Afternoon Ladies, hope we are all having a great Xmas.
Boys absolutely adored thier bikes & Jack already has the hang of the thumb push one. Spreading the pres out over the course of the day. They not into pres big time & it keeps them occupied a bit more.
Hope your having fun xox
Merry Christmas everyone!!!!!!! I hope we're all having a great day.
I'm in a lull ATM - Mum, her partner and youngest brother have not long left after being here for lunch and I'm about to go get organised to go to the IL's for dinner. Dh is at work and the kids are all resting (Alister and Paige are asleep though) and so I thought I'd pop on here ;)
haircuts went well, but didn't get Alister's done cause they were all flat out doing everyones hair for Christmas (what is with that? does it really matter if your roots are showing on Christmas day?) but my hairdresser said bring him back in the new year and she'll do it.
This morning started at 6am here LOL. I got up and did the Santa thing at 4am when DH got up for work and couldn't go back to sleep, so came on here. Lindsay was up at just after 5 to go to the loo, but he didn't go back to sleep either and by 6am Alister was awake. The girls didn't wake up till about 20 past (like that made much of a difference ROFL). Alister was back in bed by 7.30 LOL and slept for nearly 3hrs, but that gave me time to cook brekkie for us (bacon and eggs) and have a bit of a play. I even had a bit of a snooze too. Alister was absolutely hilarious opening presents and we had a few tanties LOL when he had no more to open. He also thought eating lollies at 7am would be a super idea and threw the biggest tanty when I wouldn't let him.
G, just in case you log back on today, A will go to bed at 8pm, sleep til about 6.30-ish and then down again for 2-3hrs by 11am and that seems to do him well enough in the sleep dept.
sounds like a big day sherie
thanks for all your feedback on sleep- just a quick question about it all though-
today, for example, L woke at 6.30am, by about 10am he was exhausted- he ended up going to sleep at 11.20am but then he woke at 12.30pm. this meant that by 5pm he was absolutely beside himself tired. what should i do in this situation- i would love his day sleep to be 2-3hours long, but if they wake after an hour or so, what do you do?
btw, just found out my pita bil has been getting drunk and telling everyone in sydney the sex of our baby, even though we specifically told him not to tell anyone. i'm so angry with him. this is the same bil who told the pil that we were pg before we got the chance to, once again after he was specifically told not to tell anyone, as we told him quite early (before 12wks)...to make matters even worse, i know for a fact that dh has told him the chosen name. i am so worried that he's going to spill it. he probably already has. i feel so upset about it, as i have only told the name to one person (it was actually ange, last time we met up, as she is obviousely not related to anyone close to us and i know i can trust her not to tell anyone). it's really important to me that no-one finds out the name before the baby is born as i don't want to hear people's opinions on it. this whole thing has really upset me.
sorry for long xmas day rant!
  Rainy
hi all
just a quick note to tell you all i am alive and wish you a merry xmas. i hope you are all having a great day with your families.
i have had a quick skim... so sorry if i have missed anything major.
rainy - i would be so mad if that happened to me - your dh must be the good one in his family!!
clare - oooh exciting!!!! no idea the earliest you can test, though now that my dates have been revised i realised i must have tested right on about 12-14 days past ovulation.
kate - yay on the move
sherie - glad everything removed etc in the op - spo great
md - yay on being home i am sure xmas was extra special for you. thansk for the pm honey
afm we are in noosa atm having agood time - both N and i have been sick (tonsilitis) and poor N had an accident - cut himself on a tin which resulted in a lot of blood (he got an artery app) and a mad rush to a dr. but aside from that all is great LOL!!!
will be back soon....
Hope everyone had a good day. We had presents very spread out as there were so many and trying to fit in food and naps as well!! I think K's favourite was her grobag for her teddy bear - he has been put to bed so much this afternoon. MIL presents were a bit weird. I told her K would like a basic little stroller like at childcare to push teddy around the backyard (even showed her a picture) and she's ended up with one that certainly can't go outside and has all these fancy buttons and makes noises. Also a scary looking doll that has a big 3+ on the front of the pack. Anyway....
I ate far too much, but mum and I have just got back from a massive walk so that was good.
K still has quite a temp, but no signs of anything else. One molar is through and can feel another two coming. She's very snuggly too, which I must admit I am quite enjoying her sitting on my lap with her head resting on my shoulder. No sign of spots.
Rainy - what a PITA BIL!! Might need to remove him from any further interesting news. If L only sleeps for an hour at lunchtime, could you try a short 15-30 min power nap at 4:30?
PP - glad you're enjoying the break, you haven't had much luck with sickness lately!
Trill - wow, that was an early start. Sounds like the kids all had a good day though.
Clare - make sure you keep us up to date with the testing!
Andie - glad the boys enjoyed their bikes.
MD - hope the Christmas back home was as good as you were expecting.
Morning all!
Cally, I bet when your MIL got to the shops, she saw the basic strollers, then saw the OTT one ;) and thought that it would be much better kwim? Maybe the doll can just stay in it's box for a few years LOL.
PP! You've had a huge few days. I hope N doesn't have any lasting scars from his cut. It's so scary when they hurt themselves and it bleeds everywhere. Hope you're over the tonsilitis soon.
G  me thinks BIL might need to be kept out of the loop in future, he just cannot be trusted. that is so disrespectful it's not funny. What did your DH do about it? With the sleep, sometimes they will only have a short sleep, even if you know they need a longer one. With Alister, if he does start to wake, I pop his dummy back in and readjust his sheet etc and he will go back to sleep but sometimes he is quite happy to just stay there awake and give himself time to wake up properly and he isn't usually cranky then. But if he does have an early start and you know he is tired earlier than what he normally goes down, I would put him into bed as soon as he starts to get tired. Some days I've had Alister back in bed by 9am and that seems to work fine. On the rare day though he will need a short nap later in the afternoon.
hi girls!
rainy: i think the earliest i can test is like sunday or monday...so hanging out and waiting waiting LOL!
that really really sux about your BIL. i think it is pretty insensitive of him to spill like that. i understand that it is exciting and all, but seriously, what's the problem with surprises??!!
PP: oooh that sounds really nasty on all fronts! poor you guys with the tonsilitis. i get soooo sick from it it aint funny. i hope you are doing ok!
and poor N on the major cut! did he need stitches or anything??
Sherie: your xmas day sounded packed girl! and yeah, i dont get the xmas haircut either...usually cause we are just sitting in someones loungeroom twiddling our thumbs all day...LOL! maybe i need more exciting xmas's!
me again.. yep we havent had much luck on the sickness front lately...
anyway, N seems to be doing a lot better today and my throat is also a lot less sore, so thats a good sign - just intime to go home tomorrow LOL!!! oh well we have another week at the coast next week so hopefully he will be 100% for that week. The finger didnt get stitches, but it got 'glued'. i think the dr wanted to stitch it but poor N was too hysterical.
oh so much mroe to say but N just woke up... back later probably. hope you are all haing a good day. xxx
PP: oh poor N! i have heard that glue is pretty awesome stuff tho'. can sting a bit which probably didnt help his mood!
isnt always the way that we get sick when we are on hols??? at least you 'tricked' the bugs and are having a second holiday next week!
Cally: yeah i think sherie is right. your mil saw the basic model then fell in love with the OTT one! LOL!. leila also got a dolly. she is loving it! it comes everywhere with us and she has been havng the most long winded conversations with it LOL! she also b/f dolly ALL THE TIME!!!! oh jeez! LOL!
First of all a very Big Merry (slightly-after) CHRISTMAS everyone!!! Big Hugs to all, hope you all had a wonderful day sharing it with people you love.
Clare I was LOLing as I had the exact same moment in ToysRUs too, except ours was too big to fit in the car and is safely stowed in the removals truck, ready for Happy Birthday Miss Two Year Old. Hugs on the public meltdown moment, we're all in for plenty of those over the next coupla years, always when you're doing something urgent/important too. Hope you gave DH a good talking to!!:
and we came across those radio flyer trikes with the parent steer handle and they were on sale for $75!! normally they are around the $170ish mark, so i had to buy one.
Noni, how did DH's birthday cook up go? Sounds yarmy, all the things I can't have until my gallbladder is G-O-N-E! LOL
Andi, DD1 has a small round tramp (8 foot I think). It's great, the round ones don't make kids bounce off the side so much because they are evenly tensioned. We wanted a small one so it doesn't take too much room in our yard and it's just perfect. You know you're making the right choices with childcare when you see your kids thriving, don't you. :)
Rainy, my sister is a social worker and I can hear her voice in my head saying "Borderline personality disorder" re your MILs irrational and unbalanced nature. TBH you did nothing to set her off. She would find something to go off about even if you did not exist. Sounds just like my own mother. We have learnt to create a buffer zone around ourselves and just let what she does wash. It creates a big hole in your life where that 'mother energy' should be, best just to mourn that and find supportive mother-figures in the other wise older women you have around you. xxx
Re the sleeps, Rainy, just do what suits you. If you skip a late sleep and push his bedtime forwards, he might get up at the same time but get a longer middle of day nap, kwim? That's what's happened here, anyway. Try it for a week and if it's a disaster after that, then you can go back to the other pattern and try again in a few weeks time.
Arte, yep, there really is no place like home. Although TBH it hasn't really sunk in yet. I need a few more days chilling out and soaking up the energy of the place. Glad we get a little holiday before I've got to deal with moving in! LOL W is such a boy loving those vehicles!
OK well it's been such a long time, thought I'd better split the post up into manageable chunks. (OR I could just not talk so much haha ;)).
MM glad you remembered the cream cheese trick! LOL @ M eating curry. I'm going to try E on sushi rolls soon since it's one thing I can eat. Clare I'm LOLing at zucchini soup, we usually have millions of zukes and I make everything zucchini under the sun including cake, but this year I have to BUY them (god forbid)!
Cally, are you anticipating Chicken pox? So glad no spots. Maybe it was just a viral thing with bad timing? I'm cracking right up about K putting her teddy to bed! So cute! We get totally age-inappropriate gifts from the ILs too (esp for DD1 - who is obviously older than they realise!) but this year they sent money so DD bought games & I went shopping at ELC!
Kate, gave a little woohoo when I saw you got your wireless situation sorted, it's great, isn't it? LOL at Sarah climbing like a little monkey! E's thought about it a few times but I'm hoping she's a ground-dweller like her sister. Haha I got your wish of a magical self cleaning house (well at least for a couple of weeks anyway) cos the housekeeping ladies keep coming every day! Gotta love the serviced apartment thaing.
Noni, boo to your FIL. FWIW parents are just weird sometimes. xxx
OMG Clare I'm dying of suspense. Nothing wrong with alcohol fuelled conceptions, we got E in a mist of Christmas champagne bubbles LOL. I tested on day 10 or 11 and got a nearly invisible visible line using lullaby conceptions tests.
Trill, OMG I can't believe you had to get up at 4 am to do the Santa thing. I'd not long been asleep at that time LOL. Sounds like you had a lovely day, good on A for working out the present thing! E still didn't get it even after the millionth pressie. She's enjoying her toys today tho.
Rainy - got to add re the sleep thing, sometimes when they're getting manic at the end of the day what they need is food - not necc sleep...kwim? It's when you want to have filling things you know they will eat for sure. We've found E copes better in the afternoon if she has her main meal at lunchtime, then another big snack late afternoon, then if she plays with her tea it doesn't matter, kwim? Do you think that might help? re your BIL spilling the beans!
Pregpan - far out about Noah cutting himself! Scary. glad he's ok. xxx How are you feeling now, is the tummy getting better?
Is anyone braving the sales today? We have to wait until tmrw (SA). Going out to get me some Splaydes (1070s throwback, I know) AND some funky Christmas plates (Clare Mackie). Will save the heavy duty dishwasher shopping for next week I think. Gotta recharge my brain first.
hello everyone, happy boxing day :D
md- that post was mammoth, i absolutely loved it!
ok, i might have to give the food thing a try. tbh though, i think i'm going to end up going back to 2 sleeps again. it just doesn't seem to be working. he woke so early this morning and then only slept from 11-11.45 again...so i'm thinking a 3pm nap will be in order.
how exciting that you're back home. it must feel wonderful. are you back in your old house that you were living in before, or what's the situation with that? sorry if i've missed this info!
yes i agree mil has a borderline personality disorder, big time! tell me more about how you create the 'buffer zone'. i really need help with not letting her get to me.
pap- have a lovely time at the coast. is that the south coast that you go to?
clare- pls test on sunday. i don't think i can wait any longer than that :D
yes bil is a complete tool. i am really not happy at all...
sherie- i've learnt my lesson with bil. he will never be told anything from now on. i couldn't understand why dh didn't tell his brother before he came down to melb a couple of weeks ago that we were going to get married while he was here. he said that he didn't trust him not to tell anyone, and the last thing he wanted was mil doing something stupid like getting on a plane and coming down here if she caught wind of something. i couldn't believe he couldn't trust his own bro with something so important, but now i absolutely get it...never again...he's a jerk.
yes i don't really get the whole nice hair for xmas thing. i did make an appointment to get my eyebrows waxed before xmas, but then i cancelled it when i realised it was stupid!
cally- the grobag for teddies sounds so cute. when i was baby shopping the other day i saw that you can get full on maclaren prams for dolls now, i couldn't believe it! they even had portacots for dollies!
well we actually went down to the shops for a little bit this morning, crazy i know! but i wanted to swap a perfume that i was given ( i already had it). it was pretty crazy down there. dad made me do the self serve checkout thing at safeway- do you guys have that at yours? and it was so confusing and frustrating that i ended up stealing about a kg of grapes and a tommee tippee bottle. whoops!
wait till i tell dh that, he'll make me do it all the time
not much going on around here today, lots of cricket on tv and not much else
*sends a huge wave across the border to MD* Hello! So everything is starting to settle nicely for you and you have some sense of normalcy back? It's great to hear from you  LOL at you buying Splaydes - we got some for our wedding and they even live in a crimson velvet case ROFL. But we do use them when we are having a divine cake that can only be eaten with one.
G, I don't like the self service things cause I can guarantee that at least one of the kids will touch the plate thingy that your bags sit on and it confuses the computer because of the weight etc. Plus if I use the *real* ones LOL it keeps someone in a job. So how did you go with swapping the perfume? both MIL and Mum got me the same book and I didn't have the heart to tell MIL last night.
Clare, you will have to get a pick of her BF her dolly. Alister loves pushing the girls doll pram about, but I think that's just cause it has wheels LOL.
PP, fingers crossed you do trick the lurgy into thinking you are just going home and not galavanting off again LOL.
ETA - as for the sales, I don't think our Myer out here does the boxing day thing, but they have their sale going for all of January, so I will be sure to go there when I'm over in Wagga in a fortnight.
trill- yeah that's what i kept doing, not putting the items in the right area after i'd scanned them or something. it was so confusing and i reckon it takes heaps longer than going through a normal checkout. agree with you about the jobs thing too. it's my dad who makes me do it, i have no idea why...oh well, i made him shoplift today and he was mortified once we got outside and i told him what we'd stolen he he he
the perfume swap went well, i had the receit so no drama. i actually didn't like the one i was given- it's too spicey or something so io never wear it. i got very confused in the shop trying to find another one though, there's so many to choose from!
i think you should def swap one of the books.
I'd like too swap one, but I have no idea where Mum got hers from and knowing mum she wont have the receipt still (she is hopeless like that - she's been known to buy very expensive presents and toss the receipt - thus doing her ass if she needs a warranty claim) and I don't want to hurt MIL's feelings either kwim? So I think I'm just going to have to have two copies LOL.
