Happy new year to you all, and it looks as though you all had a wonderful Christmas with your families too!
i can't even remember when I last wrote but have been keeping up with you on here and Facebook.
we are back from holidays and getting ready for the year to begin. I've just cooked up a storm for the week - barley and pomegranate salad, green cous cous, chicken san Choy bao and caramelised chicken breasts. Yummy.
did I write when we were all sick (while dh was away) was sucha nightmare, we had swine flu! N, j and I were a.l soooooo sick. Was therefore wonderful to get Way for
2 weeks and we are all great now. The holiday was amazing - beach, rest, friends, good food, wineries and lots of family time and proper catch ups with friends. Much needed recuperation.
dh is away again for 2 wks next sun so it all begins again.
Tomorrow j has his first day at the school - it is holiday programme and he can't wait! It's nice he gets to settle in with Noah too before the excitement of kinder and prep in a few weeks.
Il try to keep up now so I can stop with the selfish posts and actually respond to your posts.

Cass, marriage to crap to fly by seat of pants - must have things planned so there is no confusion/blame/misunderstanding.
MD, we are away until the 29th - it is 21 internet free days! ATM I am in the car outside McD's while E is sleeping so I have taken the opportunity to plug in. I don't really do the roughing it thing well. I like my internet and flushing toilets!
OMG, they sold out of the burger I wanted so DH has just dropped off a lamb burger. ****ing disgusting!

oh and dont worry when the moments of NOT finding a motel during a dust storm have presented themselves we have had 'marital disharmony' bahahaha...and it's all his fault...always lol.

Cass - I suppose we have little holidays, ie the trips to Canberra to see my family. Built in babysitters there. Wedding anniversary tomorrow, will be 8 years, there is a trip planned for the 10 year anniversary (thinking of heading back to Fiji or on a cruise) and I'm trying to persuade DH for something beforehand. DH is very focussed on goals - at the moment it is paying off the mortgage so he can't really think of spending any money that isn't that.
21 days without internet. Man, that's tough. I managed the 5 days at my aunt's, but to get back to Dad's and find he'd hit his download limit so turned off the internet was pretty tough.
Mp - woah, swine flu, that must have really knocked you around.
Well they are even predicting 43 degrees here tomorrow - in our little coastal place that only just got over 35 last week when everyone else was sweltering. Will be casual clothes for work I think - none of these fancy black pants. Loose skirt and flowing top with hair up!

Cally - hope you survived the heat ok. It's been crazy hasnt it. I couldnt survive without holidays - as you all may have guessed its high on our priority list! I dont know how you do it.
On that note, its only 10 weeks til DH and I go to Thailand!!!! Cant wait, though a bit nervous about leaving the boys.
It will be amazing though, and the place we are staying in looks DIVINE (check it out, the racha in phuket)
I wonder how Arte is going without the internet. That'd kill me.
I am trying to not be on the net, emails, texting etc when I should be focused on other things (even TV). I dont think the multitasking in that way is good for me and my stress levels etc.
I had better go, we are taking DH assistant and her partner out for dinner (I am in the offive) and DH just called to say he is downstairs. Going to nice restaurant (becco) so looking fwd to it.

In a remote campsite that has cell reception!
A truck in front of us carrying offal spilt its load all over the road and we had to drive through it so now the car and caravan are coated in blood and gore lol. Didn't help matters when we arrived at what is apparently the sandfly capital of nz.
Toilet training seems to have worked, only one accident in the last three days which is amazing considering the travel.

Oh gosh Arte, that sounds absolutely disgusting! Does it stink?
Got throught the hot day OK. Office air conditioning struggled a bit, the building is about 2-3 feet off the ground and we could feel the heat coming up through the carpet and tiles.
MD - how are all the visitors going? Everyone else cope in the heat?
Sherie - any of those fires near your place? We don't have any in our shire, but big ones west, north and south. Very smoky today. Once again realising how isolated we can be - the highway north to Sydney is shut again, the one to Canberra was shut for over a day.

Cally, I'm kinda in no-holiday land, too. I love the short-break model, in the past that's worked really well for us, all the fun with a fraction of the admin. LOL BTW congratulations on hitting 8 years, wishing you many more happy ones together. xxx
Arte- sorry but I LOL'd (actually I GUFFAWED) when I read about your offal encounter. Just like a zombie-survival expedition *snort*. Except with sandflies. And no internet. BTW I agree - the lamb burgers are ****ing disgusting. Hope the trip (and the roadside menu) gets better!!
MP, glad to hear you've been well-refreshed by your break. The flu musta been tough :hug:. I hope all has gone well with J's first days - excellent that he can be involved in the holiday program first. That place does look divine!
Trill - hope the birthday was fabbo.
Took miss E shopping yesterday for her school uniform! Had to get a size 8 (!!) because the size 6 was already creeping up over her knee. She was v. shy in the shop, but was happy enough to parade around with her baggy uniform and enormous big-kid-sized school bag tonight. :).
AFM - visitors still here. I went back to work this week - got a bit of P&Q sitting at my desk. LOL.

Goodness md, how much longer are your visitors around? Crazy E is fitting a size 8! W still fits a size 4.
Cass, I have had zombie thoughts a few times, especially alone in a field at night like when Shane died and the herd invaded the farmhouse lol.
We have made it to BILs house (the cool one) and he took us for a helicopter ride up to the glacier today. So awesome! Kids loved it. They are really enjoying themselves :)

Fingers crossed Arte that the trip keeps going OK and that there are no more zombie-gore like incidents :rofl: so gross! and OMG I shudder at the thought of the smell of it!
MD, best to get the baggy uniform now than having to replace it in 4th term.
So we survived the heat wave. Closest fire was about 30kms away which DH did get called out to, but couldn't go as he was working on shift. Had a fab birthday - got an awesome bike that I casually said I'd like but didn't think I'd get. I have just about got all the school stuff - just need to get the girls some more socks and a pair of shoes for A and E and I'm done. I put myself on a ban last weekend because I had an assignment due, but got it done on Monday and just decided to keep the ban for a few days to get things done ;)
MD, I'm not kidding about the BBQ with Sam Kekovitch! Our stock and station agent that we sell our sheep through is having a 10th anniversary party for his Stock and station agency next Saturday and Sam is the guest speaker. It's going to be quite interesting. I love my football and I love my lamb - just not sure about those two things wrapped up in the one package LOL. I'll see if I can wrangle a pic for you ;)

Hi ladies.
Well half of houseguests have left today and other half leaving tomorrow. They will be back for a few days over the long weekend but at least we get a bit of a breather before then. Feeling mostly relief at this stage.
Arte, wow so glad you have an awesome BIL to balance out the other. The heli ride sounds fantastic. Are there any cousins there for your kids to play with? We saw The Hobbit last night so I was thinking about you with all the extras in orc costumes wandering up the main street nearby... ANyway,there was this scene with a hedgehog and I sat there thinking - hey I didn't know there were hedgehogs in New Zealand??! PMSL. Hope the trip continues well. x
I'm starting to get a little nervous about the looming school starting date. Still have a few things to do. I've ordered overpriced name labels online (haven't arrived yet) and we've got all her stationery, but I haven't found slip on book covers yet (it's always a pain in the butt to find them) and I'm soooo not sitting there covering them all in contact!! We got school shoes and the bare minimum uniform, friends were giving up some handmedowns and we didn't know what we were getting so I'll have to go back for a couple more things. Now that I've got the spare room back, I'm going to dig out some nice fabric and make a library bag. :).

Yep, we got the fabric for the library bag too - from the very hungry caterpillar which i found surprising, but that's what he wanted so that's what he got. I saw they had the slip on covers at officeworks - do you have one near you? They do sell online too. I found some gorgeous ones online that had super cute prints on them, but they were $2.75 each and I found that a bit hard to justify kwim?

Very hungry caterpiller fabric sounds excellent. Everyone loves that book (upside-down butterfly or not)!
Yeah, I saw some super cute ones online too - crazy to spend more on the cover than the actual exercise books cost! LOL. We've got an Officeworks not too far away, so I'll check in there when I'm going that way some time this week. She has quite a few scrapbook sized books this year though, so if I can't find any large ones it might be all the excuse i need to splash out a couple with pictures on. LOL.
Most nervous of all though about how the heck I'm going to get them both to school on time every day!! I don't really understand why the primary and high schools both start at the same time when they are a good 10 mins away from each other. Given they are catholic schools and the RCs are supposed to accept as many children as are divinely bestowed upon them, there must be lots of families with kids in both schools (one of which is a traffic jam nightmare and one of which is a parking space nightmare). And my sleep delay is worse than ever which means I'm usually an open-eyed zombie til about 10 am every day.
