Hi Emmajt, she has only been on the meds since tues. I started rice cereal then too.
It took a couple of weeks to see a really big difference in mood and sleep patterns for the bub I know atm, which doesn't help you right now :(
How is she doing with the rice cereal?
I guess that's something to look forward to. I decided today I'm not breastfeeding anymore because I'm exhausted from lack of sleep. I also didn't stop bleeding until Emily was 10 weeks old and still bleed for 2-4 days every 10 days. To be honest I am finding it really tough at the moment but we will get through it.
We also found out on thurs that FIL has terminal cancer and there is nothing more they can do. There my rant / vent is over, feel better now lol.
Em is going ok with the rice cereal, just 1.5 tsp at the moment twice a day.
Hugs all round sounds like some of us are having a bad trot. And I'm going to add to that list - bad case of tonsillitis and had high thyroid levels come back from blood tests (I have no idea what I'm supposed to do next about that except to get retested in 3-4 weeks; started another thread about it).
On a more positive note Wade's worked out how to roll from front to back in the past couple of days
Well done Wade. Clever boy :) Lily's big thing at the moment is to lift her legs and bottom up when I'm changing her nappy, and now she's bringing her head and shoulders up too. Then kick like a crazy person when I'm trying to do her nappy up. All with a massive grin on her face.
Crowe, I'm sorry to hear about your FIL. You've given Em a great start with the BF'ing and it sounds like it is time now for you to take care of yourself.
Leckert, you poor thing. Hope you are feeling better soon and get some answers.
Thanks for the kind words. Em slept from 9pm to 5 am this morning so things are looking up today. I'm very engorged though, Atleast I can take nurofen now.
What clever little bubba's you have, rolling etc. Em wants to sit up or stand up all the time!
Sorry to hear about your tonsils Leckert, hope it clears quickly. I don't know anything about thyroid sorry.
Yay for sleep :D
Hi ladies! Haven't been on here for a while and saw lots of posts and got excited :) Well Ellie is sick at the moment and last night was terrible, she had such a stuffy nose that she woke every 30 mins from 11:30pm and has hardly slept all day and I am absolutely buggered. Fingers crossed tonight is a bit better. It's my birthday tomorrow so hoping I have enough energy to celebrate somehow.
Crowe - So sorry to hear about your FIL, such a terrible thing :( and poor little Emily with her reflux, I hope she is still sleeping ok after those few bad nights you had.
emmjayt - Lily sounds very cute and cheeky with her nappy changing time. Ellie loves her change table :) seems like everytime I put her on there she gets this instant smile on her face.
leckert - Good boy Wade with your rolling over from tummy to back, Ellie is nearly there, just rolling from tummy to side :) Hope you are feeling better!
Happy birthday Becky. I hope Ellie is better and you both got some sleep last night.
I know exactly what you mean about the change table - whenever Lily is stroppy I can put her down there and we have smiles within a couple of minutes.
Lily has completed wrapping DH around her little finger. I was burping her last night when he came and sat with us for a chat. I jokingly asked her "where's Daddy?" and she turned to him and gave him a massive grin. She did it about 4 times so he is thrilled. Asked "where's Mummy?" and got nothing :(
Happy birthday Becky, hope your enjoying your day and getting some rest.
Emmajayt sounds like your Lily is a clever little monkey.
Thanks girls for the birthday wishes. We ended up going out for a lovely lunch even though Ellie was sick but she was a good girl for me thank god. She slept pretty well last night but still woke a few times with a blocked nose even though I have the vaporiser on in her room and chest rub etc etc. Hopefully she has an even better night again tonight.
Emmjayt I bet your husband thinks he's the ducks nuts now with Lily knowing who her daddy is. Sooo cute but Lily you have to do it for mummy too you little monkey :)
Hope your all well :)
Becky, I'm so glad you had a lovely lunch for your birthday. I hope Ellie is better now.
DH and I have both had some bug - luckily he's been home the last couple of days and we can tag team Lily. She's stayed nice and healthy and full of smiles. Phew - I'm not ready to deal with her really sick yet. We've got her 4 month check up on Friday - will BR interesting to see how she is going.
Emmajayt - that's not goofy guys were unwell but convenient you could help each other out. Hope your all better now.
Becky - how's Ellie hope she's on the mend too.
Leckert - how's those tonsils and did you find out what the thyroid issue was?
Emily is on reflux meds three times a day and hates them! She won't open her mouth to anything anymore thinking its meds so even the bottle is a fight until she realizes. I think it's helping though. She still gets up once or twice a night, thankfully it doesn't last forever and they are all grown up before we know it. My DD1 Sarah will be 4 on Sept 1st gee whiz time goes fast.
Hope your all going ok!
Crowe - poor Emily with her reflux. Hopefully she will get used to her meds! How is she going with it now and sleep?
Emmjayt - how is Lily? I hope she didn't get sick and your all well now :)
Leckert - how you feeling? How is Wade?
Well Ellie is just getting better now and still has a little cough. She had been waking a couple of times a night since being sick at around 1:30am and 3:30am so hopefully when she is completely better she gets out of that routine, it's been hard as she was sleeping so well before. On a good note though she has been rolling properly from tummy to back and give herself a fright if she does it too fast very cute :) she gets her second lot of needles tomorrow :( definately not looking forward to that. Has anyone started their bubs on rice cereal yet? Can't remember at how many months I started Ava.
Feeling generally better here (although just had migraine :wall: probably stess related as payroll stuffed my pay up and couldn't manage to solve it from Thursday last week when I told them and rang again on Friday) still waiting to check thyroid stuff in a couple of weeks.
Wade's got a bit of a cough and gunky eyes and soooo wants to move but can't yet. Hasn't rolled much since he went front to back the other week.
Foodwise we'll be waiting til 6 months and we'll be doing baby led solids again (there's a thread about it in bb somewhere - too hard to link when on phone) so no rice cereal here
We started rice cereal on Friday. Lily loved loved loved it. I've tasted Farex so I'm struggling to understand why. My MCHN wants me to try her on a chicken broth with vegies in the next week "she's been getting flavour from your BM so don't give her single flavour boring things" I was hesitant until I saw her with the Farex, apple and mango - she's like a baby bird opening her mouth up ready for the spoon and yelling if I take too long to get more in
Back later for proper persies - feeding Lily and she keeps trying to get my phone
Emma, well done on still breastfeeding. It sounds like things are going very well. It is very exciting when our little ones start new things, isn't it? I remember hanging out to start solids with DS1 although I have to admit after all the mess I later wondered why I was so keen :)
I wonder, is your MCHN on the older side? She is quite right that Farex is not a good food to give babies but she doesn't seem to be aware of the medical research that says solids before 4 months can be very harmful. Some are quite old school and remember when the guidelines were 8 weeks, 12 weeks etc. Now the guideline says to give solids at around 6 months, but not before 4 months. Is there a reason why you've decided to start so early? There are a few reasons why the guidelines changed to 6 month - one is that many babies' digestive systems are not ready for solids until then and damage can be done by starting earlier, and another is that food replaces breastmilk which is still very much needed up to 6 months for growth and brain development (breast milk is the only "food" needed for the first 6 months and is the very best thing for growth and brain development as it's purpose made).
Farex tends to be the first food that many mums choose to use but unfortunately it has no nutritional value. If you google baby led solids or look up some threads on here, you'll find that it is becoming more common to give babies family foods from the beginning (eg meat and veggies). There are lots of benefits to this - one is that meat is the best source of iron and zinc for your baby (don't believe the added iron label on baby foods, your baby can't absorb the iron so it's going in one end and out the other) and iron and zinc are vital for brain development and iron is the first nutrient needed from a source other than breastmilk at some time in the second 6 months of the baby's life. So your MCHN is spot on in that sense, although I'm not so sure about a broth. At your little one's age though, she is too young for finger foods but by the time she is ready for solids she can have them.
If you would like some literature to show your MCHN about why solids under 4 months is not good, you can do some googling and let me know if you want some references.
ETA I just remember that the thread that is linked to in my sig is a pretty good starting point for making the decision about when to start solids.
Hi guys, I started Emily on veg and rice cereal this week as advised by my paed. She has silent reflux and stated it would help her with that. She is only having a couple of tablespoons but seems to like it.
Hi ladies, my name is kate I have a 3yo son Jett 17/4/09 and a 4mo son Brax born 18/4/12 I forgot to keep up with my belly buddies group on here but I see some of.you are in here now :) hoping everyone is doing well.
Hi Kate - welcome
Hi Kate; was wondering how everything went - we had a quiet belly group so not hard to lose track of what was happening ;)
Hi Girls! Glad to hear our babies are loving some food. I started Ellie on some rice cereal today and she loved it.
Welcome jett's_mum! My 4 month old is Ellie and I also have a 3 year old Ava. How is everything going? How is Brax doing? Is Jett enjoying being a big brother?
Hi guys, I have now tried Emily on some banana and she loves it, she doesn't like it off the spoon but loves to suck on it then munch it up. She is getting a little constipated though so will get some prune juice today to add to boiled water cause she doesn't like water on its own. How are you all going? Beautiful 25 degrees here today, just loving this weather.
So cute Crowe that Emily chews on bananas :) I am going to try Ellie on something else next week! We had an absolutely gorgeous day here in Brisbane aswell. Absolutely loved it, I took the girls to the park and had a lovely picnic, sooo nice to get out sometimes especially since the weather has been so cold and windy lately.
Hi guys, hope your all well. I'm glad to say that Sarah DD1 has finally settled down since Emily DD2 arriving (only took 5 months). Em is going ok with the food, still only having a couple of tablespoons a day. I have sorted out her eczema I think with some prescription cream and Moo Goo which is awesome. We have had a scare last fortnight with Em having a raised fontanelle, Hosp had no idea and did an ultrasound. They were talking hydrocephalus (fluid on the brain) and meningitis but because she was not unwell and u/s was ok they sent us home. We had a nervous wait to see paed three days later. Paed called it a fullness and stated it was still in the normal range (phew), he is going to monitor it though.
Other than this we have been keeping busy. Take care all
Hi everyone! It's been very quite on here lately, I think you all must be as busy as I am. Ellie is doing well. She is loving her rice cereal and going to try her on pumpkin tonight. She has been rolling from tummy to back for a while but has finally mastered back to tummy yay! Just curious, what is your bubs daily sleep routine? I have had a cat napper during the day but she has started having a 2 hour sleep in the morning at around 9am but then cat naps for the rest of the day. I do try and put her down after lunch as she seems very tired but will wake after 15mins and then again around 4ish. Also how are you putting them down to sleep? Awake or asleep from feeding or rocking etc? :( She is still sleeping ok during the night goes down at 8ish and sleeps til about 6am and sometimes may wake once during night. Hope your all well!
OMG Crowe that would have been very scary for you all but so glad that everything is ok. Happy that Sarah has settled down for you! Ava is getting better aswell but seems to be naughtier than normal whether it is still a bit of jealousy or just her age.........or just being her lol.
Hi again all :) Just updating lol. Well Ellie loves her pumpkin, potatoes and carrot puree at night now which is great, she is up all all fours rocking back and forth getting ready to start crawling and for a week now she has been saying mum :) OMG has time flown or what. Haven't heard from anyone in a while so i hope your all well! Talk soon x
We tried banana for first food last night - ds2 had fun chasing it around the high chair's table; eventually got it up to his mouth and some in; had a bit of a gag afterwards but not too bad. Next time we do banana I'll leave a strip of skin on for handling purposes as it got a bit slippery for ds. We do baby led solids (bls) as I don't have the patience for puréed foods. We did bls with ds1 too and he's a good eater and I didn't get too much food mess on the floor so we're going that route again.
We're coming off a couple bad colds for ds2 (and 2 bouts of tonsillitis for me) where he'd have to sleep on his tummy to drain the snot so he didn't chuck phlegm so much or cough. Still likes sleeping on his tummy now. He's also rolling over fairly quickly if you put him down the wrong way for how he wants to be  likes to try sitting up too and loves his rocker car that he can sit up and play with the activity stuff on the top. He's also getting frustrated that he can't move yet - hadn't worked out he needs to lift tummy to crawl
Hi guys, we are going well. Emily has just started sleeping at night woo hoo. It has only taken 6 months! She is eating veges, fruit, vegemite on bread and yoghurt and loving it. She is sitting up really well now, almost on her own. She doesn't do tummy time well due to reflux so I think crawling will be a way off yet, she is whizzing around in her walker though.
Wow Becky I can't believe Ellie is talking already, Em doesn't gabble much and Ellie almost crawling, that's great.
Sorry to hear of your sickness Leckert, hopefully the warmer weather will help you guys.
Hope your all getting some rest!
Hello all, it's been ages since anyone has commented here so I'm hoping your all going great and enjoying your bubba's. Emily has finally started having two solid (1.5-2 hr) sleeps per day yahoo. She is sleeping from 7pm to 5:30-6am and wakes only usually once for the dummy in this time. I'm super pleased she is settling. Her reflux has settled too, I am slowly reducing her meds and I think I have her eczema sorted too. Gee these little ones take some getting to know hey!
Anyway better get back to finger painting with Sarah, hope your all well. Take care Renate
I find it too hard to search for threads on my phone which is how I'm accessing bb most often lately :(
Wade's worked out how to sit up by himself and can sort of move around - rolls and wiggles but hasn't worked out crawling forward yet. He's popped his first tooth through as well
Hi! How are you all? Haven't been on here for a while! Ellie is doing well! She is crawling around everywhere now and is getting her second tooth at the moment so alot of wakes during the night but settles ok which is good so I can't wait to get back to her only waking once during the night.
Crowe - I am so glad Emily is sleeping well for you, I still have Ellie only having 2 short sleeps a day :( oh well hopefully she will improve. Happy to also hear about her reflux, you must be over the moon, would have been so hard for you.
Leckert - Yay Wade for sitting up clever boy, crawling won't be far away! How was he with his first tooth coming through? I found Ellie not too bad with her first tooth but her second which has just come through has been worse which is strange.
Question for all - How many bottles or feeds a day do you give bubs? I give Ellie a bottle in morning about 7am then breakfast at 8am then bottle at 11am then lunch at 12noon then bottle at 3pm then dinner at 5pm then bottle at 7pm so all together 4 bottles and breastfeed if she wakes at night (nearly weaned yay!).
Anyway hope your all doing well. Talk soon :)
Hellooooooo???????? LOL Hope your all doing ok! Just wanted to say to you all have a very Merry Christmas and wish you nothing but the best for 2013! :)
Going well here - bit mad this time of year - end of school year for me (teacher librarian) and usual Christmas madness.
Wade's crawling all over the place; can barely keep up with him at times and is also pulling himself up to standing already.
Hi, sorry I haven't responded sooner. Emily is going pretty good. Not crawling yet but wriggling around very frustrated. She is having three bottles a day, three meals and two snacks. She had a reaction to egg the other day. I have just got home from allergy specialist today and it seems she is allergic to eggs and peanuts!!! Oh man such a lot to get my head around. Hope your all well- merry Xmas'
