Thought I'd pop in and do a less selfish thread today. Sorry to be a bit self indulgent yesterday, I had just about reached the end of my tether. I think those 24 hours have been the hardest we've had so far...
Kezzabird, welcome! Nice to have you with us. Gee you must have your hands full with the twins! One of the ladies in my mothers group has twins and it amazes me how well she does, but she does say that because they are her first that is all she knows so she thinks it has been easier to adapt. She's also had them sleeping 7 till 7 for awhile - maybe it is a twin thing LOL. I know what you mean, I can't believe Ash is 5 months either, this tooth has really made me realise how quickly he is growing up. I'm trying to savour every gummy smile I get at the moment because I know very soon it won't be so gummy.
Heva, I hope today is better for you. It's awful when you have a fight with your partner, I think it makes the dealing with the day so much harder. I'll go have a look at your thread when I'm done here and see if I can help.
Jasp, I'm also going to do the BLS. I've been doing heaps of reading lately and it makes the most sense to me. I think I'll hold off a couple more weeks though, probably at christmas we'll give it a go. Because I've got all the IL's here in Jan I do want to get a start before they arrive, so they don't interfere too much, I'm sure they will think BLS is a load a **** , so I would like to get my confidence up with it before I have to try and justify my parenting approach to them.
Storm I'm so glad the move is over for you now. I'd say it is pretty likely that the disruption is why Hayley has been a little bit difficult. It's a big change for us as adults, but for a little one is must be massive, the world that they have known has changed completely. I wouldn't be suprised if it takes her a little while to get used to her new surroundings and back into a routine.
AFM the teething continues... Yesterday afternoon was hideous, I had 2.5 hours of crying. Of course I finally got him to sleep 2 minutes before DH walked in the door. But he only slept for 20 minutes and then after his bath it all started again. Luckily DH handled it, I had definately run out of steam. Last night was better than the night before. He kept waking up crying in the first part of the night, but around midnight we settled him for the last time and then he slept through till 6.30am which was good. I really needed a good solid block of sleep. This morning has been a little better, but he is definately still in pain. The dribble rash is also a little better, but I am doing everything I can to stop it getting inflamed, last night it was awful (it looked so sore) I made an appt with the GP, but have cancelled it this morning because it has settled down a lot. Just trying to keep it dry and am putting lots of powder on under the chin because that was also really inflamed.
I went to see the MCHN this morning. He's now just over 7.5 kgs (double his birth weight) and is 66cm tall. Still right on the 50th percentile.

Just quickly - MissE I dont know, you might have already tried it but Arlea loves a cold wet facewasher at the moment, she chews it & bites it & cuddles it & sleeps with it. It does sound like Ash's teeth are giving him hell so it might not do much but couldn't hurt to try?
As for BLS being ****, it's funny how things change... when I started my kids at 4 mths they had toast & fruit, DS2 at this stage loved chewing on a watermelon rind... a lot of stuff was still pureed but they were also feeding themselves KWIM? To me, BLS is a bigger better version of that & makes perfect sense ;) good idea to get the hang of it before the IL's get there so you can tell them to go jump
Heva I am off to read your thread now  hope today is a better day for you
-
miss e - poor ash...and poor you! i hope he's doing better? i've read a few people on here say they've found neurofen to be a lot better than panadol for teething :dunno: i'm thinking about trying an amber teething necklace as well. i figure it can't hurt!
heva - i hope today has been a better day  i don't have any answers, but i know that corey has been harder to settle for day sleeps over the past couple of months.
Kezzabird - haven't the 5 months gone so quickly?! we haven't introduced solids yet but corey did have his first rusk today  we're planing to do BLS & will prob start in the next week or so to build up to him actually eating at 6 months. well, that's the plan!
ss_storm - hope hayley has settled more easily for you tonight.
jasp - thank you for the ! last night was a better night so maybe we've turned a corner? or maybe wishful thinking! of course i didn't sleep that well because i was expecting him to wake all the time. i hope arlea hasn't had a repeat of the screaming.
does anyone else get a spin out from seeing the belly buddies thread due 1-15 july 2010? i can't believe that was us last year!
-
Sloane- I keep nearly clicking on that thread, all I see is the "July 1st-15th" and think oh that's us...then I see the "belly buddies" bit..lol. It does seem weird though, this time last year I was a few months pregnant and telling people! And also praying I didn't get morning sickness too badly when we travelled to Mackay to visit MIL for christmas!
Had another tearful night trying to put her to bed...I know she is tired because she gets grumpy and doesn't want to sit in her rocker, doesn't want to play on the floor, doesn't want to sit on my lap...and is rubbing her eyes and yawning. I think maybe she just isn't quite tired enough though? I tried putting her to bed and she just cried and cried, would go to sleep for about 5 seconds then start crying again. So i got her up and changed her nappy and we played on the floor for 10 mins or so then I let her play with the cord for the light (our new house has funky light switches- they are the ones that you pull on a string coming from the ceiling..I hope that makes sense!), anyway they seem to entertain her for ages, and it should be helping her to improve her fine motor skills too! so after probably half an hour or so I put her back in bed and after a little cry she did go off to sleep, she did wake up crying and I went in and she was on her tummy, she has been sleeping on her side but almost on her tummy (her arm is still underneath her) so I just think she wanted to be rolled back over again!
I just hope she settles down soon, it is so draining when it takes that long to get her to sleep and she is obviously tired but just cries and cries...she even did it in the pram when I took the dog for a walk this morning, usually in the pram she just gradually falls asleep but nope not today! Cried and grizzled then finally fell asleep... She is going to bed a couple of hours later than what she used to, before the whole moving thing started! But still waking up around the same time. I am wondering if starting solids is going to help or not? I can't wait to start her, but then I don't want to start too early.
Miss E- hope Ash's tooth/teeth come through soon, I empathise with the crying! At the moment Hayley loves chewing on my finger, or sucking on my hand or my arm..feels really funny but it must feel good on her gums!
Jasp how is Arlea going, is she on the move yet? Hayley was so funny the other day, she was in her cot trying to go to sleep (at least she was happy and not crying! Lol) and each time I went in there she was facing a different way! she loves bouncing at the moment too, she pushes her legs off anything she makes contact with, particularly the sides of her cot, and she can rock herself in her rocker if she pushes her feet off the end of it! Thinking about getting her a jolly jumper or something similar as she loves to bounce so much.
Well better get myself to bed, it seems everytime I plan on getting to bed early I'm up until 11!
-
Geez I can talk (or type!) can't I! Lol... I think I almost write a novel every time I post in this thread!
-
hi all,
just wanted to let you all know, we finally got a monitor today, so there is quite a high chance i'll be able to get on more during the day now........kid permitting though lol
got a 3k back pay from centrelink from underestimating ricks pay for the last couple of yrs, so soooo much stress has disapeared which is great, actually did half a xmas shop tonight and didnt feel guilty about the money i spent!!
sorry for no personals....its 10.30 here and DS1 is still wide awake and Rick just got comfy on the lounge and looks like he trying to sleep....FFS feels like im a single mother to 2 alot these days, plus being his slave with "extras"........having a full on night with DS1 and Rick has not stepped up to plate ONCE to help out!! FFS
better go otherwise my day is going to be hell 2morrow, although my mum comes over so atleast thats something!!
Goodnight all......
-
it's gone a bit quiet here again! Our computer's been playing up so I haven't been able to get on for a while myself.
I hope everyone is well and coping with the ramp up to Christmas. Christmas shopping with a baby is a whole new world of joy isn't it?
jasp - I think there's been quiet a bit of discussion about Tizzie Hall's methods elsewhere on bellybelly, so I would be interested in what you think. As with everything I think it comes down to what works for you, and you will know if it's an approach that you feel comfortable with or not.
Miss E - I hope the teething has settled down a bit. Sounds horrendous!
ss_storm - isn't it frustrating when you can see that they're tired, and you think "just close your eyes and go to sleep!" - seems like such a straighforward solution, but they resist it ...
naomi - I hope things have improved over the last few days for you.
AFM - have thought that Z was starting teething a few times recently as he is chewing on everything and has quite rosy cheeks at times (plus the drool), but can't feel anything coming through.
He has really discovered his voice and has taken to some quite high-pitched squealing. Also blowing some very messy raspberries, especially at old ladies who stop to admire him in the shops
Daytime sleeps are still challenging, ho hum. Better go, he's yodelling away in his cot (he should be asleep!).
-
Hi all,
Hope everyone is doing well, it certainly is quiet in here of late, I suppose everyone is busy trying to get ready for christmas.
Cate, hope Zac is doing okay, this teething business is so much harder than I thought it would be, our saga is continuing... Don't you just love their little noises though, they are so sweet.
Naomi, sounds like a nice bonus, especially at this time of year!
Jasp, I gave the facewasher a go, but he doesn't seem to like anything cold in his mouth, except for a carrot, that seems to work a treat.
AFM Ash is still teething, we now have two little teeth sticking through, but things certainly haven't gotten much better. I would've thought that once they had cut they wouldn't hurt as much, but it appears not. I have been using the Brauer Teething Relief drops which work quite well and I don't feel bad giving them to him because they are all natural and homeopathic, but he is still waking at night in pain. It's such a shock to the system because he's always been such a good sleeper. The other night we were up for two hours trying to settle him. He'd fell asleep in my arms 4 times, but each time I put him down in his cot he would start screaming. In the end I gave him some panadol and he finally went back to sleep. Then last night he woke up at 1.30am and I was able to settle him back to sleep with a cuddle. The he was up again at 3.15am so I gave him some panadol and a feed and he managed to sleep through till 7am. Just hoping that we get a decent break in between the next lot cos it's really starting to take its toll on me now, it's been nearly two weeks! Oh well fingers crossed tonight is better for us... Gee how I would love him to sleep through, guess I was really taking it forgranted till now.
-
it has been quiet, but i can't believe how fast time is flying at the moment! i thought it'd only been a day or so since i posted but it's 6 days!
miss e - that sounds like it's been a tough couple of weeks  have you thought about one of those teething necklaces? i wouldn't normally go for that sort of thing, but so many people seem to have success with them that i'm seriously considering one for corey.
lovelycate - those high pitched squeals are funny but so hard on the ears at the same time! sounds like he's charming the old ladies though
ss_storm - how are you going? i've been meaning to reply to your other threads but i keep running out of time. are you still thinking about solids? i only decided that corey was really ready when he grabbed a piece of bread out of my hand on sunday and put it straight in his mouth & starting sucking & knawing on it! we're doing BLS so i'm not going to def give him something every day cos i'm still very conscious of the 6 month guideline but i just feel like he's really shown that he's ready, if that makes sense?
afm, corey has a tooth through & it looks like another isn't far off :) he's also been tryong some food & seems pretty impressed with the diff tastes!
hope everyone else & their bubs are well :)
-
have been meaning to post for a week or so but every time I go to post something else distracts me, or I can't be bothered finding the thread..lol.
Thanks for the wet washer suggestion Jasp- have found Hayley loves sucking/chewing on one. Has been great the last day or so, it's been very warm outside and have been taking the dog down to the river for a swim of an afternoon, I give Hayley a cold wet washer to suck on to keep her a little cooler. How's Arlea going in her moving attempts? Hayley's really giving it a shot but doesn't move far! Lol. She does like squeaking her feet on the wooden floors though!
Cate- their vocal sounds are so cute at this stage aren't they! Today all H wanted to do was blow raspberries and "sing" while i was trying to give her a bottle...I did laugh but it was a bit frustrating! She loves yelling too..I am so glad we don't have neighbours here! Well we do, but one side is an auto-electrician and the other is a solicitors office, so the auto guy would be making enough noise in his workshop not to hear us, and the solicitors are only there during business hours.
Miss E- hope Ash gives you some relief from his teething soon. It's a bit sad though, no more gummy smiles! I better take some more photos of H before her teeth appear (not that we don't already have hundreds of photos..lol).
Sloane- how's corey going with his teething business, hope he isn't giving you too much grief. Glad he is liking his tastes of 'real' food!
AFM- I forgot to mention earlier that Hayley is now in her own room :crying: Our bedroom in our new house is too small to fit her cot, so is now in her own bedroom. I think it's been tougher on me than on her, but she has settled in pretty well. She doesn't wake up chatty anymore though, or at least not at night. A couple of times she has been fairly hysterical before i finally wake up..that was the first few nights she was in her own room. i think my internal baby monitor has now increased it's sensitivity so I now hear her pretty much as soon as she wakes.
And after another argument with DF (man do they ever end :wall: ) she had her first taste of solids today...thanks to MIL saying last night that she started her kids on solids at like 2 months and DF's aunty is giving her son weetbix (he is younger than Hayley)...DF was then desperate to start her on solids right now  Told him today that if he wanted to start solids now he could feed her...in the end I ended up feeding her
She only had one or two teaspoons of rice cereal and pulled some funny faces...she didn't spit it out though, so we'll see how we go. DF wants me to give her tinned baby food but no way am I doing that, will make my own baby food with a mix of BLS once she is 6 months. oh and would someone please tell him that i am not giving her baby custard or anything else sweet to start her off :wall: just because that's what your mum did does not make it *right*
-
feel free to send him my way ss_storm, i'd be more than happy to set him straight
-
Lol I might have to take you up on that!
-
Without sounding thick.....can someone please tell me what BLS is?
-
Kezzabird- BLS is baby led solids. I haven't read too much about it yet but basically I think it's giving them solids as finger food, so letting them feed themselves and choose what they want to eat.
-
I thought it meant baby lead solids but got confused when you said about doing a mixture of veggies and BLS, I didn't realize that it meant finger foods. I must be an old timer as I haven't heard of this BLS and letting baby choose.;)
-
Just a quick one from me, my last pump for the night before bed ....
Storm, Arlea is kind of mobile - she wriggles & squirms her way around, she got stuck between 2 bits of furniture this morning, lol. She is still getting up on all fours but doesn't go anywhere that way yet, and there is a fair bit of face-planting into the floor going on too!
Solids - it must be very very hard to deal with the 'my mum did this' bit. I guess you could remind your DP that times & advice changes... I don't know, I know it must be very hard to deal with. I started all my kids right on 4 mths, that was the advice back then, now with Arlea we are waiting a bit longer & I feel like it's taking forever! My nephew is a week younger than Arlea & SIL has started him on solids already. I felt a bit weird when she said that - like she might think I was odd for not having her on them already? I guess it doesn't matter what we do, there is always someone doing different...
Sarah, rofl - you could come & sort out my DH afterwards - I left the kids with him tonight while I went to work Christmas dinner - came home (he is in bed) and the two older kids tell me he was very stressed & swearing a lot, but wouldn't let anyone help him
Corey has a tooth! yay! I hope the next one slips out nice & easy for him ; ) Sounds like he is definitely ready for food. I think the guidelines are rough, it might vary a bit from bub to bub? Some would be ready before others? JMO, but he certainly sounds like he's enjoying it!
Miss E, hope the teething settles down soon, poor little guy (and poor you!)
Glad the Brauers is working for you, it's good to find something that helps even if it's just a bit. Just keep repeating - this too shall pass -
Cate, I have found Tizzie Hall's book at the library but I have some overdue stuff to return first, lol. I am going to try & get it by this Saturday, will definitely let you know what it's like. I have also wondered if Arlea could be teething - nothing to see or feel here either but I have a friend who didn't see or feel anything until they were there - so you never know ;) Gotta love the raspberries lol : D
Naomi, that 's great news about the money - just in time for Christmas! Things have a way of coming when you need them sometimes. Hope you get some help from your DP soon, it's no fun feeling like a single parent when you have them to worry about as well!
AFM I had a bit of a melt-down today... I am so tired & stressed & over it all! DH has 2 weeks off with no pay over Christmas so I have been working as much as I can, at home & in the office - it's starting to wear me down a bit - and the kids are off school now too so there are the usual arguments & dramas to deal with. The house is a mess & I never have enough time to do anything! argh... well like I said I had a melt-down, sat & cried for an hour...maybe two  but I feel better now. Tomorrow is another day :D
Hope veryone else is well.
Gee, so much for my short post
-
hi all just flying in been staying out with the kids dad who doesnt have a computer. doing ok i personnaly have had some up n down days but im getting there. anton is growing fast n doing well. hopw everyone has a great chrissy n a safe new year
-
Hey guys!
haven't been on for ages and felt bad but it looks like it has been fairly quiet with Christmas approaching anyway! I have been reading and hope everyone is well!
Sam turned 5 months last week! I can't believe it. We bought a high chair and he has had some rice cereal for 4 days and today had some rice cereal mixed with a bit pf pumpkin. I thought it was ready as he has been so interested in us eating and picking things up. He took to it like he had been doing it for years! Just straight in and was grabbing the spoon and wanting more! he loved it and we got it on film too! He is rolling a bit more now and pushing his legs a little as though he wants to move. He has started putting his feet in his mouth and loves playing with his toes now.
Anyway will try to write before Christmas but hope everyone has a good break!
