MD - aren't hard drive recorders the best invention ever!! I love ours. Northern Exposure was great, Dad and I used to stay up to watch it each week.
5:50 wake up this morning - my eyes still won't focus on anything. I've put her back down and she's chatting to herself, will have another lie down when she drops off.
Love my way was awesome, I hired Series 1 from the video store, need to go back and get Series 2 at some stage.
-
MD, Dunedin is a lovely place, I lived there for a few years and it is our second choice of places to live because it is close to DH's parents (first choice being closer to my family LOL) I would definitely recommend Firefly, space cowboys are cool. Anyone that likes Joss Whedon will like it, it was his favourite brainchild but was canned after only one season. There is a movie after the series though, Serenity.
Cally, the 5.30 wake ups are horrible. They are DH's job LOL. Usually W wakes at 8am, I feel ripped off if we have to get up before that.
Not looking forward to nits. Will hardly has any hair atm so I don't need to worry yet.
Good to hear everyone else blobs in front of the TV, I don't feel so bad about it now.
MD the parents as teachers thing sounds really good. I taught Will to bang two things together a couple of months ago and now he does it all the time. Good to hear I am doing something right - I was starting to think I had made him destructive LMAO.
I went to visit the neighbour today. It is so cute watching the two little bubs play. W walks along and Zanri (pronounced Zarn-dar-ri) follows behind and bumbs into him when he stops and they both topple LOL
BIL is going home today, just the right time I think. He is cool, but glues himself to the computer all day and I can't get on! Hope he did alright at his uni contact course - he had a car accident a few years ago which resulted in a serious head injury and still has problems with comprehension and short term memory. He doesn't want to tell the uni though so he isn't getting any allowances like extra exam time etc.
-
Where is everyone? I am bored. DH had to go the long way to drop off BIL because the roads are closed due to snow.
-
I'm here but I'm bored too. DH has taken K out for a couple of hours so I can have some me time. So far I've cleaned the floors and am just popping on here while they dry before making some muffins (assuming I have all the ingredients)
Wow, 8am wake ups, we haven't had that for months and months!! I considered 6:45 a sleep in this week.
-
Hi ladies Im here but I'm not bored at all, busy busy busy.
Have picked the Baptism cake and will order tomorrow, decided to go all out for a decorated cake (v indulgent if you ask me!) and we've picked a Michel's cake with all white icing, pink daisies, and a white rattle with a little pink bow on it. We'll get "Elisabeth Hope" written on it - no room for anything else LOL. Prolly get marble mud cake. Mmmmmm. Also contemplating whether we *really* need a christening gown or whether to just go with little white suit (with pink ribbon rosebuds) at the top. I have literally about 3 hours left to make up my mind before I need to order LOL!
Arte I didn't realise Serenity had anything to do with a tv series! Will most def look that one up. One of my other faves that died an early death was Farscape. V interesting themes.
One of my other TV series faves used to be on every Wednesday night, I'd get home from Tafe, we'd have pasta and a glass of wine, and I'd watch....Providence! Did anyone see this? Thingy with the very curly hair was sooo much better as a doctor than a silly old crime investigator!
Cally far out that's an early get up! On DH's to do list before he leaves is to put a holland blind up behind the curtains in E's room - it's only going to get lighter earlier and earlier from now on!
Has anyone started culling out the little baby toys, or do your bubs still play with them? I'm thinking I might leave them in the toy box for another month or two then start clearing them out (except for a few faves like Patty Panda and Bruce the Moose). E doesn't play with many of her toys at this stage, far too busy exploring the house!
Another Question - what do you do time-saving wise when it comes to preparing bub's food? I tend to have a cook up once a week but it takes for ever and it'll be a disaster when DH is away - I really rely on him to entertain E while I'm busy in the kitchen with a million pots all cooking away.
-
Oohhh MD!! i LOVED northern exposure too!!! and I must get firefly. all my BTVS fan friends rave on about it, but i was unsure as i didnt really like serenity...probably cause i didnt see the series though...hhmm food for thought. deadwood is really great (IMO). it is pretty brutal though, and the language can be pretty confronting. there is a website for the show, so check it out to get a feel. that said everyone we have recommended it to has loved it!
the parents as teachers idea is awesome! especially at this age, where they are not quite toddlers but are very much interested in the world around them. wish we had something like that here. that said i am going to buy a book called 'gymbaroo' that i saw the other day. it has fantastic ideas to do at home with bubs. (well looked fairly straightfoward anyhow!).
for the metal bowls i recommend going to an indian spice store (there are a few in the woden/philip area. they have small 'dhal' bowls made of stainless steel. we have a whole bunch of them and Leila just loves it as they make lots of noise when banged together and are just right for her size. (oh and they are dirt cheap, which is always a winner in my house!).
Arte: you are a girl after my own heart LOL!! i wish you lived down the road so we could do a DVD swap!!
oh and i just saw Big Love for the first time last night! i know, i know, waaay behind in the times, but it is just hilarious! i am a convert (well not to polygimy but YKIM!! LOL!).
oohh snow! what does little W think of the snow?! here i am planning a trip to sovereign hills snow spectacular (basically huge snow machines brought in) just so leila can get an idea of what snow is like LOL!
we had friends in Fiji that were originally from Dunedin! what a small world! they were pretty shocked at the change in weather from Dunedin to Suva tho!!
Cally: i hear you sista! leila is up with the birds...or before them. we also consider anything after 5.30 a sleep in. that said she is in bed mighty early at 6.30-7.00. we have tried to put her down later but it makes no difference to her wake up time
AFM: well we had a really good weekend ended however with our dog stella trying to take a bite out of a kid at the park. this is the first time she has even ever shown aggression let alone a bite! we are reeling in shock and have no idea what to do. luckily the little boy wasnt hurt (just really scared and rightly so!). i know that sometime last week i came across two boys harrassing stella at the gate at home and one of them stomped on her leg as she was sleeping thinking it was funny, so now i am paranoid that she will have an aversion to school age boys! will be ringing a dog behaviouralist tomorrow. need to own an oil rich country no doubt to pay for it! feeling really bummed, as i never would have imagined that i would have an 'aggressive' dog.
anyway best be off leila is cracking it and DH is thinking that sweeping the floor in the kitchen is 'entertaining' her!
-
Oh MD i must have posted just after you!
yeah i do the cook ups and try to do them when L is in bed. this is when i do all the bases like sweet potato, pumpkin, potatoes etc etc. however i do the meat on the day that she will be eating it.
with the toys yeah, i have been doing culls. although with so many bubs in our group of varying ages we have decided to start our own 'toy library'. basically we chuck our toys in a big plastic bin and anyone can go in and borrow the toys (there's nothing formal or anything going on). it seems to be working really well as the bubs get to play with new toys and it declutters the house! (we also do this for our trashy mags! LOL!).
oohh that's right the Baptism is coming up! how exciting! have to say that we got a gown for leila and it was really expensive! in hindsight, i think i would have bought something white that could be used again. although, my original idea was to have something special that could be a family heirloom one day...romantic thoughts i know, no doubt it'll end up moth eaten and festering at the bottom of some stinky teenagers cupboard!
i didnt realise your DH was going away (what rock have i been living under?!). for how long?? and where?
My DH is starting his commuting this week, so will be on my ownsome this mon and tues...:(
-
Clare, thanks for the steel bowl tip, I think I know where the spice stores are in Phillip. I have one of the Gymbaroo books, it only goes up to 1 year old then there is a toddler one as well. Hoping to get E into Kindergym as soon as we move back to Adelaide, it's like gymbaroo but a third of the price.
LOL I'm glad you are enjoying Big Love! Oh soooo make sure you track down series 1! Bit scary about your dog having a go at the park! I imagine you're feeling a bit more mortified than I did when BFC killed our friend's favorite chicken! Good idea to get a specialist in, need to get onto it quickly.
Better go, E is tired and cranky after refusing to sleep this afternoon. Can't wait for those QE2 ladies to work their magic!
ETA Clare just saw your second post. DH is going away oseas for three months. *SIGH* I told him I've got one more trip in me and that's IT! I start fretting well before he goes and it just all slides downhill from there.
Re the baptism gown, I've been looking at some which are just cotton with some simple lace, nothing too frothy! I nearly had a fit when I went into the Italian baptism/communion/bonboniera place - everything was soooo expensive. With DD1, her godmother and her mother and MIL all got together and sewed a little dress out of ivory fabric left over from her wedding dress, it has her initial in ribbon embroidered roses on the front. But it's too small for E now and also it would be nice to have something for E to pass along when she's all grown up.

MD - I am trying to cook more family meals that DD can eat to get out of cooking her stuff specially for her. Doesn't always work though, I made something for dinner last night that she was going to eat, then I added the almond meal and I'm not ready to try her on nuts yet so she ended up with one of the jars that was in the pantry!
Clare - we have bedtime about 7 too, but I'm not sure that's related to her waking early the last week. Tooth number 4 popped through this morning. Tempted to see what happens tonight and if she wakes early again take her to the doctor. She seems fine in all ways except keeps playing with one ear and moves her head away when I speak on that side of her head so I just have a nagging feeling there might be a slight infection there.
Gotta go
-
morning everyone, quiet in here this morning although it feels like much laterthan it is because Asha likes to get up early grrrr sooo not a morning person!!
ashas fungal infection is still not going away only just occured to me that its probably because the cloth nappies are carrying it duhh i'm so dumb!! i have her in a sposie atm but i am worried because i took her out of them in the first place because of rashes ughh i'm currently assuming thats better than the germs from the cloth ones but i am waiting on a call from the dr.. washing machine comes today thank god!! the other one wasnt washing off poo or spew or food etc because it was soo old and i was reduced to hand washing! our brand new electrolux front loader is coming today woot between 12:30 and 3 which pretty much cancells out the whole day and i now cant take asha to the dr grr atleast i will have a washing machine!
this house still smells weird!! they had pets or something in the house basically they lived in sqaulor from what we know and im having a hard time getting rid of this weird smell lol its not that bad and it is getting better every day but its just annoying lol!! winge winge wing lol
md - sorry DH is going away again.. that dress for Hs baptism sounds lovely:) hope you find something you like for Es, some of those big frothy ones look like dress up clothes imo..
clare - oh what a good idea with the toy library thing i just pack away what asha dosnt play with.. she still plays with her toys that she had when she was younger just not as much as the other ones and i am a bit of a hoarder lol dont like to throw things away...
cally - we are having early mornings here too! ohhh muffins makes me wanna walk down the street and get some ingredients except i dnt know how to get anywhere from here yet so it might not be advisable hahahaha.. i hear you on the early wake ups ashas an early bird too!!
hello everyone else g2g asha stinks lol put her in a sposie at the right time didnt i lmao!!

Hi Girls,
Well my neices party was a blast. Happy Belated Birthday to Paige...
KinderGym- My boys go and love it although it doesnt seem very organised. Olivia sort of joins in too.
Noni- Congrats on your new washing machine.
Cally- we too have early mornings
MD- Oh honey bummer on DH going away. Hope this is his last one... I do a cook up once a week. When is the baptism?
Hello to everyone I have to scoot as Jordy just woke up and is running a muck in the office. catch up later...
-
Hi Girls!
Noni: ah the wonderful smells of those that walked before us!! LOL!! i remember when we moved in here that the place just reeked. the whole bathroom was black with mould and lets not even start on the stove!! this was AFTER the real estate made them come back and clean it up 'properly', eeeeww gross!
Cally: yeah the tugging on the ear doesnt sound too great. does it look red? maybe get a pharmacist to check it out (saves waiting for a DR sometimes!)...oh i can be impatient!
MD:  to you babe! that really sucks that he is going for so long. and bummer that you guys cant go with him! Well when i FINALLY get to canberra we'll definitly have to catch up!!
we are soo buying Big Love 1!! we are addicted!
oh there's a kindergym here! but i thought they were for older kids??
do you think the gymbaroo book is any good?? i wanna buy it, but if in practice it's not that great, then i wont bother.
yeah, we are pretty devastated about our dog stella. it came out from the blue. so hopefully the guy will be able to tell us what we can (if anything) do. she has epilepsy, which i think has added to her anxiousness. but still, i dont think that i could ever trust her around kids again, and that doesnt bode well for her and Leila. :(
but, i will keep an open mind and see what he reckons...
Leanne: glad to hear that the party was a blast! did you get any good ideas?? i have been trawling the magazine aisles for any party issues...i want to really keep it simple, yet memorable. that said i did see the COOLEST little party dress by collette dinnigan enfant...it has "fairy" written on the front and has a gorgeous little ra ra tutu type thing on the bottom...but the $$ were too scary to contemplate!!
hello to everyone else! i had better dash..
P.S. does anyone have good recommendations on pushbar trikes?? i have been looking for them for leila's 1st birthday and there doesnt seem to be a great deal around...
-
i have a new name :)
you will all find out why soon...;)
-
hi everyone! so sorry for being quiet. haven't even been able to "lurk" so i don't really know what's been happening. can't do personals. except for yesterday and today's posts....some of it anyway.
md, hugs on dh going away. i really admire you (and everyone else whose dh/dp's go away) as i struggle with dh going away for just the weekend.
anyway, haven't even been reading coz' had to put the computer in the office (as opposed to the dining table) coz' the in-laws were here. it's only just come back down to the dining table yesterday.
we're doing fine. max is not yet walking but i think that's coming soon as she's pushing herself to stand up and stands without support for about half a minute. can also see her eyeing a target but falls before she can get the legs moving towards the goal. another tooth has come (thankfully without much hassle for us). only issue at the moment is that she's got the runs and is off her solids. she's been off solids since friday when she vomitted 2x. think she might be paranoid of having solids. she was also feverish last friday so took her to the dr who discounted ear infection and meningitis and said it was probably just viral.
oh, not sure who it was asking about paracetamol coz' bub didn't like panadol....same thing with max. can't make her take panadol. she spewed when she had a taste of it last friday. went and got nurofen and she took it happily. so maybe get anything BUT panadol and bub will take to it.
have really missed everyone (bubs and mums). hope i will be able to keep up again.
:)

Rainforest - I love the new name. Now come on tell us why....has it got something to do with being up the duff? Lol I'm getting excited now and jumping to conclusions!
Fianne - Welcome back, its nice to hear that you and your family are doing well. Max sounds like she's got you busy!
MD - I cant thank you enough for your sinus remedy! Its so simple and I guess I should have thought of it sooner. I suffered with that darn headache for almost two weeks and as soon as I started using the fess and warm face cloths it cleared up! Sorry to hear that your DH is going for 3 months, you are very brave indeed. I love the idea of using a wedding dress to make a christening gown for bub, its so special. Did you decide on E's christening outfit? Did I miss that part? I think a suit is fine. And you are right its a good idea to get something nice that E can maybe one day use on her own children. Its so special. We have DP's christening gown here and its so gorgeous, its not even old fashioned as I thought it would be. Though we wont be using it as we decided not to do a christening.
Clare - Wow what an incredible and inspiring story, they could write a really good book together. Thats such a great idea chucking toys into a basket and swapping them with other mums and bubs! So sorry to hear about Stella, what a bummer. Hopefully it was just a once off incident, but I guess from now on you will feel like you cant trust her 100% around Leila.
Leemar - Glad your neices party was a hit.
Noni - Oh no the fungal infection doesnt sound nice. What did the doc say? Yay for the new washing machine!
Cally - Hope it isnt an ear infection. Are you going to take her to the doc after all?
Arte - Maddie is also an 8am waker and anything before that is not on lol. So glad that you have a neighbour with a bub.
Falguni - We had our all night benders as well, but we are so over that now!! I guess we have no choice as well with a bubba!
Well now that I am feeling better I must say I am 100% happier, I feel motivated once again and I dont groan and moan when Maddie needs my attention. Still a tad sick with a sore throat (& losing my voice ahh!) and the works but not as bad as I was. I think being that sick really took it outta me, gosh it was horrible I dont want to be that sick ever again! Guess its unavoidable with kids though. I also got a bit down as I kept thinking its my fault she is getting so sick as I didnt BF her! Anyway that silly thought is at the back of my mind now. Still a tad worried about Maddie, I might take her to the doc on Wed as her cough isnt improving much. Her conjunctivitis seems to be on the mend though, I've been bathing her eyes in salt water and camomile tea & also using drops. Apart from that we are so proud of our little girl, she is trying to pull herself up on furniture now but so far only gets as far as her knees. Also she is trying to get onto two knees from sitting, but can only get as far as the one and rocks. I think she will be crawling within a month or so. Also we had a big family meal with the rellies on Sat night & Maddie sat in her chair and had a bit of everything we ate then also polished off a bowl of yoghurt, she looked so proud of herself as everyone was giving her praise. Its been an exciting weekend here with all these new developments, just shows you how fast they grow its amazing.
-
Just quickly because I have to go out but..
Rainforest - Are you finally engaged??????
MM, Maddie isn't sick because you didn't BF. BF bubs get sick too, it helps but it isn't a magic barrier to illness so don't ever feel bad about it. Glad to hear you are feeling better and yay for Maddies developments. It really is amazing how quickly they grow.
Clare, so sorry about Stella, don't know what I would do. Hope the behaviorist can help you.
Fianne, good to see you, sounds like Max is doing really well. Hope you survived the IL visit lol
-
Morning.
Rainforest- very tropical! I like it. ;)
Someone mentioned Green tea, sorry can't remember who, but i jus wanted to say that i was unaware that it had the same amount of caffine as regular tea, infact it is from the same bush, but prepared in a different manner....... so there ya go. So giving it to bubs might not help with their sleeping!
Cally- there must be something in the air, we are suddenly having 5am wakeups too. Too early for me. I kick my DH too Arte!
Clare- Bummer about your dog. It is heart breaking if the suddenly become a danger. Particularly as it is not usual for them. Sorry, i don't have any push bike recommendations. Not much help am i???
MM- Lu is still BF, and she has had 5 colds in 4 weeks! So it is not your fault it all, it is this crummy weather which the bugs thrive in, that combined with the fact that these babies love to lick everything they can including the floor!
MD- What did you decide about the baptism?
Lazy day at home, cooking lasagne. We have a couple of guys staying with us. They are filming Deer. :dunno: I am sure they would love to shoot them, but you are not allowed to shoot on this property, as it is part of a water catchment area. (i am secretly pleased, i like our resident deer!)
Might cook a cake too.

bit of a vent coming!!
last night dp was yelling at me because it was late and he wanted to go to bed and i was sooo exhausted that i was literally falling asleep in between things he was asking me to do and not helping him put asha to bed.. id spent the whole frigging day washing and cleaning up and i even cooked him a roast dinner.. i just feel like nothings ever going to be good enough.. i am so exhausted because asha wont sleep in her own bed so i dont get any proper sleep because i am always aware of her and what shes doing because i am worried she will fall off the bed and then she gets me up early lately too to have breakfast and all he cares about is himself and how tired he feels from working.. i just dont know how long i can keep doing everything by myself.. i spend so much time cleaning and washing and then he comes home and chucks **** everywhere or has his friends over the day afterive done a big clean and just trash the place pretty much :(
