AFM: we had a birthday party for one of Marta's little mates today. we had it at the eltham little train park (basically a cool mini train park with tunnels and mini replica train stations and crossings etc etc). the kids had a blast going around and around on it!! what a cool party!

can't keep up with everyone at the moment, but am very amused with the thought of Arte icing her pelvis - my husband would be VERY excited to find me all frosted and waiting for him - ha ha ha!! i remember how debilitating your pain was MD, and how long it went on for - you did so well to pull through it sane!!
afm - i have now officially reached my due date. there is no sign of the baby. i had a false alarm last sunday and ended up in hospital with suspected broken waters, but without any further leaking was sent home again. i am still 99% convinced that i lost a fair amount of amniotic fluid (i woke to a SOAKED bed at 5:30am, the fluid was clear and scent-free (quite pleasant smelling if anything), and continued to "leak" for about half an hour, but by the time i got to hospy i didn't lose any more fluid and haven't since, very odd...). anyway, the midwives and OB had me convinced by the time they sent me home that i must have just lost control of my bladder in my sleep, but when i came home and did a thorough inspection of my soggy sheets and pjs in a ball on the laundry floor (that were still sweet-smelling after festering there for 12 hours), and combined this with the fact that i was up for a wee at 2:30am and again when i woke at 5:30am (which was very yellow and concentrated), i am pretty sure it HAD to be amniotic fluid that i lost... anyway, i took a course of oral anti-biotics to avoid infection, and i'm glad that they didn't believe me because i would have ended up with a c-section because i'm strep-B positive (and my cervix was not approaching ripe - it was still hiding very high up and very tight)...
i have been having a few uncomfortable braxton hicks, but nothing excessively painful or regular, so think the baby is still a few weeks away (2 weeks of pre-labour with DD, and 3 weeks with DS)... of course i'm hoping this pregnancy is different to the others (quite possible), and i have very little pre-labour and wake up in a few days time with a little baby (not another 9lb 7oz one thanks) between my legs... wishful thinking, but i need to think that way to keep me sane at the moment!! my OB goes away on holidays on 30th Sept, so i hope to god i've had it by then so i don't have to start fighting his substitute dr to let me go post-dates... no one over here in perth EVER seems to go past 10 days OD - they all think the uterus explodes or the baby spontaneously combusts at that point for some reason...
anyway, it is 3:46am here and i have been up for a few hours so i should go and see if i can get another 2 hrs sleep before my dear little kiddies are up and about looking for some breakfast and to play Lego...

LMAO Ella, I have so much overhang it would be more of a filling than an icing!
A local lady just had her 4th bub - she usually goes to 42 weeks and has 10 pounders but this time she popped at 37 weeks and bub was only 7 pounds. Just a bit of hope for you :)

Thanks for A's birthday wishes! He had a great day - we had a small BBQ lunch with friends and their kids so it was very laid back.
G, be really vigilant with the ringworm treatment and keep it covered at all times - will be a PITA but it gets rid of it quicker. It can take 4-6 weeks to completely go though. E had one a few years back and we had to keep it covered so she could keep going to school otherwise she had to stay home.
Ella, it wont be too much longer now. No one has ever stayed pregnant forever LOL! I reckon you had a hindwater leak that just sealed itself over again.
hey trill, how does A like the leapster so far?
can i ask what you used to treat E's ringworm? the pharmacist gave me a tinea type cream but it doesn't seem to be doing much. i have also washed all their bedding and have taken the cat to the vet and gotten her ringworm tablets- she has no outward signs of ringworm but could be a carrier so I'm doing it just to be safe.
what do you mean by keep it covered at all times?
We tend to have a bit of fungus here from time to time, H had a bad one on her leg last year. Treated it by slathering on thick layer of canesten last thing at night - don't rub it in, but cover it with gladwrap or a non absorbent plastic-type dressing. In the morning take the plastic off, most of it will have absorbed over night. H's was quite bad but visibly better after a few days and gone completely in 10 days.
It will probably take a day or so to start looking better G. I used canesten on it at first but it didn't really respond - it looked like it was getting better then it got a bit worse again so we switched to Lamasil and it worked a treat. You just need to cover it with some gauze and tape it on or use an elastoplast bandaid that you can cut wide to fit over it. You will need to wash linen and towels everyday too.
ETA - he really loves his 'DS' LOL but he hasn't quite got the hang of it yet. I'm sure he'll be right into it in no time though.
trillian - which type of food colouring did you recommend that i use for the rainbow cake? i've told DH that he needs to make Abigail's cake if i am in hospital for her birthday, but i want to have all of the ingredients ready to go so that at least it's as easy for him as possible (or else he'll never agree to help with birthday cakes again!!)...
They were the wiltons brand ones - if you can't get them locally, check out ebay - I got mine from there and they were cheaper than anywhere else.

Trillian: aw man! i think i missed celebrating Mr A's Big Boy Birthday!!!! but i do wish him a happy birthday and a brilliant year ahead!! :happybirthday: Can you believe that it's only one more year before they start Big School??!!!!
AFM: well, on the school note, we did a tour of the local public primary as we will be away all next year so wanted to get in and have a look and let the principal know that we are interested (it's a *very* tiny public school and places are competitive). can i just say though that it was FABULOUS! school has changed alot since i went lol! there is alot more 'free learning' mixed in with the structure and there is a BIG emphasis on learning outdoors (so each classroom has a covered wooden deck leading off etc). this school even has a rock band room where the kids can learn rock band music lessons hahahaha! i can just imagine leila going sick on the drumkit hahaha!
on a more boring front....I am STILL sick :wall: i have NFI what to do anymore. burst out crying at like midnight last night as i am just so physically spent IYKWIM. my whole body is aching and I can barely get from A to B. have booked in (again!) with the GP. but TBH i dont know what to ask :dunno:. i guess i want him to now get in and investigate my immune system and see where all the weak points are...but can they even do that?

geez cass, i can't believe you're still sick! definitely a good idea to go back to gp. have you had any blood tests?
schools are totally cool now aren't they? well primary schools anyway. secondary schools still have a lot of catching up to do, but thats a whole nother issue!
ella- im v impressed your dh is making a cake. mine would buy one from safeway.
i can't believe it either!!! This time i have been sick uninterrupted since the 6 of September. and then only a week where i felt good before that, and the two weeks prior i had that rheumatic fever :( over it!!!
they are way cool! the school is like a 5 star eco sustainability school and the parents are required to not put in food in lunchboxes that are over packaged and all the food scraps are composted in the worm farm! so cool!
our kinder is like that too. absolutely no glad wrap or packaging and everything goes to the worms.
pity it all goes to the dogs once they hit high school and they spend their lunchtimes in the canteen buying hot chip rolls and washing it down with a ciggie. can't half tell I'm a jaded high school teacher huh?
trillian - is it the Wiltons Icing Colouring that comes in jars?
sorry, can't keep up with the conversation well enough to attempt personals... i am so heavy and slow and awkward, and the kids are driving me bananas!!
my DH wasn't impressed with the cake-making idea at first, but it has grown on him!! he doesn't generally enjoy doing anything baking-related (although he does like savory cooking), but i have told him that he'll do a great job and feel a great sense of achievement when he's finished. i hope i'm right, or he'll never help out with cakes again!!

Cass, you could ask for a referral to a Dr who specialises in immune systems/disorders? maybe it could even be something simple like a thyroid problem? I can only imagine how frustrating it would be for you :hug: The school sounds fantastic! I love the way education is heading now - it it so much more holistic and looking at the whole picture. But boy it causes some problems with parents though who still think school is no place for fun! Our neighbours wont let their kids go on excursions unless they are directly related to the curriculum and what they are learning. They don't realise that all the things like that the school does only enriches the education they get. They even had one couple pull their kids out of school and send them to the catholic school because there was 'too much singing and dancing and not enough learning' happening.
ETA - We've also rehomed Chewy too. Mum came over today and I asked her if she wanted to take her home. My brother already has a cat so it would be better for her there than left here to go feral again.
