Trill, are you flying? From Wagga or from Canberra or from Sydney? In an exciting new development there's a slim chance I *might* be in Canberra that week. Too early to say, but that would be freaky if it turned out our lives intersected by an hour or two in the same location :lol:
G and Oz - Well I think it would be a great idea to move, especially because we could meet in Milton for lunch sometimes!
Cass - your trip has come up really quickly! Hope these final days of packing are going well.
Not much to report here, having a very blobby day before heading back to work tomorrow. K did two weeks of intensive swim lessons and is doing so well - can do side breathing for freestyle and backstroke. She also knows that the point of kicking is not to make the biggest splash!
wow cally- that swimming sounds really good. i don't think L is at that point yet.
we went down to phillip island today and L said he likes the beach better near grandma's (callala) lol. dh is now thinking we should rent this house out and rent his parents house off them for 2 years. would make the transition a lot easier i suppose..
i am keen to come to the botanical gardens on the tuesday trill but i wouldn't get there till after 11am? would that suit? i will have both boys with me.
Cally, sounds like K is doing really well at swimming! W is only just standing in the shoulder high water by himself and still freaks out if his head goes under.
Raining again. DH spent all of yesterday out on a search for some guy that decided to go swimming in the river after weeks of heavy rain. Idiot. He is almost certainly dead but they were checking the riverside for signs that he had made landfall. I just can't get over the stupidity of some people, why would you go for a swim in a river that is obviously in high flood!.
Seems like we are back into a bad sleep pattern for W, although nothing like we have been though in the past! He wakes around midnight and is getting increasingly harder to get back to bed. Last night took about 1.5 hours of putting him back in bed, tantrums etc. Over it. Erin slept through. Gotta be wrong that my little baby sleeps better than my 4 year old! He must be having nightmares, unless there really is a giant pizza chasing him lol.
Am watching E wriggle and roll all over the place :)
ETA, Oz, I heard about the 4 year old testosterone thing a while back and it seems true for us even though I can't find any actual studies to prove it happens. All of a sudden W muscled up and got aggressive/rowdy and competitive. He seems to be adjusting now though - the bickering between the kids seems to have subsided. We are getting a lot of meltdowns again though.
hmmm, i wonder if girls get a hormonal surge too? Leila has been really quick to meltdown :think: although i guess it could do with the topsy turvy last month or so as we get ready to go...
Arte: I do find it crazy when people just dont seem to think things through. it is especially scary how their actions can then put at risk those that are then required to help them out of dangerous situations.

Cally: that is so amazing about K's swimming! i am so so impressed. i wish that i could of gotten L into a swim class...we always struggled to find a day that she could fit in :(. hopefully in america...it is a big thing for me as i almost drowned as a 2 year old and it is ingrained in my memory how scary it was. and poor leila just sinks like a lead balloon!

AFM: ugh, i just got guilted big time by a guy from the wilderness society. i totally believe in the cause and totally LOVE the work that they are doing (and that it is a totally local organisation etc etc). but i had to tell him for like 20 minutes that i just dont have the financial autonomy to make a decision to donate monthly (which, TBH was the bit that sucked, as i wish that i did!). urgh, it was such hard work prying myself away. and of course the girls were just cracking it at having to wait around :(

The swimming teacher told us that she will plateau shortly as her body is just not developed enough (needs more muscles!)
And she seems to be right for no nappies overnight - we had very few dry nappies in the morning, but she was really insisting that she didn't want to wear a nappy and DH was happy to deal with it if it all went pear shaped. But it didn't, she has taken herself off to the toilet each night and is all dry in the morning. Although I have likely jinxed it my telling you all......
Arte - my niece is like W, they had lessons at the same time, K was practically swimming laps and niece was sitting on steps refusing to blow bubbles and get her nose wet. It's amazing how you can jump into a pool and not get your face wet!
Man I am over hayfever! Halfway through January and my nose is blocked every night. Ridiculous.

Cass, I hate the charities that are wanting a payment plan! I often give a few dollars to a donation bucket, but I can't commit to $20 or so each month.
Just found out that DH has a work trip coming up, right after he is going away for a hunting trip. So now he is going to Fiordland for a week - hunting by day, fishing in the evening and sleeping onboard a boat - then the day he was supposed to get back he will most likely fly out again to Melbourne for another 5 days. Nice life for some! (Not at all jealous lol)
my DH is off to Indonesia for a week (and then again in a month or so) too Arte. unimpressed!
it coincides with the month my nanny is on leave. ummm yeah i am looking fwd to that juggling act.
i am also CRAZY busy at work.

G: it is so cool when there is a good group of chick-a-dees to hang out with with the kids. this is what i love about where we live (all us neighbours get along and hang out with the kids). makes a big difference to the week.
MP: eeek. i do freak out a bit when DH goes away. the last time he did, i escaped to QLD with both the girls and stayed with my mum lol. how's that for brave?!
AFM: bags are packed! we fly out tomorrow morning....arrghhhh!! so excited and yet terribly overwhelmed by this [temporary] life change ITMS.
i have managed to fit all my clothes in a carry on bag...i have visions of shopping :rofl:

Well K had her first vomit last night. At least she waited until we got home, rather than during the 1.5 hours sitting at the dentists... Seems to be feeling better today, so hopefully it's just a little bug, although she did have a few runny poos last week.

Getting the house sprayed for flies today so we have to leave for 4 hours. Going to play at the daycare for as long as I can, then have lunch at a cafe. Hopefully none of the kids crack, cos we have nowhere to go lol

HALLO from the US of A my september peeps!!!
...well, we made it :lol:
the flight went really really well. we were given a free seat for Marta :dance: :leap:. it was way cool. the A380 is so crazy huge, it isnt funny! Marta loved sitting in her own chair and with the new designs you can adjust the height and how close or far away the tray is, so she was able to eat her meals mostly unassisted (which meant that i was able to eat lol). DH was pretty nervous the whole time, and basically wasnt able to help out much at all. so it was tiring for me with the two girls, but nowhere near as bad as i had envisioned (leila was big enough to see the tv and watch the movies etc.). also the girls managed to have a good sleep as we lifted the armrest in the two middle chairs and they topped and tailed under blankets and a pile of pillows.
LA is very cool. or rather, warm! winter here is so beautiful! i am in a t-shirt and a short skirt with leggings. no jackets!
we went and got some coffee (small is massive!) and the babycino was so huge! it was almost half a litre upon reflection...
our apartment is really nice and big (2 bed, 2 bath and 2 walk in wardrobes etc). i am too scared to let them play on the balcony, but there are loads of gardens around the place etc.
MD: definitely quirky lol! somehow we managed to attract a fan club at the airport and so had like 3 staff helping us filling all the paperwork when we arrived hahahaha! i reckon travelling with the girls is a big help in that respect :)
anyway, best dash. we have two tired girls and we have made the decision to buy.....a mobile phone. i know, joining the 21st century. it is going to ruin us all lol!
soooo, a BIG question...what phone? we are looking at the brand spanking new android phone (samsung) it is gorgeous and sleek and an outright buy is $599 (US) whereas the iphone4S, (the bigger one) is like $1200 (US). what are the differences?? i am so so confused as we have never owned a mobile!
i might put a post up as well and see what people reckon....
CASS!!! So great to hear from you and that the trip went so well. Have you watched Supersize Me? He makes a point of saying how much bigger the serving sizes are in the US compared to anywhere else. It might take a bit of getting used to the different sizes when out and about. You will have to post some pics for us to see where you live, it sounds lovely! And I have no idea about the phones - when I got mine a few years back smart phones weren't around and I just wanted a phone that worked like a real phone LOL - none of the fancy schmancy stuff.
Arte, I wish I could spray our house for flies! We're fixing all the flyscreens on the doors and windows because they are starting to get holes in them so we're hoping that makes a huge difference.
Cally, how is K going? She must have a great immune system to be her age and never had a tummy bug before. Did she do the swimsafe swimming lessons?
MP, if your DH is going to be away, maybe a quick coffee will suit you better? If you can't make it because he's away, thats ok :)
G, that time sounds good! I'd love it if you had the boys with you too. Renting your house sounds like a good idea too - you get to do what you want to do and not have to sell the house in a bad market. It will give you loads of time to get it all fixed up too.
MD, counting down till school goes back yet? I bet H is nervously excited about school. The kids are looking forward to going back so they can catch up with their friends. Even L said he missed not knowing the goss LOL!
I finally have time to sit and type a decent response! I've been on here, but never for long enough to sit and take the time to do a proper post to you all. Kids started swimming lessons on Monday so we've been out every day this week and when we get home I'm busy doing stuff around the house to keep on top of everything and by the time they are in bed, I'm just as pooped as they are! I can't believe that last summer I was doing all of his on top of studying as well! The swimming is going really well though - it's just the girls and A doing it now. I can't believe how different A is this year compared to last year. Last year was so hit and miss in terms of him wanting to put his head under water, but now there is no stopping him! He is under the water all the time now and can even get the pool ring from the bottom of the big pool! I can't get over it and how it's all just clicked for him. Last year we'd take him in the big pool and it was like taking the Gingerbread man into the pool with you :lol: because he'd try to climb up on you as high as he could. Now he can tread water and everything! The instructor is teaching them freestyle and OMG its funny to watch. He does it pretty well for his age I reckon, but I also reckon I could stick a load of washing in there with him ROFL for all the thrashing around he does. I'll have to video him doing it and put it on FB. But I am super proud that it has 'clicked' with him and he isn't scared of the water anymore.
And we had another trip to the ED with A as well. At this rate we'll become regulars LOL. It wasn't a huge issue, just a massive splinter in his foot that I had absolutely no chance of being able to get out by myself with my piddly ass tweezers. As it was, the nurse put some emla cream on it to deaden it a bit and then she had to open the skin right up to get to it and pull it out. He was pretty good through it all even though it was starting to hurt him a bit.
I also made myself an appointment to donate blood for the first time too! I go on Wednesday. I registered last year, but couldn't donate yet because I was taking the MTX medication, but I'm off it for a few months so now I can start donating. I'm hoping to get in as many donations as I can before I start taking it again.
Cass I'm glad you've arrived safely (and sanely) in the Unreality S of A! :lol: Sounds like you've got the international travel thing totally sorted! I have an "old school" iphone and I love it. But it was old school prices, so that accounts for part of the love LOL. I think if you post a thread about it you'll get die-hards on both sides = it's like asking people PC or Mac, or Ford or Holden. LOL
ETA Trill! Missed your post. YES I am counting down til school goes back, partly because DH will be going back to work as well and I can finally have a bit of P&Q. (I've been getting quite twitchy lately, I think my fooffer valve is about to blow) LOL. BTW yay for you donating blood! I"m banned for life :lol: but DH gives plasma which means he's down there every few weeks, it takes longer too.
I'm very impressed by all the swimming-like-a-fish kidlets. E is starting lessons when school goes back. She hasn't really been ready until now but when we're at the pool now I can see the cogs turning. I don't think it'll take her very long.
I hope the fooffer valve doesn't blow! :lol: I figured you'd be banned for life. I've always felt guilty that I've not done it before, especially since I've had a transfusion myself kwim? But the damn meds mean I can't donate while I'm taking it. I'm hoping to to the plasma as well because I can do that every 2-3 weeks, but whole blood is only every 12 wks apparently. Good thing I have a kindle now to help me pass the time ;)
I'm glad his cogs finally turned this year too - it's been a frustrating few years with him because I knew he could do it, but being as fickle as he is meant that one day he'd be fine and the next he'd not want to do it. So it felt like the previous days effort was wasted ITMS. I hope it doesn't take E long either.
Trill, what sort of kindle do you have? I've got the old fashioned (HA HA) type with the keypad at the bottom. TBH I'm a little perplexed at how to "do stuff" with it, but I love it just the same. I entertained myself quite thoroughly the other day by weighing various books that are on my immediate to-read list, and seeing that the kindle weighs less than most of them :lol: Oh the fun you can have with electronic kitchen scales! I also weighed everything I pulled out of my handbag the other day, it's now >500g lighter than it was a couple of days ago :rofl:
DH also signed up to give platelets, but they measured his levels twice and both times he didn't have enough. Apparently you've got as many as you've got and it's not something that really changes for any reason other than significant illness/injury. So it's plasma for now and he's a big fella so they suck a good juicy lot out of him every time. LOL I would imagine it's a bit of a drive for you to get to the collection centre though?

I can't answer about the phones, mine rings and texts and that is all I require from a phone. I would go for the cheaper one though, I am sure an iPhone isn't twice as good as the android.
Also impressed with all the swimming. Was going to take W to some lessons this week after his success standing solo in the pool, but then I realized they would want him to put his head under and I can't be bothered dealing with it. He will have to wait until next year at school - they go three times a week for the first term of the year.
I haven't given blood since 2006 - have been preg and/or BF since. My iron levels sit on the borderline, but I will get back to donating when E is finished BF.
W got up at 5.15am and is in a super crap mood. He trashed his room (that I tidied yesterday) because he was apparently looking for a toy to play with and I told him he has to stay in there until it is tidy. Two hours later and he has done about a quarter of it! Alternating between happy but mucking around and tantrums. Going to be a looooong afternoon!

You might find if you could get him into lessons where you don't actually have to be in the pool with him, that he might cooperate a lot better? A lot of kids are like that - can't have a parent tell them what to do in the pool or have a parent with them, but they are absolutely fine with just the instructor or someone else. I hate it when they wont clean their room. If they just got in and did it they could have it done so much quicker!
MD, I got the 3G Keyboard one. I don't like touch screens cause they get so grubby. I have to admit I'm in love with it though, I've read 25 books since Christmas! Plus I've put loads more on my wishlist. It's quite an expensive habit to have but most of the books i've gotten have been the 99cent ones and they have been really good. I'm in the process of adding all the Terry Pratchett discworld books and Douglas Adams books to the list too. I never thought I would say that I love an electronic reader because I love books so much, but I could never have that many real books sitting around taking up space kwim? DH hates it though LOL, because he reckons once I'm into a book I don't communicate with him. And OMG at the 500gs of stuff you took out of your bag! I think my entire handbag would be lucky to weigh a kilo at best. There is a mobile blood donation truck that comes into town once a month, but if I want an appointment that suits me, I need to go to either Wagga or Griffith. So I'm going to Griffith, because it's closer than wagga and we go to Griffith quite a bit anyway.

Trill where do you get all your books from? Straight from Amazon or do you have another tricky source? I've been (very loyally) trying to find an Australian retailer but it sucks eggs when the electronic version costs more online than I know I could get it in paper down at the shops! Our library has been investigating an e-book lending service for a while but they don't service kindles yet so everyone's impatiently waiting.
I just get them from Amazon at this stage. I haven't worried about getting books from anywhere else yet. but I did notice that booktopia are doing ebooks as well.
Cass - I'd be going for the Samsung. Heaps cheaper and there are just as many apps for android as there are for Apple. Are you nice and close to Disneyland? We lived pretty close when I was about 6 and went like 6 times in a year! Apparently mum and dad used to put us all to bed and the go and watch the nighttime parades - ahh, the days in the early 80's of leaving a 6 year old and 3 year old at home by themselves!!

The only reason W was cleaning his room by himself was as punishment for deliberately trashing it - like tipping out every single crate of toys in there (blocks, cars, everything off the shelves etc). In the end he was in there for 3.5 hours and I let him out after he made a reasonable(ish) effort, even though that involved shoving basically everything in the wardrobe. He is doing really silly things atm that are obviously for attention. I think he is feeling a bit under appreciated with the addition of the baby. I am spread pretty thin trying to do the basic care and keep the house in a livable state, I haven't really had much time to actually play with the kids. Luckily kindy is back on Tuesday because I am not really liking his attitude right now!
Is a return of separation anxiety normal at this age? Every time he has to leave me, even to go with DH there are waterworks and he doesn't want to go and he says he will never see me again...
I should add that he wasn't locked in his room, the door was open and he spent most of the time in good spirits mucking around not cleaning :)
Ah the rise of bedroom cleanup procrastination! This will very much be a feature of our lives for about the next 15 years! Lol
Yes E still gets a bit clingy with me. Doesn't matter even if she's headed out to do something nice with dh there is still a chance of histrionics if I'm not coming. But there again we're having a bit of a crybaby phase anyway. Pretty much anything can set her off, like if her food is on the plate wrong somehow or something!

Thanks MD, that is good to know that W is not the only one that is a grizzly crybaby again. I thought it was some holidays/baby combo, but maybe the age has an impact too. He is back to hysterics about socks and his favorite thing is to flop onto the floor and lay screaming that he needs help and can't get up - then when I don't give in he body shuffles around the house lol
LOL. Yes we get the "but I can't move my leg/arm/head/whatever" extreme paralysis too :lol:. We also get (at dinner time) "but I don't know WHAT to eat" when the plate is full of tasty morsels that just need to be picked up and placed into mouth in no particular order. Fun for all players!
Sounds awesome MD lol. Sometimes W can't climb the step to come inside so he sits out there yelling for help and every once in a while he will get up, lock the door and shut himself out, then scream at the top of his lungs that he is locked out! The neighbors must think we are horrible!
