Hi 11 and welcome to the thread - gee I hope you did some "educatin" on behalf of your pregnant friend!! :) While you're amazed at how much your little one has changed, I'm amazed at how much I see reminds me of her behaviour in utero. There's a particular way she stretches then rolls her head and I think - I remember feeling that exact same movement! And as to her being a Donkey Child, yep those little feet are still up most of the time, kicking whatever they can!!
Well Squeaky Mouse kept us up last night with feeds EVERY TWO HOURS (& that's not from end to start of feed, that's from start to start so IDK, maybe just over an hour of sleep between feeds....)! Poor thing I think her tummy's all windy and hurting from the ABs I am taking. We had the Dunstan baby language DVD out last night and it didn't help decode any of the squawking...
Pregpan how exciting about BIL meeting Noah!
Cally and Leanne and everyone else who's having a rough time I hope you get to do something nice today. We went out and had our first proper public BF at Michel's Patisserie yesterday - there was a huge table of menopausal women there all chatting away and cooing over how gorgeous E is so it was a nice place to get started - you could "feel the love" in the room...! :)
Renee, how are you going, are you managing to eat yet?
-
MD- Congrats on your first public outing. How is your belly going? Mine was pretty sore yesterday but seems to be ok today so far. I am feeling much better today again so far as the days not over yet.
Have a great day
-
Leanne - tummy is feeling much better - still oozing though not actively spitting like it was (nice to not have to get up and strip the bed, wash the pjs and ten sets of undies first thing in the morning)!! I've stopped taking the digesic (still had a couple of days worth but forgot to take it on time and didn't really hurt so I've switched over to Panadol now). Had a moment yesterday when we were out - I was sure I was about to start haemmoraghing or something, the cramps were so bad, turns out it was wind pain hahaha! It's more sort of achey pain now and I still feel really tired. I guess the trick is not to overdo it on any given day...
-
MD- I am glad your tummy is feeling better. I know what you mean about wind pain that was me a couple of weeks ago.lol. Oh well I suppose we will be back to normal soon, or what ever normal is hahahaha.
I am looking forward to going out on thursday to the shops and get Olivia weighed.
-
Woohoo on your trip out - something nice to look forwards too - when you do think you're going to try driving?? DH is home for another few weeks so I'm not going to try until he's nearly back at work again. Good timing having him home for the school hols! :) I have told DH we have to go out every day this week - just little trips - to get me used to things like having a shower in the morning and making mental lists of things to do - gawd my brain can still only handle one thing at a time!
-
Morning all (I just scrape in with the 'morning' part LOL). I nearly had a teary moment last night, just from being overtired mainly. Paige was being a little rotter nearly all day and I just about cracked it with her, as I don't want to yell at her or discipline her as she might resent Alister for it (most of the time she was poking him etc) kwim? So I just have to be more creative with my methods with her ATM.
Alister gave me a good 6hrs sleep last night, I was expecting him to wake at 2 but he woke at 4 instead, then he went right back down after his feed and woke again at half 8. Gosh I hope this lasts though.
Marydean, glad to hear the wound has started to settle down for you and is starting to feel better. Fingers crossed last night was a once off for you and Miss E gives you a better night tonight.
Leanne, I'm looking forward to going out on my own tomorrow too. Alister needs some clothes and stuff and I just want to get out. DH brought enough food while I was in hospital not to need groceries this week, but I still want to get out.
Cally hun, don't worry about Katie's weight too much. Paige lost just over the 10% and it took her a good three weeks to get back to her birth weight and was also just a slow gainer too - averaged about 100gms a week. You have to look at weight gain over a 4 week period and get an average as sometimes they can put on heaps on week and hardly anything the next. Plus sometimes they might grow longer in a week too and not 'put on' so much. You are doing a great job though.
Hi ele_ven 27 and welcome! Glad to hear you've got the feeding sorted - it's half the battle won isn't it? I hope the (.Y.) aren't too sore after being so engorged last night.
Joasia, haha! you found us LOL. Ouch at the daktarin experience too, I was cringing along with you when I read that. has your infection from the stitches cleared up?
Jaz, I love Hannah's nickname - Paige has a talking Peppa Pig and I can just picture her making those little noises, so cute!
Pregpan, IKWYM about them changing so much. They develop their own character's so quickly and grow so much.
-
Well its busy in here today.
Pregpan Noah is a gorgeous name. How exciting getting to see your BIL.
Ele I know what you mean about them changing. I made a photo montage of Logan today and it blew my mind to see how much he has changed. I cant wait for him to be able to smile and giggle and all the other milestones, yet I dont wan thim to get any bigger or change anymore.
Leeane well done getting rid of the thrush.
Well I am on the verge of giving up breast feeding. My right bb is shot. I have gotten rid of the mastitis but yesterday my right nipple was so sore I couldnt feed him, it left be in tears when I tried. Went to the Dr today who said there doesnt seem to be any infection just the nipple is tender from him having to feed off that side all the time to clear up the mastitis. I have to feed off the left and express the right, which still hurts but not as bad. Now my right bb is hurting again I am worried the mastitis is already back and in a different spot. I am hoping it is just bruised and tender or something along those lines. I dont have the hard spot yet but did have a fever when I was at the Dr. Feels like i have had nothing but trouble with feeding so far. Ok vent over sorry about that.
I hope everyone else is well. Enjoy your day.
-
Katie, don't apologise for having a vent. These first few weeks are rough enough as it is without having a bout of mastitis to boot. You've done really well to persevere and get rid of it, and it is a very hard decision to make when thinking about giving up BF. If you knew that you would have no more problems once your nipple is better, would you keep going with it? If so then keep going, as it does get better.
-
Thanks Sherie. I am pretty determined to keep persevering and will do so for as long as possible. Its just so hard to stay positive, especially when you add being tired to the mix. I am confident we will get past this and feel good knowing I have my gorgeous dh supporting me no matter what I choose to do.
-
hi everyone
ele - congratulations on the birth of Jasmin - i love that name
Pregpan - hope you had a good day with your bil. Fingers crossed you have a better night with Noah tonight
Leanne - glad the thrush has cleared and what a good girl Olivia is letting her mummy have a little bit of sleep.
Sherie - 6 hours sleep!! that's fantastic. Maybe Alister could have a gurgle in Hannah's ear lol.
Katie - you poor thing :( i hope all of the ouchiness disappears for you so you can enjoy feeding Logan. I hope the Mastitis doesn't return. Has your fever subsided?
Went for our second Clinic visit today. Hannah has grown 2.5cm and put on 600g in 2 weeks. This was good news for me, because she was just under her birth weight at our first visit - when she was 2 weeks old.
I then took the girls for a picnic in the park. I need to make sure that i still make special memories for them even though Hannah is keeping me busy.
-
Sherie- Yippeee on having 6 hours sleep.
MD- I hear you on the morning showers. I am hoping to start driving next week as my ob told me he would be happy for me to start at 5 wks so long as I was feeling ok. Hell I just want some independance back.
Katie- Good luck on BF I hope it gets better.
Jazmum- Congrats on Hannah putting on weight. And how lovley taking the girls on a picnic.
Well DH has just taken the boys to swimming lessons and Olivia is asleep. The house is so quiet its lovely.
-
DD has just woken from 5 hours of sleep, so I am feeling pretty good. Hope she doesn't want 3 hr feeds for the rest of the night!
Mum arrived today and has been v good. DD wouldn't settle after her lunchtime feed but mum took over while I got some sleep which was good.
Also managed to get out for a short walk again today which was nice.
Jazmum - well done on the weight gain - send some over this way!!
Katie - good luck with the feeding, hope the nipple gets better soon.
MD - glad the wound is looking better.
Sherie - well done on 6 hours sleep. Hope tonight is going as well for you.
-
Aha - I found it!!!!! Hope everyone is well! :D
-
LOL Queenie, it just wouldn't be September buddies without you hun.
Katie, I'm glad you feel that way. It makes a huge difference to things if we feel we have the support there to get us through it.
Jaz, Hannah is doing so well! I bet the girls loved the picnic too. Yesterday I hardly got anything done I was meant to do (housework etc) and spent a good hour or so reding to the girls. I didn't want them to feel 'passed over' for a basket of washing kwim? Plus it will still be there later on LOL.
Leanne, when your house is quiet, do you feel like you should be doing something or just relish the silence?
Cally, how did Miss Katie do last night? I hope she didn't give you 3hr wakings. It feels good to get outside and do something doesn't it?
Master A had another good night, but was a bit fussy during arsenic hour. I had him in his rocker while I was getting the veges ready, Dh ws doing meat on the BBQ, and then when we finally got it served he couldn't take it anymore and just cracked it. Then the phone rang LOL. So I had to feed him and eat my dinner later. Luckily he did settle OK after that. He woke at 3, so another good stretch, but then he woke right on 6.45 this morning - so DH had to placate him for a bit while I got Lindsay and Erin ready for the bus and then I fed him while DH took them to the bus. So a busy morning here - and I didn't even meltdown and cry ;)
DH goes back to work tonight, so I don't know how that will go but fingers crossed there's no drama's. I'm more worried about a repeat of this morning as Dh doesn't get home until after everything is done and Lindsay is on the bus.
-
Morning everyone,
Just thought I would quickly pop in and see how everyone is doing.
Logan had 2 big day sleeps yesterday and then did not want to sleep last night. I think he woke up at 4pm and went back to sleep around 10pm. He had a quick feed at 1am and slept until 6. He is asleep now so I have finaly got to do a little cleaning. I have been feeding him on both sides as my nipple is feeling alot better, thank you all for your support.
I hope your all well. Enjoy your day.
-
Good Katie, I'm glad the nipple is better. They reckon it takes until about the 6th week for BF to settle down, so if you're an optimist, you're halfway there already!
-
Hello Ladies,
Hi Queenie
Sherie- I want to do both although its just nice to sit in silence sometimes.
Katie- Good to see your nipple is ok now.
-
katie - great news that the nipple is doing well. Do you still clench your toes when you latch on.
Sherie - i do know what you mean. sometimes i need a reminder that the girls are growing so fast and they are way more important than housework.
hi everyone else - hope you all had a good nights sleep. I think i did. Can't quite remember lol.
Well i'm quite excited this afternoon. I had bought a Steelcraft moniter and we couldn't use it as there was too much interference. I was so disappointed because i really wanted one for when i'm outside playing with J and Z. I bought a Tomy one today from Big w and it Works!!!!!!!!!
i also bought a dummy. I held it in my hands for ages because i don't really want to use it. I just wanted it for those times when i know she is tired and i'm unable to spend the time rocking her to sleep. We'll see if I actually use it. (i'd better sterilise it this afternoon, just in case tonight is the night lol)
-
Hi ladies and babies!
Katie - glad your nipple is feeling better and more importantly YOU are feeling better! :)
Jazmum - Oh I can see you're having the same internal debate I'm having over "to dummy or not to dummy" - we used a dummy very successfully with DD1 and I think it's probably only a matter of time before we crack one open for Miss E. Just don't want to do it too early and muck the BFing about...The other thing is I can't remember about the sterilising, I think we used to boil ours in a saucepan of water for a few minutes (yep forgot a couple of times and ruined saucepans). YAY for your new monitor working!
Queenie, glad you made it in here - two weeks until term, might not be long now! :crossfingers:!
Sherie I think you're doing an amazing job getting all your kids sorted etc, I'm still full up just looking after Miss E...do wonder how I'll get on once DH is back at work and it's one big Marydean Show all day long! Still I feel like I can do just a little more each day, which is good.
Cally, hope you got another good stretch of sleep - DH reckons he was up for over an hour after one of the feeds last night (...??? I didn't hear anything???) - it'll be a while yet before our bubs really get into a recognisable pattern at all.
Well saw the OB today and he said wound is looking good, will still take a few weeks yet to heal completely though - no baths until it's sealed shut! :(
No probs with the bleeding either - you were all right. Also DH and I made hay while the sun was shining and saw a movie together this morning - before the school hols start LOL - E slept and fed and slept and fed and generally didn't notice anything strange going on! It wasn't a mums and bubs session so it's good it worked out ok.
DH is waltzing around with the Baby Bjorn on - he keeps saying how fabulously comfy it is...wonder if he'll think the same at 4.00 in the morning when he's pacing the floor! LOL
-
hi all
good to see everyone seems to be doing well today... I am too!
had a much better night with Noah last night, only had to get up twice and then DH took him after the 7am feed and I slept til 9... felt great after! Also a little milestone as i went out by myself with him today, just to a friends house for coffee but still proud of myself and then later DH took him for a walk and i went and got a facial.... feel much better for it too. then we did a quick whip around with the pram in the supermarket... so all in all we made great progress in the new parents game I say!!!
Jazmum I hear you on the dummy... we also bought one the other day before the circumcision (jic) and it is here in case i need it, i dont want to use it but it is here if i NEED to... i guess it isnt a bad security item (though both my mum and MIL are so dead against them i had to hide it when they were here LOL) but I found it hard to decide to buy one too... how you deal with 3 though i dont know and i can imagine there will be a time you need it, and there should be no guilt attached to that.
my cracked nipple is so much better, they both feel the same now and i think the attachment is getting better... i am just trying to get over 1. how MASSIVE my bbs are and 2. how much they leak!!!
have a good night everyone - hope you get some sleep!
ETA MD we were posting at the same time - I am sooooo impressed you managed to get to a movie - wow!! glad OB appt went well and it is all healing..
-
Pregpan - Wow you have been a super mummy out and about today! Ditto on the leakage, I'm sticking to patterned shirts that won't show right now as the breast pads aren't keeping up! Good to hear the cracked nipple is getting better but you can't get complacent about it...mine's getting really sore again though no visible damage, I can't work out what Miss E is doing differently on that side.
-
Marydean, I am jealous of you seeing a movie - I haven't done that in so long. Im really pleased the wound is continuing to heal nicely for you.
Pregpan, I am also jealous of your facial too - another thing I haven't done in ages. Soon you will have the hang of this going out caper and you'll take it all in your stride.
Jaz, Master A has had a dummy (or 'beepee' as we call it here) since he was a few days old. Sometimes he will take it others he wont. I know the feeling though of the 'should I or shouldn't I'.
I got the kids all sorted quite well tonight surprisingly. The morning will be the test though. I went to town to pick the kids up and got a bit of shopping in and Master A took it quite well and slept most of the time. The car trip home was a bit iffy though - wasn't sure if I'd have to pull over to feed him (we are half hour from town remember) but we made it home just in time LOL. I am dissapointed at the poor selection of boys clothes though. I think I see a trip to Myer coming on LOL - they have great boys clothes.
I also got the kappochi pouch out too and he loves it thank god. I had him in it while I packed the groceries away. I am liking it more this time than last time too.
-
Sounds like you're going really well getting out there and things done, Sherie! I agree, mornings will be the real challenge - one step at a time and you will get there! How do you sterilise A's beepee (and how often)?
-
I have a big container with water and miltons in it for sterilising. I have to put his bottles in it anyway, so I just put his beepee in whenever he is sleeping or doesn't have it in and leave it for a while and then take it out and put the cover on it. I have another one in the nappy bag too so I don't have to use the same one all the time. I change the solution every 2nd day.
-
We;; DD has settled back into 3hr feeds, but at least she is getting a bit extra since she is being weighed again in the morning.\
We are having the dummy debate too!!
Managed to walk up to the local cafe today for lunch. DD started screaming the moment the food was put on the tavble - they have a sixth sense for that don't they?
Sherie - good luck with the morning run.
MD - well done on the movie.
Pregpan - wow for all your trips out and about!!
-
Morning Ladies,
Well its Thursday and the boys are off to Daycare. I think Olivia has the cold so I am going to take her to the Dr today just to get checked. As for Dummy well she had one from just a few days old. The boys were the same.
Hello to everyone and have a wonderful day
-
Hi ladies
Thanks Sherie for the Milton tip - I have Milton in the house ready for when I start expressing (not until after 6 weeks or I'll have to wear bathers and floaties for all the leaking!) - but early this am i cracked the dummy packet and boiled them as per instructions on back of packet. DD was beside herself trying to stuff her hands into her mouth whenever the boob came near her and after a half hour or so of fighting over it we both needed a break - five minutes later dummy was sterilised, DD was happy, mum was having a cup of tea - all good :). Round two when she wakes up again - soon by the squeaky noises coming thru the monitor!
Apart from all that it was an exceptionally good night as she got up around 11.00 (I was still awake), then 3.00ish and 6.00ish - much more do-able than every TWO hours!!! Realised sheepishly that I'd had a caffeinated beverage on the afternoon of the 2-hourly night  - ooops I'll be too scared to drink coffee at all for the next 18 months *sigh*.
Leanne - how often do the boys go to daycare? I'm keeping DD1 in two afternoons a week so we get extra nap time at home and so she gets that bit of extra social interaction (plus it keeps her place open there...hehe). She'll be going a few days over the school hols - on the days when the FDC lady's got really good outings planned - takes the pressure off us having to entertain 24/7!
Cally - uh huh re the food hitting the table! But it gets easier and soon you'll be able to eat your lunch and soothe the child at the same time without batting an eyelid...! Keep up all the outings, I'm sure it's making a difference to your frame of mind :) We're going to try to make it out to BigW soon - they have big boxes of Snugglers nappies on sale this week (unless it's ended already).
-
Good morning :D
Sheesh what a night! that'll teach me a lesson to let Alex sleep so long during the day, he kept us awake pretty much every 1.5hrs.. I'm pooped :P
Cally - good on you for going out for lunch, we are not as brave yet for the very reason you described. The only eay I can stop Allex crying is to stick a boob in his mouth..don't fancy doing that in a coffee shop with everyone watching. So how did you settle her?
MD - ahh beloved coffee... had to give it up too! Had to switch to very weak tea and I mean yellow weak.
Leemar - How can you tell if Olivia has a cold? Alex sneezes a lot and gets congested nose - is that a cold?
Hello everyone :)
-
Joasia - some sneezing & congestion in the early weeks is normal - but if they have a temp or you are worried for any other reason see the dr - most drs would rather you take them in & if nothings wrong then good. A lot of drs even bulk bill for a brand new baby (but it won't last for ever)!!
I BFed DD1 - without batting an eyelid - for 18 months here there and everywhere - but this time round I find I'm suddenly SHY again about doing it in public...WTF? I think it's because we're still at the awkward stage where she doesn't always attach first go so there's a lot more nipple exposure going on. Mind you, I figure if ppl don't like it, they can look away - and if they do like it - well good for them! LOL
Re the weak tea - I drink Madura premium tea - it has less caffeine than Liptons Bushells Dilmah etc - you can brew up a nice strong cup without worrying about the caffeine factor as much.
-
Hi everybody
Marydean - I tried Hannah with the dummy, and she made such a funny face, and kept spitting it out. She even held onto it and just played with it with her tongue for a while. (i think i was secretly happy that she didn't like it lol) I'm glad your ob appointment went well and your wound is healing nicely.
Pregpan - well done on getting out and about by yourself. I think once you take that first step it gets easier every time. Good news that your nipple is back to normal.
Sherie - well done on getting everything done. That half hour car trip must prove to be a challenge some days. Do you have to drive the children to school everyday? I love the picture of Alister in your ticker. what a little cutie pie!!
Joasia- Hannah has had a snuffly nose for a couple of weeks - no runny mucous or anything, but just sounds blocked. i bought some Fess nasal spray and a 'snot sucker' and it seems to have done the trick. (got all of those snotties out that couldn't be reached) When i'm feeding in public, i tuck a muslin wrap into my bra strap and drape it over my shoulder. It covers up all of my exposed bits, and is still light enough so that Hannah can be comfortable.
We had a good night last night. I fed Hannah at 7:30 and then i was in bed by 10:30. She didn't wake for a feed until 3:30am, which was wonderful (although i thought i'd woken up in Pamela Anderson's body- my breasts were so hard and sore)
my Dh is going to melbourne for the night, so it will be interesting to see how i juggle everything this evening. wish me luck!!!
-
Hello! Didn't have such a good night last night - not so much Alister, but me. I just had a shocking sleep so I felt rather ordinary this morning. He woke at 6am so I had plenty of time to get him fed and Lindsay ready for school. Dh came home from work sick again with this cold/flu bug again *sigh* so I'm really hoping that the kids don't get it or god forbid Alister.
Jaz, I don't drive him to school, just to the front gate and he gets the bus. Every wednesday though I pick both he and Erin up (preschool) as that's the day I go to town and do shopping etc. It can be hard sometimes, especially with a crying bub LOL.
Marydean, at least you know why she was so unsettled now LOL.
cally, I'm sure they have built in radar's too - it's either when food is served or when you're in the mood for love ;)
Joasia, Alister gets snuffly too, but he is otherwise well. It's hard to know sometimes though.
-
hi all
Noah has also had the snuffles... i havent seen any snot though so i guess it is a bit of congestion... it is hard not to worry as i notice every little thing... i guess that will get easier with time?
I agree Cally re the radar, i think noah hears the kettle, knows i am having a cuppa and wakes up LOL!
-
Joasia- I think I was over reacting I spoke to the Clinic Nurse and she told me its normal. I now feel normal as everyone elses baby has the same as Olivia.
Olivia has put on weight 2 weeks ago she was 4340grams now she is 4712 grams, she is 55cm long. I am so happy. I had a lovley day with my mum today so I am planing to do the house work in the morning then just relax in silence tomorrow. Ahhhhh
MD- The boys go to daycare Thursdays and Fridays ( only could afford 2 days as it would cost me $440.00 per week for a whole week for 2) and then will be going back to my mums on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. I have decided to only go back to work 4 days a week which will start in a couple more weeks.
-
DD also gets a bit sniffly. She put on 80g in 3 days so that is really good. Midwives are finally finished with me and have passed us on to the community heaslth nurse.
I had a dream that DH came and told me it was time for a feed last night so I got up and sat on the couch ready to go. 5mins latyer when he hadn't appeared I went looking for them. Could have had an extra bit of sleep. Very annoying!
Definitely have cracked nipples. Midwife was impressed with the size of them. Not good. Attachment is all good, so just have to give them time to heal. Might try some different po
-
Cally, bugger about the cracks in the nipples, I hope they heal quickly for you. That's great news about Katie's weight gain too. I had to laugh at you getting up and getting ready - I have really vivid dreams like that from time to time too and have to give myself a reality check LOL.
Leanne, Olivia is going great! I think it's a bad time of year for little bubs getting the sniffles - hayfever season is in full swing and I just think that their little sinus's can't handle it all kwim?
Master A is sleeping at present. He had his last feed about 1hr earlier than normal, so I'm hoping tht I can get the other three bathed and fed before he needs another feed - keep your fingers crossed for me LOL.
-
hey all just thought id pop in had a great night shes waking every 3 - 4 hrs for a feed n i managed to getaround 7hrs sleep.. shes very settled now we are hme n ive got the midwife coming today to check her out hope everyone is well must post a pic later :)
-
Congratulations noni! Good to finally see you in here!
I think things are settling down into some sort of routine for us now. DH is back at work and Will seems to be in a vague sort of pattern. We had a few terrible nights where he wouldn't go to bed and if he did it was only for an hour or so. He wanted to feed constantly, which left us both tired and crying. Then he went back to being a happy little boy again. From the pattern of unsettled nights, it looks like chocolate is a no-no for me now. A bit sad, but I guess I prefer happy baby and sleep to chocolate.
Yesterday he wouldn't drink from leftie all day, it was so full and sore I had to express some. Thankfully by last night he was drinking from both sides again.
He is now sleeping 3-4 hours at a time, but will spend around 4-5 hours during the day awake in one go. Is that a long time for a newborn? He doesn't cry, just likes to sit in his bouncy or pram and watch stuff.
Hope everyone got some good sleep last night
-
hi everybody :)
noni - great to see you here. Aren't you a lucky one getting so much sleep!!! Sounds like you've got everything under control.
arte- so happy that William has settled again for you. I hear you on the choccie. My dh received a block of fruit and nut from his mum and it is sitting in the cupboard staring at me. It's just not worth it though. the midwife at clinic told me to start introducing it again at about 4 months. She did say though that a square of chocolate should be ok. How the heck am i meant to stop at one little square!!!lol.
J and Z would be so happy if Hannah stayed awake for 4 hours during the day. She starts to get antzy after about half an hour of awake time.
We had another good nights sleep. Fed at 7:30 with a top up at about 9:30. Then we went to bed and she woke again at 2:30am. Back to bed at 3:30 and awake again at 7. What a good little girl she is being for her mummy!!!
-
put a pic in my members gallery :)
-
noni - she's adorable!!
I was just having a shower and when i got out milk was shooting out everywhere (feed time!!) Jess jokingly said she'd have some. I told her to get a cup and i caught a little bit in it. We all had a taste!!! The girls decided that Hannah could have it all to herself lol. I was expecting it to be sweeter, didn't really do it for me though- so will be sticking with the Physical.lol.
