is just ridiculous. We are just gonna start looking at town houses, I would've liked a back yard but seems land is too expensive.
:hello: Sharleen! Are you back to stay? Or just popping in? How are all the kids?
Anna**- don't you love having hubby home on holidays, mine goes back mon so I'm gonna miss sleep-ins and help around the house.
Belle- I think 1 beer would go to my head too and make me dizzy! Glad you had a nice day though. Its great to get the chance to go out for dinner cause these days it becomes a rare thing.
Laurin- Ash did those wake up time for quite a while then eventually she has cut down to once a night, she still has her bad nights though, we wnet thru a week of her waking at 11:30 everynight and taking ages to settle.
Nessa- Big . Hope today you are feeling alot better. that sucks bout the phone and being "water" damage you won't be covered. Maybe try dry it out? I dropped mine in the bath awhile back and used a hair dryer on it.
Jodi- if the market up there is as strong as down here you should make lots extra cash, even in the 5 months we've been looking for a place the prices have just sky rocketed.
HelenP- How is Eithan today? Any better? Don't think I could move to tassie for the fact I'd miss my family too much but I've always wanted to holiday down there, just gotta talk Df into it.
Not much on for me today, looks like a boring day, done dishes, will do some washing, change sheets. Df will lay around all day as he is hung-over as usual for a sunday. Hope you're all enjoying your weekends.
Hi Sharleen, how's things? You coming back to us too?
shell - we had our house valued at the beginning of the year for low $400's, now it's worth mid to high $400k. It's just crazy this market. I hope you find something soon though. Even if it is a townhouse, at least it gets your foot in the real estate market, then from there you can eventually get what you want.
nessa - I pushed Heath in the pool once, and didn't realise his phone was in his pocket (whoops!!). He too had insurance & got a new phone out of it. A better phone too as they no longer made his original phone.
anna** - I hope Xanders tooth comes through soon and he starts sleeping well again.
Shell... Good idea to get a townhouse or something smaller. Just think of it as a temporary step in getting the house you want. You can do it up and sell for a nice profit... then buy your house!
Happy 11 Months to Alexander! Only a few short weeks and he'll be 1!

Happy month birthdays to Xander and Julia!
Jodi, YAY congrats on selling the house! That was very quick. We're will you live/move too?
Hi Sharleen!
Went and did our christmas layby for J this arvo at KMart. $195 and a bazillion presents later it is D-O-N-E so I dont have to worry about it at the last min, 39wks preg and in the middle of the christmas rush. He's getting very spoilt, we got him -
- Fisher Price Animal train + 2 extra carriages
- FP Learning Keyboard + CDROM (so he doesnt wreck poor Ry's comp)
- Thomas the Tank Engine PushnGo train
- FP Musical drum that sings in 2 different languages
- FP Build-a-blocks Alligator (he has a Build-a-block set from my Aunty as a baptism gift so Im building it up for his birthday and chrissy)
I think thats it. We also bought him a Cars kids fold out lounge because I dont always put him in bed for naps and its a pain when I have to hop up and put him in his cot after he's fallen asleep on the floor/my lap. My poor belly doesnt allow for quick movements anymore :cryinglaugh:
Now we just have to find a nice swingset/jungle gym for his birthday (Ive also layby'd some more Build-a-Blocks and a Thomas TE DVD).
Im knackered.
well done on the shopping trip anna!! I haven't even thought about Xmas yet.
We will be staying put, it's our unit that we sold.
