Quick question, for those who have applied for baby bonus, has anyone started getting theirs yet??

*The_Mrs.* - Good luck with Violet's u/s
Ladylove - thank you! That info makes me feel better
beansbeans! your girls sound like real sweeties. But i bet it can be frustrating for you!
as for baby bonus yep, got my first payment on the 24th a week after we put the paperwork in :)
I just completed the final form for parental leave so I assume it will come in a couple of weeks. The hospy gave me the form along with the signed proof of birth as I'd pre-applied online before when I was pregnant.
mmm, we've been waiting for it for a few weeks now. My short term memory is gone atm but I know we put it in a while ago, same with birth certificate and havent got that either yet :(
Wow! I actually have time to get on here... DD is sleeping and DH is NOT wanting to use the computer! :O So where to start? The last 2.5 weeks have been a whirlwind! I guess now I have time to post my birth story.... finally! I am now a proud and exhausted Mummy to Emily Kathryn.
----------
It all began when we were admitted for induction at King Edward Memorial Hospital at 4:30pm on Friday 17th February. DragonTurtle went in at the same time to be induced. She was in Bed 3 and I was in Bed 6 :) We spent a lot of the time texting each other back and forth about our progress, updating on the FB group and she came to visit me in my room several times :)
The original plan for me was to have a Foley’s catheter to induce labour, but they discovered DD's head (not knowing what gender she was) was off to one side a bit and decided it would push it further away, so they changed it to gel, which they put in about 6pm ish. That evening DT and her DH came to my room and the 4 of us sat chatting for ages, it was quite a party! 12 hours after the gel (very early Saturday morning) the gel had not done anything to my cervix, but I was having contractions that I couldn’t feel. The monitor was picking them up but I wasn't! I was thinking 'Excellent!" lol. They didn't want to overstimulate my uterus and cervix, so they decided to wait a bit longer to see if I should have a second round of gel. Saturday morning around 10am they they decided, yes, another round. They said "I'll just go and get the doctor" and we waited and waited.... DT came by again and told me she'd been waiting and waiting for her waters to be broken. Apparently they had 4 other women in advanced labour and 2 emergencies and were flat out. Finally about 1pm they came in and the shift had changed and the people who were on told me I could have another gel. I told them I knew and I'd been waiting.
So that was given and another 12 hours later they checked again. Still hardly any progress and this was Saturday evening. Foley’s catheter was now an option though as her head had moved to the right position. This was inserted at some point during the night 10pm ish? (it’s all a blur now) and was due to be checked Sunday morning. Foley's gave me painful contractions right from the get-go so after they did it I had Panadeine Forte and a sleeping tablet. When the contractions continued to keep me awake they gave me a morphine injection in my bum and I finally slept... and very well! Sunday morning came and yes, by 10am there was 2cm dilation, enough to break my waters. But then they were flat out busy again. At 2pm, finally they were able to break my waters and put me on the oxytocin equivalent (forgotten its name) drip and true labour began. I lasted 6 hours relying only on a heat pack on my back and breathing techniques. Finally I opted for an epidural and that was put in at 8pm. Contractions were still making slow and erratic progress and by about 3:00am - 4:00am Monday morning (exact time?), I was still only 3cm dilated. That was when we decided to do a Caesarian section. I was prepped and taken to theatre and Emily emerged at exactly 5am on the dot, 20th February 2012 :) 3750g/8lbs 4oz, HC 34cm, length 51cm. A beautiful bundle of joy with a lovely head of hair. She is just gorgeous :)

Since then we have had a lot of ups and downs, more downs recently as she is a very difficult baby to feed. She is a very slow eater, inefficient sucker and sleeps on the job. The last 3 nights she has refused to settle after the evening feed and I've been absolutely at the end of my rope. I finally managed to get about 5 hours sleep (broken up) this morning but it seems like a LONG time since the last one. I've been crying every day except one. That was about 5 days ago and I even cried on that day out of gratefulness/happiness that I have her. But lately it's been frustration/desperation/I'm a bad mother etc.. I'm really hoping things turn around soon. We're seeing a lactation consultant who found she has oral thrush and has given us a cream and a gel for treatment. Really really hoping this works to clear her mouth and she can feed better and sleep better from it! So it's just taking each day as it comes. DH has been wonderful for the most part. He gets grumpy on little sleep and was a bit difficult last week, but this week the roles are reversed and he's been the one trying to calm me down and doing everything for us, lol. Hubby of the year!
Oh Phe it's hard isn't it. I really feel for you - I've been super emotional too and a friend reminded me that it's not JUST the intensity of first time parenthood and lack of sleep but our hormones are still out of wack. For some reason this made me feel better about my emotional state!
Yeah I figured that was part of it. This is the 4th night in a row that Emily is refusing to settle after her evening feed. Prior to that it was every 3rd evening. Before that not a problem. It can last until anywhere from 12am - 3.30am. But she sleeps really well in the daytime mostly. She's turned nocturnal :(

Oh gosh you poor thing. Honor gets pretty unsettled but it's mostly in the day or evening.
Hey everyone..Violet has been diagnosed with reflux :(
The Dr. put her on a med for it and Im not happy about it..he said if it doesnt help with 4 days we can take her off and maybe its somthing else. Thats what I am hoping for
Bugger TM. What made you or the Dr suspect reflux?
Glad to hear I'm not the only useless feeling one (even though my sensible brain knows that neither I nor any of you are useless, my sleep deprived brain says otherwise). Holly's been quite unsettled for a few days too. Glad DH is here. Getting a bit worried how I'll go when he goes back out bush.
What meds is she on TM? Did they let you know all the other non med stuff you can do to help her? How was her u/s?
Hope the thrush treatment helps Phe. That sucks. I had that at the start with DD1 (lol feels odd to write that after 6 years) and getting on top of it really helped.
I think a C section can cause more mucous in baby's tummy/throat/mouth to remain too which can make feeding harder. A midwife told me this as H had mucous even though she was born vaginally.
she is happy unless she is laying down and spits up everytime she lays down. When she nurses she arches her back and unlatches and screams (at night only) but to be honest..we have been on the medicine for a day and I havent noticed any changes so if it doesnt get better then Im taking her off and doing my own natural stuff and assuming its normal? I HATE the idea of a newbonr on medicine...
TM - how's little Violet going?
Phe - how's the thrush? Clearing up?
Cooper is back to 2-3 hourly feeds which is mighty draining... He is also very unsettled after his last nightly feed, we can be up for hours, drifts and then back to fully awake or crying cos he is so tired. I think I got 5 hrs of unbroken sleep between all of his feeds.
Hi girls, have been reading along but haven't had a chance to post properly, sorry! TM, have you tries putting towels or something under her bedding to slightly elevate her head? That apparently helps a bit. Not sure what else can b done, goodluck!
Hi all, I've been like Hopeful, reading all the posts but not having a chance to reply! It's been great having this forum and the Facebook group to keep in touch with everyone - I know it has helped me a heap to be able to post concerns/questions/frustrations and have a lot of advice come back! I think it's good for us to see we're all going through similar things as well.
Cameron is going well. He has been a little unsettled the last couple of days but slept beautifully last night - a good 6 hour stint! Very pleased with that. It's been tricky getting him to nap properly during the day as well. We've been back to 'it's okay to sleep on mummy but I can't sleep in my bassinet/swing/pram'. With that said, he's been settled in his bassinet for the past 2 hours so obviously we're having a good day today. Although, I break days up into 2 parts really now, sometimes he has a great morning and not-so-great evening or vice versa. It isn't the same for the whole day very often! He is lovely though and we're enjoying him. I can't wait for him to start responding to toys and the like, it'll make it a lot easier to settle him during those screaming moments when nothing seems to soothe!
Take care everyone,
Carly
Carly D is the same. Catnaps during the day with a preference for body to body contact but she does settle well after feeds at night.
My mum gave me some great advice- you might already be doing it as it's pretty simple - but if you nurse bubba to sleep wait for 20-25 mins after he has fallen asleep before moving into the cot or bassinet. This is because it takes about 20 mins for a baby to move from light to deep sleep so they are less likely to wake up if moved or shortly after if in a deep sleep.
ShanD - Re the thrush... not really... it is clearing on her bottom cause I keep remembering the cream there, but I keep either forgetting to put the oral gel into her mouth or she's fallen asleep when I want to do it and I'm scared of waking her up. It's really annoying having a medication you have to put in at the end of a feed, especially when you're not if sure she's finished or not or if she falls asleep during it. Plus it all tends to stay in a big glob instead of spreading through her mouth, either that or she swallows it or tries to eat it straight away. Sigh. 2-3 hourly feeding would drive me crazy! I'm trying 'no longer than 4 hour sleeps during the day and demand feeding at night'. So far it hasn't worked since little Miss won't settle at night!
Carly - I'm the same. Love having you all there for the advice. I'm glad in a way that Emily was late cause then I can bounce ideas off you guys who are all a few weeks ahead :P Oh I am SO jealous of you having a settled baby at night and SIX HOURS sleep! I had 2.5 last night. I've caught up a little bit with a nap during the day, but it's not the same. I have the 'it's okay to sleep on mummy but I can't sleep in my bassinet/swing/pram' at night!! Just glad she doesn't scream when she's unsettled.
LL - I have been trying to follow the 20-25 minute advice, but it's so hard at night when all you want to do is put her down so you can go to bed. Or in my case, so you can then EXPRESS for 30 mins, so you can then go to bed. Emily always has 30 minutes over me :P
So as you can gather I'm having a rough time.... I have a nocturnal baby who sleeps really well during the day but won't settle at night unless she is ON me. I have to express all the time so she has top-ups available for when she's too lazy to do the boob properly. I'm not getting much sleep. I'm sick of everyone saying I'm doing everything right. I want to be doing something wrong so I know what it is so I can fix it, IYKWIM. I am worried this will still be going on in 3 weeks when DH has to go back to work. I am SO grateful he got 6 weeks off. I don't know how I'd be doing it without him. He has been wonderful.
On a brighter note, we got her birth certificate today! :D
I hate to admit it but the medicine is really working for Violet..she no longer acts like she is in pain while and after nursing..darn I guess she does have reflux
Hey girls just popping in to make sure everyone is well and coping with the huge adjustment to their lives.
TM .. how's violet? What medication have they put violet on for her reflux? Milly is on Omeprazole (losec) once daily ... I hate giving it to her but it definately helps. I hate reflux (its what kept miss a in hospital so long because it caused her heart rate to drop and oxygen saturation to drop also) have you tried propping violets bed up ? Keep her up after a feed too. Helps them digest it better ...
Phe which birth certificate did you get? I got the one with the bears on it :) was Sooo cute. Sorry your having a hard time too. Have you tried infacol because it could be wind pain if she won't settle at night. Since miss a has been on it, she's been tonnes more settled xx
Miss A has been home just over a week. It's been a quite trying but very rewarding time so far. It looks as if she's settling into a routine.
Anyways just sneaking in to check on you all... :) miss u guys xx

Hi, I would love to join this group. My son was born by c-section on the 9-2-12. I have 3 sons 18,and turning 5 and my baby. It will be wonderful to talk to somone who is going through the same things for some advice and a chat.
This is only a quick hello as my baby is just about to wake up for his bottle. But i just wanted to say hi and i cant wait to get to know you all better:hello:
Hi rai!
Lys hello to you too! I've been thinking about you. Hope all is good.
Hey ladies,
I hope you don't mind me sneaking in here with all my belly buddies! I was due on the 10-2-12, but madam decided to wait til the 19-2-12.
Macquenzie Finlay Ann was born via emergency c-section at 6:19am on the 19-2-12 at 7pound1oz (3.2kg) and 50cm.
I was induced at 8pm on the 17th, so it was a long time to wait for her.
Short version- she had the cord wrapped around her neck and had to come out as her heartrate dropped below 80 for 10min.
I havent had time to read all the way through the thread, but congrats all and I look forward to talking to you all.
We are exclusively BF, and I have just found out that Quenzie is dairy/soy intolerant, and is most likely gluten intolerant too. So I am now on a dairy free diet and will be completely gluten free in 2 weeks time also. Bit of a lifestyle change.
I am starting to recover from my sect now (3.5 weeks post partum)- but did WAY too much today and I am SO sore! and its really late- so bedtime I think.
Xx
Dragon hello! I love reading everyone's stories. How are you feeling now? Still a bit sore?
So does anyone else have this with their bub- H onor catnaps all day and won't really sleep for more than 30 minutes at a time. Usually she naps in my arms and won't go down in her cot or else she'll go in the cot but wake up 5-20 minutes later and cry. She settles well in the cot at night and sleeps in cycles of anywhere between 3 and 6 hours at night so this settling thing is a daytime issue. Any ideas? I don't mind nursing her for stretches but it feels like I can't do anything at the moment not even eat my lunch or go to the toilet!
LL - Ellis is exactly the same, but often I have to do things with/for Hayden so Ellis has to just cry sometimes, and sometimes its in the car... poor little man.
LL- Miss A is the same, but so were the other two, so I was prepared for it
Hi Dragon!!
LL yes yes and yes!!Holly is exactly the same. I was going to post the same thing. I have no idea either - you'd think I would after 2 non sleepers :wall: I've ordered a couple of different ergo cocoons to see if they help make any difference. Though I have discovered Miss H likes to sleep on her belly....not so great.
Hey Ladies!
Sorry I havent been on inawhile. Violet is doing amazing. We stopped the meds as they started not helping and suddenly she was completely fine which makes me believe it wasnt reflux.
Im getting angry in regards to birth control. I cant take any hormonal birth control as it makes me have horrid anxiety/irritability/ and migraines. I cant have any IUDS because of the shape of my uterus and condoms irritate me! Im getting ready to become abstinate lol
I think DD may have a touch of reflux actually- had a great day but then had a feed an hour ago and spilled up a lot so I burped her and offered the other side but she fussed and kept pulling off, whimpering, and trying to drink more then when she came off she spilled a little more milk and then threw a major tantrum abs was screaming and wriggling around. Does that sound like reflux or just some wind?
All my babies have done that at times. Darcy had reflux but she also did the full on back arching screaming like you're pulling out their toenails in pan. She never chucked. She had to be upright - always.
Holly seems to do it when she's really tired. She just can't get all the required actions together.
If you're worried though do you have a supportive MCHN to run it by?
Yes. I might do that- one of my mothers groups is facilitated by a community health nurse.
hey ladies!
How we all doing??
I had Miss A's 6 wk check up today, finally its only 2wks late :)
So she was born 3.4kgs, now shes 5.05kgs. born 53cms, now shes 58cms. She definately growing up..
She had her vax too, and shes reacted to them, lucky me. :( Hopefully tonight will go ok.
Hi Beans! You reminded me, I need to make DD's appointment too. What age are the immunizations? 8 weeks?
yeah sometimes between 6 and 8 weeks. It used to be 8wks, but now most drs do it at their 6wk check so you dont have to come back. :)
Ok great. PS DD is smiling heaps now! She had a few real (not wind) smiles at about 4 weeks but at 5 weeks she started giving her mama ecstatic smiles all the time. What a joy they are!
Hey Ladies!
At Violets 2 month appt. she weighed 10.12 lbs and was 23 inches tall. She is a growing girl and looks more like her mommy everyday ;)
That's wonderful TM :)
Sorry I have been so absent lately..It has definitely been something with two babies! It is such an adjustment..but i WISH you all well!! and cant believe it has been two months since we have had our babies!
I'm another who has been absent, sorry! i do get on the facebook group we had set up as belly buddies sometimes cos i find facebook easier to work on my phone.
*The_Mrs.* - hope you and your little family are doing well. Glad to hear all is well with Violet and she is no longer on reflux medication. Hope you figure something out for birth control. I don't know what to do either. We would use just condoms but that's how we ended up with DD1 and they get expensive haha everyone is saying DP should have a vasectomy but the thought of him doing something so permanent scares me.
beansbeans! - wow that's huge growths in both weight and length/height! Go Miss A! :cheer: hope she wasn't too bad after her vax
Ladylove - don't their little smiles just melt your heart! I love it and i finally got a first smile, Daddy got the other 2 and i cried both times haha so don't know if he got smiles and just didn't tell me this time lol
~Kim~ - DD1 was a belly sleeper and honestly would not settle on her back so we slept her on her belly of day time if she was near us and on her side with a sleep positioner at night.
rai - hi hope all is well :)
Hope those of you with non sleepers are finding ways to catch up on sleep. Miss E sleeps fine its DD1 & 2 that are the problems just lately. In the last 3 weeks they have started waiting up for daddy who doesn't get home from work until 10:30-12:30am depending on the night and by the time he gets home they are overtired and FERAL :wall: earliest i have been to bed in that time is 1:30am so over it! :shakehead:
Miss E had her checkup & needles today. She is now 4640g (which is so tiny to me! She still hasn't quite made it to DD2's birth weight! Missed it by 15g haha) and 56.5cm with a head circumference of 39.4 so still my tiny bubby :) the needles aren't agreeing with her she's vomiting and has a temperature of 37.7 :(
She is already becoming a real little daddy's girl so cute she just sits with him and looks at him for ages smiling and making cutesy noises. Makes me even sadder that he's going away in 4weeks...

Just a heads up that over the next couple of weeks we will be merging the belly/baby buddies groups. Instead of 2 groups for each month there will only be one. We hope you enjoy getting to know more members through your larger groups. If you have any questions, comments or concerns please feel free to contact a member of the moderating team.
