Are you moms who are getting 6hrs at night breastfeeding as well?? If so..Im super jealous!! Violet has only gone to 5 hours twice! Other than that she still nurses every 3 to 3 1/2 hours :( I even try to nurse her more often during the day..but its not working. My baby likes to eat apparently lol
Welcome everyone else!!
We have Violets ultrasound for her hips coming up on the 6th and Im nervous. Its an ultrasound due to her being breech and they want to make sure she doesnt have hip dysplasia :( She (to me) doesnt show any signs ..so who knows
Phe- How are you recovering from your section? Hope your feeling better!

Woo! I just scraped into this group! H as you know was five days late, born on the 15th (though she began her grand journey at the beginning of the 14th).
She is my first child and I'm besotted. I have had attachment issues with breastfeeding though- I can't seem to get her to latch properly on my right nipple which is causing me a bit of pain. Plus frustration as I so want to love BF but at the moment I only feel the love with the left boob.
-
ShanD how is your infection now?
Re short feeding times H is the same- often she only feeds for 5 mins and only off one breast. But apparently this is fine as long as they are feeding frequently and well? I emailed the ABA about it and they said sometimes its because mother has a quick let down or because the baby is a very efficient sucker. I do notice H sucks loudly and constantly for those five mins so I think she does feed well. Plus she's pretty settled in between feeds and has lots of nappy changes.
She's been feeding between about 2.5 and 3.5 hourly, in the first few days she needed to be woken for almost every feed which was hard as I also have the problem of trying to correctly latch a screaming baby who hates being woken up! But last night she woke for all of her feeds herself! A little earlier than I wanted for each one but still I was happy she is becoming alert enough to know when she is hungry. I put her down around 7:30pm and set my alarm for 11pm, 3am, 7am and she woke by herself around 10:30pm, 2:15am and 6:15 am.
Did anyone else get major day three blues? I always thought it was a bit of a myth but I got intense day two and three blues. I'm normally super calm and positive but i felt so inadequate, out of control and incompetent for those few days. It doesn't help that day three is baby weigh in day- DD had lost 11% of her birthweight and because that's out of the 10% range the doctor and MWs made me freak out about it- the one MW who weighed her and told us (she actually miscalculated the first weigh in so told us baby was fine but then hubby said she had the numbers wrong lol) said I had to not only express milk to top up but to formula top up. We refused the formula as I felt she had no confidence I could sustain my baby with my own milk. Plus my milk hadn't even come in yet! So I was distraught and felt under extreme pressure to perform and prove I was a competent mother by feeding and expressing to a strict routine and recording everything on paper for all to see and judge. It really knocked my confidence especially as I had blisters on both nipples and attachment problems with my right breast in particular- she cannot seem to latch into the right nipple properly and keeps moving her mouth so it clamps over the nipple not the aerola. Yet she attaches nicely to the left one most of the time. Other than that i feel I'm doing well and she seems happy except for when she is hungry and can't attach properly which is when she gets all screamy and agitated.

Hi everyone sorry I'm on my phone so will try and remember everything.
TM yes I'm breast feeding Lily and we have had 2 consecutive nights of 5-5.5 hours and numerous others. Yest she did feed every 2-3 hours tho but happy for that during the day for the night sleep.
There was something else I wanted to reply to but will have to go back and re read....
Oh and I had my last hospital call thurs night and the nurse thinks my clots were me passing some membranes and that I hadn't passed them all at te start. Which is possible as they were concerned about my uterus contracting down.
Oh and TM my dd1 was breach and had the ultrasound and she's fine

LL - we are having simulate attachment issues with on side too, if Cooper doesn't feed well they told me to express for 10mins after a feed as is will get the milk flowing more which could be the reason for the attachment issue. Also, infection appears to have gone and off antibiotics. I still have bleeding but it's just the normal six week thing. I can't wait for it to stop as I am not at all a pad wearer lol!
Carly - sounds like your getting into a nice routine, did Cameron just do that himself or have you done anything different as we are still on 3-4 hourly.
TM - we are in the same boat as you with feeds, little milk machines!
AFM - my milk had basically dried up two nights ago, worst night ever. Cooper was crying so much and I felt bad cos I had nothing... Long story short, went back to the hospital and saw one of the midwives who gave us some solutions and made me feel so much better knowing I was doing everything right. Milk supply often slows down around 3-4 weeks she told us and gave us tips and pointers to help. Had issues with my mum staying here too which she has now gone home. I think she had trouble letting us do things our way. Hopefully she understands and gets over it soon as I'm so tired to worry about anyone but us at the moment.
It's 38 in Melbourne today so it's a day at home in the aircon!
Hope everything is going well with you all, and if it's not, tomorrow has to be better xoxo

LL- I had horrid baby blues on about day 5 :( On a good note..it went away by day 7 :)
-
Yes I was blown away by how our of control and incompetent I felt... I thought everyone was judging my mothering capabilities. But much happier now I'm home again.
-
Mine were because I felt I was neglecting my other two and was so worried about them as I was so focused on Lil.
Shan I hope youve sorted the milk out now it's so good you could see someone and talk to them about it.
Lil has her 2 week check up tomorrow at the health nurse can't wait to see how much she weighs and has grown :-)

Ladies I don't think you will get much from me for a while. Little Emily is trying her hardest to make life difficult for us. I am beyond exhausted, crying every night because I'm not getting any sleep. Can't really go into detail cause I'll be here forever and I just don't have time to do anything but focus on her or sleep atm. DH is being wonderful and doing as much as he can to help, but when the issues are with feeding and settling, there's not much he can do without boobs :( yes, we are expressing.

Phe I know exactly how you feel... I've had attachment issues and now wind/burping issues and it has been getting me down too, mainly at night when I'm more tired. I've found it really helpful to post about it in the baby and toddler thread to get lots of support and take it or leave it advice. X

*The_Mrs.* - My Little E usually goes down at 8(ish) wakes up for a feed/burp/bum change at 12-1 sleep until 4-5 another feed/burp/bum change then sleep until 8-9. So not bad at all. Would be better if my other 2 would go to sleep at a decent hour and stay asleep :shakehead:
Ladylove - i didn't get 3 day blues with DD2. (with DD1 i was depressed anyway so didn't really notice a difference) but this time 'round i was a mess on days 3&4 balling my eyes out constantly, feeling useless etc. it passed pretty quickly though thank goodness.
ShanD - Glad your infection cleared up. Hope you have your milk supply sorted now that would have been a stressful night for you all!
Sorry to hear you and your mum didn't agree on some things, it's bound to happen sometimes... I don't get along with my mother at the best of times and she has babies similar ages to mine (my youngest sister was born 2007 my DD1 is 2008 and my youngest brother was 2009 and DD2 2010) so she tried to tell me i was wrong ALL the time. I'm sure your mum was a little different and coming from a good place. With my mum it's "you're an idiot what would you know i have 9!"
phebee - i'm so sorry you're having a hard time at the moment , just focus on you and your little family. Hope you can catch up on some sleep
Sorry i've been slack already ladies. 3 babies is a lot more time consuming than 2. Especially when 2 of them are sick...
My Little E has had the sniffles for close to a week now thanks to people visiting while unwell and then 2 days ago my sisters decided it'd be good to bring her DD with gastro over :wall: so now DD2 has gastro was up all night with her and now have a mountain of washing. Wish people would use common sense sometimes and stay home with their illnesses!
Hope everyone's doing well

I don't know how you do it with three Blixie!!! I can barely remember to eat lunch with one!
So little one is finally latching correctly onto my right nipple (fingers crossed it is not a temporary thing) but I think we have a new problem - she seems really windy and gassy and has started coughing/sneezing part way through a feed. I think maybe my milk comes out too fast or that she drinks too hungrily? It just makes her irritable about 20 minutes after a feed, like she is very uncomfortable. I am also struggling to get her to burp.
-
Blixie I know what you mean about 3 and our eldest started school last week and back to dancing etc has been crazy. And thurs I started doing a bit of work again. And I'm working tomorrow I'm lucky I can take her to work with me is a family business and Monday's I have pays to do :-(

I agree LL. I have enormous admiration for anyone with a toddler AND baby. Emily may be very cute but at the rate she's going, she'll be very lucky to have a sibling!
Sent from my iPod touch - sorry for any mistakes!
-
Mummzy- I had the same issue with my baby blues..mine were also worrying about how I would take care of my 2yo since I had to give so much attention to Violet. :(

Does anyone have some fail safe tips for burping? DD. gets a bit of wind as she is a fast and hungry feeder but it's super hard getting a burp up? She gets a bit uncomfortable and irritable after some feeds and her breathing gets a bit gurgly and wheezy, plus a bit blue in the upper lip which a friend said is a sign of wind?
