Babies Born ~ July 1st-15th 2009 #2

just a quick one, about to head off to bed...

Hayley's sleep is much better during the day now, it's great I can actually get stuff done! The last couple of nights haven't been so good...to bed at about 6.30 but then she is awake by 8. last night she didn't go back to sleep until 10 and that was after I put her in bed with me! Tonight she is asleep now after waking at 8, but I kept her up until a bit after 8.30. Will see what time she wakes up!

She has started rolling onto her tummy in her cot which makes bedtime even more fun. Not!
She did manage to roll from her tummy onto her back 3 times yesterday, so hopefully she has finally worked out how to do that and i won't have to roll her back over a zillion times a day when she gets sick of being on her tummy! Although she can really squiggle around a bit now when she's on it, has turned right around and squiggled backwards off her mat! Then she gets the legs and arms going like she is trying so hard to move more!

We might be moving next month too, fingers crossed we get approved for the house! It's in Tumut, which is about 100ks from Wagga. House is gorgeous, older style with wooden floorboards, gigantic yard which is split into front/back, back verandah is enclosed with railings and a gate (so can lock the dog out or the kid in!), 4 bedrooms and new kitchen and bathroom with a couple of little storage rooms. It's a huge house and I can't believe the size of the yard, our dog would love it! real estate didn't know if owner would allow pets, so hopefully they say it's alright. I know I shouldn't because I don't want to be disappointed, but I'm already thinking about packing and cleaning this place! Might be a struggle with an almost 6 month old.

Thought about starting solids too, but I think I will wait until after we move. She has always got her hands in her mouth, particularly her thumb or her pointer finger, even when I'm trying to feed her! SHe'll grab my hands and try and stuff them in her mouth too...so I dont know if it is her teeth or if she is ready to start solids. She doesn't seem hungry, the last couple of days she hasn't finished any of her bottles! But she is also really interested in what I'm eating, and tried to grab some chips from me today while we were having lunch (sorry kid, you're not starting solids by eating hot chips!).

Anyway better go before laptop battery runs out...and this was supposed to be a quick post!!! LOL

SS, Jasp, Miss E - Hooray for new friends :lol: Your little ones are gorgeous too, I love looking at baby pics ♥

Jess - So glad to hear your getting on top of your depression. Well done to you. I know how hard it is (I had clinical deppression when I was younger).

Naomi - I don't have any advice just :hug:'s. You've certainly had a tough time, hopefully things start to look up soon. Well done to Lachie in regard to TT sounds like he's doing really well. I find it really hard looking after one little monkey, I totally admire anyone who manages with two or more.

Miss E - I can't wait to do some proper chrissy shopping, my only problem will be restraining myself. lol. I think we'll get DS 3 prezzies and leave it at that lol. I've been wondering if we should get a high chair or not. do we really need it? I could feed him in his bouncer or on my knee when the time comes, could be messy though. lol. better to have 2 hands free and a tray would be good so he can have finger food. ... IDK, what does everyone else think?

SS - thank goodness Hayley's sleeping better.

AFM - Just recently I've really missed being pg. Feeling Isaac move in my belly and putting my hands on it and feeling so close to him. I sometimes catch myself holding my tummy and it makes me feel a bit empty. I love him to bits and so glad he's here but I really miss that feeling. I didn't really enjoy being pregnant, but the parts I did like, I really miss.
I also feel like he's grown up so quickly. Where did my tiny, little baby go?

Isaac's just started laughing properly the last few days. Real little giggles. It's soo cute, just melts my heart.
He almost rolled from back to tummy last night on our bed. but got stuck because his arm was in the way :lol: He's worked out how to move around in circles on his belly, theres lots of grunting involved though. Must be hard work.

Thanks Jasp, so excited to finally have an avatar! Thought I would change my name as well, Miss Excited doesn't work quite as well now that I'm no longer pregnant and I figured given my first name is Eve, I'd just shorten it to Miss E.

Heva I know what you mean with missing being preg. Towards the end I couldn't wait not to be preg any more, but now I miss having him in my belly. Mind you don't miss the water retention, sciatica, indigestion and getting up 6 times a night to go wee!

Hi to everyone else! I've started trying to stop wrapping Ash again (I sound like a broken record don't I). Yesterday he did really well and for the first time we put him down at night without being wrapped. That was a bit of a challenge... 3 hours later he still wasn't asleep and due for a feed so I ended up feeding him to sleep. He slept really well though, started crying at about 1.30am but when I went in he was still asleep, just had his arms waving about. So I tucked one into his sleeping bag and put him on his side. He then slept through till 7am. His sleep this morning was also a bit of a challenge, it took a good 30 minutes for him to go to sleep and then he only slept for 30 mins which is a worry cos the last week or so he's been having a really long sleep in the morning.

I feel a bit guilty because I have given up trying to get him to sleep on his back, he is clearly much more comfortable on his side or tummy and sleeps for much longer now that he can get there. So that's why I really want to get rid of the wrap, anyway will see how it goes.

Anyway, gotta run he's grizzling and needs to go to bed... hopefully it will go much smoother this time, oh well fingers crossed!

Thank you all so much for all your advice the last few weeks. It just helps so much hearing other people talk about what they are doing and it just makes you realise you aren't alone. Thank you, lots of words of wisdom from everyone and it was very helpful and made me feel heaps better.

Miss E - I do like the new name! Good luck with the wrapping and I hope this time Ash gets the hang of it. Sam is still one arm out only, we will try with two in the next few days and his merino wraps are arriving this week. Don't worry about sounding like a broken record, I think I do too most of the time!!

Heva5 - way to go on the rolling! Isnt it exciting! Sam rolled a few times but doesn't seem to now so I am waiting for him to do it again! He has started laughing sometimes but it seems mainly at my husband! Very cute though!

SS Storm- glad to hear that the sleep is getting better! Good luck with the new house, it sounds so fantastic! I really hope it works out and they are happy with pets. I have been umming and arring about solids too. I think Sam is almost ready, but maybe not quite. Will be thinking about it maybe around 5 months or so and just introduce a little bit of rice cereal and see how that goes. He does love watching me eat and drink though.

Jess - good to hear from you! Glad to hear you are feeling better, I was going to message you on facebook as I hadn't seen a status update for a while! I am glad that things are looking up for you.

Bekz - hope things are going okay and that the needles went well.

AFM - we had a few rough days after the needles last week with Sam very hard to settle. Then he went to 6 sleeps in a row of settling himself, now he is waking again once in the night! Mind you tonight he settled himself off to sleep which I am so proud of him for.
We had his photo taken with Santa last week! So gorgeous!! He was actually smiling, I have the disc so will put on facebook! Not quite rolling yet, did it a few weeks ago and hasn't attempted since. He is drooling lots and am thinking of buying a high chair in the next few weeks. Oh, we got him a fisher price rainforest jumperoo this week and he LOVES it! It is so great watching him bounce around and spin the things. So cute!! Hope everyone else is well and anyone I missed out!!

DAmn wonder week.....hate the process of it, i.e no sleep, clingy, grizzly, no knowing what he wants, but i do love knowing that soon there will be something new he can do.....although the way he is, we always seem to living in a wonder week lol

Cam has rolled a quite a few times onto his tummy and has rolled a couple of times onto his back, but loves moving around on his back mostly, loves standing and sitting...
Started solids about 4wks ago, the rice cereal, no he has 1-2 meals a day mostly pureed apple....about to get into making my own food for him like i did with DS1, much cheaper and great knowing what is actually going into it aswell, but will still buy jar food for when we go out.
Cam doesnt take a dummy, refused to, still refuses, has finally learnt to suck on his thumb. Teething pretty badly, can feel 1 bottom tooth almost through....so hopefully that eases things for him aswell, loves babling and has learnt to bable in a high pitch voice....sounds like i have a daughter when he does that lol

jasp: yeah thats the thing that keeps me going, is the fact it cant and wont last forever, days are getting better but slowly, very slowly lol...New Moon, was it good??

Miss E: i wonder too, some people seem to adapt to it easier and faster with more then one and i think that what sometimes makes me feel out of control, knowing others can do this and it feels like i cant iykwim
What kind of things have you got Ash for xmas?? We have alot of things from DS1, so shopping for Cam this year is pretty hard lol, was thinking about a walker though, was so against them with DS1 but got some ifo and advice etc so might do that, but i want to get him a toy aswell....just unsure what to get considering we already have stuff from DS1.
Thats great about Ash's naps, Cam only normally sleeps 1 full 4hr sleep for the day until bed time, but very greatful its in one where Lachie has his arvo nap aswell, so half the time i get atleast an hour to myself a day. Lachie loved the high chair, lived in it, but as we only have the one, Lachie isnt to keen in sharing it with his little bro, he shares most of his other things, so i can understand if there is some things he doesnt want to share, i just feed Cam in his bouncer.
No broken record hun....wrapping both mine stopped at 3wks and 2wks...they hated it, yet needed it to sleep properly, so it was tough for a bit to actually get them to sllep without it, but like anything after about 4-5 days they were used to it most of the time!

storm: its hard moving no matter what, we moved when i was a month off having DS1 and moved again when DS1 was 10 months old and then moved again when i was 1 1/2 months off having DS2 and DS1 was almost 2yrs old.....having kids and moving is not the greatest....one thing i can suggest, get Hayley baby sat if possible, then have her room/area set up before she gets home, easier transition then....sleep issues seem to be the norm of bubs this age, hopefully she settles into a routine soon for ya.

Heva: Thanks, i sometimes dont know how i manage, but like all parents know, you just do cos you have to! TT lachie is going well, last two nights overnight his nappy has stayed dry and he goes to bed with a bottle and has maybe 1 or two more after that too! So doing really well.
Gotta love it when they learn to laugh, life is all so inocent for them and they have no idea, so to see them get excited and laugh over the smallest things is great.
When i had Lachie, i missed being pg from about 1 month after, it lasted until i fell pg with DS2!! I have no had that feeling (thankfully) after Cam and hopefully dont, but scary enough i miss my actual Labour with Cam, it was almost exact to my birthing plan and was only 3hrs!!

Jetta: I love the 1st xmas with santa photo....DS1 hated him last year, so hopefully will go with cam this year!
Thats great about Sam settling though.....cam has done it a couple of times, but mainly goes to slep on bottle or while lying down with me.

Well we got the house!! YAY!!! It is so nice, I can't wait to move in, as hard as it is going to be! I think the cleaning is what I'm not looking forward to... At the moment plan is to sign the lease and pick up keys on 7th December, so I am counting down!

Which reminds me, we really must get down to the shopping centre and get santa photos done before we move!

Oh congrats Storm! How exciting! I love moving - hate packinng & cleaning , but love being somewhere new ;)

SS Storm - That is fantastic!! Congrats! I so know what you will go through with the move and packing. I was packing boxes in between sleeps and it was hard going!! Great once you move in though. And yes, we moved to a much bigger house too so that is why I employed cleaners! I would spend all my time cleaning 4 bathrooms otherwise!!

Jasp - I love that picture on your signature at the bottom, it's so cute!

Naomi - Oh for wonder weeks! I hope things get better soon, I posted on another forum a blurb I found on wonder weeks and found it so interesting. It was all about how it feels like they are regressing but they actually arent, they are just working out how to process all the info they are learning and it is actually a step forward in their development. It was really great to read and made me think about it as a good thing rather than how annoying it was! Way to go on the solids too, I am really debating when to start this. I don't want to start too early but I think he is getting more ready to try. Sometime over the next month I think I will. Sam is the same, he is loving standing and enjoys sitting too.

Just bought Sam some Christmas pressies! The jumperoo was meant to be for Christmas but we couldn't resist! I bought a laugh and learn puppy and thought I would buy something for the bath as he is loving bath time. I have requested from grandparents some toys for him for the next stage like 6 month plus stuff so he can grow into them. Rings on the pole and stacking cups - that sort of thing.

we got his sleeping bags yesterday, so last night was the first night with both arms out and in the bag! He slept throught the night! He has been back to settling himself to sleep again, thank you very much thumb in the mouth! Most of his day sleeps he is self settling now and I am very proud of him.
Going up to the shops today with a friend, he has never slept in the pram so we will see how we go!!
I am really undecided about starting solids. A few friends say once you start food it is harder as more prep etc, and I don't really have too much idea how to do it. Anyway, perhaps will wait until mid december when he is 5 months and see how we go.

Naomi, at this stage I've just got Ash a few Fisher Price things, a ball, sand bucket and shovel (mind you I'm not sure if he'll be ready for them this summer, but we can have fun showing him how to build sand castles. He's our first so we have nothing and are having to buy as we go, so I thought I would use christmas as a good opportunity to get stuff for the next 6 months or so till his birthday. I can't believe you get a 4 hour nap, that sounds like heaven, mind you with two you probably need it!

Jetta, we're still perservering without the wrap - 3 days now woo hoo!. This morning I actually put his wraps away with all the other things that are too small for him now so I guess there is no turning back. He's doing pretty well, mind you there are times when it takes him ages to go to sleep. Yesterday I had 45 minutes of grizzling/crying before he finally fell asleep. At that point I tucked his arms into his bag and it worked a treat. Night sleeps have been pretty good though. The last couple of nights he's been grizzling at 5am, when I go in he's still asleep but his arms are flying around so I tuck one in and then he's slept through till 7am. So I'm thinking that we'll stick with it because he seems like he's ready now.

Storm, I'm so happy for you! I can't wait till we're in the position to get a house. We have a three bedroom apartment which is a good size, but over three levels and it only has a tiny courtyard. I really want a house with a decent back yard before we have another one, but property is so expensive where we live that I think it'll be a couple of years before we can afford it cos I'll have to be working full-time again.

For the last month or so Ash has been up for about 2 hours before I put him down for a nap, but I'm beginning to think that maybe he needs to stay up a bit longer cos he can be really difficult to settle at the moment (could just be the wrapping thing though). The problem is that I think he gets bored and that is why he gets grizzly after about an hour and half. I make a point of us going out somewhere each day, even if it is just up to the shops or for a walk. When we're home he plays on his playmat (but gets pretty bored of that after awhile), then I will play with him for awhile, he'll have a swing, but then that's about all we have to do. I have been thinking of buying him one of those jumper/playtable things (Jasp I think you might have one for Arlea). They look like they would be quite entertaining, but they're a bit pricey and bulky (we have very little storage) and I don't want to get one if it's something he'll get sick of quickly...

Just quickly - yep we have one, I had one for DS2 & it was a godsend, and is proving to be the same for her. She LOVES it.
Her awake time usually goes something like - offer feed ( she won't always have one straight away) - on floor with nappy off - she will roll around & wriggle there until she grizzles, then she gets a nappy on & play with one of us, then in her play centre until she grizzles again , then cuddles with one of us, by then she's usually ready for a sleep. Cna all take anywhere from 1hr to 2.5 hours.

Try EBay - we actually got 2 & I am giving one to my sister for Christmas - one with no attached toys was $22 & the one with all the bells & whistles was $28! :dance:

I love them, they are so good especially as these days she wants to be 'up' either sitting or standing & this gives her support but she is still up & using her muscles. When we started DS2 on solids he was 4 mths & he used to have toast & fruit in there as well.

We got the Fisher Price Rainforest Jumperoo on ebay for $100 and they normally retail for $198 or something, there are quite a lot on there. He loves it and it is great.

As far as awake time is concerned, Sam only really lasts 1 1/2 hours. Sometimes in the arvo 2 hours but once he gets to 2 1/2 hours he is over it and really hard to settle so I try to make sure it is before that time. 1 1/2 hours though is really all he takes and he starts getting grizzly then and is quite easy to settle if I get him to bed around then. I use to think he was getting bored but I tried pushing it more and it didn't work.

Anyway better go, he has been at the shops all day and barely slept so having trouble at present!! Good luck with the wrapping, sounds like he still needs it a little bit but definately sounds like he is improving and getting use to it more.

Heva- I will have a read of your b/f link and see if I can offer any support.

Thanks girls, I am so excited about moving..maybe a little too excited as I already have about 5 boxes packed. They are only small ones, but still...lol.

Hayley usually lasts 1.5 - 2 hours before it's sleep time again, although she has gone as short as 1hr and as long as 2.5-3 hours (that's if we are out shopping, she might have a short sleep in her pram but I don;t really count that!). She has been fairly good the last few days, having three sleeps each 1.5 to 2 hours each and has started sleeping better through the night again (thank god!).
She has worked out how to squiggle backwards, she ended up halfway across the loungeroom yesterday!

Better go, it's windy as here today and need to get the washing in before it blows to Sydney!

wow, another busy week in here!

Miss E - Zac is up for 2-3 hours these days :rolleyes: and then only sleeps for 45 mins, maybe 1.5 hours if I'm lucky... he may or may not want/need a feed as soon as he gets up. Early in his awake time is a good time for me to get stuff done as he is generally fairly happy playing by himself and just keeping an eye on me, but as the time goes by I need to get more interactive as he gets bored and frustrated. Sometimes I find that I can 'park' him on a mat or in his rocker next to a window and he will quite happily zone out for a while and just gaze out the window.

heather - you must be feeling pretty stressed! The only thing I can think of different to what others have said already is whether you've eaten anything different recently which may have affected the taste of your milk? Definitely ring the ABA help line (1800 Mum2Mum) - 24 hours, and they are absolutely awesome - I've rung them a couple of times when I was having BF problems and they were just so amazingly supportive and helpful :)

jetta - I think you've definitely got to be ready to stick to it once you start solids! There's not too much involved in mixing up farex ;) but I guess it snowballs from there... Zac has been having some farex in the mornings for the last ten days or so, and he is really getting into it - opening his mouth for the spoon as soon as he sees it :-)
What sort of sleeping bags did you get?

AFM - had the 4 month needles on Tuesday. He was so good, but definitely had a bit of a reaction to them - he was quite out of sorts, grizzly and hard to settle, and got very hot red cheeks. We gave him some panadol at bedtime and he had a lovely sleep and seemed to be back to his usual cheery self in the morning, although today he has been a bit grumbly again, so I'm not sure if there's still a little reaction going on.

We have been trying the Aldi nappies lately, but I'm thinking they're a bit of a false economy...continuing to use them until they're finished, but using Huggies overnight again after a few very wet nights in the Aldi nappies! I'm not sure whether it's partly because the Aldi ones cover a broader weight range - atm Zac is in the same size as his 9-week old cousin! The next size up is 'toddler' which doesn't seem right...

sloane - thanks for hugs :), I haven't heard from barb or mantaray as everyone said I should, how long do they usually take to reply? Should I bump it?

Miss E - I don't think I'll be any help to you re time spent awake as DS is so all over the place due to lack of feeding. He doesn't eat so he wont sleep and he wont sleep cause he wont eat :wall: although after posting yesterday he was much better and actually had a couple of decent-ish feeds. I swear he can read my thoughts.

SS - at least your not leaving it to the last minute :lol: Just don't burn youself out. :)

Cate - I thought it could be something like that, but I don't think my diets changed at all, although my FIL has moved in recently and he does the majority of the cooking, maybe he's putting something in I'm not aware of?
I've recently started going to the gym. I wonder if that could be related?
We use the aldi nappies and I love them, we go through about a pack a week. We tried the huggies ones once but they just didnt fit and he was well within the weight range. But every child is different, so each to thier own. I do remember reading somewhere that someone thought the aldi nappies had changed and were less absorbant, but I don't know, I haven't noticed a difference. Isaac has been in the crawler size since he was about 2 months old, I think and they still fit fine.
Hope Zac is feeling better today.

AFM - Isaac fed and slept much better yesterday,IDKW? Nothing changed I dont think. It always seems to be that whenever I post anything about him he changes it. I swear he can read my mind. I was thinking maybe his feeding problems are related to me having started at the gym. WDYT?
We bought a Jolly Jumper yesterday. When I worked in a nursery the kids loved it so I thought we'd give it a go. We're going to get the stand alone frame thing today so it doesnt have to go on the doorways and we can put it where we want. The only problem is DF wont let me get it out and try him in it before christmas. :lol: I'm so desperate to see if he likes it. He loves standing and jumping on my knee so I think were onto a winner.

Lovelycate- we got the merino kids ones. They are double the price of gro bags but the gro bag ones are 0-6 mths, merino kids are 0-2 years so I figure I would have had to have bought new ones soon anyway. The gro bag ones also have different tog ratings for different temps and becuase his rooms is so hot, the merino ones are 18-30 degress which means you just know they will be fine. Merino wool meant to help if he sweats but keep him warm as well. You can buy two as a bundle and they are around $140 each but I think that becuase you can use them for 2 years they are worth it.
Sam was definately grumpy for a few days and very unhappy when going to sleep etc after the needles.

Heva5 - I just read your link and big hugs. I can't imagine how stressful that would be. I am a first time mum so don't have much advice for you. You asked about the exercise. I have been back at the gym twice a week and walking a fair bit and I have read in books that they use to think that exercise could affect your milk but this book - what to expect the first year seems to say that it doesn't. I totally agree with calling the breasfeeding help line. I have rung them when I was first breast feeding and they are so helpful. They also respond quite quickly to emails you send through as well (normally within24 hours). Hang in there, you are doing a great job of feeding him and doing your best and it must be very stressful and hard going when he won't feed.

SS Storm - how funny about the wriggling! I am still waiting for Sam to start rolling again, he is almost there from back to tummy and this morning when having tummy time did this weird thing like he was trying to squirm forward!!

We have had real success with 2 full nights in sleeping bags with both arms out and he has slept through whole night! We went to the shops yesterday and I tried to get him to have a sleep in the pram, put seat back and muslin wrap over it and he went bananas!! hated not being able to see. Ended up falling asleep while I had lunch with a girfriend sitting up so at least that was something! SooOOOOO hard not to crazy with the present buying!! So many things I want to buy him for the pool and to play with!!

heather - i bumped it! i hope they see it soon! it might be to do with the gym - i know they say that exercise can have an affect on supply but i thought it needed to be some very hardcore exercising, if that makes sense? it might just be a phase though - hopefully today will be another better day! i also noticed that when AF came back that DS gets fussier but it's not for 2 weeks & he still feeds, just goes on & off & whinges during a feed so it doesn't sound the same.

miss e - prob not much help here either because corey just doesn't want to sleep much during the day at all. i do notice that he is generally tired within 2 hours or so of waking, sometimes a bit longer but often a bit less at the start of the day. the jumper play table thingys look great, we might have to look into one as well!

afm, still trying to work out the best plan of attack for day sleeps! i try not to stress about it & just go with the flow...but i'd be happier to do that if there was something that worked! most of the time he feeds to sleep, which would be fine by me if it always worked :lol: i would like him to sleep for more than a total of an hour a day though!
