Babies born ~ May 1st-15th 2011 #1

Hi Eveyone

Still here just very busy and not much chance to get on to BB, but still reading all the updates.

We have a sick house at the moment, DH thought he was getting a cold early in the week so then DD got it plus a bit of an upset tummy as well. So of course the boys got it as well, Rhys has the cold and Liam had the upset tummy but I thought I had missed it but last night I felt horrid and today not much better so going to head to the chemist to get something to help.

DH is back at work on Monday but my niece will be here for the weke to help out which is great. DD will miss DH since he has been home for 5 weeks but I can tell you that I am looking forward to him going back to work as having him home is a help with the kids but he definately makes a lot of mess and I feel like I'm forever tidying up after everyone.

As for injections, we get them done at 8 weeks... I have my 6 weeks checkup on Wednesday which is good as after all this time I'm now getting pain at my c/s scar, it might just be because everything inside is now getting smaller to fit back into place but I haven't had any discomfort post c/s until now. Obviously it doesn't help feeling sick as well. So Wednesday is a very busy day for us as I've got back to back appt's for me and the boys all day so it will be interesting trying to juggle feedings in as well but at least I can leave them in their capsules and prop a bottle up to feed them. Oh I've also started Liam on Infant Gaviscon to see if this helps with his reflux as he is now getting very upset when he is sick - especially when it comes out his nose - so fingers crossed it helps.

Anyway, I'm going to jump in the shower before I have to start about doing DD's lunch.

Kelly you are doing an amzaing job. Thats nice that your niece will be coming down for the week. I have been worried about Bree catching the cold, DD1 bought it home and passed it to DH and DD2, I think DS is also getting it. I have escaped it so far, touch wood. I refuse to let anyone else feed or cuddle Bree until they stop coughing and both DD's are spending a lot of time in their room playing, or the family room, to try and contain it. Bree has been a bit snotty, but she has been like that since birth so I don't think thats a cold. She has been unsettled but we are finding that she usually settles well about 15 minutes after giving her mylanta. She is quite happily laying in her bassinet at the moment. I haven't tried the infacol or gaviscon that I have heard mentioned.
I think I will now wait until 8 weeks for the injections too, just to make sure that she is well enough and hopefully by then she is feeding well too.

BBB Wow 8cm, that BM is working it's magic. I was saying to DH the other day how Bree is very short compared to Jacob. She seems to be growing wider rather than longer lol. Congratulations on getting your 5 hourly sleep at night, that IS awesome! :D

Dragonbub How do you manage carrying your bub? I have thought about getting one of those strap things (can't think of what they are called - baby brain) so I can carry Bree rather than put her in the pram. But she loves the pram. eg. She was screaming in the car for a feed yesterday, she was due, but when I got her out and into the stroller, she fell asleep. I wonder if carrying her would have the same effect?
I struggle to fit everything in the car. I have a wagon with a ****ie seat in the back, but because I have gas on the car, I also have the spare wheel in the back (well it's actually in the garage at the moment), so adding the stroller to that too, it makes it difficult to get DS in and out of the seat etc. Without the spare wheel there, I can fit the stroller in flat and still have room for DS to step past it, otherwise the stroller has to be on it's side right up against the seat. In my infinte wisdom I thought to myself, well we'll just have to run the car on petrol, as if then we would be able to store the spare wheel back under the car where the gas tank is LOL - gotta love that baby brain.
So anyway, the next best thing I could think of was to carry her with one of those supports eliminating the need to take the stroller. However, I have already pulled muscles in my back from nursing Bree, so I don't know how I would go carrying her around like that.
Ok, I'll stop rambling now lol

I have a baby carrier support thing given to me by a friend but Jacobs legs don't seem chubby enough for it, I dunno you can come give it a try GG and see if you like it, i'm not really into it. I think cos both our bubs were early, 8 weeks is prob better vaccines too, where are you going for them? Hope your clan are well soon GG!

We went out today with Jared's family who are visiting from Sydney and I took some frozen EBM, by the time I got home my boobs were sooo hard and full that I expressed 150ml in 5min just to relieve some pressure and Jacob still got a good feed off them straight after!

KellyD, a sick family AND newborn twins, you've got it tough girl, you are an amazing mummy!!

Phoebe had her needles last week and she was so brave. Only a little cry. She now weighs 4.85kg (bare weight) and is 58cm long. So I have another long girl here :) She is having some trouble with wind lately and screams when I put her down. It gets annoying when I have to hold her all day so I'm buying a Close Carrier from Feeb.

KellyD - wow you are having a rough trot atm. Hope things pick up for you soon.

Sorry have to go, Phoebe is crying again and only seems to settle when I'm holding her.

chloes rash was clearing up so well last week, and now we are home and today it has flared right up again :( tyring a laundry powder change, was using omo powder, changing to purity liquid. also ive been wearing a wooly jacket while feeding etc so maybe that is causing her to flare up? its around her neck and a little on her chest now, we are due for 6 week check up on thursday so will see what gp says.

Bern - I find the heat stirs up Rivers rash and if he has chucked a bit and the milk is on his face (although it looks clean the milk still stirs up the bacteria). He has it his chest and back too.

Kim - wtg on the needles with your brave girl. I will be getting them done at 8 weeks too I suppose. Seems we are a group with koala babies but I think that is an age thing. Tyhey do like being close to mummy which is nice but a bit hard going to the loo one handed :)

BBB - thaTS the thing with ebm. Everyone says to express to give yourself the night off but you still end up in pain! I am glad you relieved the pressure.

Gemini - I have an ergo which allows me two hands free and carries him upright and a sling that is abit harder with one hand but easier to put on when R is asleep and he can lie lots of ways, I can even feed him in it. I love them both and take at least one of them everywhere. Tyhey are almost guaranteed to get him to sleep especially when out in public.

KellyD - agreed, yoe ARE doing an amazing job hun! Bummer about the C sec scar babe, hoping it is as you say just the moving of everything back in place.

AFM - went to a wedding on Saturday with R. C didnt come cos kids weren't allowed but R was of course ;). He was brilieant in the car going up but screamed a bit when we left and we had to pull over. He was right after that though and was fine the next day when we had a family lunch. I am hoping he is getting used to it a bit.

Bern - Brianna has a similar thing going on. I was really concerned until I noticed that it got worse when she kept moving her head looking for food, her clothes rub on her chest and top of her back. She also gets it on the side of the face from sleeping. I have a cloth nappy under her incase she vomits. I have stopped using nappy san to see if that helps. I can't remember which washing powder I use because when I bought it I tipped it into the bucket container I have from the previous washing powder. Brianna also gets a pimply thing going on and I have bought baby butter, expensive, but it works well, it's non greasy.

OMG Brianna is screaming for a feed, she has started a new trend of feeding 2 hourly during the day and 4-5 hourly at night...

KellyD - like others have said, you are doing fab. I started getting sick last week, had the sorest throat and was almost i tears thinking of trying to look after B feeling this awful, but thankfully it only lasted a day. But DH now has it and its lasting longer, but B hasn't got it. Must be good milk I've got protecting his immune system :)

gg - I have a tyion sling which is a soft wrap sling and its so comfy for both of us, DH likes to wear it too. He never really liked it in the cradle position, but he loves the upright position, guaranteed sleepytime and so much easier than getting the pram in and out of the car. I think we've only taken the pram to the shops once.

BBB - wow 150ml in 5 mins and I was proud to get 120ml in 40mins!

Bern - is that still the hormone rash or a rash rash? B still has the hormone rash and seems to flare up more after the chucks up or has been chucking a tanty.

Kim - yay for havinbg needles out the way. I am dreading getting B's, I think I might stick him on the boob, it's supposed to be good as its soothes them and I guess distracts them?

AFM - weighed B on the Wii this morning and he's 5.2kg! it will be interesting to see what he is next week at the CHN appt. Has anyone been or will be going to a mothers/parents groups? I went to go this arvo but the chn that came out when B was 10 days gave me the wrong time, so I missed it this morning. Wondering if I should bother going. He's still sleeping well at night, but yesterday I had him in the sling most of the day so he slept a lot and woke up at 5 instead of 6:30am... so now will need to work out whether we have him sleep a little less during the day to get more overnight or put him down a bit later? (We had been having 11-6ish so have also thought about putting him down earlier and then "dreamfeeding" him at 11 to get more night sleep...). Maybe we shouldn't be too greedy :)

Sorry I've been quiet for a bit, my husband has been on holidays and we have been busy around the house doing landscaping.

I've had a quick read through the posts, and it sounds like everyone is doing a fabulous job!

Porsche: What city are you in? Have you found some friends to support you, even just for a coffee date and chat?

Gemini Girl: Welcome to the group :) I have very sensitive skin and so does Amelia. I use Aware washing powder for sensitive skin. It's got no petrochemicals in it, and can be used in a front loader. I then use Earth Choice softener. You do have to look for them on the shelf though as not all shops stock them, and they are often either very high, or very low on the shelf.

Dragonbub: Thanks for the idea of the movement monitor. I have been lucky that at night Amelia settles on her back by herself. IT's only in the day she sleeps on her tummy, and only ever when I can supervise.

Melly Belly: I've been using Pigeon Breast Milk Bags to store milk in the freezer. They allow the milk to freeze quicker, and also heat quicker then in convential bottles. With my first baby I used the Avent Via system, but these are bulky in the freezer, and take a long time to defrost.

AFM: Amelia is sleeping well at night now, and I'm able to put her into ther bassinet awake and she puts herself to sleep with no fuss (a god send given our first few weeks had me convinced I'd be a couch sleeper for a while). We still have the odd screaming fit from her, but generally from gas. She has taken to crying when we sit on the couch though, and this can be frustrating for my husband. I've also decided against a dummy, so at times I'm comforting her with the breast, but it works for us so I'm happy.

I've also been spending time looking for a job and working out when I'm going to go back to work. I was made redundant at 36 weeks, and whilst I want to stay off work till mid september, but the finances are dictating otherwise.

I'm heading to bed now, gotta sleep when Amelia is in bed or I don't get a chance to catch up.

Farmgirl - wow landscaping thats awesome! We are in a new house so still have heaps to do and a new bub has stalled most projects. Well done on Amelia settling herself. The work situation is hard isn't it? I would love all of next year off but keep telling myself that I dont have to go back full time straight away. Its just that I am the main income earner and earn twice as much as DH which makes it a bit hard to justify, but DH is very supportive of me having time off.

Melly - wow sounds like a chubba bubba, wtg :) My lill guy is about 5.3kg or so but will weigh him Thursday at the checkup. Yes I think you are being greedy (kidding ;)) enjoy it hun! I have asked about mothers group so would like to go. I moved after having Caden and I just adore my MG with him. However it is harder to catch uo these days as we are an hour drive away, and they are such great friends with Caden that I would like the same network for River.

Gemini - sounds like a growth spurt. You feel like you are being milked dry and in a few days when its over your (.)(.)s will be too full!

AFM - both Caden and River have the flu :(. Poor lil tykes. They both have temps and R really struggles to breath through hus nose which makes feeds difficult. It upsets his tummy too and he spent last night sleeping in my arms or farting and pooing. His lil bot is so red :(. I have a bit of a sore throat too eek! So many people around us lately have had it, I just wish River could have avoided it.

Oh - does anyone's bub have a swollen nipple? Rivers lefty is swollen and a hard lump inside. I think it is from the estrogen during birth but thought it should have gone by now. It doesn't seem to hurt him though. Y?et another thing to ask the doc about on Thursday :rolleyes:

:( all Bree's milk comes from the bottle... I have her on formula. Which is suppose to keep them fuller for longer... :-?

dragonbub - yes chloe had swollen nipples with the lump, completely normal. not sure if she still has it will check in the morning and let you know :)

melly - chloes rash is still like the little pimples but like millions of them, its now on her chest. im assuming its still the hormone rash and hoping its not a rash rash. am seeing gp on thursday for checkup and will get him to assess it. also need to get referal for ultrasound on chloes hips as DD1 has hip dysplasia and its hereditary, so need to make sure her hips are great.

as for feeding chloe has a feed around about 1030 - 1100pm ish and then sleeps till about 5, then sleeps till about 9. Is everyones bubs still sleeping heaps? when do they start being more alert? cant remember much of how things are as its been 5 yrs between babies lol.

Farmgirl I'm in Ipswich. No Haven't found any friends. LOL I sound like a nigel no friends. I'm popping into work for a little visit so that gets me out of the house today plus my 6 week check up. I went and saw my sister on Monday so that helped as well but she is an hour drive away and not really close by. Just dealing with being stuck at home. I'm getting used to the idea. I'm glad Amelia is sleeping well at night. It means you can cope with thngs better during the day. That's what I've found anyway. Good luck with the job hunt. I hate looking for work. Hope someting pops up for you.

I haven't had a chance to catch up on all your replys lol. I will read through when I have a moment L is starting to get fussy now. She had her needles yesterday. Poor poppet. She cried and then I cried . I hate hearing her cry like that. I keep telling myself it's all for the best lol.

Porsche I know I will cry too when it is Bree's turn for her needles. It makes the heart feel very heavy doesn't it.

Bern - Bree could be sound asleep, but as soon as dinner is served, she starts screaming until she gets picked up and bought to the table with us. She is such a sticky beak and wants to learn all about food already, smelling it is not quite enough for her, she needs to see it lol Her face expression is so funny, it's like she is looking for solids already... Anyway I guess what I was getting to was that I don't thing Bree sleeps soundly during the day, she still has an awareness of what is going on to some degree. She also has her snuggly times, where she wants to sleep in our arms, and as soon as we try to put her down, she screams, even though she seemed sound asleep before attempting to put her down to bed.

So, it's official, I found "sleep in a bottle". Stomach Calm by Brauer. We gave 0.5ml to Bree last night as Mylanta seems to have lost its touch. So she had a bottle at 7:20pm after having a bath and the Stomach Calm, and slept until 4:30am, back to sleep by 5am until 9am sleeping soundly, and her feeding and burping was great... I just wish that she could have told me of her plans for a long sleep, I would have made sure I was in bed right after her... doh

BBB Will have to catch up with you soon - when this weather settles a little maybe !

Hello to all the other new mummies in here.

Hope everyone is enjoying newborn cuddles with their little ones. I love being a mum, Im so lucky that I have a happy and healthy bub. Since all the babies are a little older than my baby you can tell what fun things are in store!

I see most of you are getting the 2 month vaccinations. Do I just book into the GP for this? Do I need to wait until bub has seen the paed for her 6 week app?

Welcome Summertime! I don't mind if you join our group, kinda makes sense really since you shared your pregnancy with us. I just book into the doctors for the 2 month needles. I don't have a paed, never needed one, so my kids just go to the local medical centre who have been my doctors since I was conceived. How's bub going?

Porsche: I live in Strathpine, about 25 mins north of Brisbane. If you are ever in need of someone for a coffee and a chat, I'd be more then happy to keep you company. I too find being an at home mum a bit isolating. It can be daunting to get out and meet new people when you have a new bub in tow. Even though I have my family and friends around me, they all work, and so I feel very alone during the week. I even find myself hanging around at daycare just to get some 'adult' conversation time.

AFM: Well I'll be volunteering at the Brisbane Baby Expo on Saturday to help promote the Friends of the Birth Centre and teach women about their birthing options. I'm really looking forward to sharing my experiences, and getting out of the house for a while. Amelia will be coming with me, and I'm hoping she'll just sleep in the baby bjorn.
I took Amelia to the doctors on Tuesday night. She wasn't feeding for more then about 30 secs all day, hadn't done a poo since Monday morning, and was having constant bouts of screaming. The doctor checked her out and she was still well hydrated, so he wasn't too concerned, just colicky he thought. She fed better on Wednesday, but still no poo. And yesterday she fed and slept well, and at lunch she let it all out (with a grin on her face I might add). Honestly, not even two nappies could have caught what was waiting for me in her pants. I conceded defeat and just stripped her off and put her in the bath. Needless to say she has been a much happier baby overnight. I managed to get another four bags of EBM into the freezer over this time too which is good. I need to get the stocks up for when I return to work.

Gemini-Girl: Is the stomach calm something for reflux or wind? I don't find Infacol does much so I'm looking for an alternative to that and Gripe Water. I also found with Amelia that putting her down on her tummy helps her to sleep when she has a sore tummy. Apparantly the pressure on their tummy is comforting.

Bern: I thought it was around the six week mark that they become more alert. Amelia has a very definite alert state, generally after a good sleep and then a feed. She looks to us for a facial response and when we smile back, her little face lights up. This lasts for probably 10-15mins, and then she starts looking away and disengaging.

Dragonbub: I hear you on the income story. I'm in the same position, and the government allowance just doesn't cut it. (not complaining about the scheme, just about my situation). Whilst I don't want to be an at home mum forever, I also don't want to be rushed back to work just because of money. I guess I just need to find a happy medium. What are your plans for returning?

Gotta go, the little guy wants to look up the circus to see if we can afford to go. Happy cuddles:)

morning ladies,

ive got a sick little 5 yr old, shes been up vomitting all night :( Chloe was a little whingy last night after her needles but other than that she was good. fed every 2 hours though so have had a crap nights sleep.

I have noticed we get little smiles etc and eye contact the last week so yep the 6 week mark for them being more alert.

Summertime - welcome back to our group - like farmgirl said you were a part of the pregnancy group so it makes sence for you to join us :) and really whats a week n a bit difference in sharing our baby journey....

Chloes rash has cleared up heaps, GP wasnt worried about it. But he is making us get an ultrasound on her hips as one legs has 2 thigh creases and the other has 3. My Tianna has hip displasia and he picked that up by her having uneven thigh creases. And as its a hereditry thing he wants to just get the ultrasound done for our peace of mind. Im not too worried though cause the creases line up there is just an extra crease.

best go give Tianna some mummy loving.

Hi Girls

Well it looks like my boys are getting over the worst of the colds as they have picked up on eating again, so much so that Liam can now finishe his bottle in 10-15mins when before he was sick it would take him up to an hour to feed and we've been getting smiles here for the past week or so. Liam seems a bit more ahead of Rhys but it is so nice to get some positive reactions from them now.

They both had weigh in's yesterday with the MCHN - we don't see the pead for another 3 1/2 weeks as Liam still has some scans to get done - and Rhys now weighs 4115grams (1.485kg increase since birth) and Liam 4050grams (1.28kg increase since birth) so both boys are doing really well in the weigh stakes. I also had my 6 week check up on Wednesday and took the boys to show them off, it is really sad now that I won't be seeing my Ob/IVF girls anymore as the twins will be our last babies. I've been dealing with them all for the past 3 1/2 years during our TTC journey and pregnancies and now that is all over, we will even be sending a consent to the IVF clinic as well to destroy our last remaining embryo's which is sad in a way but we know that it is just not viable for us to use them and see what happens - we have 3 left - as if they all worked then 6 kids is just not possible for us.
