What a beautiful birth story! I bet you were surprised to find you were at 8 cm!!! Enjoy the newborn snuggles. I saw photos on FB and he is just gorgeous :D.
I got DD2 weighed today and she has put on 300 grams in a week, little piggy! Glad to know my EBM is sustaining her so well :D. She had a 6 hour sleep today, I just wish she would do that during the night instead of during the day!!!
Hope everyone else is doing OK with their bubs.
-
Cmkm - hope your first night went well :)
Nat- hope you are enjoying your babymoon x x
-
Wow cmkm, when he finally decided to arrive he really wanted to make a grand entrance!! So glad you got to have a vaginal birth and don't have to worry about the ramifications of a c-section. Hope all is going well at home so far.
Go Maruschke, what magic EBM you have! How long until DD2 is strong enough to suck from the boob? And she had a six hour sleep, I'm jealous, even if it was during the day!! The longest DS2 has slept is 4.5 hours :(
And speaking of sleep, it's now 1pm, ds2 woke at 9:45 and I'm still trying to get him to sleep :wall:
-
cmkm - Congratulations again! He's a beautiful boy, and what an entrance! Glad you were able to avoid the c/s and the complications that were going to follow
Maruschke - That's fantastic! What a little champion feeder you have! I'd love DD2 to have a huge sleep at night too....oh boy, I can dream right?
lise - Hope you could get DS2 to have a sleep for you. It's so hard when they're unsettled.
AFM - We had our MCHN check yesterday and for the first time, I loved the nurse. She was great and naturally the sucky bit is when we move in three odd weeks, we change councils, so I have to transfer to another clinic. Doh! DD2 gained 210g in five days, she's such a feeder! We think there was a discrepancy with her length at birth because yesterday's measurement said she was 55cms. It was checked and double checked and that means she's grown a whopping 4cms in two weeks...hmmm. I tend to think that the measurement taken at birth (at 3am!) was a little out.
She's going really well. She was a bit unsettled yesterday, but it was so cold here in Melb yesterday that I had trouble keeping the house warm. She was happy to snuggle into me often, but as soon as I put her to bed, she'd crack it. Today she's back to being happy again. She's a really cruisy baby, I'm just enjoying her so much. DD1 is being a gem with her, really gentle around her. We're copping some attitude still from DD1, but I'm convinced it's just because she's 3!!!!!!

Cmkm - what a wonderful birth story. Enjoy your little one. I hope the sleeping keeps going for the next day or two.
Maruschke - it sounds like you have magic EBM. I wish my boobs could learn yours' secrets! Great job.
PRMG - Good luck with moving. We may be moving in January and I'm dreading it big time - always so stressful. I can't imagine doing it with such a little bub but I'm sure you'll manage things brilliantly.
Just a quick post from me today. DD is finally gaining weight (at least a little.) I haven't got her book in front of me and don't remember the exact numbers but the MCHN is hoping for her to be back to birth weight by 3 weeks. I'm still struggling to express as often as I should be but I'm so relieved things are going in the right direction. She had a really unsettled night last night. I think she's getting overtired. We haven't got any consistent evening routine yet. Always seem to run out of time and be doing stuff like bathing her at 9-10pm etc. What is 'bedtime' for your little ones?
Oh, and I had my first post-pregnancy sushi yesterday. Yumm!
-
DD2 has her last bottle EBM feed at 10 pm, then a nappy change, and then goes down for the night. Last night she woke at 2.30 am but only took 30 mils, then up again at 6.45 am. I got suddenly engorged last night so I didn't sleep a wink despite DD2 being so good.
-
I lost three posts yesterday and was so cross I gave up! Now I have to remember what I said ;)
PRMG, I don't know how it works in Melbourne but do you HAVE to change clinics when you move? Can you just forget to tell the clinic?! Or will it be too inconvenient when you move to go back there? I can empathise about the attitude - DS1 has been testing the boundaries but its also hard to tell if he's playing up because of Atticus or because he's two!
k4t, yay for DD gaining weight, that's great! Can't help you with the night time routine, last night DS2 went to sleep around 7pm and woke about 11pm for a feed, but other nights it's around 9pm. I'm thinking we need more of a night time routine also but he's still so random during the day that I'm not sure how we would implement it...
Another crappy night with DS2. I think all up he spent 4 hours max in his bassinet yesteay, the rest of his sleeps were all on me, including from 111pm last night. I completely lost it last night, I'd just had enough, and I even yelled at DS2 that I just didn't want to hold him any more. And then of course I hid in the toilet and cried for being a bad mother. I have my six week check up next week and I'm not sure if I should be asking about reflux meds for DS2 (he doesn't seem it be in pain as such, more just the constant vomiting, especially when he's flat. I elevate one end of his bassinet but it still seems to wake him up...) or anti depressants for me. I think part of his issue is he's over tired but he's so hard to get to sleep! How does everyone get their baby to sleep and how much sleep do they have in a 24 hour period?
-
lise - arrrggghhhhh, but may I just say you are NOT a bad mother at all, that's a tough day babe, no wonder you lost your patience. Our going to sleep routine is pretty basic, DD seems wakeful in the mornings so we put her in the bouncer etc, or lay her on the playmat - not that she plays as such, but gives her a chance to kick her legs, or have a different view from the bassinet or our arms. She probably sleeps about 20 hours in 24 - but she's only just hit 2 weeks so I know it will get less and less as she 'wakes' from her newborn sleepiness. To get her to sleep I am a big fan of wrapping her up tight in a muslin wrap and will rock or pat her in my arms and pop her in the bassinet just prior to her dozing off, or once asleep. When she is a bit restless we generally do bath/feed/wrap and this is a winner. Last night she was a bit unsettled after a feed at 230am so I just took her back to bed with me :) I think this post is ok to link as its not commercial, but here is some interesting 'norms' re newborn sleep patterns

k4t - 'Bedtime' is whatever time her feed is after I put DS to bed - so 8-9ish, We've bathed at 9pm a few times, mostly cos it's just easier sometimes once I have DS sorted for the night. I keep the lights dimmed overnight for feeding and this seems to help keep her sleepy until daylight (so far :D ) I remember with DS that he was most wakeful at night around the 6 week stage - so am bracing myself for that!
PRMG - I just rang up CYH (same as MCHN over there) for our home visit, they have a bit of a backlog apparantly. They are coming out on Aug 20th so I wont have DD weighed again until then. DS has had a bit of toilet training regression since DD has been home, however its more because I forget to remind him to go do wee's like I would have have regularly done (the day just flies by and I realise its been hours since he's gone to the loo and as a consequence his jocks are wet), so we are making a conscious effort to get back on track with that!
Maruschke - Nice work on the 300gm gain - what a champ DD2 is!!
Must away, I swear every I get on the PC to write a decent post DD knows and awakens for a feed LOL! I'm too lazy to post via my phone (which is how I read most posts), hate typing on the iphone keyboard  Anyway, in a nutshell, we have had a great week so far, hope I don't jinx myself by typing that!! :o

I'm back!!
Anyone else feeling a little melancholy at no longer being pregnant? Annika completes our family so there will be no more pregnancies for me, or another birth, and although I am happy with our family exactly as it is, it's bitter sweet for me, especially as our journey to get pregnant was a challenge. I think its part due to the big emphasis that had been in our life previously to get pregnant, but then also the fact that I enjoyed both pregnancies a lot, and I guess it feels like it's the 'end of that era'. Probably sounds dumb but anyway......
-
-
Nay, not dumb at all. It's a chapter of your life that has ended, but it's brought you two wonderful little people. I get the bittersweet about it. Each night since M has been born, I've gone to bed and reached down to hug my belly and then remember that it's no longer there. Even after the pregnancies I have had, I still have had a couple of moments of "that won't ever happen again" so for you who loved being pregnant, I understand why you're feeling the way you are
-
I understand Nae. I feel like I am mourning the end of my own fertility (even though it sucked to begin with, LOL). Getting ready to discard our last frostie and tie my tubes and say goodbye to that part of life for good.
-
Thanks Girls - Maruschke we have 6 frosties we wont be using, we had none after DS and I kinda wish it was the same then we wouldn't have any left not to use ITMS. DH plans to get the snip (which is totally ironic as our fertility issues are male factor), but we're not really up for a natural surprise in the future, I know it seems a bit contradictory in the fact that I am a bit sad not to be pregnant again but not actually want more children, but glad you guys get it!
BTW - Love both of your new Avi's. Just waiting for mine to be uploaded :)
-
We're a bit the same here Nay, not really sure what to do. I would dearly love a girl (but am convinced if we did have a third it would be a boy anyway!). We have one frozen embie so at this early stage we think we'll transfer and see what happens. If it works fantastic, if it doesn't, well I guess that would be it for us. In some ways I'd like to try and gender sway, but for us using our last frozen embie means the risk of down syndrome would be based on my age at the time of EPU (if you remember we were considered high risk with Atticus and had to consider an amnio etc) and therefore lower.
Ironically I had thought we wouldn't have to worry about contraception as our FS had said zero chance of falling pregnant naturally - now that we know that's not the case (hello Atticus!!!) then we'll have to work out options. Another natural pregnancy would be fabulous but we come back to the higher DS risks so we'll be needing some form of contraception. I was on Depo Provera prior to TTC, I'm sure there's better this out there now!

Hi ladies,
I hope I can join this group even though DS2 was born in August (8 days late). I plan to put up a birth story soon, because I remember reading them all in preparation for my own. I was actually really scared about the labour, especially after DS1. But I had a beautiful water birth which according to the midwife was 'textbook' apart from the bit where I forgot to pick the baby up from the bottom of the bath - I was so relieved to get rid of the pressure of him pushing on my bowels!!
Anyway, we are going really well. DS2 was born the day after my Gran passed away in NZ
-
Sorry, accidentally pressed send on my iPad (typing & feeding) I will come back later and try to do some personals...
-
Nat - you better stay with us! We'll chase you down in the August thread otherwise lol :)
-
Nat, i'm confused - haven't you posted in here already? Or is my baby brain so mush I'm just making stuff up now?
DS2 has just passed out after a three hour witching hour screaming session. Very much hoping this means he'll have a good night but that's probably wishful thinking ;)
