Noni, well I guess you're lucky cos you're at the start of your family...LOL at paddy wagon coming up the street just as you're having that thought though, our gorgeous bubs grow up into teenagers and that brings all sorts of drama with it I'm sure!
MM - oh I meant to congratulate you on your choice to defer. I know better than anyone what a tough decision that is, but it will still be there for you next year. You have that goal of teaching burning bright in your heart, and trust me, 6/8/10 years go very fast once you're a mummy!
-
Another quickie from me. Lindsay isn't too bad now since he's had his first dose of redipred, but there is still tonight we have to get through. For those that don't know, croup is a viral infection of the airways, where they can narrow right down and make it hard for them to breathe. They also get a very distinctive cough, like a seal bark and they breathe with a stridor, which is a sound their breathing makes as it passes through the narrowed airway. It usually appears at night when the air is cold (cold air makes it more pronounced). It may or may not be accompanied with a fever (Lindsay has never gotten a fever with it, Erin on the other hand always gets a really high fever when she gets it - yeah, lucky me to have two kids that get it and I kid you know they have sometimes gotten it at the same time - imagine the fun that is!) he first got it at 10mth old and has had it every winter since except for last year, so I thought he'd grown out of it, but apparently he hasn't.
Kate, I read your birth story hun. I wanted to add too in here that even though it wasn't what you wanted, you are so lucky that they caught the abruption early or it could have been very bad. My sister had a baby girl in jan last year and she had a placental abruption and they didn't catch it in time until she started bleeding severely and they only just got her baby out in time - both my sister and her baby lost a lot of blood and she spent 8wks in the NICU and nearly died. She now has medically aquired cerebal palsy and at 19mths still cannot sit or crawl. She is very bright though. I'm not saying this to make you feel bad for feeling bad kwim? I just wanted to share my experience of it and that I understand. for you hun.

Hi girls!
well i have some time (finally!) to get on here and type!! today has been on the wrong side hellish with dear leila. the poor cherub is really off-colour. i am guessing it's a sore throat as she is refusing to eat anything other than really really pureed food or booby. i gave her some mashed banana and she shot me 'dagger' looks with her eyes and promptly burst into hysteria...why do they do this when DHs are away??!!
MM: ouch! sorry that you lost the essay. i feel for ya. have had that happen a couple of times, and it ALWAYS happens at the last minute. DH once lost his entire PhD. luckily he had a hard copy and had to manually type it all in again!
i can vouch for the time off. i took 12 months off. i figured that i was pg, and the stress from the horrid environment i was at at ANU wasnt worth it, so i took leave and then transferred. so just wanted to say that it can be done and you will get it done. :D
Sherie: maybe we should start our own baby buddies thread called 'the house of eternal coughs' LOL!! i'm telling ya, after only 3 nights of constant coughing from Ls room, i am going barmy from the lack of zzzzz's.
i hope that his croup clears up quickly.
Noni: ha ha ha!! i love the kids in the paddy wagon showing up just as you were daydreaming about bubbies! ahhhh, the sweet sweet future that may hold such surprises! going by leila's cheekiness ATM i think i should be concerned! LOL!
MD: easier said than done, but i wouldn't be too worried about the eating at this stage. the growing is really requiring so much from their little bodies and some kids (Leila included) just have ridiculously fast metabolisms.
Leila started at the 0% then went to 50% in about 3 weeks and hung around there up unitl 7 months, then dropped right off to 15%. went and got her checked out at the GP and he told me that she is perfectly within range. i was told by the MACH nurse here to feed as much as they want...and with leila that is pretty much constantly. i mean, she sometimes will eat just as much as i do!
Rainy: ooohhhhhh how exciting!! i hope the u/s photo has pride of place on the fridge!! i just love that first looksie!! i remember just not believing that she was really in there. DH was completely gobsmacked and silent (trust me, a miracle in itself!).
Pregpan: yeah can't help you too much on that one. i would def bring some nappies (just to make the transition easier in case you can't find them the day you arrive). and some jars of tucker. i agree with the others and start a thread....
Cally: glad that MIL got to take the time off. it saves on stress and guilt and all that! and like you said it means that there will be more quality time rather than just mad dashing...
anyway i had best cut this one off in case i lose it!

Thanks Sherie on the reassurance about S birth. It feels good to get it out finally. I'm thinking of contacting the hospital to get a copy of my notes. To try to get another prospective...
Best wishes for everyone having a sleep-filled night tonight.
-
Morning everyone
Kate -I also read your birth story and wanted to also send you hugs - it is a shame things didnt go the way you wanted during the birth, though of course gorgeous S is the outcome you always dreamed of. I hope you are able to get some closure to it through downloading here and also the hospy notes. I also wanted to say you are so brave going to the hospy all by yourself etc etc, you amazed me!!
Ok gotta go do some work - hope you are all well.
-
Clare - hope L is feeling a bit better today, poor little thing.
Rainy - glad the u/s went well. I couldn't stop looking at the picture the whole way home in the car, it wasn't real until then!
Pregpan - I know K loves the Rafferty's Garden lumpy stuff for emergencies and when we are in Canberra so that would be some easy food to take with you.
Trill - how was L overnight? Hope the medicine helped him.
K remembers that it's bath after dinner time - last night she was pointing away at the bathroom and didn't want to play with DH. She's done it a few times, but luckily seems to remember that she only has a bath every second night so we don't have battles on the other nights. Her day sleeps have been going really well lately too. Two sleeps, total of about 2.5 hours. Although I wouldn't mind if she knocked 30 minutes off that and slept for an extra bit in the mornings!
Oh, she's awake, better go.

Hi Hot Mumma's,
Just popped in to say DH had the snip yesterday so my baby producing days are over. DH is feeling really well and is in no pain. X's Grommets are now going in on the 2nd Sept which is better as its after Livvi's Birthday. Xavier has also had exezma last week but is now all gone thank god for the dr and his cream.. Then Olivia had this terrible rash in her fat creases omg it looked terrible so I took her off to the dr on monday and she has dermatitis so got some cream for her and now its heaps better. Jordy is great and so am I atm so thats good.
Clare- I hope L gets better soon
Sherie- Poor L
Rainy- Congrats on the u/sound.
Hello to everyone
Better go as I am at work with heaps to do...
will try and catch up tonight.
-
Welcome to the *club* Leanne LMAO. Glad to hear that he isn't suffering too badly for the cause. Poor Olivia, I hope it wasn't itchy for her. I see Alister scratch at his neck sometimes when his eczema is itchy. Im sure all will go well for X's grommets - and then I hope that's it for your lot this year LOL.
Cally, Alister runs (well, toddles as fast as his little legs will carry him) when I tell the other kids it's time for a bath. But he only has a bath every second night too and he gets a bit stroppy when he realises its not his bath night LOL. Poor little kid will stand there trying to pull his clothes off too.
No worries Kate. Defiantley get a copy of your notes - it might shed some light on things, especially if you couldn't really understand the Dr.
Clare, I think you're onto something, but you know what, it would still be the same old faces LMAO. I hope she has a better night tonight.
Well Lindsay is back at school, but still has a cough - not croupy though - and he slept through last night without waking up coughing. So he is on the mend now. He will probably just have a bit of a cough and snuffly nose for a while now like he always does afterwards.

Hi Girls!
just a quick selfish post as i need to vent to someone!
went to the local supermarket today with L to pick up a few things and on the way home i heard a really distressed dog. the noise was coming from the park, so i diverted my trip home to scan the park from the pathway and lo and behold there are two men there one holding the dog on a chain and the other with a big f*#k off stick and a pillow thing. basically the guy would smash the dog over the head and then make the dog attack the pillow. the poor thing was terrified, but unfortunately out of no choice of its own attacking. i am feeling really sick to my belly watching this. i have seen it before when i was growing up in gladstone and back there it meant only one thing: dog fighting. selfish, cruel human beings i saw today. and what can you do?? i scanned the rspca website but there doesnt appear to be much to go on cause they were in a park and there is no way for them to follow them up. i know they live local as there was no car around...i guess i'll just make sure that stella is locked inside when we go out for the next couple of months. and i'll be wary of going to the dog park...
sorry for the vent, i just can't stand seeing sh*t like that. i felt so powerless.
-
OMG Clare, that's awful! Maybe you could call the police and tell them what you saw?
-
yeah i thought about that. but i just don't know if what i could say would be of any use IYKWIM. it seemed to be so random. that said if i see them again...
but i'll have a think about it and chat to DH and see what he thinks when he gets home too...
-
Thanks everyone for your reassurance re defering uni. And yes I did scream, cry and bash the computer lol.
OMG Clare thats terrible!! You must have felt so helpless, and you cant exactly approach two men and a vicious dog to give them a piece of your mind. Call the cops and see what they say? How can they do that in public? Some people are just....ahh terrible. :( Poor dog. Losing a PHD, now that would be the worst!
Kate - I'll be off to read your birth story soon!
Trillian - Thats so sad for your sister. :( So glad they caught her in time though. I want to join the coughing group too lol. Glad that its not croup. Its hard to tell isnt it, I thought M's cough was croup too.
Leemar - Sorry to hear the baby making days are over, but you have 3 beautiful children you lucky thing. Hope Olivia is better soon.
Pregpan - I have the same dillema when going o/seas. I am taking nappies and a formula tin. As for food, I was hoping she'd eat what we eat. However I might take Cally's tip and take some of the raffertys for just in case. Watch for Bali belly and dont eat anyway dodgy looking.
Cally - K is so clever remembering bath time!
Rainy - YAY glad to hear the bub is healthy.
Anyone heard from Ange? Wonder how she is going?
MD - Thanks for what you wrote about deferring uni, it really is a hard choice. Hope all is well with you and your babies.
Kate - Dont stress about the birthday party, just take it as it comes. As you said, order a pizza if all fails lol.
Noni - I am the same with wanting another, but I am containing myself! I want a ring first! ;)
We finally went to swimming lessons today after a few weeks away. The teacher looked at us as if to say who the hell are you hehe. The thrush hasnt gotten any worse but isnt getting better either. At least I think its thrush, she is all red and irritated but no discharge really? Sorry if tmi. The cough WAS getting better, but the past couple of nights she has been coughing and congested again. Poor bub she has such a weak chest.
-
MM - poor Maddie!! I know what ypu mean, N seems to have a constant cough or cold these days - i have stopped worrying too much about it and just manage it as it happens... i guess this is life in winter!! how did she enjoy swimming? i have just found a class on sundays so i think i will be enrolling N when we get back from Bali.
Clare - how awful! glad you didnt approach them though.keep an eye out for them - how horrible!
I was also wondering how Ange was..
and also missing JazMum!
re bali - i have found a baby hire place there who will also provide nappies, wipes etc and some baby food. i think they do forumal too but not the one we use... so i will take that. N eats pretty much what we do so i think we will be ok. we are staying in a v luxe place so i think the kitchen there should be ok and then the 2nd half we have a villa so i can cook (and it has a chef so they will make what we want i guess)... i cant wait! will take some raffertys as well JIC but i think he will be fine food wise. the place i found does heinz jars etc so i can get that if i need to when we are there.
MM when are you going to thailand? i forgot when...
i am now nervous about the flight as dh will meet us there... i figure it isnt THAT long so we will survive. i am going to be in melb for a few days before so mum can come to the airport with me which will be helpful - we have to take SO MUCH stuff! gone are the fancy free baby free days...
i have decided to see a chinese dr/herbalist to get a regular cycle etc. i still dont have AF back and it took us 12 months to get preg last time so i want to get myself in tip top shape... hoping to get an appt next week. (exciting!)
-
Pregpan, good luck with the herbalist, I hope they can sort you out. Another though too re the trip, just check what their policy is on taking formula with you on the plane JIC kwim?
Hayley, Lindsay did have croup, but the croupy cough was gone today, replaced by a normal one LOL. I hope Maddies thrush clears up soon, poor little girl.
-
yep i will check re the formula though I will pack the big tin in N's suitcase so just alittle bit with me for 1 (or maybe 2 if i am desp) bottles in the plane... i think this should be ok? i cam get the water on board so no liquids. i will tale some food on with me too - but he wont need much - maybe a banana a couple of milk arrowroots for the testing times and a jar of something else in case..i am so excited - we need a holiday SO bad!
N is even more frustrated now he is on the move (a bit) - he just wants to run i can tell!!! it is like he wants to be picked up but then he wants to be on the ground... wants to move and cant as much as he wants... aaah he is ghetting there now...
he is going through such a gorgeous time at the moment, just doing cute stuff ALL THE TIME!
-
I had a look into formula and it is fine to take in your luggage. For the plane I am taking one of those dispensers with formula in it, but the bottles cannot have water. So as soon as you get on the plane have them fill your baby bottles with boiling water to give them time to cool down. Good idea with the milk arrowroots I will remember that one!
We are going to KL & Penang in about 3 and a half weeks time now. We so need a holiday too Pregpan! I've never been to Bali, would love to go. Good luck with the herbalist.
Trillian - Here I was thinking croup is only a baby thing. GREAT! lol.
-
Pregpan, it's a great age they are in ATM - they have so many 'lightbulb' moments when they realise how something works, or how to make it work and just life in general for them is a surprise everyday.
H, nope, not just a baby thing. Touch wood Erin hasn't had it this year as she always gets it very bad. They are supposed to grow out of it, but I would have thought that mine were done with it too.
-
Isn't it great how much they are all growing and learning at the moment? I think I am falling more in love with K now than I was before as I see this little personality develop and watch her exploring and learning. She is really on the move now - last night was the first time she let go of something and walked to me (usually I just stand her up and let go and she walks). She walked to DH weeks ago! She did it heaps last night and has been doing it this morning lots too. Am so pleased, we see my parents in less than 2 weeks after their big trip away and she wasn't even crawling when they left!
Pregpan - good luck with the herbalist next week. Hope it sorts out AF and fingers crossed it doesn't take you another 12 months!
Better go and entertain her!
