Oh no, hope they're both on the mend very soon Nikky - sick kids aren't fun especially this little.
Sweetpea have you tried holding her laying along your arm face down with her head in your hand, feet at your elbow - DD used to get wind pain and the pressure on her tummy used to really help, especially if she was rocked like that? Windy bellies do suck for the poor little mites :(
Back with the TMI for a sec for me - I think my stitches are starting to dissolve or something, that or it's just the healing process itself, but jiminy cricket it's flipping itchy as all hell tonight! Have had a quick salt bath, rinse and am now sitting on an ice-pack as it's driving me barmy :rolleyes:
Alex is doing awesome but I keep having to remind DD that it'll be ages before he does much more than just feed/sleep - she so badly wants to play with him, I try to keep her as involved as possible but am going to wait till his head control is better before she can change him etc.

Ack Lilly seems to have conjuntivitus, where did she get that from :( Oh well breastmilk wiping until it heals, hopefully I caught it soon enough.
Thanks sweetpea, gripe water or infacol might help? I second the tummy pressure, even tummy time tends to help Lilly when she is in pain like that.
Lol Dan I've been bra free for 2 weeks now I can't find anything that dosent cut into my boobs and make them get big lines and annoy them.
Lilly has been cluster feeding since 7:30pm, making up for lost time perhaps? Put her down in her bassinet this time to try and get a break, her sleeping on me means she wakes every hour becuase she has close access I think haha

Heh, maybe Lolpigs...though Alex does the cluster-feeding thing around that time of evening too, sometimes starting a bit earlier (which makes dinner time for me a bit tricky) but it does tend to mean he sleeps better overnight thankfully. Hopefully she'll get herself nice and full for a good night's sleep for you!
DD had a devil of a time with conjunctivitis though that was once she started daycare. Sometimes they do just get gunky eyes, so long as you're keeping it clean and only using a cotton wool pad once should clear up soon enough.
Little Mister was incidentally more than a little over-baked after all, his skin is all peeling off on his belly and around his neck at the moment, looks awful but my mum says it clears up relatively quickly.

Well we had sleep on an off tonight, however my husband fed her some formula at 12:30 feed becuase she just wasnt settling after that one. I guess my supply just isnt up there yet, but is getting there.
At least we had some success today so that is something I guess?

Hello :)
Jess slept last night and no screaming. So relieved, didn't think I could take another night like that in a row. She did a 4 hour stretch and a 2 hour stretch. Though DS then woke up and was sick. Vomiting, coughing, runny nose. DH is at the doctor with him now. I hope he gets better quickly and I'm nervous managing the two of them tomorrow when he is so sick.
I've changed the bottles and the formula so I'm hoping it helped her. Though I've read with colic the test is 3 hours crying a day for 3 days a week and for 3 weeks or more. I'm hoping it was just some gas and nothing more.

Waiting for Alex to wake up so I can change/feed him before we have to take DD to nippers...but he's still asleep! Might have to pop him in the car without the change and feed and hope for the best....

Sounds like what my DD gets in the evening Sweetpea. She also gets really unsettled and cries before a big BM for some reason. I guess she doesnt like how it feels haha.
Only had to do a 30ml comp so far today. Much better than every feed. I'm going to pump now and hope bubs stays asleep till 1... keep your fingers crossed for me :D
Lilly's conjunctivitis is already better. go go breastmilk!

Well after a good night hoping today keeps up lol.
Went through his draws and got rid of all 0000 and pink items I had been given. Empty draws now lol. Hanging out to go shopping lol.

LOL I need more 0000 stuff, I bought mostly 000 thinking bubs would be big like the rest of the babies in the family.. nope!
She is currently using a rotation of about 10 jumpsuits and some singlets haha, she needs to get chubbier

Can't believe we had to go out the day after we got home to buy more long sleeved stuff - was colder than I thought it'd be this time of year. Warming up now so the little onesies are coming out, and supposed to be hitting high 30's next week - think we're going to stay at home in the a/c!

We didn't have enough 0000 stuff. My mum went and bought a whole heap. I thought it was going to be cooler than it is and had a whole heap of bonds suits which have hardly been used. The 0-3 mth pumpkin patch stuff is too big for her too.
Sitting at the docs with DS. Poor little thing is so sick :(

DD fed at 9pm last night then went through to 2am was fed and back asleep in her bassinet by 3am and then went through to 5:30. Was happy I got 6.5hrs sleep.

Ahh I am jealous of you Danniim my little muffin had a feed last night at 11:30 and then it took DH and I til 1:30 to settle her and then she was awake for another feed at 3:30...

Bwahahaahahahahaa!!! Sitting on the couch with Alex sleeping on my chest, DH is watching some shoot 'em up movie and Alex opened his eyes, looked over at his dad with the biggest sneer on his face before going back to sleep - as if to say "geez dad, turn that noisy crap down I'm sleepin' here"

Mollie I certainly needed it, she has been keeping me up most nights since and including the night she was born. Some nights I've been running on 2-3 hrs it's tough going hey!?
Argh my boobs are so sore, well have been the last couple of days. I'm having to feed her in the football hold on the right side cos I've had a shocking blockage and feeding normally it was just not improving. It's pretty red as well but don't think it's at the stage of mastitis. Been having hot showers and giving it one heck of a massage with hot water running on it, the pain seems to be subsiding this afternoon with it so hopefully I've caught it in time.
Hope no one was looking over my front fence this arvo cos I had my boobies hanging out after a feed to give one awesome air dry.
Wonder how Amanda is going.
I've been a bit down the last couple of days with all the boobie problems with cracked blistered nipples now the blockage but it's so reassuring to get on here and read what you girls are up to.

Ok so I know that they say to feed 3 hrly night and day but seriously if she was feeding 1.5 hrly most of the afternoon it's alright to let her do her thing overnight right!? She fed at 7pm and went to 1am and now I'm feeding again at 4:30am.

I never did the 3 hour thing Danni...figured when she screams and starts trying to find my boob then she was hungry and I fed her then :)

I never did the 3hrly thing either, rather just feed when he's hungry - he starts sucking his hands and bobbing his head around well before he cries so I usually feed him then. Last night was constant feeds from 5-7pm, short break for my dinner while he had a little nap then big feed at 9pm, 1am, 3.30am and now at 7am.
He also seems to have developed a talent for waiting for the precise moment when I undo his nappy to check him to get me with a sneaky pee! And has pretty good aim too I must say :)

Yeah same, everyone says you have to wake her but I figure if she's hungry she will tell me. Lilly does the same CK. Latley we have had to wait with the opened nappy on just in case, otherwise we end up with a large wet patch on the change table LOL
:hug: Dan, I hope you are feeling better soon. I hated having the blisters they were awful. I was really bad and popped them too LOL I'm terrible with that sort of stuff.
WEW our 4am feed is offically bottle free :D /dances now just another 7 or so feeds to go.
We got a snazzy Medela Calma bottle with my Medela Swing as a free gift, and it seems to be getting her to prefer booby more. It has this funky design that mimicks let down and pauses the flow and doen't give any liquid unless she sucks to a certain pressure. It's been really good. She's much better on the boob now.
Sad though with BLA she still can't self attach. Anyone have any ideas why that would be?

I got 7 hours sleep last night yay!!
Was sick last night, called the hospital health line. Feeling better this morning, went to Drs he gave me the all clear.
Had my first work visit, was out for nearly 2 hours. No crying.
I'm back in my pre baby clothes already, makes me realize how much water you hold lol.

AM yay for 7 hrs sleep, bummer you were sick last night though.
Glad others are of the same thought of not waking a sleeping baby.
I always help bub attach lolpigs just to make sure she's attached properly.

Yippee, got Alex's appt with the health nurse for a home visit this afternoon - now to hope he's actually awake for it :)
I'm back into most of my normal clothes, which is awesome - haven't jumped on the scales yet though. Currently doing a bit of online christmas shopping while Mister has his morning snooze.

I just had my vist with the community nurse just now CK. Lilly has put on 280g in 8 days and passed all her tests hooray! She was supportive of what I was doing with BF too. I was relieved. I was preparing for a guilt trip.
Also, we just had another feed, no bottle... I feel like we are gaining momentum. Only had to comp 30ml formula today and the other was EBM. Wew!
Aww I'm jealous, My belly is so flabby after the C/S, its slowly getting smaller but enforced no exercising for 6 weeks blows to get rid of it. At least I can BF to eat up extra calories hehe :)
Dan, yeah me too, I was just reading the ABA thing on BLA and she just can't do it on her own poor dear just dosent seem to know how to attach unless I do it for her. Was just wondering.

I dunno about losing any weight with the BFing considering how much I'm eating at the moment! I'm constantly ravenous, or if I'm not starving I'm thirsty. I do try to make sure it's healthy stuff and water mostly though. Be interested to see how much Alex has put on, because I swear he feels heavier every morning.

HELLO LADIES! Have been rather MIA, sorry, hospital didnt have internet reception and then took a little bit of time to just settle at home!

SO, little bit of a run down of what happened on thursday!!
So, the hosptial had called to cancel my induction cos they were so busy- i was so annoyed, but then started getting tummy pains and wondered if it could be labour, eventually they got to being quite regular and painful and i was SO happy that my body seemed to actually be going into labour on its own! But yeah, the feeling of contractions wasnt exactly like what i expected, it was more like this tight band accross the lower part of my tummy and it came really quick and painful and was basically like getting one of those awful leg cramps in the middle of the night that take your breath away! thats the best way i can describe it... and yeah progressively more painful! I was expecting a more dull ache i think!
Stayed at home till 6pm when the contractions were 3 mins apart then went to the hospital where they said i was already 4cm dilated, woo!! waters broke probably an hour later and they like, flooded the floor, and every step i took another massive puddle would come out! After that happened they got really strong and so we jumped in the shower where i stayed for maybe another 2 hours, where i was finding the pain almost unbearable, i was screaming through most contractions and unfortunately was so overwhelmed by it all that i didnt think to ask for the gas... anyway not long after i was screaming that i needed to push - the pressure was SO strong, and i had read that was what it felt like when it got to the pushing stage, but the midwife seemed skeptical cos it had gone so fast, anyway, got on to the bed, babys heartrate had dropped so they had a whole lot of people in there, electrode on babys head and yeah, fully dilated! So, i tried the gas cos the pain was so bad, but they took it away from me cos it made me to dopey and i couldnt concentrate on pushing.. from there, the rest was really quite traumatic, the pain of pushing her out was unbelievable, and i was screaming and begging for an epidural or c-section which i knew wasnt possible but i felt i couldnt bear the pain of pushing her out... DH said it was really hard for him too cos i was begging him to somehow help and he felt so helpless. but in the end i finally heard them say they said her eyes were out, then her whole head, then her shoulders, then the rest of her body came out really fast and they put her on my chest and yeah it was the most amazing feeling, DH was crying, i think i was too shocked at it all to cry! it was the most incredible pain ever, the pushing part, and i got some bad tearing, so much so that it took them about an hour and a half of stitching me up and the dr lost count of the number of stitches.. all these doctors were watching the stitching to learn from it, cos it was apparently a bad shape tear, or should i say several tears! i used the gas before they stitched me up cos i was scared of the local anaesthetic, and i completely tripped out on the gas cos it was up as high as it could go! oh and by the way, after the delivery, someone brought me in some toast with jam and a cup of tea and DH fed me the toast - it was like the BEST thing i had ever eaten, hahah. i think ill remember that toast forever!
I feel a bit traumatised by it all, doing it with no pain relief, considering i am a pretty small build, and had a baby over 9pounds! turns out cos she was overdue that some of the areas in her skull that generally overlap thru the birth canal had already fused together so her head couldnt go smaller when she fitted through, like it normally would. hence some of the tearing was so bad.. but i am SO proud of myself, and i just love her SO much, and if i had to do it all again for her, i would in a second.
For my next baby, i think id defintely be getting an epidural!
i feel so many emotions at the moment, its hard to get my head around everything.. its unbelieveable how intense the love is for them so instantly! And i feel such an overwhelming feeling of just wanting to protect her from everything, she seems to tiny and helpless! i just look at her little face with her little eyes staring at me and i cant help but cry sometimes at how amazing she is and how unbelievable happy i am to have her..! i love her more than anything in the whole world, and feel like the luckiest person on earth :)
im recovering okay, the stitches have been really painful and thats probably been the worst part - also have some really bad muscle issues where the muscles have seperated badly - the physio thought about 8cm of seperation so my tummy looks gross at the moment, im just hoping with physio i can get it back to being flat again, or at least kinda flat haha.
breastfeeding is a bit of a challenge, she latches on really well etc, and my milk has come in fine from what i can tell, its just she falls asleep almost instantly when she starts sucking, and then if i try put her to bed, she cries cos she is hungry, and then i have to try feeding her again, and she falls straight to sleep, etc etc... so i guess its a bit of a slow process, trying to get her to feed properly!
I also kinda find it hard keeping her the right temperature, i really have to rug her up to sleep cos ive taken her temp and its around 35.6 sometimes, despite being in a singlet, long onesie, wrap and blanket tucked in.. its worrying cos SIDS guidelines say not to overheat them, but then she is too cold so easily! anyway, i called the hospital and they werent too concerned, they said just judge by how her hands and feet feel and dress her accordingly. so i guess thats something that ill get the hang of eventually too! she makes alot of noise in her sleep, gurgling, snuffling noises and its hard not constantly being awake all night checking on her!
ive got a midwife checking on us tomorrow or wedneday cos she lost almost 10% of her birthweight, which is apparently okay, but i hope that when they weigh her she has started to gain some weight.. i think its cos my milk hadnt come in yet that she was losing a bit, and now that it has, she should be fine!
ANyway a bit of a rollercoaster the last few days, ill try read through everyones comments and catch up on whats been happening with everyone! Thanks for all the well wishes in the Belly Buddies forum :) sorry everthing in this post is a bit of a jumble, its all a bit of a jumble in my head so i just typed it all as it came to me!

Wow, Amanda - you did so well hun! And she is absolutely gorgeous :) My midwife said a trick if they fall asleep too soon while feeding is to tickle them gently on the arm or the torso (but not the cheek as they'll try to turn towards it) or to sit her up and burp her then reattach etc. Though I'll admit, sometimes Alex still sleeps through all of the above - less often now though.

You did sooo well!! Natural on your first go!! My second birth was so much easier than my first so you will be fine next time. She is a big baby, I can't believe you pushed her out! 9 pounds!! I found the crowning to be the worst, that burning feeling. The head is so hard to get out, especially in your situation. It is an overwhelming love.
With the clothes, I go by the weather. It has been so variable here. We've had 36 degrees - short sleeve jumpsuit with muslin wrap (no blanket). 19 degrees - long sleeve jumpsuit/ bonds wondersuit, muslin wrap, cotton blanket double folded. 25 degrees - long sleeve jump suit, muslin wrap, single fold cotton blanket. Our house is mostly warm as we have large windows but is colder at night. Feeling the hands and feet does help as well as their chest.

We've had an unsettled day today. The Naan hasn't agreed with her as she was getting constipation. Back on to S26 Gold. A nurse from the hospital rang to check on how we were doing. It was so nice to have someone understand that she didn't attach, wasn't sucking and we had to go to formula. She was supportive, so different from the nurse that came for the home visit. She said that nurse was not professional giving me guilt trips especially when it was out of my control. I'll be going to a different clinic I think.

Well, appt with the nurse went well - he's put on just shy of 400g since we got home 8 days ago, the little guts! So he's regained birth weight and then some. The nurse was also pretty impressed with how well he's holding his head up and that he's giving us proper smiles, not just wind grimaces :) He's just such an awesome clever little man, I find him constantly fascinating and could watch him for hours.

Oh my, I weighed myself today and er... I have LOST over 9kgs!! and no, the 4kgs of Zoe is NOT included :P ... hehe
I didn't actually put any weight on while pregnant! So all that puking made me lose the 9kg! now to just keep it off and start getting rid of more of it!
Can't believe lil miss Z is 3 weeks old today :O ... seriously, wtf did that time go???
Oh and don't know if I told you girls or not, but got a phone call last week, and the kindergarten I wanted Harriett to go to, but she missed out and there were 8 people on the waiting list in front of HER!, anywho, they called and had a spot for her! So woohoo she is going to the one we wanted! So happy! wow, she starts that in Feb :O
Okies, Amanda, every time I read yr story my legs snap shut! ouch!

Dan Im not sure if you have tried it but the midwives gave me this cream for my nipples called Lansinoh - I had blisters on my nipples the first couple of days and after using that cream and letting them air dry they have gone away, plus you dont have to take the cream off when you feed bub... With the blockage you could also try cabbage leaves, its supposd to help, but not sure if it does or not....

Amanda - WOW! That is all I can say!!! As for the feeding I have the same thing with DD, I just take her off burp her, and she usually wakes up..
Well we have had a good day here today, Aubree fed at midnight, and then didnt wake for another feed til 5am... I freaked out a little, but my mum reassured me that its ok because she probably had a really good feed at midnight.. Ahh the joy/stress of been a first time mummy!
