I hope it helps!!
Thanks. It seemed a little better last night.
I hear you on the shopping anxiety. I too am avoiding going out. It seems too hard and scary. Im sure once I do it a few times ill be right though ....
Any settling tips?
We are really struggling with it at the moment. I get anxious come afternoon time worrying whether she will settle at night or not. It can't help the situation but Ican't help it. She went from such a good little sleeper to an over tired and colicy bub. I'm worried I'm doing a bad job.
Jane - Have you tried a dummy? We sometimes have to use it, but Nyah-Rose doesn't always take it. Also a bath can help. Nyah-Rose hasn't been sleeping deeply until around 11-11.30. I get anxious every afternoon too. But I generally shower her between 7-8.30 and that helps settle her for a bit. Does your little one like to be wrapped? Nyah-Rose does, and it also helps.
Bellany - Think I might look into online shopping for food, but I do need to go second hand shopping for winter clothes very soon. I'll wait until school goes back I think lol!!
Jane I'm sure you are doing an awesome job hun. Babies are hard work! We use a dummy sometimes to settle Dylan to sleep then take it out and pop him in bed - he spits the dummy out at some point anyway so we don't try keeping it in while he sleeps. Have you tried things like Infants Friend? Helps with wind pain and colic. Also not saying this could be it but maybe look at reflux symptoms just to cross that off the list? I thought Dylan was just a non-sleeper that was super unsettled but turns out he has silent reflux :(
Bellany you are superwoman!! I'm struggling with one bub and a toddler, still yet to go "out" with them both!
Kass that's great that you're getting six hour blocks! My 2.5 year old has started fighting naps too - she only does 1.5 hrs but she doesn't cope if she skips it so I'm persisting with it! I've found shifting it from 1230pm to 1pm helped.
Well Dylan is still not sleeping much, 45 min naps during the day and rarely more than 2-2.5 hrs at night. Still a booby monster too, he's obsessed! I'm surviving but it's definitely tough. We are off to the clinic to weigh him shortly so will see if all the hard work is paying off!
I'm feeling much better in terms of recovering from my tears/epi. Still get sore if I'm on my feet too much but so much better now at 4.5 weeks than at 2 weeks! Am having major loss of wind control though, which is very embarrassing and I hope it's sorted soon. Apparently it can be related to a nerve that takes time to recover. 6 week check with OB next week so will see what he says...
Thanks girls.Just feel like I'm second guessing myself all the time.
Have tried the dummyt but Isla generally refuses it. On occassion she will take it so we will persist with offering it.
We wrap her for sleeps. Although our technique needs improving. Double wrapping seems to help.
She could have silent reflux - has only ever thrown up once, constantly has the hiccups, wakes ubruptly as though in pain and in generally just wants to be held and feed - well she is a growing girls - 2cm growth in the first 2 weeks - crikey.
It helps to hear what other bubs are doing. Mrs P, Isla and Dylan seem to have similar sleeping patterns. Perhaps my expectations of her and us have been too high.
Bellany - Feeling your pain hun re lack of sleep and Dh's return to work
Kass - I dont know how you juggle so much - superwoman! I'm anxious with just 1 kid. Youre doing amazingly.
Mrs P - How did the clinic app go? Glad your healing well. I know what you mean about the wind issue. Thatt has only just resolved for me although the scares / stitches are still causing me grief.
Does anyone else feel guilty about how the broken sleep effects your DH / DP? Mine is looking run down and aweful. I feel terrible about it. Perhaps I'mputting unrealistic expectations on myself again.
The clinic was shut when it was supposed to be open! I was so annoyed as its an effort to get two kids in the car and go somewhere!
Jane I feel bad for DH but he's already managed to switch off and rarely wakes up! What is working well for us is DH settles Dylan after his feed around 830/10ish so I feed him and go to bed. Means I may actually get up to 3 hrs straight sleep before he wakes for the next feed. Sometimes he just holds him on the couch and watches tv, he'll usually stay up til 11-12 that way he still gets 6-7 hrs sleep himself. On weekends he's happy for me to wake him during the night if I need help. I know I felt bad with DD about waking him but this time I have no hesitation because an unhappy stressed mummy is no good for anyone.
Mrs P - how annoying about the clinic - Grrrrr. Good advice re the Dh situation. One other question. What are you doing to help Dylan with his silent reflux? I'm beginning to think more and more that this is what Isla is struggling with.
I suspected silent reflux right before Easter, having googled it after seeing something on BB, and realizing he had so many of the symptoms.
Saw my brilliant GP ASAP after Easter and just told her I thought that's what he had due to xyz. I also told her he seemed different to my DD as she had the wind pain but not other symptoms hence I knew it wasn't just wind. She said we could put him on Losec or wait and see - I chose the Losec option (it decreases acid production so it stops the pain). He's been on it since Tuesday last week. Only had one major screaming-in-pain session since then. Other things we are doing is trying to elevate head end of the bassinet, keeping him upright for a little bit after feeds, using Infants Friend etc to try to help get rid of wind. I was told by a pharmacist that the bodies response to wind is to produce more acid. So wind seems to be an important factor.
Sleep is still not really improved but I'm hopeful (praying!!) it will soon!
Oh and GP said there's no side effects from the Losec and that he would need to be on it for a good couple of months to be sure if it was working or not.
So this is where we hang out now :hello:
:hide: I've been a stranger to this place... Hope everyone is well & having lots of bubba cuddles :sling3:

Hi ladies, sorry I haven't popped in much. 4 little ones has been keeping me super busy. I have a silent refluxer here too. She rarely vomits but you can see the milk come up her throat and then she chokes or coughs on it. She makes the suck back sound as it goes up her throat and she grunts and squirms in her sleep. She is badly congested from the reflux too. She's a pain in the neck to feed because she fusses and arches the whole time. We had a horror couple of weeks were she was impossible to settle and never slept but we've had a much better week this week, she has been settling better and sleeping better. I pretty much carry her around all day in the carrier though. We went to the doctor and they told us to try infant gaviscon which we did but she hasn't pooped since we tried it so I have stopped it now. Hoping that means she'll poo again soon. Hoping the doctor will prescribe losec when we go back.
So how is everyone going?
We are nearly at 6 weeks. Already. Time has gone so fast!! She's sleeping awesomely from 10.30-11.30 through til 5-7am. So I can't complain, and I'm so thankful because with 4 other kids to look after and a house to run, I need as much sleep as possible!! I have found a few things I can't eat, that give her really bad wind, and that's bananas, and pancakes lol. I have no idea why pancakes, but they make us both windy lol. But there's also the obvious things I'm avoiding, onion, cabbage, chilli, curries and so on. She's getting so big so fast!!
I'm getting used to going out now, so it's getting slightly easier lol. And I'm trying to time it to her feeds, so I'm doing ok. I'm eating like crazy still, and if I forget or get too busy with Nyah-Rose I eat what's in front of me, be it biscuits or chips or lollies....I really have to stop doing that!!! And drink more water.
Anyway, better go shower and get some sleep, as Nyah-Rose has dropped off. Hope you're all doing well and all your bubbas are sleeping nicely. :)
Hi, just wanted to introduce myself.
DS was born on the 21st march 3weeks early due to uncontrollable blood pressure, again!
Having lots of issues feeding and I also suspect silent reflux :( have you little ones just been diagnosed by a regular GP?
We are bottle/formular feeding due to me having no maternal connection to DS I expressed up until now but just feel like I can't go on, my supply was dropping away as well. But it's ok, I don't feel sad, I kinda feel relieved
.
How are you all with partners who work managing night time feeding/sleeping? Here we are in a routine of DH does last and first feeds, I do the two in between.
And those with other children, how do you manage to spread your time around? My DD3 I feel is feeling a little neglected :(

Hi lisa, welcome to thr group. Been a bit quiet in here lately, everyone must be flat out busy, i know i am.
Congrats on your little boy. Sorry to hear about your feeding issues. I suspect my little isla has silent reflux too. Im going to talk to the gp about it next week.
In terms of managing night time with a working husband. We tend to go to bed early, whenever she goes down (9ish) then she sleeps through to 330 ish and then again til 6/7 ish. So i try not to wake him, but sometime you just need help, and for my own sanity ive learned its ok to ask for help when you need it.
Kass sounds like you have an awesome sleeper there. Yay!
Afm, isla is doing well, but seems to have a pattern of having wee and poo explosions at 3am. For the last few nights ive had to bath her, redress and remake the bed at 3 in the morning. Am wondering whether all this leakage means i should try the next size up nappy? Im using huggies. Any advice?
double post
Jane - BabyLove have a poo explosion catcher lol. Maybe give those a try, they've helped with Nyah-Rose sometimes lol.
Lisa - Welcome. My partner sleeps in the lounge room, on a mattress. His choice lol. But he needs sleep. So it's better for us. However Nyah-Rose seems to sleep thru from 11 until 6 or 7am. So I'm pretty thrilled about that.
We are in Gladstone ATM, did our first road trip yesterday. And Nyah-Rose was really good. We stopped every 3 hours for a feed, play in the park and leg stretches lol. We go home Sunday, so lets see if its as good on the way home. :)
