Babies Born September 2007 #15

Queenie, I only see egg-blue boxes in my dreams *sigh*. The reference is actually true LOL. It is very green around here, even if it is only heliotrope weed LOL. So there is water water everywhere ATM. If you feel like you *need* that extra 45 minutes then do it - I do and not for one second do I feel guilty. Sometimes I do get up though and get a head start on the day before everyone wakes (I am loving these holiday sleep ins the kids are having ATM). I'm always a night showering person though since I had kids LOL. can you put her down at her feed before the one where she goes down at 10ish? (clear as mud? ;) ) and then use the 10pm feed as a dream feed and see how she goes then? If she isn't sleepy then don't worry about it. It's probably not easy ATM with the hot weather and yes, she would be having her 3mth growth spurt to just to add to the fun.

decided that relactation is not going to be the way to go for us.. done alot of soul searching and well Asha is happy and healthy and i dnt want to go through the stress of everything it takes to relactate when i could stress her and myself out.. if down the track i have another baby i will revisit path of breastfeeding and hopefully have more success if it is what i want at the time..
with all the anxiety i have atm anyway it probably would have slowed milk production as it is.. this upcoming plane trip has me in a spin.. before nz id never been on a plane and i was nervous and had a little tummy upset but nothing major.. this time i feel utterly beside myself with fear of getting on the plane to the point where i sometimes find myself thinking of excuses to tell my friend so we dont go... the flights are booked and although insured i even sometimes think even if we dont get the money back i dont care.. thats how bad it really is... the dr has perscribed me some valium for the day but i worry if i start taking it now it can become addictive so trying to wait till the flight i dnt know whats wrong with me its terrible!!!
Asha tried some apple today and she liked it :) think i need to boil it before pureing it next time though so the texture is nicer she didnt seem to mind though lol..
sherie - ditto i shower once asha has gone to bed for the night lol so much easier
md - as has been said i think the girls will have a nice relationship when they are older with E being able to go to H and talk about boys etc etc etc :)
queenie - i put the dummy in for extra sleep because if i do it she goes back to sleep and she wouldnt sleep if she wasnt tired so i figure i am not only doing myself a favour but i am doing her one too so she wont be grumpy and tired later :)
lp - well done on adult time i cant even begin to imagine what its like for you with how much youve taken on ur a superwoman and deffinately deserve all the adult time you can get!!!

Noni I heard it is bedt to boil the fruit before trying to puree it. Glad Asha is enjoying her food. I think it was great of you to even consider relactating, with the next baby you will have a better idea of how it works and will be able to get the support you need.

Queenie wow are'nt you spoilt, sounds like you have a wonderful DH. Dont feel bad trying to get soem extra sleep, if thats what you need then do it. I bring Logan into bed with me of a morning so I can try and get soem extra sleep. We all do what we need to. RE bub number two, DH and I are talking about trying once Logan has turned one.

MD what a tough decision you have in front of you, I am sure you will come to the right conclusion. My two sisters are only 18 months apart with 4 and 5 years between myself and them, they were always closer growing up and shared the same friends but we are now best friends and very close.

LP glad you had a good night. You are doing such an amazing job, my hat goes off to you... I dont think I could take on what you have.

Arte we have been using the crawler size nappies for a while now.

Hayley we were going to get a Bumbo while they are on special, but not sure how much I will use it. I prop him up on pillows when he is on the floor and we are going to buy a high chair that straps to normal dining chair soon so he can sit with us while we eat.

Had a melt down last night, Logan didnt sleep yesterday and was so over it by 5pm. I had to put him in his cot and let him cry a little while I composed myself. Then had a massive blow put with DH and again had to compose myself before making up with him. Have had a great day today though, we blew up Logans pool and sat in there and let him tire himself out. It was so nice to see the sunshine, they have predicted rain agian this week, I am begining to feel so trapped at home. Better go and have a shower and an early night. Hope everyone had a great weekend.

Oz - Hope that Logan slept well last night for you. If you are going mental trapped in the house all the time just let me know and we could meet up if you want. I don't mind driving down to the GC, the only day I am busy is Wednesdays.

S was sooo sleepy, She went to bed at like 3pm yesterday (after sleeping most the day anyway) then she woke up at 7am this morning & has just gone back to sleep!

Tying up the school shopping today, getting furkid's stitches out & going to go to the beach if by the time i've finished everything it's not too hot for the kiddies.

Argh! You all made me want a bumbo but i've decided to stop buying things for Scarlet that will only last her a short time - She's just growing way too fast & has way too much stuff. I'm sure she wont mind though.

Noni ~ Good on you anyway for trying the relactation, I know how bad it can feel sometimes - not BF'ing, I think about it heaps but one of the plus sides of not getting my milk in is DF feels closer to Scarlet because he can feed her too :) How on earth did you puree un-cooked apples? lol

Arte ~ We've been in crawlers for a while now too & Scarlet is almost in a size 0, I can't believe how fast they grow!

Katie ~ :hugs: Sorry about your melt down, It's hard to feel trapped inside all the time. Did Logan like his pool? It's a bit bright for Scarlet, even in the shade - I think we need some little sunnies for her.

LP Logan has baby bands sunnies, he doesnt seem to mind them and looks adorable in them. He loved the pool, although it was a little cold at first.

Sherie - Christmas was great thanx. Did you have it at your house or did you visit family?? We had it at our house this year EEK! We had everything set up outside but because it was so hot everyone just stayed in the lounge room. It was soooo packed....but cosy LOL! Did you see the photo on facebook? We are like tin sardines :)

DH and I arethinking about booking a holiday to Phuket next week for some time together. Would we be the worst parents in the world if we left ROry with my mum for 5 days??? We have been so undecided. I know Rory will be fine because he never cries, sleeps through the night (even in strange places) and he adores his nanny and poppy. But i dont know if its the right thing to do when he is 11 months? Guys whats your honest op? DH and I really need some couple time.

Well Rory is asleep. I better mop the floors and jump into the shower. Its 11:34am and I havent even got out of my PH's HAHA

Renee I got the sunnies at a normal sunglasses shop, they are made by the cancer council. I dont think it would be slack of you at all to leave Rory. Having some time just the two fo you sounds nice and in my opinion having a break can ponly make you a better parent (less stressed etc). So I say go for it.

Noni my reception was about $80 per head and included everything. Ring around or even jump on some websites and have a look whats out there some are really expensive just check what they include like a DJ, table setting, chair covers etc.

Noni ~ We have our reception sorted at $110 per head but we're not having many people so we're going quality over quantity, I recently went to a reception that only cost $50 a head & it was really nice!

Hey renee! Been wondering where you got to!.. It was us having the tiff's, not spending enough time together is the problem, phuket sounds like a fab idea.

Noni, my reception (and wedding) was at a vineyard. It was $37 per head, and had a $700 bar tab so that worked out to be $15 each. So $53 per person for entree, main, dessert and beer/wine. That was NZ though, so not sure if it is comparable to here.

Oz, W has vaccinations tomorrow and swimming Wednesday, do you want to meet up on Thursday or Friday? Any other Brisbane buddies want to come? LP how far up the sunshine coast are you? Leemar? JaZmum?
Renee, I don't think it is bad of you to want some couple time. Especially if Rory is going to be 11 months old. If he is comfortable and sleeps well with his grandparents then go for it.

I am so excited, my DH had a phone interview this morning and they called him back an hour later to say he has the job. They are flying him to NZ next week for a plant tour and to talk contracts etc. I was getting stressed about not having an income or a town to go to. It is in Ohakune which is a little resort town at the bottom of Mt Ruapehu, so it gets busy with skiers during the winter and has fishermen through the summer. It also has a giant carrot. I have always wanted to live in a town with a novelty giant statue lol

That's great that your DH got the job art, Ohakune sounds like a really exotic place,
lol, I have lived near the big pineapple, Big banana, Big Oyster & Big prawn - No big vegetables so far - I'd love to come, I'll have to see if i'll have my car back by then though - MIL's was stolen from her work :( so i just left mine with her.

LP, If it keeps raining you won't need a car to get down here, do you have an inflatable raft?

Art - yay for DH getting a job, that is great news.

Noni - I think our reception was $90 a head, that was for 3 courses and drinks.

Renee - we have the baby sunnies too (Baby Banz). I got them over the internet, I also saw them in a baby shop in Canberra. Have a great time in Phuket - if you need the break go for it!

We've been having a few little tiffs too - mainly around the going to bed time of day when DD has decided she doesn't want to and we're both getting tired. I've been keeping records since boxing day of what she does all day (feed, sleep & awake time) and for the 19 nights we've had, there have only been 8 that she has gone to sleep when we have put her down (ad not had to go back in a few times)and not woken up 45 minutes later. Does that sound like a bad record? We have our night time routine, but it doesn't seem to work on her. I jinxed myself last night, said to DH, at least when it is hard to get her down the first time she doesn't wake 45 minutes later - so last night she did both!! DH just held her hand for 5 minutes and she dropped off again so that at least was good.

She did the biggest sleep in more than 5 weeks last night - 8.25 hours. I woke at the 6 hour mark, which was already a long sleep for her and couldn't get back to sleep with the size of my boobies!

And this morning she did a monstrous poo - all over her, sleeping bag, mattress protector. Woke up to see her and DH disappearing into the shower to clean her up.
Oh dear, she's awake and doesn't sound happy - better go.

Cally, I'm dying to ask....do you keep your records in a spreadsheet...??? I think what ever happens happens and it's not necc bad or good. We've had some easy nights and some real rotters but I get more upset about it when I start adding it all up in my head. Best to just go with it on the day IMO.

Noni, our reception was really cheap because we enquired about function prices but did not use the word "wedding" at all LOL. Just a normal restaurant, they did a buffet style meal with entree and dessert. That was a million years ago though so I'm sure it would cost more these days!

Hello all!

Lucky girls being able to have a meet up - anyone fancy a trip to my place? LOL.

Have finally decided I have had enough of Alister spewing everywhere and on everything and I got some AR formula. He doesn't have pain with it, but I am just so over the happy chucking. The others were all like it, but not this bad. I wash just as many terry flats a week as I would if he was wearing them. Fingers crossed it works. I asked my GP about it today too when I was there (medical for life insurance) and he said if that didn't work then get some infant gaviscon.

We must be the biggest cheapskates out with our wedding budget LOL. Ours cost $20 p/head for a 3 course meal (soup or vol-au-vont entree, roast main and dessert). Mind you out here costs are so much less than in the city. The IL's paid for the booze, so we have no idea how much that cost. So we didn't spend that much at all really, we only had 80 people there.

Renee, I think 5 days away would be a fab idea. And no, you wont do Rory any damage by leaving him with his Nanny and Poppy - if anything he wont want to go home with you afterwards LOL. I haven't been on FB lately, it keeps doing funky things on me, probably because I have dial up I think.

Noni, BF for the 2nd time round is so much different to the first - you have so much more confidence by then and I am sure it will work for you next time.

I started stockpiling solids today too LOL. Woolies had Rafferty's garden organic purees at 2 for $3, so I grabbed 8, plus some of their rice cereals too. So much cheaper than heinz too.

OOooo speaking of weddings, I just went to order our wedding photo's (2 years later LOL) and out photographer has put our photo's up on his website (could of bloody picked some better ones though)!!!!!! And the bloke who made our wedding cake I designed has put it up on his website! Shouldnt I be getting paid haha.

Asha had some banana with organic rice cereal this afternoon (made it warm coz its cold today kinda like poridge) and she absolutely loved it!! its the most shes eaten yet (bout 2 1/2 dessert spoons worth all up) she was so excited!! gonna try something like sweet potato tmw so its not all fruit..

Renee, Rory wont forget you (and it's not a silly question at all), he will be happy to see you for sure, but he will still know that you're his mum and dad. Have you left him over night before? Maybe when it gets closer you could do some trial runs for a weekend (2 nights) and see how he goes? Might be good for nanny and poppy too to have some practice.

I will start him at Easter time on solids, he will be six mths old then (my god!). I don't want to risk any allergies because of his eczema, so I may even hold off longer than that if I can. I'm just stockpiling while I see it on special LOL.

We had one of our wedding pics in the yellow pages for our photographers ad, but he chose a silohette (sp?) so you can't tell it's us, but we know it is LOL. We are yet to see any money for that too ;)

Noni, a word of warning on the sweet potato front - it comes out EXACTLY as it went in LOL, it is one of the grosser things you will ever see in a nappy ;) So be prepared for orange.

MD - I am an engineer don't forget!! I set a spreadsheet up, but I've just been printing it out and marking it in highlighter for awake and asleep times and then red pen for feeds. I just wanted to see if there was any pattern to her days, I was struggling to remember 2 days beforehand what she had done! And a few times I'd forgotten when she'd last fed.

Renee - That is a good idea of Sherie's to have a little trial run beforehand. I like the wedding photos!

Sherie - good luck with the AR formula.

Still had some issues tonight getting her to sleep, but she got there in the end. During the day she goes down easily without any help from us at all, but I might try sitting in with her in the evenings and holding her hand to see if that works. We see the nurse tomorrow for her weigh in so will see what she thinks.

He joined as one of his friends asked him too as he went overseas for a while to live and they can keep in touch with everyone easier or something like that. Any way she tracked him down. We have started a new trick when bub will not sleep, we put her in the cot then sit on the floor next to it & hum or softly sing songs till she stop wriggling, Then we crawl out of the nursery! LOL it's just a back up for us as she usually goes down fine - Goodluck tomorrow, I hope the nurse has some advice for you.


Leemar - I wanted to add, when i signed up to myspace i looked up every name i could ever remember, Just to see what people were up to now... Maybe the ex just did the same thing? Gee! I even looked up the first boy i kissed in grade 1! Dissapointing that it didn't work out, He's a looker now ;) lol.

Hey Katie, with missing the tired signs, I've noticed Scarlet's have changed now - She used to rub her eyes & pull at her ears but now she get really squirmy, starts pulling at her clothes & tries to cover her face with everything - I was missing it for a while too & she was getting over-tired & grumpy but i guess the signs will just keep changing with age... SO SICK OF THE RAIN!!! Our lawn is so long! The whole yard is like a jungle, It hasn't stopped raining enough for anything to dry out.

Scarlet is still asleep & the girls are already off playing with the kids down the road... It's weird, one minute i'm super-busy & run off my feet & the next i'm sitting here wishing i could go poke S to wake her up because i'm bored. lol.

Leanne - she probably regrets letting a good thing go. My DH had an 'ex' who made a move on him (!) one time when he went back home - we were just married, what was she thinking? He knows where is bread is buttered, and no the years were not kind there either.

LP - other foods: predictably corn and peas, the surprise is things like beetroot and licorice (when a bfing mum eats them) can change the colour too!! Oh, and Shrek frootloops (remember them, Noni)?

Argh! So here is my MIL rant...

She calls me yesterday afternoon & says 'I've booked a flight to Tassie for saturday, Are you right to look after BIL for a few weeks'.. So usually i'd say, yep okay no worries, but this is the THIRD time in as many months she's gone ahead & bought tickets to somewhere, THEN asked if we can take him.

Is it just me or do you find a babysitter BEFORE you decide to go interstate for a few weeks? OR take your child with you? OR f'ing stay home & make sure they go to school! (she doesn't want him to go to school while she's away so that's even harder - The girls would have to go & he wouldn't)

Anyway, i just said no, I'm too busy with everything as it is & i just can't handle another one, I'll go even more nuts!

(We are having BIL for THREE whole months soon as it is & he does nothing for himself, He wont even pour himself a glass of water plus he's really annoying, I love him to bits but man he drives me insane!!!)

She says 'Okay, no problem.. I understand'... not even 5 minutes later i get a phone call from DF.. 'can we look after BIL for a few weeks?.. Mum just called & asked me'... I was furious! I said no so she called DF & asked, When i told him that i'd just spoken to her & said no he was furious too - So he called her back & had a go at her for being so childish (it was like when a child asks one parent if they can do something, they say no, so the child goes & asks the other), Last night consisted of a string of teary phone calls from her 'I've already paid for the ticket, There's no one else... blah blah blah' So i say, Okay we'll buy him a ticket & he can go with you - Nope, not good enough, she wants to go out with her friends while she's there... I probably sound really mean but i'm sick of being walked all over, Just the fact that she bought the tickets then asked later screams 'HAYLEY IS A DOORMAT!' I'm over it.. Rant Over.

Thats crazy about your MIL!!!!!!! It sounds like she is being very irresponsible if you dont mind me saying. Im really glad you stood up to her. Should also add MIL is only 39 & a single mum so we do all we can to help her out but she treats DF like he's BIL's father. She had DF when she was only young & his father left before he was born, 10 years later she had BIL & his father did the same thing so it's been hard on her but there's only so much we can do, Now that we have our own little family it's getting difficult to be her back up ALL the time... We still have him heaps but it's being treated like we're always the definate answer that gets to me, We have lives too!

LP - Well done on standing up to MIL, I agree that is so childish going behind your back to ask DH. Luckily he checked with you before agreeing. Very tough expecting you to take on another one in the household when you are still getting used to having the girls.

Well I've had no contact with an ex's and DH isn't on facebook etc so no chance of any of them tracking him down!

Just had the clinic visit. She is 6.5kg and 63cm. So a shorty compared to the other bubs here. We have to do more tummy time though. I thought we were doing heaps and she had good neck control, but apparently she should be able to do 1/2 hour at a time! Crikey!

MD - enjoy the movies, what are you seeing? I might have to take advantage of a mums and bubs session next time we are in Canberra.

Cally half an hour? Logan still hates tummy time and i am lucky to get 10min out of him. I should probably be doing it more. I did it this morning and he is trying to bring his knnes up under him, like trying to crawl. I think Logan is only about 63cm but is 7kg.

LP good for you for standing your ground. I cant beleive she would book a holiday and just assume you would take car of BIL, very thoughtless.

Scarlet has her weigh in & needles on Thursday, I think she weighs about... 15kgs! lol... sure feels like it when i'm carrying her now.

Does it count if the tummy time is laying on daddy's belly? He does that with her for about an hour when he gets home & she has about an hour on her tummy on the floor in little spats through-out the day.

MD ~ What did you see at the movies? Is it a mum's & bub's session or are you just taking her to a normal one... I dont think they have mums & bubs ones here but we could go to an early morning session & hope for the best i guess.
