Babies born ~ January 1st-15th 2011 #1

Thank you girls!! That's exactly what i thought. It's amazing isn't it how people feel completely justified in giving parenting advice whether you ask or not. Just confuses poor me! I always thought the main rule was to never wake a sleeping baby!! I don't want a grumpy Katherine and to be honest, at the moment, until she is well again, I'm just happy for her to sleep- at all.

Katherine has started moving out of some 0000 stuff although I'm not quite willing to fully move her onto 000. I just use the UK stuff that she was bought for newborns as it is slightly bigger. I've noticed pumpkin patch 0000 stuff is a little bigger too, so she's wearing that as well. Gotta stretch this out as long as possible!

Hi all!!

Well today is glorious Wednesday, when my big kids are at day care! I have my littlest man to myself and while he's asleep I can do as I wish (well within the confines of the house anyway, lol!

Jen, I'm jealous- 8hrs total sleep?? My god I wasn't even getting that before Caelan was born! We are averaging about 5ish hours broken sleep on a good night, which to me is pretty good considering I went months on 3-4hrs when DS1 was born!

Tegam, 7weeks old, my goodness!! Time is just flying isn't it. It sucks a bit when you have a few children, in that time just passes and you barely notice it. Like for me today, I get to just enjoy Caelan on my own, marvel at his gloriousness and just be in love with him, without having to manage the other kids too, kwim? Number 5 hey?? I have been fantasising about #4 too, but it won't be happening, for many reasons, but the main one being DH is totally not going to do it!
Yay @ you DH being home for a few days soon! I can't imagine how you stay sane with him away so often. My DH is going away for a few days in a few weeks and I am petrified, lol! Gosh I was scared for him to go back to work yesterday! (Though we managed ok. I was on the verge of tears when he walked through the door though!)
And yay for losing some weight!! I am finally back to my pre pg weight, maybe a kg or so less. I really need to get my eating under control though, and I will be starting to do some meaningful exercise in a week or two as well. Caelan is 5wks Friday, so after my 6wk check I will start with some walking/swimming and wii-fit'ing! I so need to be 'me' again. I feel ilke for almost 4 yrs I have been another me kind of, being so over weight and unfit for so long.

glenny, I think Caelan might have reflux too, and from those symptoms you have listed, it just makes my suspicions more concrete. Plus he does huge vomits after every feed, and then more later and then more....I am just waiting for the pead to come to town (we live in a remote town and the paed comes once a month :( which is a few weeks away, maybe I should just go to the GP?..)
I think with Katherine's sleeping, I would let her sleep when she will. I am like Disgirl and have never really worried with a routine. I let my kids tell me when they're hungry or tired and act accordingly. It has always worked for me and they have always gotten themselves into good routines. She is still only tiny, and trying to figure out what to do with herself, especially if she's in pain and a bit sick. I never wake a sleeping baby if I can help it!! But my first two were such terrible sleepers, I took it when I could get it!

em, how cute the little girl sounds while you were bfing! My kids pat DS on the head too while I feed him. It annoys the crap outta me, but I want them to feel included a bit too, and I don't want to be constantly saying 'no...get away from the baby...don't touch him...gentle...'!! Though I feel like I am :rolleyes:

Dis, wow @ J being 5.5kg!!! What did he weigh when born? Caelan is about 4.7kg now, that's a 900g gain since birth. I was impressed with that, especially with all the vomitting he does, lol! He is growing out of some of his 000 too. Only because he's so long though. His suits fit him fine in the arms and body, but the crotch is tight, lol! He's looong and skinny. And he never fitted into 0000, well maybe for a week or so. Lucky I never really brought any! We seem to make big boys don't we!
We have the fights over who will hold DS2 too. And tantys if I tell the kids they can't hold him for whatever resaon! Lily adores Caelan, and is so motherly towards him, Liam has been pretty good too, he is very gentle and kisses C. It's just his behaviour which is going down hill. He's been really naughty and throwing screaming tanty's. It could just be terrible 2's, but I think it's a bit of both.

We are going ok. We had our first Daddy-free day yesterday, with DH going back to work. It was all going really well, I managed to do dinner, bath the baby, play with the big kids a bit, keep the house reasonalby tidy, make pasta for lunch...all until DH called to ask how we were going and from then on we had a terrible arvo, lol! DS1 was just a right royal pain, doing everything he could to annoy DD and just be naughty in general. I was on the verge of tears by the time DH got home after a 12 hr shift! Tonight should be interesting with DH being on a night shift. I will have to sleep with both DS1 and 2, somehow! I doubt I will be getting much sleep at all.
Ok gotta go and put my little man to bed. Hope you're all well!

DIS: growing out of 000 already :o WOW!!! Summahs still in a combination of 0000 and 000, BUT if its a jumpsuit with her feet covered she is nearly out of 000 they just arnt long enough, but are baggy! so i have to use ones with no feet in them!

AFU: we had summahs 2 month check up today....

she is going great guns....
at 9 weeks she weighs 4.89kg, is 56.5cm long and her head is 39cm....
so she has gained 1.69kg from birth and grown nearly 10cm in length! :o this is just wrong she needsto slow down!!

she is right on the 50th percentile for everything which the MCHN said was perfect, actually she told me summah is perfect in everyway, that was after she told me she was a spitting image of me, clearly her perfection is passed on from me! :rofl:

i was freaking out last night coz she has a flat spot on the left side of her head, but she gave me ideas on changing things up to encourage her to use the other side of her head so ill be doing that.

other than that we are cruising along nicely, sleeping through min 4 nights a week so im happy with that!

Glenny - let you baby sleep, sleep when she sleeps. One very crusty old midwife told my DH and i when DD1 was born..."sleep induces sleep" and OMG its true. the more she gets the better she will be for you, the more you encourage her to be awake and play = really just means she is getting over tired!

Phoebe has been getting really good at night she has had about 3=4 nights where she has slept thru. She also now loves having a bath no more screaming hehe.

em - lol at public baby spew! I lucked out with david - apparently my brother was a happy chucker, as well as his 2 kids, but david barely brings up a dribble, even after a really big feed

glenny - hope it works soon - its hard to be on a routine at the best of times, let alone when they're sick! It's good she's still getting some sleep - hopefully it will be in the night again soon

disgirl - hehe chunky Josh - I thought David was getting chunky at 5.6 kg, but Josh is gaining at a much faster rate - must be good mummy milk!

lilias - that 8 hours was a first, and lucky me I got 8 1/2 hrs last night - but I have to be in bed by 9pm to get that. We had our best night ever last night - asleep at 7:30pm, feeding from 1-1:45, then not again until 5:50 - back in bed after that until 7 - a very happy mummy today! I don't like my chances of getting lots of repeats of that, but I live in hope! Well done for holding down the fort without your DH being there - even if the arvo was a bit much, you've done a great job!

Well, I've decided to put David in the cot for his day sleeps now - he's just outgrown the little bed thing I was using on top of my bed for daytime sleeps - he hasn't been sleeping well in it for a week now, so it can't be any worse shifting him. Used some leftover curtain material to hang over a rail to block out the light a bit so it's a bit darker in there. It's nice that I can use my own room, bathroom etc while he's napping! He slept 25 mins of his morning nap then woke and has been whinging for a while, but there's some long gaps so I'm going to see if he goes back to sleep again . .

YEsterday I dropped him off at mum's in the arvo and went to the pool - heavenly! (It was 37 and humid yesterday) Felt good to swim some laps without a big bump! As I was leaving my SIL and niece and nephew arrived for their swimming lessons, so next week mum and I are going to meet them there so she can watch him while I swim, then I'll try taking him in for a bit :) Mum wanted to see my niece and nephew swimming anyway, cause they're getting so much more confident - at the beginning of summer they wouldn't even put their faces in and now they're swimming underwater a bit.

Glenny: Glad you found some answers with Katherine, it sucks when your perfect baby becomes a screaming mess! I agree with the others on the sleep thing, when SB has good daytime naps he sleeps really well overnight and seems much more interactive and happy when he's awake.

Arg, I wanna write more personals but Sammy is stirring so I know I have to go soon! We're doing really well, Ma has left so it's just our little family and it's really lovely :) SB is in more of a routine and he's getting more interactive and just oh so gorgeous and loveable. He is losing his hair so he's rocking a male pattern baldness look at the moment, interesting to see what hair colour he ends up with as at the moment he's gold/strawberry blonde in patches and brown in patches. Undecided boy :) Anybody have a baby totally change hair colour?

Jen, has David been vaccinated? I was going to take Josh up to the public pool with me last week for DS1's lesson, but we decided not to do that until he's been vaccinated, especially with the recent whooping cough outbreaks. Our local pool is indoors so it's a haven for nasty germs. I didn't even think about it, it was DH who thought it was a bad idea. And I didn't think he paid attention to that stuff... :)
I'm not sure what Josh's 'official' weight is, that was just on the Wii. I'm probably going to take him to the clinic next week so we'll find out then. He doesn't LOOK that chunky.

FO3, yay for the sleeping through!!!! Josh loves his baths too. He likes stretching out and kicking his legs. I need to give him more nappy free time I think, but he wees and poos EVERYWHERE everytime we do it!

Tegam, I WISH the $$$ would strtch, but we'd need a new car at the very least, and then school fees later (the public HS near us is pretty ordinary) and all the rest. Not to mention I'd probably have another big headed boy that I'd have to push out :lol: Three will be fine :) Besides, how would we wrangle four kids when we take them to Disneyland? :lol:

Kel, both of my boys mucked up in the weeks after Josh was born. Things have settled down now. DS2 is a little bit younger than Liam though and DS1 seemed to wait until he was three to hit the terrible twos :lol: It's a HUGE change for them, not just the new baby, but having DH home more than usual and everything else as well. Hope things improve for you. I'm lucky that DH is home around lunchtime most days so can help with lunch and DS2's nap. It's SO hard when he's not here though, I think he's more help then then at bedtime!

Glenny, how's Katherine going? Unfortunately I've given up on all but one or two things in 0000 now :( He's just too long and he's starting to chunk up a bit too, although it seems to have started in his cheeks and is slowly spreading down his body :lol: He still has skinny legs!

Us: After a shocking colic attack yesterday afternoon, we had an awesome night. Poor little might screamed almost non-stop for almost two hours. It was awful. After that though, he slept from 9:30 until 4am and then until 8am! Even better that DS2 joined in (on the sleep, not the screaming!) and slept through until 6am and then only wanted his dummy so it was back to bed for me. Best nights' sleep in a while and it was fabulous!

We're taking it easy today. We've been out and about nearly every day for a week. I'm wearing Josh today because he was showing signs of his colic returning this morning and it's just too hard to deal with. He loves the HAB so he's in there having a sleep right now. We went to visit my new nephew again yesterday and he is long, but I couldn't believe how light he felt - and he's 3.8kgs! It's amazing how soon you forget how little they are at birth, I mean Josh is barely a month old!

Disgirl - they were booked out this week, so David's getting vaccinated in a couple of weeks - I think I'll still take him to the pool but I'll be careful - the most likely person to give him whooping cough would be me or DH, and I've been jabbed while in hospy. Would like DH to get jabbed too, but I think I have little chance of getting him to the doc or clinic during the day atm. Fortunately he hardly ever gets sick, so hopefully David will pick up his immunity.

Hi ladies, hope you dont mind me popping in. I was thinking of joining this thread while still pregnant, but just did not have the time to dedicate to it with working and general everyday life. Now I'm home 24/7 with my girls, with some time to spare!

DD#2 was born Jan 9th, we had a much better and much shorter labour than DD#1. She is now 5 almost 6 weeks old - must organise a ticker. We are breastfeeding, hasnt been the easiest path so far but we are learning still and slowly, slowly getting better at it. So I could definately do with some breastfeeding support and I would love to offer what I know so far to others in return. :)

As for public pools, as hot as it is I am steering clear for awhile too, just to be on the safe side. And whooping cough, we havent had the vax, been meaning to, but will be talking to the dr next week at her checkup.

But we all became close and wanted to stay together! We love new people to pick on so you are more than welcome! I had miss molly rose on the 29th dec! she was 3.1kgs, and oops i cant remember her other stats hehe!

i had my bub on the 18th Dec but was actually due on the 9th Jan

he was 2.2kg's but now weighs in at 4.4kg's, i am trying to BF its been a very rough journey and considering giving it up as he just eats and eats and eats more, i was told this was suppose to pass after a couple of weeks but doesnt appear to be stopping its abit annoying as i kinda dont get a break from him

Us: well as mentioned above K just doesnt stop eating its getting quite frustrating as i mentioned before i was told this would pass, but it still hasnt :(
K has had his needles poor little fella but he actually took them quite well
Not much to mention really except i dont know how much longer i can keep BFing for as its quite hard

summah is on the 50th percentile for everything.....

we havnt had a total change in hair colour yet.... she was nearly black when born and is now a dark blonde/light brown but the MCHN rekons she will end up blonde coz her eyebrows are super light

Summah had her hearing check today, and she passed with flying colours! :clap:

mind u i could have saved mum and i 2hrs and told them that, she wouldnt go to sleep :rolleyes: even though i made the appt for when she is always asleep!!

we have to go back at 11months to re check but i doubt there will suddenly be a issue!

Tegam - I had my ectopic in June 2009. They were amazed that I got as far as 9 weeks without any pain. It was a decent size too, but I just did not feel a single thing. Recovered well physically (apart from the keyhole surgery contributing to my hernia), but emotionally it took me alot longer, especially during the TTC stage for #2. How about you? Did they take your tube too?

Mizqtie - Breastfeeding is hard, hard work. Well for some anyway. I envy those women that find it easy! :) How often is K feeding? Maybe you could ring the ABA for some advice? I have come close to chucking it in so many times now, but I just keep going. I hope it starts to get easier for you really soon.

Jen, I'm sure David will be fine, the new footage of bubs with whooping cough have totally freaked me out though and after our hospital stay with DS2 when he was a bub I have no desire to do it again.

Isadora, WELCOME! My third son was born the day after your DD2 :) My older boys are 3 and 2. I am breastfeeding and fed the other two until they were 11 months (self weaned) and 14 months (I weaned him so I could get pg again). I find bfing relatively easy - sorry! My boobs are massive though - currently an F cup - so I figure they were made for this :lol: Not to say I haven't had my problems. DS2 gave me cracked and bleeding nipples and I use to cry at every feed with him - not to mention he use to feed hourly until three months, two hourly overnight, and then two hourly when he was a bit older, three hourly overnight! He was a piggy. I just figure it's such a short time in our lives and try to enjoy it as much as possible.

Tegam, :lol: at forgetting Molly's stats - I do that with Josh. I just figure there is no more room in my brain to remember that kind of information... although I've been asked so many times now I think I almost remember... maybe :lol:

Miz, K's gained so much weight - that's great! It's likely that the one-hourly feeds WILL end, but who knows when? As I mentioned to Isadora, DS2 fed hourly through the day and two hourly through the night until he was 3 months old. I was totally exhausted, but it was worth it because he got really sick and ended up in hospital at 3 months. The doc told me that he recovered so quickly because a) he was such a big boy for his age and b) he was breastfed and breastfed a LOT. I've never regretted sticking with it and soon after 3 months he slowed his feeds down a bit and then a bit more after that.
To answer your question, YES, bf bubs are generally hungrier because breast milk is easier for them to digest so it goes through them faster.
Brave boy, getting his needles and doing okay. We'll probably go for ours on Monday. I usually go with DH because I can't stand needles myself, but I think it will be too difficult for the five of us to all go!

Us: Well, 5am wouldn't be a bad time to start the day if it was the first time you're up. Unfortunately, not the case for me this morning. I think the humidity got to poor Josh and he was up for a feed at 2am which is early for him and then again at 5. DS2 was up at 5:30 and DS1 up at 6am. Ah the joys! i got a late night SMS last night informing me of a last-minute meeting at DS1's school today though so it might be a good thing that I'm up so early. I will have to get us all ready (I can usually cheat with myself and have a shower later in the day) so that I'm presentable for the meeting. So tired though, I hope they don't expect me to be presentable AND coherent! I'm not looking forward to corralling DS2, keeping Josh happy and trying to concentrate on what's going on at the same time!

Tegam - Well somehow I ended up with no.6 and DH would have been happy to stop at 1 too. So anything is possible for No.5. I think I could go for No.7 though, lol. Yet somehow I dont think my body could. For me it is now getting my head around not having any more bubs. yay for DH being home. Yay for 7wks on Wednesday, 8wks last Tuesday for us. Woohoo on the weightloss. hugs

This is just a quick update, I just dont have the time.

Well I finally went in for my 6wk checkup with the Dr, at 8wks. lol. Little Chloe had her immunisation, yet still getting over her sniffles, yet was well enough for the immunisations. The past couple of days though, especially last night she was having a hard time. Cried sooo much. Poor little bubba girl. Yet hopefully today is a better day, which so far seems to be, yet the sniffle are still around and defiantely playing a part in her being out of sorts. Cant wait for it to leave her.
As for me, my gp wants me to have a ct scan to check how things are going especially since the spinal drama with the spinal leak. She wasnt happy that I still have tingling i arms and legs and dizzy spells. So will make an appt for that soon.
Well I had lost all of my weight that I had put on which was when I got home from hospital after having Chloe, so 10days when I weighed myself. Yet after the stress etc and not looking after myself, I am now back up 5kgs, shocking. Came on so quickly, so trying now to remove that a heap more. So congrats to those who have lost weight.
Ohh I also had the BT's done for sugar and thyroid so will know what the results of that are soon.
Anyway better go and see Chloe, she is calling out (crying).

AFU: WELL i saw the whooping cough thing on the telly last night and its motivated me to get my large behind into gear to get DH and I our jabs.....

last night DH and i had "date night".... sounds so gay really! :rofl:
we didnt get summah looked after ,not quite ready for that yet, but we got takeaway and watched a movie and it was just nice, got summah to bed early so we would enjoy a quiet night together...
we watched the katherine heigal movie, the one where the parents die in a car crash ( cue the tears!) and then they pick their 2 friends to raise their daughter, but the friends dont really get along.....
anyways great movie, so sad though, i was sobbing like a looney!! :doh: dam baby making has made me soft!

anyways after it finished DH springs this on me:
" i want another baby........ ive changed my mind" :o

so i didnt even have to put any effort in, he talked himself into it!!!!
wont be happening yet, i need a nice long break!
im so excited he has agreed to it, but strangely i feel no hurry to get onto it.....

anways better go and put Summah down for her sleep and get some housework done!
